I know what you mean! I've got about 10 girls names and 2 boys! So maybe we should wait and see whether we "need" a bouncer or if baby gym is sufficient. Bit concerned how we train the dog to stay off it... hmmm any tips anyone?!!!

4madboys · 31/05/2010 21:23

no idea about training a dog, but am sure someone will have!

re bouncy chairs, you can get them cheaply from lots of places, and you will have a carseat taht you can use, so yes wait and see if you think you will need one.

i do agree baby moniters its worth spending a bit more on tho we got a very good tomy one for £35 that we have been using for the last two and a bit years and are happy with

names are a nightmare, ds4 didnt have a name till he was two weeks old!

so far on our list we have Emmett for a boy and Eliza Meredith or Astrid for a girl, but i am sure we will change our mind a million times!

we also like Sonny, Milo, Casey, Jasper and Eli for a boy.

and Suikhi, Hazel and Genevieve for a girls. but like i say we will change our mind and may even change it again once the baby is born, ds2 was Max for a day, then didnt have a name for a week until he became Oscar!

tiany · 31/05/2010 21:26

hi ladies,

was away in oz for 2.5wks so have been off the thread. Defo have a mini bump developing but not feeling any kicks yet.

Have my checkup and blood test results with m/w tomorrow so taking to day off and not back to work until weds.

Have been dizzy a few times but bp on the low side of normal i think.... also have pins and needles down my legs a lot lately - anyone else had this?

Rinnyx · 31/05/2010 23:24

My aches and pains carry on, still bloody hurt but used to it now if that makes any sence. Its always my lower left back but more often its all my lower back these days

On buying things and baby names, I admit I have bought a snowsuit but it was in the sales and not white (like most of them) but still unisex.
If I can I will get bargain winter wear now rather than when it all comes back in at full price.
Names we finally agreed last week tho we had been fighting on names for years now believe it or not even before we agreed to TTC, we are not telling anyone tho and I have also asked my inlaws to pick/create middle names for both sexs as middle name will be Chinese

mumcha · 31/05/2010 23:34

Hi 4madboys its good thot our sons got their 1st choice at schools it will make the transition so much easier. Katey1010 · 01/06/2010 00:02

A bit of advice here, please. I'm in Canada and MWs are more of a rarity here. I thought that I would get a doctor and a MW and merrily make my mind up about birth later. Now they tell me that they only pay for one. So, I have to choose and doctors won't do home births only MWs will. I would really like the option of a home birth although the chances are slim (older, first baby, mother was induced with both of us, overweight). Should I: a) go with a MW and sack the doctor? b) pay for a MW as an extra? c) stick with the doctor?

I quite like the doctor but she is a little dippy (I've had two sets of two blood tests as she got the dates confused).

My cousin has said she will be there to support my DH and she has done a ton of births as she is a hypnobirth practitioner.

llandb · 01/06/2010 00:12

Hi everyone and hello wallace !

tiany hope oz was fun I get the pins and needles thing intermittently in arms and legs so hope it's no big deal

4madboys grr, pukeyness should be banned. Good news about your DS1 and DS2 - hope you're feeling better soon

delhi glad it was just 'routine' and glad they've been told to buck up their communication!

JFly, Pidgin and 4madboys, thanks for wishes - JFly good idea about phoning tomorrow, will do!

hmm I'm sickly pale too (except the freckles and moles), never had linea with DD, felt most deprived!

Booboobedoo glad you get on with your Moby! I got one as a pressie for a good friend but unfortunately she's overseas so I won't get to see her wear it. I kept wanting to open it and have a nosey

All the names we like and agree on are taken by friends/people we know as well, especially for boys. Rinnyx is this because your OH's family is Chinese and yours isn't? If so, what a lovely idea to have a name from each tradition, and if not, cool anyway

Bras - I recently had a Bravissimo epiphany! Am currently in the nursing version of these (not needed for nursing any more but most recently fitted bra). I must say it did a fine job of lifting and separating when first fitted, though now I'm busting out, as it were, front and back. Pity they don't do these beyond G cup (am wearing 34 GG).

Also wonder whether I could justify any of these pyjama tops rather than a night-time bra - would prob have to roll it up over the flump though!

Better turf cats out (neighbours' cats but we are cat-sitting so they are here for company and have a cat flap, a warm bed and an official home next door) and take the flump to bed. Goodnight, flumps!

llandb · 01/06/2010 00:14

Katey1010 x-posted, no idea but I'm sure someone less night-owley with some knowledge will be along in the morning, UK time

CardiCorgi · 01/06/2010 08:51

Welcome Wallace I'm one of four children, not sure if I will have that many myself.

Kyuri our hostess told me which cheeses were pasteurised which made life a lot easier. Unfortunately one evening she made me a special starter because the others were all getting unpasteurised goat's cheese in theirs. One of the ladies who had been so keen to give me advice got to mine before me and started eating it while everyone was telling her to stop because it was for me. She then told me that it had been very nice; I could have cried and I was so hungry that evening.
Of course, if something looks dodgy/you don't fancy it, you have the perfect excuse to be picky. I did eat the paté (not liver, well cooked), but not the cured sausage that we were given.

Thanks for the bra advice everyone, I shall try to find something pretty in the normal ranges - feeling extra flumpy and it would be nice to feel at least slightly attractive.

How mobile do you tend to be at 27 weeks? I'm thinking of doing a sailing course in August but am not sure if this is a truly stupid idea.

No idea about names here, we have to combine German, Welsh and English.

comtessa · 01/06/2010 11:31

Hello everyone, have been off MN over long weekend as househunting. Am now procrastinating going to work and am sitting here with a half-eaten rhubarb crumble in front of me. Clearly it's one of those days!

I sympathise CardiCorgi: My DH and I have been thnking of names since, er, since we first got together in 2006! And sadly have got no further than the first two we thought of - Kristian Michael and Anya Grace. Name needs to go with Danish surname... Any thoughts gratefully received!

Loooopy · 01/06/2010 11:46

Sorry but i'm behind with everyones postings and this is most definitely a me me me post as i'm in a RAAAAHHHH mood as i'm just back from 16 week ish appointment with the midwife. Got to hear the heartbeat, so relieved to hear it's still there and ok but thats the only non-RAAAAHHHHH bit of today!!

Has anyone else had a midwife that they didn't like?

The one i saw for booking in appointment was really kind and lovely, but it was a different one today and i really didn't take to her. She didn't seem to give a monkeys about what i said to her, she wasn't at all bothered that i hadn't had my next scan date through even though lots of other people already know theirs, and when i said i want a home birth, she clearly didn't agree and told me i should read up on it as if she knows best and that i won't want one after all as if i am a child and i don't know my own mind. I may not have had a baby before and not have a clue what it's like, but i am 33 and i know i would prefer to have a home birth, as long as there are no complications along the way which is exactly the words i'd used to her. My BMI is a bit raised, but this is not an issue that they've said would mean i shouldn't have one as so far everything else is looking good - low blood pressure, all bloods ok, nothing untoward. I could understand it if i was a risk for something else, or if i was saying no matter what i want a home birth, but i am perfectly happy to go to hospital if there are any complications between now and then, so really don't like that she is trying to put me off at this stage!

She also seemed to think that having a bowl of cereal for breakfast with a pint of milk, a jacket potato with cheese and beans for lunch, and a chicken thigh (as in just a small thigh from those mixed packs of thighs/drumsticks that the supermarkets sell) with lettuce, 4 radish and 6 cherry tomatoes was a lot of food to eat in a day and i should be eating healthily and watching my portion sizes so i don't put on much weight. (i was overweight at start of pg, but have only put on 2lb since the start of Feb when i weighed myself when i came off pill and we got pg in Feb on first attempt so start of Feb not a bad point to base weight gain from)

What do you all eat on a typical day?

tiany · 01/06/2010 11:48

not sure on the names front either.. most likely irish/italian and short as have long italian surname to follow it!

I got 70% chance of boy on the quiz but i guessed most of the answers.

Had 16wk check with m/w this morning and was great to hear baby's heartbeat bopping along

Might buy some maternity clothes online now... have been holding off for ages

Loooopy · 01/06/2010 11:49
  • when i say bowl of cereal with a pint of milk, i mean a pint glass of milk to drink, with a small bowl of cornflakes as well - not a massive bowl filled with a pint of milk lol!!!
mumcha · 01/06/2010 11:56

lol loooopy wish i could eat like you i havent got an appetite at all and im having to force myself to eat .I would have a bowl of porridge, tuna and onion sandwichs for lunch and pasta for dinner as im cionstantly reminded that i have to eat,but if i were to be handed a big bag of sweets i would eat them all day long.

umf · 01/06/2010 12:40

Loooopy wow how do you survive on that??? It's obviously a good, light diet - but not one I could stick to while pg.

That midwife sounds like an interfering, controlling cow. A few of them are, sadly.

Hope you don't see her again. Actually, if necessary ask not to? Quite within your rights.

llanb hello!! I haven't so far had anything to do with hospital, happily, except for scan. But look forward to identifying the consultants from your description if encounter them! Have a form for that scanning course; mean to return it... Hope to hear good news from you soon.

4madboys Eliza Meredith or Astrid for a girl also on our list! But my money's on it being a boy, in which case will probably be Petroc.

smokeybacon · 01/06/2010 13:28

loooopy the MW sounds bonkers. You'd make yourself ill if that was all you ate as a pregnant woman. Ridiculous.

You should see the advice given in a book I have about twin pregnancies and nutrition. To sum up. Eat loads. Fairly healthily but fast food will not hurt, and eat often. And loads. This is an American book though and it estimates total weight gain for a twin pg to be 35 to 40 lbs. So far I have put on 8lbs which I was rather chuffed with TBH as I have been eating in accordance with the books advice, ie loads!

landb fingers crossed for your results today.

Names. Not even started thinking about them yet.

Loooopy · 01/06/2010 13:30

mumch i'm not finding it easy to eat, have also lost my appetite and tastebuds don't seem able to taste a lot of things, but i'm trying to make myself eat 3 meals a day and try to eat the right kind of foods if i can -but not eating protein and carbohydrate at every meal, not managing 5 portions of fruit/veg every day, and bound to be other things i'm not eating that i should be too! but i thought i was doing well to eat what i've been managing, only to be told i'm eating too much - i never used to eat brekkie, but making myself eat it, lunch each day has been either jacket/cheese/beans, or a small can of heinz tomato soup with 2 slices bread, or lettuce/beetroot/radish/tomatoes with sometimes new potatoes, and either some cheese, or some ham or some prawns for protein, and tea is whatever i can force down as not hungry by then after having had 2 meals already! Having plenty of milk each day and a glass of fruit juice daily too. Not eating chocolate, or cakes or biscuits. Vices are crisps, and now and then haribo tangtastics and ice lollies.

Had a treat on Saturday night, glad i didn't tell the midwife now! Had fish and chips at a friends house, only managed 1/3 of the chips but no doubt she wouldn't have had any whatsoever if it was her ;)

Can you really choose not to see a certain midwife? there are only 2 that come to my doctors, and they only do appts on one day, so each one is only there twice a month which means i wouldn't necessarily have appointments in the right weeks if i only see the nice one?

Gaga82 · 01/06/2010 14:55

Looopy I am eating about twice the amount that you are! Midwife didn't weigh me at last appointment, but did just check I was eating plenty and keeping it down. I would have been really upset if I were you!

Had my blood test this morning to find out the cause of this hideous rash, which is currently keeping me awake at night and wearing loose jogging bottoms in the day! Driving me insane. Just trying not to google it, sure that could do no good at all but cause me brain ache at the minute.

We cannot agree on any names at all, being a teacher is leading me to rule out lots of perfectly reasonable names due to previous experiences!

Rinnyx · 01/06/2010 15:08

Hi llandb yeah I thought it would be nice so they have a link to both their roots/backgrounds plus its nice they can use their Chinese names when we pop over to Hong Kong to see family
My daughter is Lily 'Yim Chow', FIL picked it

I have yet another lovely thing to my list of cons in this pg, I thought yay no morning sickness with this one, lucky cow but I have the backache and today while out for lunch I got a nosebleed, how lovely for the other people eating

Hope everyone is doing well x

tanmu82 · 01/06/2010 15:27

looopy I would think that what you eat is rather a small amount! On an average day I will have:

breakfast boiled egg, handful of olives, wholemeal pitta, cup of tea
snack piece of fruit
lunch cheese, salami and salad sandwich made with wholemeal bread (no butter), packet of crisps, piece of fruit or leftovers
dinner linguine with greens in garlic olive oil, salad

If I am peckish in between all that, I tend to snack on wholegrain rice cakes with peanut butter, fruit, a biscuit or two or yoghurt. I also try and drink lots of water and have a cup of peppermint tea to ease wind

I am not overweight and have put on approx 5lb since I got pregnant (am 18 weeks along now).
whether you are overweight or not, pregnancy isn't the time to start dieting, just make healthy choices - which you seem to be. Ignore your midwife - maybe you can ask about swapping?

harmonyb23 · 01/06/2010 15:28

Hey everyone, just been catching up on all of the posts. Loopy your midwife sounds bonkers! I am eating about the same as you and was overweight to start with, my BMI is also high, my midwife hasn't said anything about eating to much, she seemed to be worried I was eating to little when I spoke to her last.

Have had a lovely bank holiday weekend in Lowestoft , and have come back to find all of my vegetables are growing gigantic. Have managed to pick lettuce, chard, radishes, spinach and rocket today!!! Have been out planting in the rain this afternoon, have managed to get my courgettes, pumpkins, tomatoes and squash planted out. Pretty knackered now but proud of myself for being motivated enough to actually do something, have been so lazy lately!

Have thought of a few names I like but am not sure what we'll be choosing yet;

Boys:
Andrew Edward
Patrick Stephen

Girls:
Kirsten Marie
Alessa May
Chloe Elizabeth

comtessa · 01/06/2010 15:33

looopy that sounds really healthy for a non-pregnant lady! I know all the info about "you don't have to eat for two" but I get hungry every two or three hours!

My day is:
Cereal/porridge, fruit juice, fruit.
Greggs sandwich
Jacket potato or ready meal
Fruit and yoghurt
Cheese and crackers
Light dinner
Bowl of cereal/banana on toast/yoghurt drink - otherwise I wake up hungry in the night!

But am really craving crisps and tortilla chips... mmm.
Hope everyone's having a good day. x

tanmu82 · 01/06/2010 15:47

mmmm, tortilla chips. I am loving doritos slightly salted with their hot salsa - I make a platter with carrot sticks and before I know it, half a bag is gone.....

anyway, I'm off to make some use of my new gym membership - am thinking a nice leisurely go on the bike and then a swim...

mumcha · 01/06/2010 16:38

Loooopy may taste buds have disappeared 2 thats y im eating what i can aswell nothing just seems nice.Your midwife does sound bonkers tho lol .I was told as long as the baby is growing that i must be eating enough.

rollerbaby · 01/06/2010 16:41

Looopy am totally and utterly outraged on your behalf. I've seen a couple of MWs since booking in (am now 18 weeks) and everyone without fail has been utterly supportive and positive about my decision to aim for a hb. I think it's completely outdated and subjective of this woman to put her own prejudices on you, particularly if there are no medical reasons as you say. I'm not sure if you can request not to see her, but you can request for her not to be present at your delivery definitely. If you feel really aggrieved call the MW supervisor and raise it with her. I'm sure you'll get a different attitude. It was also completely unhelpful and factually WRONG for her to pass judgement on your incredibly healthy choices. FWIW no one has asked me what I've been eating and to be honest I have not eaten that healthily throughout mainly because of feeling sick and hungry!! I have at least 3 bacon sarnies a week, plus crisps and biccies on top of my meals... I've been taking supplements as well though so I figure my baby won't be going without.

The MW booked me in for hb at my local hospital today and whilst they can't guarantee anything everything seems to be pointing in the right direction. She even measured my bump and apparently my baby is measuring a week bigger than our dates - i.e. 19 weeks! Yikes! Also heard his little heartbeat... I could listen all day long...
