Loopsy that mw needs her head examined. I am generally pretty healthy but if i only ate what was suggested there i would probably keel over and would defo lose weight.

I am generally:
brekkie: cereal/bircher, fruit juice
lunch: sandwich/baguette ..try to avoid the mayo
dinner: pasta or roast veggies with fish/meat
and i snack... try to have some fruit/yogurt but i also nibble on biscuit or chocolate depending on my mood.

Doing this i have only put on 4lbs since Feb, they didnt weight me at my 16wk check though but i think this is fine.

p.s. just bought first maternity item.. this dress for work needs to be taken up as am only 5'1 but its comfy! dress

comtessa · 01/06/2010 19:01

Pretty dress Tiany!

nomoremagnolia · 01/06/2010 19:13

Hi all,
Just marking my place for when I come back - been away for the b/hol, had a lovely time but am rather behind on everything now (MN, work, house etc)

hmmSleep · 01/06/2010 20:07

Oh my god, you all eat so healthily, including you Loopsy, I'm feeling most relieved my midwife hasn't questioned me about my diet, 'hmm, breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, dinner with lots of chocolate, biscuits, crisps, pastries etc. in between.' .

OP posts:
FourEyesGood · 01/06/2010 20:24

hmmSleep - so glad you said that! Was wondering if I was alone in just eating whatever I want. Not so keen on chocolate at the moment (hope I get my sweet tooth back eventually; life feels wrong without chocolate), but am wolfing crisps and supernoodles, along with some healthy stuff to appease my conscience.

emu82 · 01/06/2010 20:28

Hi to EVERYONE!!
I hope its not to late to join? Im 16 weeks pregnant and have lurked for a while due to several bouts of bleeding and uncertainty, I finally feel able to go public!! I have 2 children, 1 ds aged 8 and dd aged 6. You all seem very wise and Ive enjoyed reading all your posts and hope you have room for a 'newbie'.

rollerbaby · 01/06/2010 20:30

Welcome emu! hmmsleep I'm with you - I basically eat whatever I feel like!! Which generally isn't muesli and fruit!! Felt so bad after reading the posts went and had a massive wedge of watermelon (followed by pasta carbonara and garlic bread, yum!).

tanmu82 · 01/06/2010 20:43

hmmsleep, I do eat what I fancy - in fact when my sickness was at its worst around 10-14 weeks, I ate whatever was at hand to try and keep it at bay. Now it has settled down I am able to eat a more healthy, balanced diet. I don't deny myself though, just try and keep it in moderation.

Speaking of pretty dresses, I bought this one in the mamas and papas in Reading at the weekend. It looks beautiful on, though is still a little roomy as I am not in maternity clothes yet.

PrivetDancer · 01/06/2010 20:43

Ooh garlic bread!

hi emu glad the scariness is over now for you!

emu82 · 01/06/2010 20:56

Thank you PrivetDancer yes hopefully all scariness over with, when I went for 12 week scan they found an area of heamorrage just outside the amniotic fluid and so this seems to have been the cause of the bleeds. I have never heard of it before and was terrified, however mw reassured me that baby doesnt seem to mind and so trying my best to relax!!
hmmsleep Definatly second that! I have put on a stone!! Have tryed to eat healthily but many biscuits, crisps etc are going down well!!
In response to the terrible mw (sorry not sure who posted that) my original mw was very unsympathetic towards my bleeding and I had to wait 10 days for a scan. Fortunatly where I live I do not have to use the mw attached to my doctors and can go to my local childrens centre or nearest doctors and have been told (by new and extremley lovely mw) that I can see her weekly if that makes me feel reassured. Feel lucky to have that opportunity and would def encourage anyone who has had the misfortune to have a un helpful mw to change!!!

dairymum · 01/06/2010 21:14

Thank god for hmmmsleep and foureyesgood, I was totally panicking reading all those healthy eating posts, after eating a whole bag of prawn crackers last night. Not the healthiest eater at the best of times, but really struggling to find anything i really fancy eating right now. Totally sympathise with those who have awful midwives. I have a team of 4 and never know who it's gonna be when i make an appointment. 3/4 are really nice, 4th just a little strange. i have seen 2 of them throughout ALL my pregnancies, the benefits of rural life!

Must go make a card for godson cos i totally forgot its his birthday tomorrow!

llandb · 01/06/2010 21:28

comtessa I would practically sell my soul for rhubarb crumble at any time and now is no exception

Expect you've thought of these but I know Danish people called Elise and Ada, so I s'pose they're regular names in Denmark As it happens DD has one of those names and one of my nieces has the other and none of our family is Danish

Loooopy I didn't have visions of a massive portion of cereal - rather, a standard portion, sadly bobbing around in a sea of milk

Totally agree your MW is a silly cow, to be ignored if pos. Bet she's the sort who would tell you to do the opposite of whatever you're doing, just to be contradictory and have a superior opinion. My diet closely resembles hmm's and FourEyesGood's

As for the hb, well, everyone is going to have their own personal view. But she has no call letting that get in the way of her professional support for you, when the NHS regards your choice as a valid option. (In my case MW was hell-bent on making sure I didn't get the epidural I wanted - and she succeeded. Opposite end of the spectrum from your choice but recurring theme of MW who decided her choices were going to happen).

As for only seeing the nice MW, I would think at the most you would only be a week early or late, hopefully not a big problem? If it comes to the worst, could you see the GP instead? They ought to be able to do the same things, especially if you gave a little fib about not being able to make it when MW was in session My CM seemed to be constantly on leave and having other MWs from other surgeries standing in for her, and one time there was no stand-in and I had to see the GP (one who thought babies were fab )

tiany and honeymoo and loooops yay for heartbeat for you too!

Nice dresses tiany and tanmu

Rinnyx oh no, hope nosebleed didn't last long and you weren't wearing pastels

Gaga I hope you stop itching soon - just thinking about it is making me itch!

Hi emu

Phoned today for the CVS results in the hope they'd have them early as JFly suggested, and got the all-clear (yay)! Phone battery a bit flat and the MW was very softly spoken so I had to ask her to repeat herself quite frequently. Especially the bit where she said, 'the results, (crackle crackle) Downs (crackle).' Turns out that (crackle crackle) was 'there is no' (whew).

Seems that if it's not a trisomy then they're concerned that the HCG levels mean a placental problem (so will have to have a 24-week placental scan), but it could mean nothing wrong with the placenta at all and I don't know whether this would ever have been flagged or of concern if I hadn't had the triple serum test. I do feel that I'm out of the fire, into the frying pan that is just barely warm

Cor I hope they tell me the gender when they send the full karyotype results. They do tell you if pos at the 20-week scan at this hospital, if you want to know.

DP wants the laptop so better let him

Goodnight, flumps!

llandb · 01/06/2010 21:31

emu x-posted, how scary for you! Glad the cause is discovered. A friend of mine has/had a 'cut on her placenta' - causes bleeding but not a danger - wonder if that's the same thing? Hope you can relax now

PrivetDancer · 01/06/2010 21:34

That's great news llandb!!

Sabie · 01/06/2010 22:21

Hi all,

The food lists are fascinating. I have never been able to manage breakfast....I am now forcing down a banana! But when I do start eating at about 11.00a.m. then I just can't stop! I have never eaten so much fruit but there's plenty of biscuits, chocolates, crisps going in too. Have put on 3lbs.

But at last, I have a proper bump, though not quite enough to get into maternity clothes. Tiany Tanmu I LOVE the dresses!

Am getting really achy pains along either side to my lower bump. Is this normal? I think it just 'growing pains' but very uncomfortable. Anyone else?

Have booked a week away to Greece - yippee! We are normally 'activity' people so have booked in somewhere where DH can do windsurfing and stuff and I can chill in comfort but....do you think I can get away with doing a sailing course? Sorry, can't remember who said they were going sailing in August???

rollerbaby · 01/06/2010 22:22

That is BRILLIANT llandb!! I bet you'll sleep soundly tonight!

Pidgin · 02/06/2010 07:35

Great news landb! Big relief, I'm sure.

I like the dresses Tiany and Tanmu! I have indulged in a couple of maternity purchases on ebay but they haven't turned up yet - I have a smart work do on Friday and I'm really hoping at least one of them comes in the post before then, or I will be going in leggings and a big Tshirt...

My diet is also with hmmsleep's, FourEyesGood and others. I figure that I am eating heathily - in that I'm trying to get my five-a-day, high-fibre, lots of calcium and vitamins, enough protein, etc - but on top of that I am eating lots I don't need to, like cakes and biscuits. Loooopy it sounds to me as though you are eating very healthily and your midwife doesn't know what she's talking about. Midwives aren't nutritionists after all - I mentioned to mine that I was putting on quite a bit of weight (not surprising really) and her advice was to try and eat a hot lunch as it fills you up more?! So not exactly a fountain of dietary wisdom. I would ignore her in the knowledge you are doing really well to eat so healthily.

Sabie I haven't had those pains but I was reading a pg guide the other day which mentioned that they are common at this stage, just growing pains as you say. V jealous of your holiday, sounds lovely!

welcome emu!

CardiCorgi · 02/06/2010 08:27

Welcome emu I hope everything goes smoothly for you now.

I was a bit worried about how healthily everyone seems to be eating, but am relieved that I am not the only one managing to put away a fair amount of chocolate too. Yesterday, as well as normal healthy stuff - chicken, rice, extra veggies at lunch; pasta and salad in the evening, I also managed a large choc chip cookie which I shared with Dh (later regretted having shared it, it was very nice) and a bounty mid-afternoon whilst sitting at my desk. Oh dear.

Sabie it was me thinking about sailing. The sailing school have said that if it is ok with my doctor, then they are happy to take me. Dh and I want to do a Day Skipper course and this might be the last chance for a year or two. I chatted to a friend and she had done her course when 8 months pregnant!

I'm also getting stretching pains around my flump and if I sneeze or cough when lying down it really hurts. Tell me that my stomach muscles will recover one day, please.

llandb · 02/06/2010 09:26

Cardi I quite fancy a bounty bar! Much more appealing than my muesli which I can't wade through. I was quite disappointed that the bounty pack didn't come filled with chocolate

Thanks everyone - yes, slept very soundly!

Junk food is good for us - enables us to keep good food down!

Sabie and Cardi the sailing (and holiday for Sabie) sound fab! Hope you both get to go.

smokeybacon · 02/06/2010 09:27

landb so glad your results are good. Hope you managed a good nights sleep last night!

Lovely dresses! I love maxi dresses and am heading to New Look at lunch to browse their selection. They do quite a good maternity range.

Hello emu. Hope you will be able to enjoy your pregnancy now. Its good that they found a cause for the bleeding.

sabie your holiday sounds lovely. A week chilling on a beach sounds divine!

We're heading to France for the last two weeks of August. I'll be 25 weeks by then, and I expect, huge by then. Am actually beginning to worry about going now. Think I need to check our insurance.

comtessa · 02/06/2010 10:03

Congrats llandb! That's great news and also emu, so happy it's all okay - hope it's plain sailing for the both of you from now on.

Also, just out of interest - how much weight has everyone gained? I'm 14+3 and have gained about 9lbs - but then I haven't been doing my usual two dance classes a week which kept me in trim pre-pregnancy as have been too nauseous/tired. Am trying to eat healthier now so as not to gain too much more too quickly but already planning on rejoining Weightwatchers when BF!
Happy Tuesday everyone!
xx

b00kw0rm · 02/06/2010 10:19

llandb- what a relief getting the all clear!
Welcome to emu- sounds like your bleeding was very similar to mine... they also found an area of haemorrage in my uterus completely seperate from baby and placenta, but I know what you mean about being worried about finally going public- I'm 17+5 now and still haven't told any of my 'mum' friends!

Thank god most people seem to be eating lots too- I'm like comtessa in that I need to eat every 2-3 hours, but am trying to be fairly healthy and so far have only put on about 1 pound!
And all the holiday plans sound fab- we're going to Greece for a week in early September, but seems a long way away at the moment, especially when this morning was so grey and misty...
Hope everyone's having a fab Tuesday!

PrivetDancer · 02/06/2010 10:32

I've suddenly put on about 5lb in the last week! had not gained anything up to then (which was strange in itself) but a bit gutted to have suddenly gained so much, esp as my diet has not changed in the last week particularly!
Oh well I am still doing better than last time. WW when breastfeeding is great - you get 10 extra points
My diet is not great though, like others. I struggle to find anything I actually fancy eating, so when I do eat it tends to be crap. making up for it with expensive zita west vitamins
Trying to keep the fibre up as much as possible though else it's me that suffers!

harmonyb23 · 02/06/2010 10:35

Comtessa I have put on about 2lbs in total. Had put on some weight during the first 8 weeks but lost that from being to nauseous to eat. I was overweight to start with so think that I am losing some of my "fat weight" and replacing it with baby weight which means my weight is now staying practically the same.

Congrats to llandb and emu and hope that everything continues to go well for the pair of you!

Everyone's food lists seem so healthy. I have been eating what I thought was quite a lot but now seem to be wondering if I am not eating enough. Yesterday I had:

No breakfast (as I never eat it - don't like cereal or toast really)
Soup with 2 slices of bread for lunch
Packet of ready salted crisps as a snack
Small portion of pasta with sauce for tea
and for afters a fruit salad.

I don't really feel all that hungry as of recently. But haven't been feeling sick either so I guess that is good.

I am going to start on my ironing today, haven't done it in a while and there is a massive pile in the spare room which I'd like to get rid of so I can finally start babyfying the room. Keep panicking that I don't have a lot of time as MIL keeps asking whether I have started buying baby clothing etc yet... Makes me think I should have everything ready... Just want to get the room sorted first!!!

comtessa · 02/06/2010 10:52

harmonyb23 please feel free to ignore MIL! I haven't got anything yet except one babygrow and music mobile from my mum! Also, we're moving house in 2 - 3 months so I'm waiting until we're moved in to get/do anything. So whatever you do, you'll be way ahead of me!

xx
