Looking for some fellow late Januaryers to whisper about BFPs for late Jan 2011!! Just taken the test this afternoon and thrilled to be pg with #3 potentially (two DDs who are 19m and 3y). Anyone else out there?

I dunno LadyB, I think twin boys for me would be quite fun!! Like you it would be two of each. Saves you having to think whether three is enough or not!

Anyone else looking pregnant at all? Or is it just that these trousers make my bum look fat? (cue: "no, those trousers don't make your bum look fat, but all the cakes you shove in your gob sure do!"

Oh boooooo to no brie for another 7.5 months. My mum brought me in a full brie the first time she visited me in hospital with DD1, she hadn't got the bread out of the bag before I'd bitten a massive chunk out of the brie. Lushhhhhhhhhhhhh.

2nd pregnancy normal cheddar made me puke [desperately emoticon]. For me, cheese is my lifeline. Have puked after dairy this time too. We are not amused!!

Still haven't got that yellow M&M moules

Well I have just got back from the 1st GP appointment - not a success. My GP surgery is a teaching practice and I saw one of the fledgling rotation GPs. I knew about this in advance and was fine with it as it was the only appointment I could get to fit around work.

I knew this appointment was basically just to get me into the antenatal system, so didn't expect much. However, I did have specific questions about endometriosis (I had an op. for this in February) and about toxoplasmosis.

I asked if I could be tested for toxoplasmosis because we have a cat who I love to distraction, but is very scratchy and bitey (he took a chunk out of my finger 2 days ago). So the GP does a thin watery smile, says she is not concerned about the risk to me but the risk to the baby, and asks whether I am going to keep the cat - her tone and expression strongly indicating that I shouldn't.

I have seen nothing on the NHS Choices website, patient.co.uk, my pregnancy books or from the accumulated wisdom of MN which says cats are a risk per se. It just says you shouldn't clean the litter tray. On the other hand, she's the doctor so should know best. What if she's right and I've already endangered the baby?

I would like to believe all the other stuff I've seen which indicates the risk of toxoplasmosis is easily managed by avoiding cat poo. I would be heartbroken if the cat had to go.

Sorry this is long, I am actually quite upset.

BubbaAndBump · 01/06/2010 20:04

Poor you and boo to insensitive GPs trying to look clever in front of students. I have two cats. Had them both since before 1st DD - yes, cat poo is to be avoided during pregnancy (whereas you can play with it to your heart's content outside of pregnancy ). Not suffered at all throughout the two pregnancies, though I know some people get funny about it - be sensible about the litter tray (great excuse anyway not to do it!) and just make non-committal noises to your GP when you see her again. Was she worried about the cat scratching you now and it affecting the baby? Or was she worried in case the cat scratches the baby once born? Cos my cats legged it out of the room whenever my baby came in - still do in fact!

Thanks Bubba, that helps. The GP was the student; just her, me & DP in the room. hopefully by the time I next go there she will have moved on through the rotation. I think she was worried about the cat infecting me now. He definitely avoids babies so I don't think that will be a problem.

I thought it seemed a bit disproportionate tbh but, you know, when a doctor says something....

I shall conclude that this doctor is not sound on cats and therefore not to be trusted (buries head in sand after checking cat has not used it first).

LadyBuzz · 01/06/2010 20:16

bubba I would secretly love it but 4 Dcs under 5 .

flora you poor thing your GP is an arse. I'm almost positive that toxoplasmosis or the thingy that makes you susceptible is tested routinely by the MW when your bloods are done - I remember a friend of mine had a query over it with her cat and it was all fine.

I had cats during my last 2 pgs too unfortunbately they had to go as DS1 is allergic and they too had a tendancy to leg it when the boys were around!

Oooh I found a really really bad thing today - I have access to the full medical library inc ALL of the pregnancy books - This is better then google I think I shall be steering well away from them!!

Rocklover · 01/06/2010 20:22

Hi, can I join? My edd (according to NHS calculator) is 31st Jan 2011. I am currently 5+1. Feeling pretty bleugh already, not looking forward to the symptoms getting worse.

This is my second child, DD1 is 5 years old, can't wait to tell her about this little one.

littleyellowchicken · 01/06/2010 20:32

I'm so tired. Meant to be enjoying half term and feel like sleeping my way through it all. Not sure how I'll survive 7 weeks of the final term. Also have woken up feeling very nauseous the last 2 mornings while still in bed. It goes once I'm up, but really - getting up at 6am while on holidays is not right!
Welcome Rocklover. How much worse did your symptoms get the last time?

saffronbun · 01/06/2010 20:39

Poor you, Flora, student GPs are definitely not to be trusted. I used to work on a maternity ward (not in a medical capacity) and when the student docs turned up we spent most of the first two weeks laughing at them. I remember one getting literally covered in baby poo up to his armpits. He didn't know where to put himself. I also had first GP visit today and she told me to wash all my vegetables very carefully - er...that's it? Okay. Proper booking visit is scheduled for 1st July!

Rocklover · 01/06/2010 20:43

I was in hospital on a drip for a week due to constant diarrhoea and sickness. I have nausea and upset tum already, oh the joys! And believe it or not, the day I conceived I went down with the Norovirus, how bloody rubbish is that???

Rocklover · 01/06/2010 20:45

Oh and I am in the process of moving to Devon, head off tomorrow in fact. But sat and sun in a Luton van with my Dad feeling sick as a dog and tummy achey was NOT fun!

knackered76 · 01/06/2010 20:47

Bubba - good news on the brie! I discovered President brie in my second pregnancy, it's pasturised so a okay to eat .I had shed loads of it and plan to do so again!

BubbaAndBump · 01/06/2010 20:56

Oh knackered I think I love you.

moulesfrites · 02/06/2010 08:23

Sorry Bubba here is your yellow M&M!! sorry for the delay!!

Rocklover welcome and sorry you are having a hard time with the nausea.

Went out with two friends last night and was totally rubbish about keeping it a secret. I offered to drive and then as I asked for an orange juice my friend just looked at me and said "You're pregnant!" in a very accusing tone! She said she knew as soon as I offered to drive as I never do that, which is true but they were lovely about it and it was good to be able to chat about it.

Hope everyone else is ok and not having too bad a time with symptoms.

saffronbun · 02/06/2010 09:08

Bad news on the brie front, I'm afraid (from the goverment website):

Why can't you eat runny cheeses when you're pregnant?
In order to avoid the risk of listeriosis pregnant women are advised to avoid eating ripened soft cheeses of the Brie, Camembert and blue-veined types, whether pasteurised or unpasteurised.

This is because ripened soft cheeses are less acidic and contain more moisture than hard cheeses, and are therefore more inclined to allow growth of undesirable bacteria such as Listeria, which may harm your unborn child.

However; it does say you can eat them if you cook them. So I'm gonna suggest baking a whole camembert until it goes squishy and then dunking slices of apple and french bread in it.

Also, welcome Rocklover, hope the move to Devon goes well

BubbaAndBump · 02/06/2010 10:02

Boo Saffron, (although I did google searches and found similar advice just after I declared undying love to knackered so didn't want to spoil the love-fest-buzz )

Thanks for the M&M moules - tasted even better having had to wait so long for it

Nauseous doesn't cover it today, and sooooooo knackered. Taking the kids out for a spicy Thai lunch which will be great for me but not great for them . Ha. Pregnancy card being played early here. Gnawing on a ginger biscuit and sipping on cold water just doesn't cover it for me.

Welcome Rocklover I'll add you next time I post...

President isn't soft, well not in a brie sense anyway Having eaten my way through tons of the stuff in my second I shall continue in my 3rd! It's a bit like my microwave steriliser I had for number 1. It's only when I read the instructions for my second baby I realised I hadn't be sterilising for my first so decided not to bother sterilising anything seeing as I clearly hadn't first time. Not the given advice, but worked for me

Enjoy the sun ladies, we're off for a picnic with the dinosaurs . . . .

kipperthedog · 02/06/2010 22:11

Hello ladies, hope you are all well. Haven't been on for a bit, sunshine & half term getting in the way! Been feeling very nauseous this last week and tired.

Got my dating scan tomorrow, very excited, not sure how I've managed to keep it a secret so far..!!

RobynLou · 02/06/2010 22:17

hello, sooooo tired!

cbeebies is my friend when its gets to 4pm and I just can't keep up toddler pace anymore!

got my booking in app at 8am on sunday. t's a group session which i'm a bit about, and at the hospital - I was hoping to totally avoid our local rubbish hospital, we have a lovely clinic on the high street that does ultrasound, and I'm aiming for a home birth this time, but hey.

had a horrible time there with dd, so not looking forwards to going back there, even just to book in.

Shanster · 03/06/2010 00:41

Hey ladies, had my check in appt and scan today, everything is ok but no heartbeat yet (5w+6) so have to go back in 2 weeks. Trying not to worry, I think it is normal at this stage to not hear a heartbeat?
Rocklover, you make me feel like a wimp for complaining about being tired and a wee bit sick! Poor you!

knackered76 · 03/06/2010 09:09

Shanster - I had an early scan at about 5 weeks so nothing there except a sac, going back in a week now to see if it's viable. Generally you can't see an heart beat until at least 6+ and it's more likely to be around 7 so all totally normal

Rocklover - booooooo, how rubbish for you. Hope you're feeling a bit better soon.

Oh well, another day of half term, am off to buy the mini ones sandals and football stickers (I blame DH for that one!)

Enjoy your days ladies

RunningKatie · 03/06/2010 20:55

Hello ladies

Nausea kicking in here, have been shattered but tonight am full of energy - think it's because OH comes home tomorrow so I'm cleaning, just in case he thinks I live like a slob when he's away with work.

Am now 6 weeks, have told a few more people, but am still trying to keep it quiet. Think my boobs bursting out of my work summer dresses may give the game away

moulesfrites · 03/06/2010 21:52

Hello ladies. I have been feeling a bit sick for the first time today, and also very fatigued. Also had another irrational food related panic - bought a M&S turkish delight pudding today, which actually turned out to be pretty bleurgh, but only afterwards did I realise that the chocolate part had raw egg in it. I'll be ok though won't I? With the feeling sick, I'm panicking that I have poisoned myself. What with this and the the peanut M&M story you'll all be thinking I'm overdoing it on the sweet stuff, but these are isolated incidents and I have been having my 5 a day, I promise!!

Hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather!

saffronbun · 03/06/2010 22:12

Hello all, I've also been feeling a bit nauseous and knackered today, although I wonder if the sicky feeling has not been helped by how many biscuits I've eaten

Moules, I would have thought surely they'd pasturise their eggs - but even if not, you were probably still a whole lot safer eating that than eating, say, something off a deli counter that's been sat about for who knows how long.

Hope everyone's had a good day in the sun!

RobynLou · 03/06/2010 22:40

Hiya,
moules, I'm sure you'll be fine

I'm NOT enjoying having to deal with a smelly toddler at the moment, she loves her boiled egg for breakfast, but oh my this morning - bleeeerrrrgh! I was retching over the dirty dishes this morning too, just left the house in the end, I couldn't deal with it! (I did take the toddler with me btw...)
