Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Blimey it's quiet on here today!!!

TicTac is having her 4D scan today isnt she, wonder how it all went. Has anyone got their 20 week scans coming up? I'll be 20 weeks this Thursday and got scan next Friday but saw little baby last week because of infection. Still exciting to see him again though.

Talking of infection, was in a lot of pain on Thursday so went to see GP and he changed my antibiotics over and said he thought it was still the water infection. The pharmacist said the hospital shouldnt have put me on the original antibiotics because of being pregnant!!!! Luckily it wont harm the baby but you would think they would know wouldnt you!! I'm starting to feel better now and not peeing as much so new tablets are a lot better.

Been talking to a friend about what to do Christmas Eve, we will all be really close to dropping sproggies then wont we!!! And Christmas isn't that far away - yippee.

chloe55 · 13/09/2005 14:52

Oooh yeah, TicTac should be letting us know soon! I have my 20 week on the 27th, I'm sooooo impatient, can't wait!

Glad the water works are at least making improvements 3K .

I can't believe xmas is just over 3 months away. Oh, just realised my baby is due 5 months today (Feb13th). God, am I only 4 months pregnant?! The xmas debate has been an issue for us. We are due xmas at my mums this year and DH mum next year but I am reluctant for my mum's first grandchild to spend first xmas at MIL. Me and DH already arguing about it because he now thinks that I think my family is more important blah blah. Sod it, we will spend next year at our own home! Those in the family who want to come can.

3k · 13/09/2005 14:58

I'm the same as you Chloe, I would rather spend first Christmas next year at my mums and it is difficult. LAst year I said I wanted to spend Christmas on our own and then DH agreed we would go to his parents for dinner. I was not a happy bunny!!!

It does sound so far away when you say 5 months today your baby is due but arent we really pregnant for 10 months? 20 weeks is about 5 months isnt it??? Unless you count 5 weeks in one month. Oh well say you are five months anyway, it sounds better!! I am very impatient, roll on January I say then it could be anytime!!!

chloe55 · 13/09/2005 15:00

No, don't roll that far forward I'll be crapping myself in January!! I'm just never happy

3k · 13/09/2005 15:04

So will I but I want to get there anyway!!! Have you thought about your birth plan yet? I think I'm going to go with the flow and if I need drugs I'll just have all of them!! As I had IVF when I had my eggs removed and I was so scared I told them to make sure I had enough pethadine and I slept through the whole thing!! It was bliss!!

spacecadet · 13/09/2005 15:08

ive got my 20 week scan, a week thursday, cant wait to see a pic of tic tacs 4d scan, lucky devil, i was going to have a babybond scan but i still havent got round to booking it. im having trouble sleeping, ive got really bad backache and my hips hurt, i keep waking every hour in the night. im shsattered!

chloe55 · 13/09/2005 15:10

Me and Dh have talked about it a lot recently. I was def gonna have an epidural asap, wasn't gonna fanny about with pain etc etc but I have since changed my mind. Most of my friends who have had babies say epidural! epidural! However, I am thinking of waterbath during labour (I think I'd want to get out for the birth) I am a bit reluctant to use pethidine as it goes over to baby too and I don't know whether it might make me vomit (I have a huge fear of being sick). I really don't know what I will do on the day though - I guess sometimes you don't have an option. DH keeps saying I have a low painthreshold too which is p*ssing me off! I always thought it was relatively high

3k · 13/09/2005 15:11

Spacecadet I really suffered with my back last night and couldnt get comfy then needed a wee!! I was ok once I got settled but it was so uncomfortable.

I cant wait to see Tictacs scan, wish I could have a babybond scan but too poor and cant justify it when our pram costs about the same.

chloe55 · 13/09/2005 15:13

Glad I am not alone on the backache/peeing through the night annoyance! I am actuall off to doc on thur am re my back. I am like a little old woman in the morning - I literally can not hold my own weight (I'm not overweight, btw) - I think I might have damaged my back somehow.

3k · 13/09/2005 15:14

Chloe I'd like to see a bloke go through birth!!! My osteopath said I shouldnt have an epidural and no pethidine and go natural!!!!! I dont think I would be able to and I'm a panicker too so once the pain starts I'll be off on one and will want everything they can throw at me!!! I'm umming and arring about epidural but dont like the catheter idea.

chloe55 · 13/09/2005 15:34

I know, tell me about it 3k! I guess it is a decision we will all probably make at the time. Everyone tells me they never stuck to their birthplan anyway!

Tabs · 13/09/2005 15:40

Blimey - the chatterboxes are on line then .

Haven't given masses of thought to my birthplan, but would ideally like to do it with as little pain relief as possible. If the birthing pool is built at my hospital in time then I'd like to labour in that, but like Chloe, I'm not 100% sure about giving birth in it.

Now that I've started yoga, I'd def like to make it an active birth. The yoga teacher is a retired midwife, so has lots of advice to offer on things that like, which I think will be useful.

3k and Chole55, the pains not that bad, so long as you get a chance for it to build slowly (ie they don't induce you) you can start off by breathing thru it, then get onto gas n air, n pethadine if you need it, personally I'd epidural as a last resort, as if you go the other way, you can be done and out of hospital in under 12 hrs! huge bonus, when you hear the noise on the maternity ward! Obviously each birth is individual, so you don't know until you get there! I was lucky with dd and had mainly a backache labour, so it wasn't too bad and I coped with pethadine (gas n air made me sick, nice) and breathing, but who knows this time may well be horrible, you just don't know!

Thanks for the recipes Tabs n Amanda1, our house will dine on fine cuisine as soon as I get around to buying the ingredients!!

Christmas so soon! argh! might have to buy some prezzies in Oct then!

flamesparrow · 13/09/2005 16:37

Oooh so much happening in one day!!!

With regards to breasts - mine didn't change size at all last time Amanda, and haven't so far this time... the only reason I'm changing bras is because the wires are hurting where they are achey already

I got my "support" bras today... how come if they are so supportive, my nipples are down round my knees???

20 week scans sound sooooooo far away - I'm only 16 weeks!

Birth plan - I didn't have one last time at all! I had hospital water birth, with gas and air. This time I am planning on a home birth. My friend says I can use her birthing pool Dh isn't so keen on the idea of filling and emptying it . I'd like again, gas and air, and to have it in the water, but for some reason I don't see the water happening. My mum is all confused that I want the baby in the lounge and not in bed... I was laid down for a lot of labour last time, but this time I'd like to be a lot more mobile, so it makes sense to be downstairs. Soo confused about whether to have the injection afterwards or not this time... last time I was ill for the first few days after, and I don't know if i reacted to the injection, or my very old placenta. I think I'll see how I feel on the day!

Other than that... bought jeans and some tops today too.

I did breastfeed last time, and didn't have any problems, so hopefully it was something else causing yours, and that not changing size doesn't indicate the same thing (does that make sense???)

FS I got to go in the hospital bath last time! as the birthing pool still hadn't been plumbed in properly!! that kinda did the trick for a bit! I tried to keep mobile for most of the time, they only got me on the bed for the delivery, and that was only cause they were having monitoring probs....I think mobility was the key to a quick delivery, 8hrs start to finish although I could be wrong....
Oh tell your dh, mines on Server: Azjol-nerub (?!) his character is tickticktick (men eh)

Hi all, sorry I couldn't get on earlier to update and thanks for asking around after me!

The scan was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone who has half the chance of going. Bear in mind I am only 19 weeks and in the UK they protest scanning for some weeks yet because of the detail available. I will post a picture up when I get home (no facility to do anything here) and when one of you tells me how to do it ;)

Our little one is a right old wriggler and tried time and time again to stand up with no avail (not enough muscle yet), it also rubbed its eyes, had a pee, rolled around, kicked me to high heaven, played with its feet and did some serious yoga moves even the yoga guru would be proud of!

On top of all that....SHE flashed her tuppence loud and clear

Love, XX

Ooh - TicTac's a little girl! How exciting to know already. Roll on our batch of scans next week when we'll hopefully find out some more baby flavours!

Good luck with the heparin Amanda. You're not alone on this thread in taking it. Morgan does too, and had a feeling there was someone else (Kando or Yeahbut?) but it's not on the stats so not sure who.

What lovely short labours some of you had last time. Amanda, I know someone with 3 children whose first labour lasted about 4 hours. Her second was 2 and her third was only 1hr 10 mins!

chloe55 · 14/09/2005 08:51

Wow! Congrats TicTac, PMSL at your post . Oooh I'm even more excited for my scan now and we were in 2 minds as to have a 3d but after that I don't think I can not!!

I am afraid I am a bit unsure of what your problems involve Amanda so I can't give you any comforting words but I hope everything goes ok for you.

flamesparrow · 14/09/2005 09:51

Yay for girlie TicTac!

Frizbe - I will pass on the info DH is taking fancy photos of the little guys today, do you wanna cat me and I'll email you them? He says that they are the first ones he made, and he's doing better ones with better finishing touches now.

I didn't get much in the way of pain relief from the pool last time... only got in it just as I started wanting to push! I was 15hrs start to finish, and 4 in "established labour". It was a nice doable length of time for me - slow enough to go reasonably gently, but fast enough not to get exhausted. Those with 2hr labours just scare me!
