Nymphadora glad you had a good scan - it's sooooo reassuring isn't it

I had my booking in appointment with the MW today - to my surprise/delight it was the MW who delivered my DS in August 2007, and she remembered me/him we had a lovely chat and I cried a bit, bloomin' hormones...she booked me a dating scan for next Tueday when I'll be just shy of 10 weeks - I am BRICKING it, absolutely terrified, even though I've been sick as a dog for weeks now. She also said if/when I get to 12 weeks, I was welcome to make an appointment any time for the MW to check the heartbeat if I'd find it reassuring.

I love my midwife, can you tell?

Ooh nice new home! Loads of space, which we're gonna need!

Can I have some mini eggs? Ginger biscuit anyone........

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 11/03/2010 20:10

just marking my place! I like the thread title

Ninthwave - v glad it went well today - your MW sounds great!

NinthWave · 11/03/2010 20:24

Vikks forgot to say congrats on your scan today too Have you tarted telling people yet?

SeaShells she is amazing, I am so lucky to live where I do and have such great care. The extra care I'm being offered due to my MC history is just fantastic - that's why I cried in the MW office today I am pathetically grateful!

Booking my place...

MummyLovesSadie · 11/03/2010 20:27

NinthWave you & I have had the same amount of mc's, have you not been offered any early scans? I'm 9+4 & have had two scans.

NinthWave · 11/03/2010 20:32

MLS Yes I had one at 6+5 which showed bean spot on for dates and good heartbeat etc, I asked at the time if I'd get a follow-up scan and they said no, only the dating scan at around 12 weeks.

Trouble is, all my MCs have been around the 10-12 week mark so the 6 week scan only reassured me for a few days...then I was back to worrying again.

Ooooo I love the thread title!!!

Vikks Congrats on your scan!!!

Ninth Seriously can I come and see your midwife, she sounds lovely. Mines a bit of a wet lettice.

Nymph A stealth EPU, they weren't talking in code when you went were they?

Saying that I have spoken to one who was literally kick ass over the phone. She really sorted me out, I may have to take chocolates into the unit when I go for my scan to say thank you.

I read in the Mumsnet guide to being preggers that some people take chocolates in for the midwifes to say thank you for after they've had baby. Would anyone do that?

I think I would and I think that I would probably forget and then make DH stop off at Asda on to way to labour ward to get the chocolates.

You can just imagine it can't you, the midwife asking you if you had remembered your babygros and you answering 'no but I remembered the chocolates for you all'.

NinthWave · 11/03/2010 20:35

I sent my MW a thankyou card as she basically saved my DS's life, I think I took some biscuits in too. Someone told me to send two lots - one for the day shift, one for the night shift

Hermya- possibly , I just cried!

I have just got my mn book but didnt open it in the stress!

Hermya321 · 11/03/2010 20:43

Ninth Nah I can understand that. I'll have to put them on the bag list nearer the time.

Nymph I laughed so much when I read that book, it is quite funny. I'm glad you're sorted though, I was quite worried about you.

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 11/03/2010 20:58

coo-eee found you all

Ninth Your midwife sounds lovely. It's nice she remembered you. I had a male midwife with DS. He was wonderful but has moved back to spain. I found him on facebook and asked if he would come back late sept. He said he was really pleased i wanted him to deliver but wouldn't be over when i'm due . Get to meet new midwife on tues though.

I have eaten dinner tonight (1st time i've eaten anything other than pringles for two weeks). Really scared i'm going to be violently sick, even though i've taken the meds. I really don't want to end up in hospital again. Think this is turning into a bit of a phobia now.

MummyLovesSadie · 11/03/2010 21:21

Ninth I too would have been a wreck between scans if it hadn't been for my wonderful acupuncturist who I see every Monday. Every week she has told me that my pregnancy pulse has been so strong & that is just the kind of reassurance you need.

Grotbags I too had a lovely male Spanish midwife! He would have delivered dd if they hadn't changed shift halfway through my labour.

This is going to sound like a real dumb-ass thing to ask but has anybody felt any movement yet? I've been telling myself I'm imagining it but I don't think I am.

tiredfeet · 11/03/2010 21:29

love the thread title

Ninth I'm so pleased you've got a lovely midwife, I think medical staff more than anything make a lot of difference depending on how they treat people, lovely ones can help you feel so much more supported

grotbags - delighted for you that you managed to eat your dinner tonight!! I know a bit what a big deal that is , will be keeping my fingers crossed for you that it stays down, I know how much stronger I feel now with a little bit more food inside me. Hoping you keep improving now.

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 11/03/2010 21:32

His name wasn't Ramon by any chance MummyLovesSadie?

I thought i felt movement last week but DH said it was probably wind!

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 11/03/2010 21:34

Thanks tiredfeet feeling a bit queezy but keeping my fingers crossed too

MummyLovesSadie · 11/03/2010 21:37

Grotbags I don't know what his name was, all I know was that he came from the Canaries. I did wonder about it being wind but it doesn't feel like that. It feels more like a tickly/tapping sensation. I know they say you feel it earlier with subsequent children but surely this is too early?

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 11/03/2010 22:20

It might not be too early. There was a thread on here a few weeeks ago about early movement. I'll see if i can find it.

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 11/03/2010 22:25

found it

loueytbg · 11/03/2010 23:17

Just got back from meal out with my antenatal group and should be going to bed but just wanted to say vikks and especially nymphadora - I'm so so pleased you had good scans. Will read rest tomorrow but I need sleep now...

Hermya321 · 12/03/2010 07:21

Mummylovessadie No in second pregnancies you can feel it earlier, plus you can feel it earlier if you're on the slim side of things as well. Not that others can't, that was what the books told me.

KSal · 12/03/2010 08:07

Mummylovessadie how exciting that you can feel your baby already! My immediate reaction was 'surely not' but reading that other thread it really seems possible!

I felt kicks relatively early (for a first time) last time at around 17/18 weeks and it really makes sense that you would know more what you are looking for this time. I can't wait for that

Ivytheterrible · 12/03/2010 09:16

Mmmmmm shiney new thread nice...

Mummylovessadie I thought I could feel something the other night in bed as well. Just a kind of swirl-ey and pulsing feeling?

But it's my first and I'm only 10 weeks so just thought I was going slightly menkul.

I want a scan... it's been nearly 2 weeks since got booked in with the midwife but no appointment has dropped through the letterbox GGGrrrrrr

On another note I did have a Mothers day card from my bump today through the box... not sure who sent it but I suspect my sister in law as it's her sense of humour!

Nymphadora · 12/03/2010 09:17

I have been feeling movements for years (dd2 was/still is hyper), can't wait for the real thing again!

I have just had the most wonderful toast , 6 slices and am debating another, it was sooooooo delicious.

I also found a new food last night. TRIFLE. I cried this am cos the cake shop wasn't open and I couldn't get another yet.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 12/03/2010 09:26

Nice thread title.

Had a busy few days and got an early scan tomorrow morning (7 weeks), so am keeping fingers crossed. Feeling totally dreadful. I'm at the hungry but can't think of what I can eat stage. Except, of course, toast, sometimes. But as nymph has mentioned trifle, I'm thinking about custard.... mmmmmmm.
