No no i'm here, just trying to think. What degrees do you have?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/03/2010 17:44

Vet, Zoology, but tbh just looking a temp cafe work etc because I can't locum (they will not do h+s for one day/ a week in the practice, just go for "someone else with more experience") can't get permanent as will really sour relations, I have recently been dx with quite a complex dz that I'm only just recovering from the first bout of which again will affect working and I'm showing already.

Telesales it is then

Its only for the next few months - as soon as little one is born I will be approaching for part-time permanent until the dc get older.

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 12/03/2010 17:51

Is there a temping agency where you live that may be able to help. It might not be ideal but at least you could choose when and where you work. You are then employed by the agency so should be ok for maternity pay etc

tiredfeet · 12/03/2010 17:52

SeaShells you totally have my sympathy on the job hunt! I've got 'too many degrees' too and its hard convincing people that you just want a job to earn some money. I had to quit my job despite the recession as my boss was eeeevil and it was making me ill
I got a job in a library in the end and love it, they weren't and aren't bothered by my degrees and in fact many of the people working there are way over qualified. Public sector in general can be a good bet as they seem a bit more willing to employ over qualified people in my experience, and there's more scope for part time work.

grotbags - thrilled for you that your meal stayed down! good luck with tonight

I'm having a poorly day today but DH has the day off so he is at home annoying me looking after me

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/03/2010 18:04

I thinking temping agency is a good idea - the job centre are crap(I signed on as soon as I finished work and relocated, not anticipating the certaain happy event that has since REALLY complicated matters and is making me nauseous all day today!)

I'm not a work snob - but people placing me just don't get that. I just want work that pays so I can resume my career next year!! And not f* off travelling for a year (why is that more understandable than taking time to be a sahm to men?!!)

IlooklikeGrotbagstoday · 12/03/2010 18:07

Do you find you get less rest when DH's are home. When i came out of hospital DH took it in turns with his parents to stay at home to help with DS. I spent more time telling him where things were kept and what to give DS to eat, what to dress him in etc that i didn't get much rest at all.

I'm not sure i will be going tonight now after all. My friend is due to give birth at any minute and i am on call to look after her DD. DH has decided that he doesn't want to drive tonight but would prefer to get a cab so he can have a drink and really piss me off let his hair down. So what would have been a 20 min drive could take us anything up to an hour and a half to get home seeing as it is a friday night we could have to wait an hour for a cab to be available. We have had a big hormonal argument. I wouldn't mind but he has a friend coming over tomorrow night that he will no doubt want to have a drink with.

loobyboo · 12/03/2010 18:22

had a phone call from my gp re the blood test (for the blood clotting issues) which i had this morning and my levels are raised so he has temporary put my dose of fragmin up and arranging for me to have a scan on monday to check what is going on.

He did say that there are things that can alter the test results, infections, inflamation etc but with my history they can't take any chances.

Something else to worry about over the weekend, every slight twinge or pain i have anywhere makes me think dvt, but having blood thinners have helped reduced that feeling and now i have to get mind set again.

ho hum these things are sent to try us!!!!!

MummyLovesSadie · 12/03/2010 19:10

Ahhhhh just catching up after spending a day at the spa with a friend!

Seashells definitely an agency - job centre officially crap. I've been made redundant twice & both times went to an agency & ended up with a really good job.

On the subject of showing..... I've been in maternity clothes for two weeks ! I seriously look several months pregnant, in fact my friend I went to the spa with today is 17 weeks pregnant & our bumps were the same size! I've given up trying to hide it & I'm embracing it with bump-hugging mat clothes. I'll post a pic of it after the weekend.

Hermya321 · 12/03/2010 19:51

I've found out today that my DH's temp job have told him he's got a week left and then he'll be a bum. He started there and they promised him permenant work and well they've gone back and fourth over that one. This is old ground for us, he's been in and out of work for the last eighteen months. He's worked for a couple of places that got really hit hard by the recession and they ended up closing. I really feel for him, he doesn't need this. But bless him he was more concerned about my reaction.

Mummylovessadie Aww bless you have a bump!!

Loobyloo I can really sympathise.

Seashells Have you looked into nursery work, I've done it in the past when I've been a student and I always managed to find a job. Some of the larger nurseries will let you do bank work as well. I'm very impressed at your degrees though. Mines in the arts, I sometimes wonder if I should have done maths instead. But I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much as I did mine.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/03/2010 19:55

Yup, agency it is then.

I need to get some money to pay for all the vet courses I want to do in time for the relaunch next year

I have been mucking around thinking this pg may not work out, and I need to just crack on, accept it does seem to be and I need to work on the assumption I will look like a whale in 4 months time!

With that in mind I need to find a gorgeous dress to wow my ex colleagues at this year's weddings, and not look like a mammoth pg frump who gave up her career for 12 months

Hermya321 · 12/03/2010 20:46

seashells To be honest, what you're doing sounds like a fab idea and if you can do it then I'd say go for it. Also try Asos.com and their maternity section. They have some fab dresses on there.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/03/2010 21:21

Had a quick look at ASOS and it looks really good - thanks for the suggestion!

Hermya321 I really hope you DH gets work more settled - so many peopl have been hit in the last couple of years, it really affects them, and their family. The job centre is full of a complete range of people looking for work-no sector is safe (unless you work for the "computer says no" brigade at the jobcentre!!)

Hermya321 · 12/03/2010 21:39

Seashells Your analogy made me laugh, thanks for that! I had a feeling it'll be ok so I'm holding onto that one. You're right though, so many people have had it tough. I count myself very blessed that I have my job when so many have lost theirs.

On a funnier note has anyone seen the advert with the big pile of singing five pound notes, it is really funny.

I wish my money was in piles and sang to me. I don't really have a pile so much as a black hole where my money should be. I expect this is the same for the majority of people though at the moment.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 13/03/2010 07:46

My fivers sing to me, though its the song "lonelieeeeee, I am Mr lonelieeeee, I have no bodyeeee, to call my own" ala Akon

Nymphadora · 13/03/2010 07:59

There you go seashells look for a job at the job centre!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 13/03/2010 08:07

PMSL Nymphadora, I have even considered it....

....but they are STRAIGHT out of the little britain sketch. The first advisor I saw had a 10min conversation with herself before calling me over. It involved her answering back to herself and getting cross. Impressive.

The power they wield!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 13/03/2010 08:21

Hi All. Just had a scan. 7 weeks today and a heartbeat of 136, which is a bit on the low side of normal and we'll check again in two weeks to see if it's gone up. Otherwise all good and am feeling sick as a dog.

Hermya321 · 13/03/2010 09:20

Ilovegregoryhouse Oh I like the nickname, my friend is seriously into House and loves it. I'm glad to hear that you had a good scan.

Seashells Mine just sobbed in a corner clutching a bottle of vodka singing along to 'All by myself'.

SilverSky · 13/03/2010 09:22

Can I join please?

This is our first baby, first pregnancy, i am 9 weeks and have an EDD of 21/22 Oct. Oh, and did I mention I am an old fart at 34, will be 35 at EDD.

I have filled out a bit too, esp, um, up top! Whereas I have never really had a tum, now I am looking bit bloated and my waist seems to have bogged off on its hols!

floozietoozie · 13/03/2010 09:22

ILGH - you've had a scan at eight in the morning? Are you in the UK? Glad it was ok.

I'm still in bed as DP is looking after DS cos I was awake with him in the night for ages. We're having trouble keeping him in his own bed. If he wakes in the night he gets really upset and wants to come in our bed. I tried lying down next to his bed (there's a mattress next to it) for ages but he didn't go off so gave in in the end. Oh, there we go, being summoned now, lie-in over!

Hermya321 · 13/03/2010 09:30

Silver Hi there, welcome to the thread!!!

Floozie Oh I hope your DS get ised to his own bed soon.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 13/03/2010 10:03

Floozie, had scan at 8.30 in Bahrain - 5.30 in the UK.

Shame about your lie-in. Grr.

Redheadgal · 13/03/2010 10:15

On the subject of maternity clothes... have just received invitation to posh wedding two weeks before my EDD. Am sort of worried because I don't know how I'll be feeling then, whether I'll just feel exhausted the whole time. Also I don't want to be the beached whale. Is it possible to look sophisticated, sexy and not at all like you're ready to pop at 8.5 months?

ILoveGregoryHouse · 13/03/2010 13:47

Hi Redhead, I went to a v posh do at 6 months pg. Got the ruffle dress from Isabella Oliver in violet with a super duper big hat. Was lovely. Then sold it on e-bay for 2/3 of what I bought it for. Now, that was a result. I also got to lounge round at the do, being fussed over by many people (except the bride and groom of course who were actually the most important people there lol, actually, no, including the bride who was my bf). You'll have a fab time. Assuming you don't give birth there. That would be embarassing.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 13/03/2010 15:10

ILoveGH you really would upstage the bride if you gave birth there!

RedHeadGirl at 8.5mths I'm not sure if sexy or not looking like you are about to pop is possible, but you can do sophisticated and sitting down having food/drinks brought to you all day! My SIL was dancing at 11pm at a wedding a couple of yrs ago 7.5mths pg, although she slept for most of the following day!

My fav shop for everything, when I'm working lol I like the mocha dress...
