Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

itshappenedagain the hospital don't let you home without a car seat?? That's so weird, what about people who will get the bus home or whatever?
I do have a license but hardly ever drive cos I hate it - I do wonder if I'm gonna have to get my bum in gear and just drive more once I'm on my own with lo

marquise from spying other bumps mine is definitely low down too, and out front. It's only in the last 4 weeks or so (am 25 weeks today) that people have actually started noticing I'm pregnant and it's quite nice

heffa that made me laugh about the cat I was in a meeting today and my tummy was going mental- titch was having a rave..I wondered if anyone else could see it happening as it was so obvious, made me giggle

LuckyC · 03/02/2010 16:27

itshappenedagain thanks for the pram advice - sounds good because actually I do walk around a lot and we're in the country so needs to be robust. Sod it I am going to get it.

Carikube · 03/02/2010 17:02

I'm glad to see all the pram advice on here as well as I am useless about researching these things. Still don't know what we'll go with though...

We still need to think about what we're going to do about bedrooms as well as tht's the next thing that needs sorting but I can see that we will have the new dc in with us for ages whilst we try and make up our minds (dd was moved out at 12 days old to her own room as she just made too much noise )

mollybob · 03/02/2010 17:36

Hi all - all this pram talk has just got me even more confused - i'm not doing any shopping until I finish work (in 9 more weeks when I'll be 34 weeks) Haven't got the time and think I'm still in a bit of denial about having a baby. Feeling a bit more positive - less sick on the whole apart from this morning which was dreadful. Had a nice hospital appointment today and was listened to and they don't want me back for 10 weeks as I'm so well. Yippee. Been all a bit too much intervention until now just because I'm fat but consultant says not necessary. Had a quick scan and baby growing well and already head down - stay that way babe!

Hollyoaks · 03/02/2010 18:16

Hi all

Thanks for the get well vibes, dd slept right through after vomiting till 9ish and then woke up this morning like a new toddler. Been at work today but mil is impressed with what she eaten considering her tummy may be a little sore. Relief all round, hate it when she's ill and find it difficult to sleep. Even put the baby monitor on last night for the first time in a long time.

Mollybob - the pram talk is confusing me too, determined to stick to our pliko and buggy board or pliko + lightweight buggy if theres two of us.

Sorry not to reply to more people personally but chip shop chips just arrived for tea which will be followed by a Creme Egg. Gotta go.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 03/02/2010 18:33

Cupcake - I'm with you on the driving thing, i don't mind it generally but really don't enjoy driving around where I live in London because lots the roads always have parked cars down both sides and speed-bumps every hundred metres. I think I'll mainly stick to my own two feet and public transport with the baby, unless I'm heading out of town.

Carikube - we're going to start off with ours in our room too, but don't know how long we'll last. My mum said they only lasted 2 nights with me when I was little before turfing me out into the nursery for too much snuffling

Molly - sounds like you had a really good appointment today . Glad I'm not the only one counting down the weeks to go until I finish work. I've even made a chart where I can cross the days off every evening like a sort of demented advent calendar . 11 weeks and 2 days left to go until I finish on 23 April!

sweetkitty · 03/02/2010 18:45

Bedrooms - we are having to build another one! Oh just the thought of it scares me. LO will be in with us for the first year anyway, I wouldn't sleep unless they are right next to me, everyone is different though but the thought of getting up for feeds doesn't appeal to me. Maximum sleep is the strategy round here.

LuckyC - is it the Bee you are getting? They are lovely, saw one with a pink hood and cosy toes in Mothercare last time I was in, pram lust ahoy!

memorylapse · 03/02/2010 18:56

dont forget ladies..I may have had 29 prams..but thats over the course of 20 years..so not bad going really....more embarassing that I didnt keep a single one

went to diabetes clinic today and Im in a bad mood now..apprently they no longer routinely induce at 38/39 weeks with diabetes if your sugars are well controlled..so I will be left to go to term

Im quite upset really as I have big babies and DS2 was 9lb 7 at 38 weeks,I had shoulder dystocia etc and he had to be taken to SCBU..so I feel quite upset...I was induced at 38 weeks with DD2 to avoid similiar and she was 8lb 3 so would have been about 9lb..but MW said today that they would not be concerned if baby weighed about 9lb at 38/39 weeks as long as my sugars stayed in range..but Im terrified of the same thing happening as with DS.

On a nice note..had a growth scan today and everything bang on for dates..but MW said bit early to tell at 27 weeks as the rapid weight gain is in the last 6 weeks..nice to see baby again on screen

suey2 · 03/02/2010 19:37

Lolaann dd1 will be 2.5 when dd2 is born.

Buggies: I have 2: bugaboo chameleon for everyday and mclaren xt sport for travel. Dd has never gone to sleep in the mclaren, so we have increasingly taken the bug on holiday.

suey2 · 03/02/2010 20:04

X post. MDeM we were like that with dd1! We lasted 2 nights before we put her in her own room. We could still hear her through the monitor, but turned the sensitivity down so we weren't disturbed by the snuffles, just the cries. Each to there own, as sk says. One advantage is that she has always been ace about settling herself and loves her room: never wants to get into our bed. On a handful of occasions I have taken her into the spare bed with me, but only when she has been sick and I have been worried about her.

Mollybob I hear you on the countdown! I will be finishing with patients in 5 weeks, although I will be going in until the birth to do the practice management. I planned to continue for longer, but I'm knackered and the bump is getting increasingly in the way. Sadly we will have builders in for he first 4 weeks but that's another story.

Cars: we have finally got rid of our 2 door golf and bought a skoda octavia which arrived today. It is going to be so much easier! Being able to turn off the passenger airbag through the glove compartment is going to be helpful: dd2 can travel in the front if I'm driving on my own with the 2 of them.

littleowls · 03/02/2010 20:06

Glad to hear your DD is much better Hollyoaks. Must be a relief.

The world of prams is endless, there should be a quiz before you select one to determine what your needs and requirements are. It may help first timers get an idea of which pram to go for!

Raquel - great scan picture!

Molly - glad to hear you had a nice hospital appointment.

I went to the hospital today too, BP was slightly high 130/90 so not bad really but now I have to go back every week. Checked liver function etc and that was fine also. I know they have to be careful with BP but I really feel fine! She measured my tummy too and it was measuring exactly right 27 weeks, LO kept kicking the sonicaid when the MW was listening to its heartbeat too. After me being worried about how quiet it was being, it has made up for it today!

Cupcake - It makes me giggle too when it kicks like that. I was sure that people could see it this morning in the waiting room. They probably just seen me with a daft grin on my face!

MDM - I too avidly count down the weeks until 24th March - 7 weeks! After today, I can't wait, I would rant about easily offended dinner ladies but it's not worth it!

Memory - Glad to hear your scan was good, it is always nice seeing baby again! I should have another scan at 32 weeks. I am a bit worried that by then, the scan will give away the baby's identity! Hope you can talk them round to an early induction.

I'm off to do some more relaxing - got to keep that BP down! See you all tomorrow x

cupcakefairy · 03/02/2010 20:24

Marquise where I live (in Cardiff) is exactly the same with the speed bumps and parked cars- grr! But being in city is good for public transport links at least so I won't be stranded
My parents turfed me out of their room after one night for 'breathing too loudly'!! I intend to have ours in with us for at least 6 months...and I think I'd be so obsessive I'd need to check s/he was breathing all the time anyway so wouldn't mind hearing it!

I have just finished my first knitting project- a blanket for lo, I am quite proud of it

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 04/02/2010 09:12

We put DD in her own room at about 6 weeks because we kept waking her up. She sleeps silently so didn't disturb us but every time one of us got up or coughed or turned over noisily she'd wake up. We had her across the hall with both doors open so we could still hear her instantly if she woke up but she was less bothered by us.

Our poor cat, she used to be very spoilt but was supplanted by DD and now getting kicked by the new one. Luckily DD loves her so they play together quite sweetly.

Pigley - do you have your consultant appointment this week?

Hollyoaks - glad your DD is feeling better

Littleowls - sorry to hear about your BP, I've been monitored weekly for my BP in both pregnancies. In the first one, I couldn't feel any symptoms from high BP so it was a bit of a pain. Hope it stays at a good level for you.

Racquel - great scan picture, that looks fantastic!

Memorylapse - congrats on the scan, sorry the clinic weren't too helpful. Is there anyone you can talk to you about your concerns?

memorylapse · 04/02/2010 09:52

littleowls..sorry to hear your BP is up..its not massively high though so hopefully some R&R will bring it back down

Hollyoaks..glad your DD is better..sounds like a nasty bug..Im always amazed by how quickly little ones bounce back though..it would take me 2 weeks to get over that!

Heffa..as DH pointed out..its not up to the MW as to when to induce me..so DH said not to panic as hopefully the consultant will think differently..the literature Ive got on GD says you are normally induced by 39 weeks otherwise there is a greater risk of stillbirth

my 8 year old came back from his first school residential trip yesterday..he is normally a closed book when it comes to emotion but when we arrived at school, his eyes filled up and he confessed that although he had a great time..he had been homesick..bless him

anyone else having trouble sleeping?? Im exhausted..the SPD is preventing me from sleeping as Im waking up every half an hour and having to turn over as my hips are hurting so much...Im so tired I could cry

itshappenedagain · 04/02/2010 11:24

morning all!
memorylapse- yes im having trouble sleeping, but its due to my chest being bad. although have to confess that i went aback to bed when Ds went to nursery on monday as i was soooo tired i couldnt function, put on nebuliser and propped up...very sexy!

ive been to the doctor and the midwife today, midwife has refered me to medical diseases team at the hospital, due to my asthma being so bad and not being able to get rid of this cough...doctor wants me to go for a chest xray, but has said that she will hold off untill the team at the hospital have seen me. other than that though, baby is fine, whih is all i care about...kicking away and moving about. she also advised that i should attend antenatal classes...will have to think about that one!

i have so much to do this afternoon, as i want the house sorted out again, things seem to be slipping!

sweetkitty · 04/02/2010 14:41

Just back from the midwife and feeling a bit , first DS is lying transverse and she couldn't really feel him so is sending me for a scan as I am small for dates. I'm not too bothered about this as 2 weeks ago I had the private scan and she said I was spot on for dates, I think she just cannot feel him because of the way he is lying.

Secondly she is really against me having a homebirth, keeps going on about fourth babies, malpresentations and PPHs. But I was saying to her when I go into labour I cannot move and the last time was very fast so I don't want to be in the situation where I am in labour, need to find someone to look after the DDs, need DP there to drive me to hospital etc how long will that take? MW said "oh well just phone 999 " not the same as phoning up two experienced MWs and having all the equipment (including gas and air) in your home already. With DD2 I had the first few contractions and then couldn't move, there is no way DP could have got me in a car and to the hospital. DD3 I had about 20 mins between waters and first contractions but after that I am, how to describe it gone with the pain, unable to function. So what to do?

First timers - sorry not all births are like this. I'm just a fast and furious type of girl.

She also went on about my colour, well I have always been deathly pale, so had more bloods taken. So all in all not a good visit.

Sorry I'm a bit me me me today

itshappenedagain - sorry you are feeling so rough, bugs are harder to shake off when you are pregnant aren't they?

memorylapse - if I am bad with SPD at night I take a couple of cocodamol just before going to bed which helps me sleep, I'm the opposite though could sleep 24/7. You stick to your guns re: induction if you feel that's the best thing for you.

littleowls - sorry your BP is high but it sound like they are taking no chances.

Looks like I am in the minority then keeping them with me until a year at night. I just could never cope with getting up out a warm bed to sit and feed, much easier to lift top, baby helps itself and you both fall back asleep. I have never worried about rolling on them as we sleep in the classic crook of arm, knees under the babies feet position, you always know they are there, the number of times I have woke with a startle as I thought they weren't there. Even now I jump up and need to go check on DD3 and she's 18 months. Not that I have the chance to put this one in his own room he doesn't have one!

booboomonster · 04/02/2010 14:54

Hi girlies
Just checking in on new thread. Can't believe the amount of buggy experts here? I have just had the one, though if we have to buy a double then I won't get to use my beloved britax vigour again. What's everyone got against the P&T's double? I really like it - just not the price . I like buggies with big pneumatic tyres though - that look like you can push them across a beach (in my dreams?)

Cupcake - well done for knitting blanket - I'd like to do that though haven't knitted since I was about 10 years old. I was figuring a nice cotton would be good for summer?

Memory/ itshappenedagain - my sympathy with sleeping. My sleep is hit and miss. Wake up with numb hands quite a lot and can't get comfortable. But if I'm waking up then obv I am getting sleep? even though it doesn't feel like it.

Itshappenedagain - sorry you've got chest probs - as you say, at least baby is ok, and the docs are checking you out. Hopefully it's nothing, but good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Sweetkitty - poor you with such a rubbish midwife visit. Perhaps you could see one of the other midwives and get a second opinion? (I am assuming you have a team of midwives like I do). It's your birth/ body/ baby, so you can choose where you want to have it. Is there some extra risk for fourth babies??

I actually skived the day off work yesterday though not to rest - but to finish painting DD's new bedroom (I am hoping to lure her out of her own so that we can put babe in it). I've painted the walls and put up wallpaper, and did the skirting boards and built in cupboards. It was bloody knackering but very satisfying. I felt a bit sick afterwards - not sure if it was the smell of paint or psychosomatic due to the guilt of calling in sick. We are planning to have babe in with us (in a crib) for the first 3 months but last time DD was so noisy I barely managed it.

Hobnobfanatic · 04/02/2010 14:58

Sorry to hear everyone's having a bad time. Sweetkitty - can be mw stop you having a hb? Surely she can just advise you of the risks, in her opinion, and then it's your decision?
As for the scan - look at it as another free opportunity to see the baby again. I'm paying £140 to have another look at mine next week. I'm sure everything will be fine if the last scan showed that baby was bang on for the dates.

And I'm with you for the sharing a bedroom thing. I didn't move DD1 until she was over 18 months, and, more often than not, we co-slept, as I was still breastfeeding on command until she was over 2.5 years. In fact, she still crawls into my bed most nights now - and she's 6! Good job I have a super king-size - what with all the cats that snuggle up too, my family couldn't fit into an ordinary double!

It'shappenedagain - hope you manage to kick your chest infection. Asthma and pregnancy really aren't a good combo. Hope you're taking good care of yourself.

Memorylapse - I share your sleep deprivation. I'm sooooo tired but just can't get comfy (and not because of all the creatures in my bed!), The SPD, the bump ache, the weird dreams when I do go off (don't get me started on THEM!)... I spend all night tossing and turning and watching the clock, desperate for some rest. I guess it's nature's way to prepare you for the sleeplessness to come - but you'd think Mother Nature would be kind enough to at least give us some kip now, before it's robbed of us!

littleowls · 04/02/2010 17:46

Hello all

Thanks for the kind thoughts about my BP. I never knew it could be so serious until I got pregnant, but its best to be safe.

It's good to hear how long people keep LO in their rooms with them. I suppose it depends on how well they settle and how much noise they and DH's make! Was unsure about how long to do this for so thanks for your insights.

Itshappened - hope your chest infection clears up and your asthma settles down x

Memory - I have no problems falling asleep but if I wake up then there's no getting back off. I can only lie on my right side as my left hip aches so much if I lie on it for too long.

Hobnob - so much for mother nature, she's probably saying get used to it! She doesn't always seem like a thoughtful lady.

Sweetkitty - Boo to the MW! You know your body best, she should be there to support your decisions not lay the law down.

I've had a lovely morning in the woods with my class this morning. I had all this stuff planned for them but it all went out of the window when they made their own plans of making dens and potions, it's so lovely to see.

itshappenedagain · 04/02/2010 19:14

sweetkitty- midwives can only advise... my friend was told with her first preg ( twins) that she had to have a CS, had a home birth for the others, 4 more since, as they can only advise, plus she said she felt more confortable at home and would only want to be rushing back anyway. they gave in. she was told risks, but still same risks in hospital...and any probs they would call for an ambulance anyway. plus the focus is to give mothers what they want and for them to give birth where they feel most confortable. i do hope you get your homebirth...im secretly hoping for mine still too.

i will also be having LO in with me...and plan to co-sleep, did with Ds although wasnt planned.

Los father called today to say he will be putting money into my account so i can go and buy the pram...im so excited, cant decide on which colour though.

mollybob · 04/02/2010 20:25

sweetkitty - some midwife appointments are dreadful aren't they? Have you a friendly obstetrician as your argument is pretty persuasive. There is a bigger risk of PPH but unstable lie or malpresentation would surely slow things down so you could get sorted and transferred but a fast delivery in your car or ambulance would be a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend a natural 3rd stage in a 4th delivery but other than that seems the balance is probably towards hb as long as you get someone in for DCs in case you have to move quickly - how far from home is the hospital? Just my tuppence though and not a professional opinion as haven't done obstetrics in years.

I'm with you, SK, hobnobfanatic and itshappenedagain in the baby in my room stakes - probably in my bed - barely set DD down for 6 months - she still sleeps with us at times. DH complained about the lack of space for this a few years back so we got a super-king bed. If I had to chose between sleeping with DD or him he knows he'd lose - she rarely farts and doesn't snore.

BP lowering thoughts to littleowls, sleepy thoughts to ML and asthma settling thoughts to IHA

Me - I'm ok - less braindead this week although still pretty tired and still vomiting most days despite drugs and being 24 weeks. Not likely to settle now I guess. Oh well...

Hobnobfanatic · 04/02/2010 20:51

What's PPH?

memorylapse · 04/02/2010 21:19

PPH..is post partum haemorrhage

FWIW My 4th delivery was fab..the easiest out of all of them...I appreciate that there is an increased risk but at the end of the day..SK if your previous deliveries have been uncomplicated then I dont see how they can deny you a HB

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 04/02/2010 21:28

booboo and cupcake - I'm mighty impressed by your creative activities!

Sweetkitty - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your homebirth. I have to admit that the thought of having a homebirth hadn't really crossed my mind at all up to now - I had just assumed that I would go to the hospital, but hearing how strongly some of you on here feel about it, I have not started to wonder whether it's worth considering!

Hope things turn around soon for everyone who's been feeling poorly and having a bad time.

Does anyone have fun weekend plans? DH has just headed off on a ski trip with work-mates until Sunday, so I can treat myself to a nice early night and 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep! Then tomorrow I've got a good friend coming to stay for the weekend (she was one of my bridesmaids), so we can have a lovely girly time. Saturday we're hitting the shops, and I'm looking forward to a day of normal, (i.e. not baby-related) shopping (although I guess I'm limited to maternity wear, shoes, handbags and accessories!).
