Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wibblela · 09/12/2009 09:51

ooo, ooo, I'm the second on here

Think I felt the baby move yesterday - guts have been doing fluttering thing for years so didn't count any fluttering, but think I felt definite kicks yesterday - well they were more like thuds!!! This is my first and I'm only 17+6 today! I was tolld it would be later because of being obese in the first place

Hobnobfanatic · 09/12/2009 10:07

I had the first Celvapan jab yesterday - and came home to hear that a local mum lost her baby after having the jab. Everyone is blaming the SF vaccine, though I guess it could have been something else. She went into labour a week after having it, very premature, and the baby didn't survive

I'm trying to remain circumspect - it could have been caused by a number of things, I guess - but deep-down I'm panicking like mad.

AnAngelWithin · 09/12/2009 10:10

ooh wibblela thats great news!

hobnob, i hope you are ok. Please try not to worry. nobody knows how much is coincidence, but if it was me I would certainly be wondering!

OP posts:
LuckyC · 09/12/2009 10:16

Thanks for the new thread AnAngelWithin. Hobnob, that's shocking news. It's SO unfair that we have been forced to make this horrible decision but you have done the best you can for your baby given all the circs and information, inc fighting for Celvapan. It has to be highly unlikely that you will have any ill-effects. Try not to worry too much.

I have not felt a single movement since I was last on here boasting about the little tiny miniature toy lorry being rolled around in my uterus. Not a thing. Probably because I have been too busy to concentrate properly.

Tinylion 'tubby'???? What a bloody cheek. Kick him in the shins. And memory how are we going to stop the bump-touchers? I am considering charging a fiver a go. Will donate it to charity.

I am off to Africa tomorrow, back just before New Year, so this will be last post for a while. sentimental Thanks for all your support and help over the last few months - you have all been invaluable.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all, and look after yourselves.

sweetkitty · 09/12/2009 10:35

Oh Happy New thread this one will take us all to half way and beyond and scans too

Hobnob - that is terrible but I think again coincidence. It's like when that young mum to be died of SF everyone was going on about getting the vaccine now it's oh don't get the vaccine. No wonder we are so worried about everything.

I am not getting the DDs vaccinated though, they don't have asthma or any other health worries, also been fit and healthy and for one thing it really hurts.

Tree up here as well, it's a huge fake one though, I have cats and kids and a real one wouldn't mix. I'm quite anal about it and it's all white and tasteful decorated, well it was until DD1 came home from Rainbows with a huge multicoloured angel and plonked it right in the middle, oh well.

I felt a few little movements last night in bed so that makes me feel a wee bit better.

LuckyC - wow Africa! Have a lovely Christmas and look forward to your updates when you get back.

Right have devoured crumpets so am going to do a bit of housewirk before nursery pick up.

lizzie9442 · 09/12/2009 10:43

Morning everyone,

Sorry not been writting much recently just so busy. I'm moving house on Friday and am so excited. I didnt realise how much stuff we had till I sorted through and started packing it all. I have my 20 week scan on the 21st of December when I will actually be 21 weeks so really looking forward to that to. I can't wait to find out if i'm having a boy or girl. How many people do you think I'm allowed to take into the scan with me? My husband and mother in law are coming which is fine but now my husbands sister wants to come and he said yes. Thats means that I will have 3 people with me. Do you think thats ok?

xxxx

itshappenedagain · 09/12/2009 11:11

morning all! lots of space for us all to grow in this nice new thread!

Lizzie- they usually just allow husband/ partner and your own children. but will depand on Sonographer and hospital policy, i would ring and ask, save offending MIL and SIL. are you moving far.

How many of you are thinking of finding out, if you can what sex the baby is?
i am thinking of pros and cons for both and have no preference either way, yet it has been pointed out to me that it will be easier for Ds to understand if he knows what is coming, but is that necessarly true, esp as they got it wrong with DS in the first instance.

lucky C have fun on your trip!
anyway im off to go and get Ds into his uniformso i can continue witht eh big clean this afternoon!

LittleOneMum · 09/12/2009 11:27

hobnob how scary - but it's pretty much sure to be unrelated ... Now I'm nervous about Friday too

Carikube · 09/12/2009 11:48

Lizzie at my hospital they say one adult only going in for the scan (apart from the mother of course!) so I would echo the suggestion to ring and find out. I'm quite pleased about it as our next scan is 30 Dec when I think both my parents and MIL will still be staying and I know MIL would have tried to come along given half a chance so at least I've got a ready-made excuse

memorylapse · 09/12/2009 12:14

Lizzie..my hospital have a policy of only allowing one other adult in with you..so I would ring and check.
Good luck with the house move..I will be following suit after christmas

Hobnob..please try not to worry..its more than likely coincidence..I agree that we have all been put in a horrible no win situation though.
Im not having the jab..but lets face it..could you all cope with me wiorrying about it afterwards?? you know what Im like!
seriously though..Im not having it because I had a terible reaction to the normal flu jab once..I dont fancy that when Im pregnant.
Luckyc..enjoy your trip

we have been christmas shopping this morning..now Im knackered..Im only 19+1 but already see to waddle..just grabbing a bit of lunch before dashing off to watch dd in her school play

AnAngelWithin · 09/12/2009 12:17

lizzie ours has a one other person policy to, i would ring and check. Hope the move goes ok!

LuckyC...you are exactly that!! Have a fab time!!

I am having awful nightmares at the moment. About going for my 20 week scan and the baby having no heartbeat. Last night was the worst, but probably not helped by the fact I saw a little girls get knocked down by a car yesterday afternoon

OP posts:
HeffaMerryChristmas · 09/12/2009 13:09

Tinylion - I'd have thumped someone who used the word tubby!

Angel - thanks for starting a new thread. Was the little girl yesterday afternoon OK? What a horrible thing to see You must be in a bit of shock.

Hobnobfanatic - please try not to worry. That's a very sad story but it's probably coincidence. We're all in a really difficult boat having to make this decision, but you can only make the best decision you can based on the information that's available. I hate that if anything had gone wrong either way I'd feel so guilty.

LuckyC - wow! I hope you have an amazing holiday, lucky thing!

Lizzie - our hospital says the mother plus one, but you can always ask. There are often lots more people in the waiting room so they could always do that?

Wibbela - yay for feeling baby move!

Itshappenedagain - we'll find out the sex again. I'm not as fussed, but DH loves finding out. He says it makes him feel much more connected with the baby and I think that can only be a good thing

Mummymunchkins · 09/12/2009 13:37

Hi all I have just joined mumsnet. I am due 13th May. This is my third baby. DS1 is 3 and DS2 is 18 months.

Hobnob I had pandemrix swine flu jab in Novemeber as celvapan was not available, was such a hard decision but all was fine after and have had scan since(as at 16 weeks they couldn't find babies heartbeat on doppler) and baby fine too (that was scary waiting for scan). I read lots of horror stories from USA about miscarriages following jabs and nearly cancelled my appointment but most of cases were before 12 weeks pregnant and I read some expert saying that there will always be some miscarriages following the jab but not necessarily caused by it, but it was a scary time after having it.

I am having my 20 week scan on 4th Jan as it is due on 24th but we are on holiday. Lizzie I am also exceited to find out if I am having a girl or a boy. I don't mind which really although with 2 boys already would love a girl. This pregnancy has felt a bit different so far but I don't know if that means anything!!

HeffaMerryChristmas · 09/12/2009 13:45

Hiya Mummymunchkins, welcome to Mumsnet Glad your pregnancy is going well and you haven't had a problem with the jab.

Mummymunchkins · 09/12/2009 14:50

Thanks HeffaMerryChristmas. Have just started feeling a bit less sick

RacquelWelsh · 09/12/2009 15:22

HeffaMerryChristmas Thanks for the agreement re mince pies.. had to re-stock today

Thanks Sweetkitty for the welcome

Mummymunchkins I have the same scan date as you.

Anangelwithin I've been having the weirdest dreams and nightmares too since being pregnant. They are sometimes very vivid (and other times nutty... I was having a go at Ed Milliband in one dream.. what is THAT all about?!)

itshappenedagain We're going to find out the sex of our baby. I love knitting (!) but don't like lemon or beige so feel unable to get started....

AnAngelWithin · 09/12/2009 16:17

yes heffa i think she was ok. she was screaming a lot which i thought was a good thing really and she got up. There was no blood or anything, but its things like head injuries you worry about I didn't see her at school today or her dad to ask how she is, so i do hope she is ok.

Mummymunchkins welcome! I will add you to the list if you like?

RacquelWelsh good luck with your scan.

RaquelWelsh and Itshappenedagain We will find out the sex too I thought maybe this time it would be nice to have a surprise, but its good to be prepared too. Of course there is never a 100% guarantee they get it right! DS1 wants another boy so it may be good to be able to confirm or prewarn him its a girl.

RaquelWelsh and AnAngelWithin I have had some very vivid dreams too, especially early on in my pregnancy even just before I knew I was pregnant! They seem to be getting less frequent now.

Mummymunchkins · 09/12/2009 16:37

Thanks AnAngelWithin yes please add me to the list. I take it the numbers shown after the nicknames on your list are age and age of children?

Sweetpeasmum · 09/12/2009 16:37

Have just had my Consultant's appointment and I have gone for a VBAC. I can always go and see them again if I change my mind. BRB - I had a GA last time too. The aftermath is pretty rough isn't it? I felt as though I had been in a car crash rather than having gone through the most natural and beautiful experience of my life! The labour was OK and I got to 10cms within about 8 hours of the first grumbles. It was only at this point that they discovered DS was breach and the drama duly began. I have warned them that I will become paranoid nearer the time and have been promised a scan if I'm worried. I find it funny when they try and reassure me that the midwife will be confident of the position - so were the last lot at 38 weeks!

I'm intrigued by the bump strokers. I don't think that people are as touchy feely in my organisation, thank goodness.

LolaAnn · 09/12/2009 17:20

Hi guys haven't posted in a while sorry.. hope everyone is well and happy

I woke up this morning to a bump on my left hand side and pretty sure its because bubba was camping out there very exciting.

No one has stroked my bump yet haha. I cant believe he called you tubby.. that is just insane... I would have kicked him in the nads so hard.

MummyMunchkins - the numbers are age and how many kids we have so like mine is 22, #1 because I'm 22 and this is my first bubba.

mollybob · 09/12/2009 18:05

hi all - nice new home

haven't been here so much as sooo tired (still - where has my bloom gone???)

wibblela as another obese Mummy I'm having movements at the expected time which is nice but weird (can't get my head around the idea of being sick and having movements - will I ever stop vomiting)

good luck with the moves lizzie and ML LuckyC have a fab time

sweetpeasmum I'm sure this birth will be very different - hope the docs/midwives keep communicating with you

re SF vaccine - so many pg women have now had it that coincidence will mean that mc's and prem labour bound to coincide with vaccinations at times but seems all coincidence from the evidence to date.

no xmas tree up yet but DH has told DD it will be tonight - he is a world class procrastinator but he is a world class nagger so it's a case of immovable object and irresistable force - expect she'll win through by the weekend

at work today a drug rep was in pushing this special milk for colic/cows milk allergy etc etc - highlighting all the times when it could be prescribed and how great it is because it's so like breast milk - WTF can't we just provide information and proper support to improve breastfeeding rates? N Ireland such a backwater

Normal trousers are getting too tight - no one would really notice yet as wads of fat hiding bump but think maternity trousers might get their first outing tomorrow

sweetkitty · 09/12/2009 19:24

mollybob - Scotland was a bit like that re breastfeeding but is gradually getting better, thing is the rep was talking rubbish, it's not like breastmilk it's an adequate substitute but nowhere near like it. Am with you with the normal trousers getting tight, I feel it's too early for proper maternity ones though, they will feel huge.

No bump touching here either, most people are like "four are you mad?" etc and the "are you trying for a boy then?"

As we are paying for our 20 week scan we will find out the sex too, I like knowing and only having one set of names to argue over, I'm the worlds most impatient person as well.

Den26 · 09/12/2009 21:20

Evening all, hope alls well.

Welcome Mummymunchkin!

I had my 16 week midwife appointment today all went well she listened in and heard baby moving around!

I'm now feling quite angry as i'm not getting 20 week scan She said that they have only started giving it as routine from this month and i don't qualify - surely if i'm not yet 20 weeks then i do qualify???

I also thought that given my history (partial molar pregnancy in july) that they would want to scan me to keep an eye. MW says that she can't do anything, the hospital would hav said at my last scan if i was getting it, which they didn't

Don't really want to get a private scan as it means travelling 2-3 hours for it and not sure who to contact at the hospital to question/argue this, aargh!!!

Re bump-touching - i've had afew already and also been called 'fatty' already! jokingly, but still!!!

Mollymob - i'm onto leggings and long jumpers - nice and comfy and can wear to work!

schipo · 09/12/2009 21:38

Hey yes, lovely new thread. Funny how it makes so much difference.

Welcome to the new people too - MummyMunchkins, RacquelWelsh and anyone else.

I have a tip for anyone else alarmed at sudden weight gain though: dandelion and nettle tea!

My yoga teacher recommended dandelion to a very pregnant girl with swollen legs last week and in the hope that at least some of the weight I've amassed recently is just retained water, I thought I'd give it a go. She also mentioned nettle tea though so I've been having both. Something seems to be helping anyway. At least i'm not gaining a pound every other day like I was last week even while I ate normally. I think i've even lost a couple of pounds in fact. Going to keep it up for a while to see if helps clear the skin too.

No one has touched or mentioned my bump yet thank god - not to me at least. DH has plenty to say about it though - in fact he's been shouting at it - as if the baby has poor hearing in there

I'm quite jealous of Suey and LuckyC off to feel the sun on their backs over xmas. I've got a few days up in Teesdale to look forward to - no sun, but at least nice to see family and some hills.

Also jealous of BRB leaving work so soon. I think I'm going to have to work till about the day before baby arrives. Not sure yet how realistic that plan is though, of course.

Anyway, good night all - nice to hear of more heart beats and movements.
