Already posted this in pregnancy forum, but thought there might be more ladies here at my stage.

Basically is anyone still feeling rough at 17 weeks?? or similar time? Sorry for moaning and groaning in advance...

I've had bad ms (not hyperemesis thankgod) and although I've stopped mostly being sick, I just felt really tired, nauseous, sluggish, can't be bothered, wanting to lie down and sleep.

It's been going on since 7 weeks!! Where's this second trimester energy boost then?

Just had one of those days. Sick this morning, then felt nauseous all day and managed to get a sleep this pm (gorgeous DH took toddler away so I could get my head down). Still feel tired and naff.

ONLY way I can stop feeling sick is to eat...and eat....and eat. I'm 5 foot and now I swear to god I'm a size 16/18. Imagine a round ball... I feel so fat. And I feel crap. And I really want the fog to lift so I can start to feel better and so my toddler can get a bit more attention and I will stop moaning...

PLEASE can I NOT be one of those poor ladies who suffer sickness all the way through.

Do you think I feel so crap because I've put on so much weight? Would I feel better if I was one of those fit, athletic, pilates type of pregnant women?!? (General beating myself up now cos of huge weight increase)

Need support/online cup of tea/general patting on back...

Thank you!!

memorylapse · 05/12/2009 20:19

tinylion...I really feel for you..Im nearly 19 weeks and have had hyperemesis and am now still feeling nauseas..coupled with gestational diabetes Im still feeling pretty crap...

its got nothing to do with how fit you have been etc..its all down to good ole hormones Im afraid

try to nibble on healthier snacks like fruit etc..Im really struggling because I only feel better if I eat but having gestational diabetes means I have to be careful what I nibble on..

have you chatted to your gp or midwife about how poorly you feel?

mollybob · 05/12/2009 20:44

hi tinylion - i'm 16 weeks and the same as you

had a few slightly better days this week but have pretty much been vomiting since 6 weeks. Utterly shattered and grumpy with it. was at work xmas do last night for very posh meal and vomited it all up again afterwards. I'm already a heifer and am so far 8 lbs less than I was before my BFP. At dinner last night was sitting next to a tall slim healthy colleague who had hyperemesis all through her recent pregnancy - and really unless you've been there you can't understand how exhausting it is and how much you want to throttle anyone who mentions bloody ginger biscuits.

Hyperemesis is one of those luck of the draw things so nothing to do with size or fitness. I'm no longer expecting an energy boost - have given up on house tidying and plan to sit in bed and knit when I'm not at work. If I do get a few good days then I'll be pleasantly surprised but expecting to feel better and then not has felt to be like an extra big slap in the face. Low expectations that's my motto now. Hope you have a good evening

suey2 · 05/12/2009 20:48

oh tinylion! I am with you: last time the nausea only went at 18 weeks and it looks like this one will be the same. It is so much more difficult with a toddler too.

MoggMum · 05/12/2009 21:15

tinylion I'm one of those athletic/pilates type of pregnant women (well I was until 4 months ago!) but still feeling crap at 17 weeks too. Have been eating loads to keep the nausea at bay since week 6. Good news is that I haven't been sick for a whole week although still waiting for the 2nd trimester 'glow' and energy burst!

Hope you feel better soon - give yourself a break & have an online cup of tea & pat on the back from me

memorylapse · 05/12/2009 21:38

Im not feeling to clever..this morning had a tummy upset and feel fluey..now my temperature has shot up and I feel dreadful

Ive worried myself to death that its the burger I got from mcdonalds and Ive got listeria..DH says Im being stupid and that I havent got listeria..but Im worried that what it is..Ive checked the symptoms on google and they are the same...Im wondering If I should go to hospital

Hollyoaks · 05/12/2009 21:40

Hi all, sorry no time to catch up properly.

Congratulations Suey, glad all is well and congrats on a girl.

Well, suddenly feeling great (apart from retching/vomiting every morning when brushing teeth) so xmas decorations went up yesterday. School inspection went well with loads of constructive feedback, not as awful as I imagined but still very stressful.

Hope everyone is well.

Sophie2008 · 05/12/2009 21:54

Memorylapse if you are worried i think you should go to the hospital. At least it will put your mind at rest, and not have you worrying all night.

mollybob · 05/12/2009 21:56

ML - listeria not common and more likely from milk/eggs than burgers unless undercooked and McD usually overcook if anything

all your symptoms could be loads of other things - have you taken paracetamol - the best drug ever?

so many viral things around at the moment and the older kids will be bringing home all sorts from school and generously handing them around

if you want to get proper advice then this is sort of stuff OOH GPs deal with all the time and usually a less unpleasant experience than A+E on a Saturday night - feel better soon

Ps Suey - delighted for you x

memorylapse · 05/12/2009 21:58

just looked on google..they will have to do a blood test so they probably wont do it at this time of night..am beside myself with worry..I wish I hadnt had the stupid chicken burger

Hollyoaks · 05/12/2009 22:02

ML - sorry x-posted before. I would really doubt you've got food poisoning from macD's. Get checked at the ooh's but try not to worry.

memorylapse · 05/12/2009 22:05

ive worried myself that its listeria from the salad..I picked it out of the burger but god knows how long it had been sat on top of it..

Hollyoaks · 05/12/2009 22:37

ML - I used to work in McDs and the salad has always looked a bit sorry for itself but perfectly safe. It shouldn't have been there too long, I think everything has to be thrown out if not sold within approx 10-15 mins of making.

Please try not to panic, you've probably got a viral infection and it'll pass in a few days, but seek help if you think you need it.

memorylapse · 05/12/2009 22:47

thanks Hollyoaks..thats reassuring....daft thing is that If I hadnt eaten that burger I wouldnt have thought anything of it and just assumed I had a viral infection..
DD2 has been poorly with a temp, but she has a cough so I dont think I have what she has

sweetkitty · 05/12/2009 22:47

memoeylapse - probably not Listeria from the lettuce, it's very rare and you need quite a lot to make you ill and IME I have never found it in infective doses anywhere and believe me I have tested everything for Listeria, you will not get it from pasteurised milk or eggs (that's Salmonella but most of the UK laying flock is vaccinated these days) more likely just to be a virus. Stop googling it's bad for you

Suey - that is fantastic news, and congrats on a DD, two girls is fab

Pregnancy brain - oh I have it bad don't know my right from my left and cannot count for toffee

sorry and sympathies to anyone still feeling rough, sickness all gone here but heartburn and SPD replaced it

Too tired to type anymore night all x

memorylapse · 05/12/2009 23:01

thank you SK.I forget that you are a microbiologist..thank you for the reassurance..I know its rare..in all the time I was nursing I never came into contact with a patient being treated for listeria infection..but me being me..just assume Ill be the one..I phoned NHS direct but of course they just said go to casualty

HeffaMerryChristmas · 06/12/2009 09:20

Tinylion - sorry you're still feeling rubbish I felt awful up until about 15/16 weeks last time so it doesn't always go away early on.

Memorylapse - sorry you had a bit of a scare, hope you feel better now.

Hollyoaks - glad your school inspection is over and wasn't too bad. Do you get a chance to relax a bit now or not until the end of term?

Carikube · 06/12/2009 09:27

Memorylapse hope you feel better this morning.

I felt pretty rubbish yesterday but think it was mostly self-inflicted as I didn't really eat properly and certainly didn't have enough fluids. I haven't put any weight on yet and I really need to make sure that I eat better than I have been doing.

DD is falling asleep on the floor at the moment so I'd better put her down for a nap. The poor thing was screaming this morning in pain - I think it was constipation as she has been a lot happier since having had a dirty nappy but it seems to have taken it out of her...

tinylion · 06/12/2009 09:53

Thank you for all your messages. Do you know I feel a bit better today - haven't been sick this morning, still tired but not as exhausted. I wonder why I get a few good days and then a couple of horrid ones?

Memorylapse - what did you do? Did you go to GPs? Hope you feeling better....

AnAngelWithin · 06/12/2009 10:16

morning all.

ML hope you are feeling better today. I had that the other week, it was just a bug.

tinylion, still take it easy and just enjoy feeling a bit more human!

Carikube I haven't put any weight on yet wither. Hope your dd is ok bless her.

Hollyoaks, glad you are feeling a little better now.

Hopefully we are all starting to get over the crappy stage??

Decorations still not up here yet. I want to give the house a thorough clean before they all go up. I cleaned the oven yesterday and tidied out the understairs cupboard. Can actually walk round in there now whereas before you couldn't even set foot in it!lol DH working late again tonight but thankfully has tomorrow and tuesday off (all being well!!) so he said he will help me get stuff done then.

I feel a bit more human now, nowhere near as sick, but I do still get tired, and I suffer the next day when I have been busy! No choice but to plod on though, as the next 2 weeks are going to be absolute mayhem with 4 plays to attend and prepare for (2 late evening 7pm starts and god knows what time ends!), judo competition to travel to with ds1, kids general social lives and parties to sort, last of the shopping and wrapping and some cards to make. Gosh, just typing thats making me feel all weak at the knees!!!

I want to try and defrost the freezer today but whether I will manage it or not is another matter altogether! The girls have stripped their beds for me so I have got to wash them and put clean ones on. Not sure how I am going to manage bunk beds with a bump!!

Hollyoaks · 06/12/2009 10:56

ML - hope your feeling better this morning, good advice from SK - stop googling!!!! Thats probably more dangerous for your health than McDs.

Heffa - no rest for the wicked just yet. I have two sixth form classes completing coursework, another two with their first exam first week back in January and a course still to finish, year 11 reports to write and mock exams to mark and year 10 and 11 coursework assignments to complete, and thats all before I think about actually teaching them. I think I've done the same as Anangelwithin and exhausted myself just writing it all down.

Angel - you sound very busy, are you nesting already or just keen to get the house sorted before xmas? I must admit since ms has mostly left and my energy levels have risen I'm trying to keep the house tidy. Looking forward to that nesting stage though because the oven, fridge and kitchen cupboards will get a really good deep clean.

tinylion - glad your feeling better.

AnAngelWithin · 06/12/2009 11:31

Hollyoaks I am a bit of a cleaning freak anyway, so feeling so rotten and unable to do much for a few weeks has really got to me, so I am actually enjoying feeling like I am doing something constructive!! May leave the freezer for today as it's not as bad as i thought! Will still need doing before christmas though.

memorylapse · 06/12/2009 11:53

thanks everyone..I didnt go to hospital because tbh..I felt too poorly to!

still feel rotten today..achey and headachey..eyes feel heavy, but temp seemed normal..Im going to phone the MW maybe later or tomorrow..but from what I read on google..before I stopped googling..I should have felt poorlier..so hoping thats a good sign.
have to work later and dont really feel well enough
