Tamuna..the best thing to do is ring your hospital and ask

sweetkitty · 26/10/2009 17:39

Agree with memorylapse, our health authority is terrible, I would get one scan at 13 weeks, NO second anomoly scan, NO nuchal fold scan and there are signs everywhere in maternity to not even think about asking them about the sex! Hence we are having a private 20 week scan.

Ate all my dinner tonight but feeling terrible now still DP home in about 20 mins handover time

memorylapse · 26/10/2009 17:54

I dont think I can stand a full week of the youngest DC'S..they have done nothing but fight all day..so far DD(5) has kicked and bitten DS(8) and has jumped on my stomach about 3 times coupled with about 50 temper tantrums...DH will not be home until 8 and all I can say is Im going on strike when he gets home..

Sassles · 26/10/2009 17:57

There seems to be massive differences in regions. Even in Scotland there are huge differences. My sister was in Glasgow and got one 12 week scan only and no Nuchal screening. I am in Renfrewshire (right next door) and I get two scans and CUBS screening.

They did do a nuchal scan at my 12 week scan and I am getting blood tests for it and other stuff on Wed. Seems crazy the difference when we all pay the same NHS tax.

Sweetpeasmum · 26/10/2009 18:02

Hi everyone, finally caught up with the thread! Not much to report here as I still feel tired all the time. I haven't been sick (yet) but do have waves of nausea. I had my booking in appointment last week, all pretty routine apart from my vein collapsing when the mw tried to take blood! That was a little disturbing but apparently nothing to worry about!?!

Can someone please add me to the list as I find cutting and pasting challenging on my iPhone.

22 May - Sweetpeasmum, 38, #2

Glad to hear you're OK FS, the 303 can be a pretty fast road.

memorylapse · 26/10/2009 18:34

ah..peace..DC'S relegated to upstairs to continue killing each other

Sweetpea..dont worry about your veins collapsing..it seems to be a common occurence in early pregnancy..hormones again no doubt

tamuna what tests you get on NHS where seems completely different everywhere. I was told to expect a nuchal scan and blood test combined with the dating scan, and that if necessary I'd get further tests on the same day. I also have dates for 16 and 20 week scans already. There are lots of hospitals here in London though and you can choose which one you want (and even switch if you're not happy). I didn't chose the nearest but the one I'd heard the best things about (eg. from antenatal yoga teacher).

You're in Manchester right and you already had a booking appointment that was rubbish? Is that right? If there's no other hospital you can switch to then you can hope the midwife was just having a bad day I suppose, but you should definitely be on the phone to them for as long as it takes to find someone who can tell you what to expect at that particular hospital - I guess your gp might be able to give you local info too.. hth

Hi, just popping in from the due June 2010 thread, which is waaay busier than this one for some reason....

My due date is somewhere around 30th May and this will be DC3.

Nice to see James here, we were on the same threads for our August 2007 babies (although mine turned out to be July 2007 in the end)

lizzie9442 · 26/10/2009 19:32

tamuna - I had my 12 week scan done last monday. it was nhs and I also had the nuchual screening at the same time and always have had for all my pregnancies. My hospital is in frimley surrey. I think all areas must be different so your probably best to phone the hospital to ask. Although I did get a leaflet to sign my consent for the screening when I got my scan letter in the post. Did it say anything about it in your letter?

hi I haven't been here since the original thread too, been feeling pretty rough, also have prenatal depression and been feeling pretty sick and very tired too.

However on the upside after worrying if everything was ok, hopefully it is, I heard the babys heartbeat at my booking in appointment last tuesday and have my 12 wk scan on thurs.

so my stats are

11 may- sheepgomeep, 32,#4

memorylapse · 26/10/2009 21:39

welcome back sheepgomeep..

brightredballoon · 26/10/2009 21:50

Sassles Are you under the RA Hospital? I am going there this time round. Totally agree about the difference in care between health boards, I was under Wishaw with my first two (same as SK) and like SK said above you only get a 12wk scan.

Dorothea and 30ish I am trying to decide between a VBAC and an elective, I have some days where I am really feeling confident that a VBAC is totally right for me/family and then days when I just think an elective would be better for a number of reasons (emotionally for me, timing/planning for care for DC etc).

Great idea for a new list, I had a nosey at the Nov09 antenatal thread and reminded me how long the due list usually is, ours is soooo huge in comparison

sweetkitty · 26/10/2009 22:02

brightred - it's a hard one isn't it, I'm a bit different, chances are I will have a fast VB but it's the not knowing when labour is going to be that worries me a lot. There is a theory that your body won't allow you to go into labour until it is happy that you are safe and your other DC are cared for, I seem to have babies at 4am in the morning for some reason (4.22am, 4am and 4.25am), I can see why you would opt for a ECS, also do you go for a VBAC and end up with a CS anyway, happened to 2 friends of mine

sheepgomeep - welcome back sorry you have been suffering, theres quite a few of us on here please don't feel you will bring the thread down or anything, good news about your scan too

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 26/10/2009 23:06

Washy, yay! I didn't even know you were pregnant again! Lovely to see you here. There's someone else from that thread who's pregnant but I only know her real name (from facebook) can't remember her mn screen name... she worked in a zoo?

Angel, oops sorry got you mixed up with Lizzie, sorry, I've had a tiring day.

Forces, sorry to hear about your crash, must have been terrifying!! Glad you're okay.

Sassles, I'm overweight too and I know what you mean about the initial scans hurting, I felt quite sore afterward last time. I'm anticipating it'll probably hurt again this time, but it's worth it to see the baby!

Kaystar · 27/10/2009 04:44

Hello all, I've also been lying low for a while too - too many things going on at work (including constantly now being monitored by the colleague who had demanded to know if I was pregnant - some people... )

Been for my 12-week scan and it was just amazing to see the little one - especially as I had convinced myself that there would be nothing there (always do this and prepare for the worst - terrible habit...)

Well, lovely to have a new thread and glad to be joining back in!

lizzie9442 · 27/10/2009 06:47

Washersaurus - welcome to the thread. The reason this thread doesn't seem busy is because a new list has just started on this thread so everyone could adjust their dates. If you look back at our last one you will see there is actually quite alot of us.

I've had yet another horrible night. My eldest is really ill so pretty much been up all night. Then my other kids woke at 5 just as I thought i would get a couple of hours but no such luck. They are on half term this week to which means no rest for me. All well will just have to get on with it and hope for a better night tonight.

I'm 13+1 today and loving the fact that I'm in the second trimester, feels like I'm out of the danger zone although can never be 100% sure but fingers crossed. My 20 week scan is on the 21st of Decemeber so will be 21 weeks by then. I still can't decide if I want to know the sex of the baby. I know it would be easier knowing because of the practicality of getting everything ready but at the same time would love the surprise. Is everyone else going to find out if they can? xx

30ish · 27/10/2009 07:15

Brightredballoon, Sweetkitty and Dorothea - thank you, I feel better knowing others are already worried too! My major concern is going through labour all over again only to have another emcs! I suppose no one can predict these things! I am also assuming I have choice or will the consultant make the decision for me?

My husband was such a wet lettuce when I was in labour last time - constantly updating me as to how many days he'd gone without sleep If i'd had the use of my legs, I think I might have done him some harm Perhaps an elc might be the best after all - we could end up divorced otherwise!

Hollyoaks · 27/10/2009 08:17

Hi all

I had a vb last time but ds had a emcs and was planning on an elcs this time round. She was scared her scar would be very painful during contractions but when she actually went into labour she said it felt no different to her first vb. Mind she was delivering a tiny baby and I'm not sure whether the stress on her uterus would have been reduced but it is possible and recovery is much easier, so I've been told. You've all got plenty of time to think about it.

Is anyone else feeling really uncomfortable yet? I can't lie on my back as there's too much pressure and its gets uncomfortable on my side really quickly. Just feels like a heavy lump in there. I feel like I need my maternity pillow already.

DorotheaPlentighoul · 27/10/2009 08:27

30ish, I think it really depends on the consultant and some have different attitudes to others. When do you get to discuss it with the consultant? For me apparently it's not until quite late on, 32 weeks or so, but I was told to talk everything through at length with our midwife over the intervening months so that when the time comes to discuss with the consultant I'll have done some serious thinking.

I just don't know what to expect. Our hosp has a midwife-led unit and they are lovely; I reckon that they will want to really encourage me to go for a vbac. And I wish I felt confident about that, I really do, but like you I keep envisioning another long labour, getting to almost 9cm with no pain relief and ages without sleep, then surgery anyway! gah! Last time the surgery was the easy bit, a huge relief and scar healed fine; but the sheer exhaustion of all that went before really marred my first crucial day or so with DS. Plus his wee head was so squished from being stuck for ages, hammering against the cervix - 'twas a shame.

Sorry, rambling. Must go get ready for work. I think I am getting my revised redundancy offer today -- then our union has to vote on whether to accept it.

Have a lovely day, all Oh and welcome back to others who have missed thread 2 like me. I still haven't actually caught up

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 27/10/2009 08:50

Tamuna - down here, our 12 week scan includes the nuchal test as well so some NHS places will do it - best to call and check

Viv - great news about your dress, you must be soooo excited!

ForcesSweetheart - so sorry to hear about your crash, that must have been terrifying. Glad you're OK

Re labour - I'm worried as well, my labour last time went OK (induced, strapped to a bed but lovely midwife and I was able to deliver naturally but with 3rd degree tear) but the post-natal care was absolutely shocking. I'm looking forward to discussing it with my consultant at 12 weeks and seeing what the options are. No scan till the 9th November for me, although I'm 11+4 I think

The job went really well I'm a librarian and it's a relief post filling in sick leave/holidays in the local public library. It fits in quite well with being a SAHM but lets me keep my hand in! I've got two more shifts this week so that'll be good.
