Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
madmissy · 21/11/2009 15:23

annie sounds like when i had dd1 i was induced with dd2 so things looking good

charlie ooh how exciting!

with regards to SF jab i have no idea what to do!

Mybox · 21/11/2009 15:29

AnnieBP - Sounds like the real thing! Hope you're doing fine. Bh don't ususally come with backache and aren't regular.

Scorps · 21/11/2009 16:38

Re vaccine, i have been thinking in pros and cons.

Pros:

Immunity for Maisie and me - if others get ill (DH, ds1, ds2, dd) at least i am able to loook after them and no worry at all of tiny dd2 getting it.

Guarantee of not getting SF, therefore NO risk to baby from SF, and NO risk to me.

Cons:

Fairly new vaccine. There appear to be concerns re Pandemrix and mercury; but the Anti D injection is made in the same way and there are no adverse affects to babies from that!

I think my pro reasoning is enough to make me have it, tbh. dd1 is 19 months and she will be offered it too, which im sure i will take up on. Couldn't bear her being in hospital or anything

Moosy · 21/11/2009 16:47

That's pretty much my reasoning too Scorps, and having heard how ill the builder's son was (he's nearly 12) made me think how awful it could be for DDs 1 and 2 with them being only 4 and 2.9. Makes me a bit more set on BFing DD3 too!

Scorps · 21/11/2009 16:51

people i know who have had it, have had it 'mildly', but none of them have been pregnant or young. I would hate it if i refused vaccine and then Maisie got very ill . My MW seemed to think it was a good idea, and said baby gets immunity from me from SF in utero and from BF.

madmissy · 21/11/2009 18:21

scorps thats interesting about the anti-d! i have that too and i give it no thought at all! so are they similar mixes etc?

SPD is agony today i can barely move without yelping will be asking for a induction again i think when i was at consultant last she said see how i go and either see her at 38 weeks or midwife gutted

Claire236 · 21/11/2009 18:25

Good luck annie & charlie. Can't tell you how jealous I am - 8 days of contractions & counting.

I've refused SF vaccine as the risks from vaccine seem greater than those of SF. 6 of ds1 class are off school with possible SF but he's fine so far. It's difficult to know what to do for the best when half these cases probably aren't SF at all.

GoldenSnitch · 21/11/2009 18:26

Ooh Charleymouse - how exciting!!

We're off to Center Parcs on Monday - wonder if I'll be in labour by Tuesday morning? I doubt it.

Would fit perfectly with my Mum's random theory that this baby will be early cause my brother was (he was due at christmas too) Although, it is his birthday on Thursday!

No SF vaccine here. It's just too new and untested for me to be comfortable with it.

madmissy · 21/11/2009 18:27

how you feeling claire? still got the shite stop and start labour?

GoldenSnitch · 21/11/2009 18:29

Good luck to Annie too. Hope it gets going soon

madmissy · 21/11/2009 18:31

oooh snitch have lovely time!! how far gone are you now?

GoldenSnitch · 21/11/2009 18:40

35 weeks. DS was late, induced in fact at 6 days over, so I'm not expecting a early arival other than for the ELCS. Still got a month left

Been to see MIL today, she was amazed that I hadn't packed a hospital bag yet and had no intention of doing so till after CP. DH moaned that there wouldn't be enough room to take one anyway!

It's all in 1 drawer at home. DH can cope with fetching me some stuff if it turns out I need it.

madmissy - I feel awful since you asked. You'll probably regret asking, I feel like everyone must be fed up with me. Had been having contractions off & on since last Friday but since hospital appt on Weds I've been in constant pain & had what appeared to be a second show yesterday. Is that even possible. I'm now convinced baby is never coming out & told dh he could not only go out tonight but drink as much as he likes as baby is obviously not shifting. At this point I'm so tired I can't see how it would be physically possible for me to get baby out if he did decide he was ready. So much for not boring anyone senseless whining about how crap I feel. All feel free to ignore me.

Scorps · 21/11/2009 18:49

GS - the SF vaccine, the same as any other, isn't tested on pg women as its unethical.

Claire - How is the vaccine more risky than SF itself? (apart from the fact its a new vaccine) Can you link me some info please? I am normally a very healthy woman, no asthma, no nothing (incase this makes a difference to link information etc).

I just am aware of the chance to become immune to SF, and the benefit that brings to Maisie, especially as Maisie has 3 siblings who attend school/nursery. I would beat myself up forever if they brought it home and Maisie got very poorly so small .

madmissy · 21/11/2009 19:06

claire feel for you hun this is exactly how i was with dd2 and that with the spd was enough to induce me. moan away thats why we are all here to support one another

im having a good moan too!

charleymouse · 21/11/2009 19:09

Hi
Good luck Annie, hope you are ok Claire.

I had the swine flu jab last Tuesday. Asked the MW, the GP practice nurse and they all basically said yup go for it. I really do trust my GP he has been very good and said if I was his wife he would be pushing for me to have it so got it done. Arm was sore for a couple of days but no other effects.

AM having more contractions and they seem to be increasing in intensity. Off again for a walk about.

Was convinced this baby would be late as DD was ten days late and arrived 20 mins before I was due to be induced. It is her birthday next Sunday.

Oh well, have been told if this baby not here by Tuesday I am due to go to hospital for augmentation of labour , can't see that happening myself think it is on its way now.

Will keep you updated. Wonder if my CP insurance will cover us for a new trip?

Scorps · 21/11/2009 19:09

A MN thread about the vaccines

Interesting!

LaDiDaDi · 21/11/2009 19:25

Exciting thread this evening!

Keep us updated charleymouse.

Sorry you are feeling so rubbish Claire.

I'm very uncertain re the swine flu vaccine just because I'm unconvinced that we really know the risks of SF to me as an individual. Yes, I'm pregnant but I'm also generally very healthy. I think that if I had any further risk factors then I would go for it but as it is I'm not sure.

We still can't think of/agree on a name.
Would like Edward or perhaps Edward and George as middle names but really struggling to think of a first name. Dd is Laura Isobel. Any ideas?

GoldenSnitch · 21/11/2009 19:55

If DS was at school then I might think differently Scorps. But he's not so I can pretty much quarantine us if I need to.

I was worried about the adjuvent as well as the lack of testing. I saw a report on the BBC news website that linked Pre-eclampsia with an overactive immune system and as adjuvents boost immune response and I had PE when I was expecting DS, the last thing I want to do is risk getting it again by boosting my immune system right now.

Claire236 · 21/11/2009 20:01

Scorps - I meant that there is the risk of actually catching SF as opposed to another flu/cold virus. Then there is the risk if you do get SF (which you won't even know for definite) of being seriously ill with it. To me the risks of a vaccination which hasn't been properly tested are greater than the combination of those risks. Hope that makes sense, I'm finding it difficult to put into words. I did read something very interesting but unfortunately it was hard copy & belonged to someone else so I can't link it. Having said that I think it's possible to read something that argues for all the alternatives which is what makes it so hard when all we want is to protect our unborn babies.

madmissy · 21/11/2009 20:10

its hard as i see both sides of the do and don't but i keep coming back to the untested

Scorps · 21/11/2009 20:58

The risk of me/a member of my family catching SF is quite high - 3 dc who all attend school & nursery. Quarantine isnt really possible for us; if this was my first or even second baby with a toddler first dc iyswim then I probably wouldn't.

GS I see your concern. I am lucky enough to have literally no other concerns other than the fact I'm pregnant. Alot of the same things in this vaccine are present in others too that appear to have less fuss, but I have more Reading to do on this

it's nice to chat with other pg mums about this nicely!

charleymouse · 21/11/2009 21:03

I decided to have it as much for me as protecting bump as DS nearly died from meningitis and pneumonia at 3 months so decided to gat it done to protect t as much as me.

CXs every 10 mins.

madmissy · 21/11/2009 21:04

i agree the swine flu threads on mn seem to get swamped and dare i say it confusing

people are accused of scaremongering when in fact we just want to have a rational convo

scorps my worry is like you not so much dd2 but dd1 is at preschool and they gave had cases of swine flu now in fact my friend whos dd is friends with mine has them family ill with it now

what was it you were saying earlier about the anti d being sim ie mercury??

madmissy · 21/11/2009 21:05

oooh oooh how long they been going charley???
