NJ - you are making me smile this morning - continue away with the warbling!
Am also smiling because DD went down to sleep in her cot at 9pm yesterday and although she woke at 10.30pm it was nice that she went down in her own cot for 1.5 hours - a first. She woke up regularly last night for food and has a bit of a cold, but not a bad night and now after having a feed, nappy change, getting dressed and some chill out time downstairs with us all she has been asleep again in her moses basket down here for just over an hour - another first - wuhooooo! Suspect it is just because she has a cold, but nevertheless, is nice that she is actually getting some sleep, bless her!

GYo - 7pm to 12.30am sounds fab - can you share any tips?! FWIW DS was like this - started his long sleep from 7pm and eventually just stretched out when he would next wake for a feed, eventually going the whole night. We tried "dreamfeeding" at 10.30/11ish, but he just never took to it. Sounds like you have it all cracked though, really glad it is going well.

Kayz - yay for weight loss (can't remember if I said that already).

Ooh, Ses, how exciting!

Right, am sure DD will wake any second but am going to try to do washing up before she does.

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 10:15

I think I kind of go into some sort of self-whatsitmethingy (you know the Paul McKenna - or whatever his name is- with the 'you are feeeeeeling sleeeeeeepy' doingswhatsit) can't think of the word.... anyway, it's kind of like I know I have this thing ripping through me and I can feel it, and on the outside of me it hurt's like hell, and I show it, but in my mind I'm all calm and egging myself on and just really chilled and wondering why everyone is running around after me and when I can have a glass of wine brew! LOL It's like I detatch myself from myself I thought it was the G&A that did it with DS2 but I barely touched it with Mikey and I was still the same. Still can't think of the word.....

I think as long as the work thing isn't going to be stressfull, and you can make the most of having a room to yourself then 36 weeks is probably great timing!

Tink, it is the first time I've seen the Wispa's in a multi-pack. It'll be nice to see your brother after so long

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 10:19

Morning Star Hoorah for sleeping babies They all get there eventually (all except DS1, he was 5yo before we could almost be sure he'd sleep through!)

Diege · 01/05/2009 10:22

Self-hypnosis!!!! Yes, that's what I'm aiming for, the detatched, feeling pain but clam and in control sensation. How d'you do it then, tell me, tell me!!
Have booked Cardiff...think 36 weeks may well be the time where I need to get away from the family and have a night in a hotel
STAR, great news on dd's sleep. Cold or not it sounds like she's getting the right idea
TINKS, will be great seeing your brother, and for him to see B. Have a lovely lunch

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 10:25

Yes, that's the one. Don't know how I do it, not even aware at the time that I am doing it, it's only afterwards I look back and think how the hell was I thinking about such mundane things while all of that was going on!

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 10:30

Having said that I don't know how I do it, I think it has something to do with some advice I picked up off of the telly on one of those birthing programs, someone was saying when you feel a contraction coming on instead of being scared of it and saying 'no no no', you have to think 'yes yes yes another contraction, babies getting closer', and as sad and a bit as that sound's, it does have a lot to do with it, it's hard at first when the contractions start taking over but if you think about it strongly enough it does work. Just letting the contraction open your body open up instead of being rigid and tense makes a big difference.

I know I have now outed myself as some sort of hippy, but if you're allowed electric candles, I'm allowed my 'yes yes yes'!!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 01/05/2009 10:42

I keep falling asleep within 10 minutes of listening to my hypnobirthing CD

What you've said makes sense though Nat. I'm kind of hoping for as natural as poss but won't rule anything out as I have no idea how I'll be and how the baby will be!

tink - have a fab time with your brother.

I'm having lunch at the pub today with a friend and our dogs. She's got an 18 month old black lab and one of ours is besotted with her!

Diege · 01/05/2009 10:49

Yes that does make sense NAT (you old hippy n). I think half my problem is that I try to fight the contractions - sorky's hypno cd will def help!
Hi SES, pub lunch sounds good . How are the bhs today??

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 01/05/2009 10:52

Fairly quiet on the BHs today. Plenty of rippling movements. Trying to work out how mini Ses is lying but movements are all over the place!!

Btw, meant to say iron tablets over the counter are pretty cheap so if you're near a pharmacy and want to get going with them it may be an idea. Basic cheapest ones are Ferrous Sulphate. I'm sure you're aware iron can sometimes bung you up though, so be careful and keep the lactulose at the ready incase!

Moosy · 01/05/2009 10:55

Diege, take Vitamin C with your ferrous sulphate, it helps it work and has the opposite effect on your insides

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 10:56

I think it's the old 'hope for the best, plan for the worst' re. labour, and that goes for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd......7th time. I know the hardest thing I found about DS1's labour was that because obviously I'd never been through it before, I did things I'd never done before, things out of my control, and I'd never experienced anything that just completely takes over you like that, it was like learning a whole new part of me. Also, and I blame my mum entirely for this (!!), she'd always told us if your hurting (bumped heads, banged elbows etc.) to rub it hard, that's great for a bumped head, or banged elbow, but rubbing it just doesn't make it any better during child birth! I can clearly remember (through all the haze that was DS1's labour) laying there shaking my hands about because I wanted to rub it better, but didn't know where to rub!

And Diege, no, noooooo fighting the contractions, just let them get on with it, it'll be over quicker.

Diege · 01/05/2009 10:56

Thanks SES . Think it is ferrous suphate that I was (to be) prescribed, so will pop in and get some. Just checked my notes and my hb was 8.1 when last tested. Do you know if that's 'bad', or a level that I could boost up with good nutrition?? (was 11.2 at booking in).
Also having lots of rippling movements here - this baby is a lot more active than dds were, although that could be my slacker tummy muscles

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 10:58

Oh yes, apparently that Spatone stuff is good as well, and it doesn't bung you up.

Diege · 01/05/2009 11:01

I was going to say NAT, where would you rub??
Thanks MOOS, will take with glass of fresh orange. How are you feeling today?
Oh and does anyone know if it's ok to continue to take pregnacare with iron tabs?? Is there such thing as having too much iron, or does it just flush out if surplus?

Diege · 01/05/2009 11:02

That remind me NAT, mw puts 'spatone and floradix' in same category as busy body doulas . God knows why - hardly thought of spatone as an 'alternative' therapy, and told her as much..

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 11:03

Not sure about how bad 8.1 is, but I know anything under 10 is considered low. Think my lowest was 7.9 or something, that was when I had that flu, and the only time they ever actually got around to prescribing me iron tablets, there had been talks of it before, but no one ever actually did it till then, and once I left the hospital no one did me a repeat prescription or anything, am sure that is why I was so poorly after the birth.

NatalieJane · 01/05/2009 11:05

No you can die from taking too much, but I would have thought that for a couple of weeks at least it would fine, especially since you're low on it anyway.

Your MW sound's like a right old hag!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 01/05/2009 11:18

Sorry - popped out to put washing out!

The World Health Organisation defines anaemia in pregnancy when levels are below 11. The NHS though tends to offer supplements if below 10.
Your levels are obviously pretty low but I know of someone who's levels were 4.3 before being picked up on at 28 weeks and within 2 or 3 weeks of treatment, they were back up to 9.5+

Moos is absolutely right about the vitamin C too and just trying to have iron rich foods - green leafy veg, well cooked red meats, etc.

Re taking the Pregnacare as well, it is possible to have too much iron and you'll then get really bunged up but if you take them at separate times of the day (ideally 12 hrs apart) you should be fine and in any case I don't think Pregnacare has hugely significant amounts of iron.

Diege · 01/05/2009 11:37

Thanks SES and NAT . Will def take 12 hours apart and try and follow healthy diet too. I've been a veggie since I was 15, and a pretty sloppy one at that (lots of processed quorn stuff, hardly any actual vegetables )so need to take good hard look at diet I think! Must try to like spinach, but it tastes so bleugh!!!
Off to Jo Jingles with dds - I just know she's going to wee in her pants - have gone through 3 changes already, but as she's 3.5 I'm sticking with it this time!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 01/05/2009 11:44

Enjoy Jo Jingles (I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for no accidents for DD!)
Sorry, didn't realise you were vegetarian so scrap the red meat! Instead: nspinach, brocolli, peas, curly Kale, dried apricots, cashew nuts. Wholemeal bread is better than white bread and also tea and coffee can reduce iron absorption if you're having 6+ cups a day.

Right, I'm off to clean some floors before going out.

Catch you all later!

Diege · 01/05/2009 11:59

Thank you! Am fussy and actually left some kurly kale at side of plate the other day after dh 'introduced' it to me Will try the broccoli and peas for sure - can't bring myself to eat an apricot. Enjoy your lunch! Rain seems to be heading this way - perfect timing
Agree Nat, MW is in hag territory..have asked for next appt in 3 weeks time so I see the other one in the practice (hopeless, but nice with it).

Ello ello ello

Hiya BB, 11th June will be here before you know it

Think I'd have been far safer staying on MN, have just spent a slightly large fortune on Fat Face DH's face won't be fat, just a bit I can't help it, their stuff is fab, and there is 20% off everything on line, just wish they did baby clothes as well! Oh well, that's the two eldest sorted for the summer, as long as they don't go and do that bloody annoying thing and grow like after the last lot of summer stuff I bought grrrrr! How bloody dare they?!

And I wouldn't mind, but the sun has gone and it is pissing it down out there, I refuse to grump about it, have done far too much of that this week!
