I was a teenage Mum first time round, I had my son when I was 19 but when his Dad left I made damn sure that we would never be in a position where we had to rely on anyone else's charity. I went to uni and worked part time while he was on his visits to his Dad and made sure that we could have a life. I'm still very young to have so many children but they're all happy, healthy, well cared for and well turned out so I must be doing something right!

I get extremely rankled with people who accept their bad circumstances as they are and don't try and improve things. It's easy to live up to the stereotype and wallow in misery - not so easy to pick yourself up and change your life.

Jennster - Yes, pregnancy = grossesse in French.

Gros = fat (masculine)
Grosse = fat (feminine)
Grossesse = pregnancy

Momino - I was wondering about linea negra the other day. I don't have it yet and can't remember when I got it with DD.

We just returned from a 10 day holiday in Turkey, where my parents live (I figured that is the last time we are visiting for a while). I had a paper from doctor saying I could travel, but it was in French and nobody could read it. I found the trick is to say you are 5.5 months pregnant when asked on the plane.

By the way, I just realized you are about to have 3 kids under 3 - Respect! It took us three years to get over the earthquake that was DD's birth and babyhood. You must be a very strong & resourceful woman

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 07/03/2009 08:33

Good morning all

3 under 3 years old

I'm going to struggle with 3 at ages 11, 4.5 and a newborn and the 11yr old and 4.5yr old can look after themselves pretty much!!

I think I may have mentioned this before, but the Superwoman who runs DD2's morning nursery has (deep breath) DD1 aged just 4, DS1 aged nearly 3, DD2 aged 18 months and DD3 aged 6 months and she's permanently calm and has had my DD2 over for a sleepover with 2 other kids as well. She's a credit to womanhood.

Farmers market this morning to look forward to (ooh I love it!) and then watching DD2 play football (which I pretend to love, even though it's cold and windy)

llareggub · 07/03/2009 10:42

Morning all!

I'm feeling so better today after sending DS off to the in-laws for 24 hours. I still woke up at 6.20am, but could snuggle back down to sleep for a much-needed lie-in. Bliss. Now the sun is shining, the windows are open, I've finished my Davina work-out and I'm about to tackle the cleaning. Who knew that cleaning could be enjoyable? I think the pregnancy is making me weird!

We had a lovely meal last night on our "date" sans DS. Still, we were so tired we were home by 9pm! I think I must look very pregnant now as the waiter scuttled off to get me a pillow for my back and the other woman waiting to use the (one) loo let me go first with a look of pity on her face.

I was a bit annoyed by the young mother thread. Yes, she asked the question about why young mothers are judged by it is easy for older mothers to look back from a position of relative security to be scathing about her position. We should not forget that she is in a vulnerable position, and is posting on a board designed to provide support for expectant mothers. Can anyone really say that they have the same maturity and outlook on life in their 30s as they did in their teens?

SpangleMaker · 07/03/2009 10:45

Morning all

Haven't been on for ages as I've been ridiculously busy: 2 London trips for work (one o/n in horrid hotel), 1 Birmingham, w/e away nr Watford for a business thing for DH, presentations, appraisals, out seeing friends before baby arrives.... phew! The last week-and-a-bit would have worn me out if I wasn't pregnant but as it is I'm completely exhausted I've planned a quiet weekend and have Monday off though so hopefully I'll feel more human after that.

Had a quick skim through the last 10 pages so I've more than likely missed something important but wanted to say

chocbunnies congrats on setting your wedding date. Hope your bump is back to normal.
divedaisy congrats on opening your shop, great achievement!
bantam73 glad things are ok

detsy have you sorted your wardrobe thing? DH does fitted wardrobes, any kind of size/fittings etc, though I think he only has one supplier of sliding doors and they're at the high end. Let me know if you'd like any info, even if you just want the fittings. Obv he also has a list of decent fitters too.

Belgianchocolates · 07/03/2009 11:12

Morning everyone,

I'm completely shattered today. That beer and skittles night, without the beer or the skittles has completely worn me out. I felt OK last night, went to bed about 1am, but I woke up feeling sooooo tired.

Sorry chocolatebunnies that I didn't get back to you, I didn't manage to get back on MN yesterday. My advise would have been to phone labour ward really, because usually they ask you to come in just to have a listen to baby for reassurance, but if there's no bleeding/loss of waters/tightenings and baby is moving then everything should be OK. Like someone said, your waters are around baby to protect it from bumps. I'd still advise to rest for the rest of the day though, sometimes your uterus can be a bit 'irritable' after a fall. Congrats on the wedding too. You're brave to organise something so close to your due date!

re the linea negra: I haven't got one either and I'm sure I had it with my other 2. I've sort of put it down to this being a winter pregnancy and my bump being out of the sun, while with the other dc I was 20 odd weeks when it was summer and used to spend time in the sun with my bump.

The weather is lovely here in the Midlands by the way. Nice and sunny and quite warm. Feels like spring!

pulapula · 07/03/2009 11:18

I got a linea nigra with DD but not DS and nothing yet with this LO so not expecting one now.

I have been feeling really tired these last few days. I need to phone for my 28 bloods results on Monday and guess i will find out what my iron levels are.

llareggub · 07/03/2009 11:34

No line here either! I didn't get one with DS either. I wonder if the fact I very, very fair-skinned has anything to do with it? I'm practically blue, even in the height of summer!

I'm exhausted after mopping the floor downstairs. It takes ages and I am definitely feeling my energy suffer at the moment. I have to "rest" in between jobs.

Definitely spring-like in the Midlands. I've just got the washing in off the line and the sun felt quite warm on my arms. Bare feet too!

Momino · 07/03/2009 12:11

morning all.
very quiet house and basking a bit: slept to 730, coffee in bed with book, leisurely dog walk, fried egg sandwich, long shower... this luxury certainly combats the loneliness!

DH is now on his way to US. I've sent little gifts to send my family who are meeting him and understand they have loads of american goodies (whatever those are!) to send back with him, hurrah!

about 3 under 3 - actually, I need to alter the list because DD1 is now 3. she'll be 3 and 4 mos when baby3 arrives. i do think the age gap is smaller than I'd have liked but can't complain as I've now seen mothers of 4+ children on this thread!

I do ask my mom (mother of 12) how she did it, and she said her mother helped out when the first ones were babies then as we all came along the older ones helped out with us... easy peasy ! well she makes it sound easy but then she's very laid back and has learned to roll with it all (I'm not so laid back unfortunately).

anyway, glad eldest can talk and is potty trained which makes it a bit easier. also dd2 is a bit more easy going so am hoping will take the New Arrival less intensely than dd1 did. we'll see.

Polony · 07/03/2009 12:43

I left for only a little while and there have been so many posts!

Chocbunnies congratulations and hope you're feeling better - there is absolutely nothing to lose in phoning the hospital/ your MW even if its to be told - especially if its to be told - you've nothing to worry about. Bantam glad you're ok too.

Congratulations also Divedaisy, you're a star, the shop sounds fabulous. I'd still marry you. He's a lucky man.

And thats all I can remember in one go...hello everyone else. Welcome newbies.

I had reverse de ja vu this morning (am feeling all low blood sugary or something) where I was mid sentence and suddenly had absolutely no idea what we were talking about. DP began his reply and I had no idea what he was talking about.

Tummum · 07/03/2009 13:29

Afternoon ladies. Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. Got up all bright this morning after the DDs allowed me a 'sort-of' lie in until 8, but then realised I am have swollen fingers and ankles and swollen around my lips too. Nice. Pregnancy is interesting isn't it ! So I returned to bed, removed my wedding rings (well, the ones I can actually get off my fingers) and have been asleep for a couple of hrs whilst DH takes the DDs shopping, which has been lovely. Anyone else getting the swollen fingers / ankles / mouth thing. Should I be worried about PE?? (Paranoid alert. Sorry.)

We ought to think about a new thread title too- think we are running out of room rapidly. Any ideas (I'm hopeless at that sort of stuff)

llareggub · 07/03/2009 13:33

Tummum I think you should give your MW a call. I was had swollen feet, fingers and feet but I'd also had headaches and floating bits in my eyes. I went into labour ward just to get checked over. They tested my urine, monitored the baby and generally poked me a bit and declared me fine, and advised me to drink more water.

No harm in chatting things through the MW, better to be on the safe side I think.

Febes · 07/03/2009 13:42

at your reverse de ja vue Polony!! I do that all the time DH gets really mad at me. It usually comes back a few mintues later.
I have been cleaning as well this morning. Began to sort DDs room and tidied my SILs room. She is 30 and staying with us for the past 8 months and probably at least another year from south africa and I love her to bits but she is the messiest person. She doesn't make her bed or pull the curtains and there are clothes all over her room. So today when she went out I went up and sorted it and put on a load of her washing and tonight I'm going to lay down the law. Its my (and DH)house and although she pays us rent there are certain standards that have to be meet like opening the curtains!!!!!!! AIBU??? I guess I'm getting reading for when I have teenagers.

On a happier note DD slept in her own room for the first time since SIL arrived as we just finished our loft conversion so now hae an extra bedroom. Because DD has been in our room for 8 months now I wasn't sure how it would go. I heard her stir twice and went down to check her and then at 7.30am I heard her music on (she can turn it on herself) and I went in and she was lying there listening and when she saw me she jumped up with the biggest smile. In the last few weeks she has been getting up at 6 ish and crying but I think its cause she could see us lying in bed. I hope tonight is as good!! Also DH and I went to bed last night and were able to have the light on and talk and walk around doing stuff which was a real treat. Ohhhh simple things.

Anyway I must use the time DD is asleep to doing some more work. I'mm off to sort our room out now!!

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 13:46

Hello all. Have been lurking for a bit as everytime I've come on I've had to catch up on about 5 pages of chat and can't think where to begin to answer you all. And TBH just don't have the brain power just now!
Tummum i'd get that checked out, the swollen mouth thing sounds a bit odd. I'd give your m/w a call and see if they want you to be checked over. I take it you don't have headaches or pain or any other symptoms to be worried about?
Hello newbies, nice to meet you
Hi momino - don't be lonely, just enjoy the peace (although I do know what you mean!)
Re: the linea negra - I've never had one in any of my 3 pg's but then I am blonde with fair skin (yup just double checked and definitely no line there!) Nothing to worry about, just pigmentation.
Anyone else feeling exhausted and becoming addicted to baths (I now have a shower in the morning and a bath at night and if I miss my bath I feel really grumpy! It also means that I sleep MUCH better than when I haven't had one). I put a few drops of my clarins body oil in the bath water (got 3 bottles of it at Christmas!) and it smells heavenly and makes my skin all silky.
Have had a really stressful week with work, DH's work and various other things and am feeling completely wiped out. Hoping to have a wee snooze this afternoon while DD2 naps and DD1 is at a friends house for a sleep over. Anyway sorry I've been neglecting you all, but blimey you can all TALK! this thread has to be the fastest one yet.
Hmmmmm, will try to think of a new thread title.......

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 13:51

Does anyone else have an overwhelming nesting instinct kicking in yet? I have become obsessed with re-planning the house, moving furniture, ordering blinds, organising stuff, and wanting to choose paint and wallpaper in a frienzied fashion. DH thinks I'm mental. Don't remember being like this last time (well, not until closer to D-day anyway). Maybe I'm just weird......

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 13:51

See, now I'm back on here I can't stop talking.

Talking to myself again....

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 13:52

ladyhelen2 · 07/03/2009 13:59

Afternoon all.

I also have the house to myself today! I dropped DH and DS off at the station at 7am, and promptly went back to bed. I did feel a pang and thought wish I was going with them as DS was SO excited about going on a train, but as I managed to go back to sleep till 10am, the pang soon went!

Still feel a bit tired though, so just working myself up to doing a bit of cleaning.Think I may watch a bit of telly and lounge around a bit more before attacking the bathroom.

llareggub · 07/03/2009 14:07

frazzledoldbag definitely, all I've done lately is clean, tidy and organise!

pulapula · 07/03/2009 14:08

Afternoon all,

I am enjoying the peace and quiet as DH has taken DD to a 4th birthday party, and DS is napping. Watching "house doctor" on TV as nothing much on. Usually DD is here so its non-stop cbeebies.

SpangleMaker · 07/03/2009 14:10

I'm here! Just having a cheddar & chutney sandwich for lunch & thinking about having a nap this afternoon. Not that I've done a great deal so far today, just some washing & tidying. I also filled some space I'd cleared out in one of the wardrobes in our bedroom (which will be baby's room at some point ) with all the nappies etc I've been gradually collecting. DH was starting to take it over so I thought I'd better get in there and fill it quickly!

Had a lovely long bath this morning. Frazzled I love the Clarins oil too but just run out & none left for my bath. Can't decide whether to get some more of that or MamaMio as so many of you say it's so lovely.

SpangleMaker · 07/03/2009 14:14

Not in full nesting mode yet, but starting to panic slightly about how much there's still to sort out. DH is ridiculously laid back about it all.
