Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 06/03/2009 18:10

blotted welcome!!

chocbunnies - take it easy, hope you're ok.

I am panicking at the thought of not wearing comfy, forgiving Uggs and possible having to reveal my cankles (possibly even thankles) to the world (they look like yorkshire puddings) - but I am fond of ballet pumps on the whole.....

pulapula · 06/03/2009 18:10

Chocobunnies how r u feeling. If you are worried, try the hospital as they can advise you. Congrats on your wedding- 1st May is a great date (easy to remember and weather is usually nice around the bank hol I find). I hope you have a lovely day- very exciting!

Momino · 06/03/2009 18:32

chocbunnies, echoing everyone else's advice: call if you don't feel right. i fell on my bump in 1st preg and went in for a check mainly because I'm RH neg and they wanted to be sure I got an antiD jab as precaution. everything was ok and divedaisy is right that bump is well padded.

divedaisy, will check out Liz Earle cream. sounds good.

llareggub, have a pair of shabby converse but more comfy than my platforms. will wear those until i find something else.

divedaisy · 06/03/2009 19:19

momino - you can get sample sizes of the stuff on the Liz Earle site for around £10- £15. The items come all individually wrapped in tissue paper, and I often receive free samples too. I love receiveing their parcels - its exciting like Christmas morning!!!

chocolatebunnies - are you OK??? Hows bump?? COngratulations on setting your wedding date!

I read that teenage thread - terrible... I know there are people out there that abuse the benefit systems, but they're not all teenage mothers. It was upsetting reading. What is a troll anyway??? I didn't post cos I didn't want to deal with being slatted about my views! I sometimes wish I'd started having my children earlier. A girl I went to school wiith got married at 18 and had her first at 19 - he would be 20/21 now!!! I cannot imagine myself with a child at that age now. Does having a child later keep you younger or make you feel older!!!??? What about the grannies who are having kids in their 60s & 70s - getting child benefits with their pension and winter fuel allowance!! () Please don't start a fight with me.....

divedaisy · 06/03/2009 19:23

I fancy a pair of Vans shoes... I don't really feel like buying myself anything, cos I dont feel sexy enough to warrant getting something new to wear. It's my birthday next week and I'd love something new, but I have enough maternity wear and can't justify getting something new... mind you HotMilk might do the job... but I don't knwo my bra size and can't be arsed getting it professionally measured. Then if I get it wrong I've wasted money!

divedaisy · 06/03/2009 19:26

I'm so pleased we're all friends on here and really supporting each other.

I need ot go and take some co-codamol - my neck, shoulder and right arm are agony - bloody prolapsed discs... Now I'll spend the rest of this evening dozy and sleepy/spaced...

pulapula · 06/03/2009 19:27

I rarely wear heels, so seem to wear the same shoes as always (at most they have a 1 or 1.5in block heel). If you want comfy shoes, I recommend M&S "footglove" range (if they still make them). Really soft leather and comfy inners.

Is anyone else starting to have trouble getting shoes and socks on- bump is definitely getting in the way!

Another question for those with multiple DCs. I know i probably aren't quite as excited about every kick etc as i was with DD or DS but i'm finding it hard to get DH to show any interest at all in my bump. I'm sure he found it fascinating before

pulapula · 06/03/2009 19:42

Divedaisy, I think a troll is someone who makes up a story/situation, just to provoke a reaction (I guess). Not sure why anyone would do it.

I do wonder if kids keep you younger or make you feel older. I definitely feel older at the moment lol!

I don't think i was ready to have kids before my 30s, but it is a bit depressing to think i will be in my late 50s before my kids have all left home (thats assuming they leave at 18!). So the benefit of having kids younger is that you get some "freedom" in your 40s.

As for the teenage mum thread, my mum and dad married at 20, 2 kids by 22 and 1 more later at 28. She wanted 1 more but she had to have a hysterectomy in her early 30s. They did struggle financially to bring us all up and my mum admits she got pg just because she didn't like her job...but then she got pg with me when my sister was 3 mo so that was a shock for her! I guess what i'm trying to say is whenever you decide to have children (accidents or not) you have to manage as best you can to bring them up, and give them the best you can in your circumstances. No-one should judge as long as the kids aren't being neglected/ mistreated.

Olderbutnotwiser · 06/03/2009 19:42

hi everyone
have not had time to join in for ages but have finished work now and am a lady of leisure ( ha ha ) on maternity leave now so will try to contribute more.
my DS3 is at school full time and DD2 is still going to nursery so will have at least 3 days child free for a while.

Had a scare 2 weeks ago and had to spend 2 nights in hospital as started having lots of tightenings but after some steroids and drugs to stop the contractions was allowed home. My last baby arrived at 34 weeks after lots of tightenings from 32 weeks so am resting a lot now. was a nightmare trying to organise child care ( i'm a single parent ) but luckily ex DH and DD1 helped out. A good trial run for when this LO comes

This is baby no 6 for me - will be DD£

Olderbutnotwiser · 06/03/2009 19:43

meant to say DD 3

pulapula · 06/03/2009 19:50

Olderbutnotwiser

Sorry to hear about your scare- but glad things have calmed down. Single mum of 5(nearly 6) and working until recently - hats off to you!

My DS is in nursery 2 days (DD 2.5 days) but i am wondering about paying the extra and having 3 free days (especially when LO arrives!). DD starts school in Sept (which will make things easier apart from having to arrange my days around the school run)...

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the msgs.

I seem to be ok, no pain or anything unusual, it took about 20 mins before I felt any movemnent from bump but now its all back to normal kicks and punches, poor thing was probably disorienated wondering what the hellwas going on!!!

Thanks for all the congatulations, we've been engaged a year, last week I thought about sorting the wedding, so on Monday we booked it, my family are freaking out as its only two months to plan everything but as long as we're there, Im not fussed what happens! I've never been one to dream of a big fancy weddng, so its just going to be family in the registry office, ordered my dress and Madi is going to wear my bridesmaid dress I wore when I was 2 to my aunties wedding! all very exciting!

As for getting shoes on, I seem to be doing ok so far, I can still reach my feet and can get my socks on, but for how much longer I dont know!

In my first pregnancy I remember vividly being sat on the floor when DP came home from work, in tears, because I couldnt get my converse hi-top boots on or over my ankles, it was a very sad day! I then wore flip flops for the rest of the pregnancy and have just dug them back out again!

Thanks again for all the messages

Jennster · 06/03/2009 20:34

Congratualations on the wedding chocolatebunnies. We started planning our wedding the minute I found out I was pregnant with DD. 5 weeks it took us. It was very small, but perfect and just what we wanted. Of course everybody knew we were pregnant, but at least I was only 9 weeks and had no problem finding a dress. Have you any ideas what you are going to wear?

Jennster · 06/03/2009 20:35

Sorry just seen you've ordered your dress.

Jennster · 06/03/2009 20:39

Anybody know what it's called when you put apple in the bottom of a sponge cake? I made it for pudding tonight but can't remember what it's called. Apple Charlotte? Queen of puddings?

Momino · 06/03/2009 21:20

chocolatebunnies, you're gettingmarried on my due date. hope you have pics to show as well, bet Madi will look adorable as well.

Jennster, no idea about the apple sponge but sounds good.

olderbutwiser, welcome! how do you do it though? I certainly can't complain about my 2 (soon to be 3) .

now watching supernanny and learning some things .

pulapula · 06/03/2009 21:32

Dandy- yes, IKWYM about the young mum- she didn't help herself at times in terms of distancing herself from the stereotype of teenage mums. I can't help but feel sorry though as I hope she does go to college and fulfil all her dreams for the future (happy relationship, great mum etc), but worry that she will find it hard. My cousin got pg at 15 and my aunt and uncle helped with bringing up her DD (so much so she was more attached to them than her own mum). Only now that she is 25 is she progressing in her career (she has just trained to be a classroom assistant) and found a BF who is happy to take on her 9 year old DD too, so it hasn't been easy. She still lives with her mum and dad in their council house (as does my 36 year old cousin and another grown-up cousin).

CoteDAzur · 06/03/2009 21:37

Congratulations chocolatebunnies

flippineck · 06/03/2009 21:41

chocolatebunnies - congratulations! How exciting!

Jennster - I think it's Eve's pudding. Yum!

I hadn't read the thread about young mums, you can tell by the number of posts that there's arguments going on! Obviously that rule doesn't apply on the antenatal threads...talking of which, we'll be out of space soon, any ideas for a new title?

CoteDAzur · 06/03/2009 21:48

re "young mum"

I sometimes wonder what people mean by "good mum" in this context, saying a teenage girl living with her parents can be a good mum, shouldn't be criticized etc.

Surely being a good mother is not only feeding, playing, hugging a baby but also shouldering his responsibility, including providing for him?

I completely understand a pregnant teenage girl wanting to prove prejudices wrong, but find it strange that she has to ask why people judge teenage mums. Surely that is rather obvious.

Jennster · 06/03/2009 22:07

That's the one. Eves pudding.

Cote, is the word for pregnant or pregnancy in French grossesse or something similar? Another charming word.

Momino · 06/03/2009 22:36

has anyone got a 'linea negra'? i'm huge but haven't got one yet though I thought I had one earlier in the last 2 pregnancies. not that i'm complaining.

I'm really tired and off to bed. it's so quiet here. DDs at inlaws and DH is in the US until Tue. a few of my family members including my mom are going to see him, he's so lucky. i'm too pregnant to travel though, otherwise would have accompanied him.

Called DDs before bedtime and they barely wanted to talk to me. it's good they're excited and happy to be at grandparents but made me feel a little left out and sad .

I should take advantage of the quiet time and go to sleep.

night all. xx
