Heels, lovely high heels. I am wearing Uggs and flat shoes only . All my fabulous skyscraper heels are currently being stolen by DD2 so she can totter around the house looking 'glamorous'.

And welcome!

Belgianchocolates · 06/03/2009 13:53

Ooh grumpy I miss my heels too. I couldn't find my Uggs or ballet pumps today, so ended up going to the mw with 'heels' of about 1 inch. Gosh I struggled. They seemed so high to me!
As for my DH: I want our wardrobes sorted so our stuff can come back into our room and out of ds's room, so the baby's stuff can go in it's proper place. But he's got it in his head that he really wants to sort out the utility. WHY?? I'm not bothered about that, the baby wont be affected by whether the washing machine is standing on new tiles or old lino! But it will need space to sleep!!! Men [rolling eyes emoticon]

Our school's PTFA is organising a beer and skittles night tonight. We want to go to support the school, but to get tickets you need to approach a member of the PTFA. Well, how do I know who's a member and who isn't? Really, I wish they could make it a bit easier. I suppose I'll just get to school and randomly ask other mums if they're a PTFA member and if not, if they know who is!

Momino · 06/03/2009 14:15

i miss heels too .
on the weight gain, I've gained about 1.5 stone which is actually less than I thought giving the size of this bump.
had a size check today at midwife and still measuring 3 weeks ahead according to MW. going back in 3 weeks when they'll decide whether to have a size scan or not. I almost hope yes so perhaps i can check out the sex. Or, since we got this far should I leave it a surprise ?

grumpy, did you ask about NCT nearly new sales? i've been to quite a few and they can be hit or miss. usually the spring ones are great as everyone's clearing out their houses. The one I went to last week had big equipment like pushchairs, babygyms, big toys, bouncy chairs, rockers, mounds of clothes, books, etc. most of the stuff is in good condition but sometimes you have to sort through. YOu've got to be in the mood for it. I wasn't last week so saved a lot of £ by coming home with just a skirt for dd2.

Momino · 06/03/2009 14:18

hope Bantam has rung and hope she's ok.

I've now got an empty house and feel a bit lonely. the 2 girls have gone to inlaws for the weekend and DH is away until tues. i know this is such an opportunity to get things done as well as relax. at the moment, I just feel lonely. I'm sure I'll settle into it and will relax by tomorrow.

Belgianchocolates · 06/03/2009 14:29

I've been thinking about Bantam too. We haven't heard from her yet. I hope she's OK.

Momino I know how you feel. It's odd to have an empty house isn't it. When they're there you just want peace and quiet, but when you finally get it, you want the noise back! I remember spending an hour crying and cuddling one of my dd's teddy when dh took them away for a few days while I had to stay at home for my training .

llareggub · 06/03/2009 14:29

Hi everyone, just taking a break from painting to have a coffee (naughty me!) and a relax for 5 minutes.

I'm volunteering at the NCT nearly new sale in a couple of weeks. I've asked for an early slot and a sitting down role, so I'll have plenty of opportunity to check out the bargains! I'll let you know what it is like.

I've just come off the phone to my diabetes nurse, as my blood sugar was slightly raised this morning, which we've put down to the cornflakes as I suspected. I couldn't be bothered to weigh them so I think my portion was on the large side! She agrees that I probably don't need my lunchtime insulin so we are going to experiment over the weekend without it. It's great because she was full of doom and gloom about how it would just get worse as my pregnancy progressed, so it is lovely to prove her wrong! [evil]

divedaisy belatedly, I'm sorry, massive congratulations on opening your shop. It is a huge achievement and I can't imagine having the energy or the drive for something like that right now. Well done you!

Momino · 06/03/2009 14:32

belgian, that's just how I feel - I need one of DDs' cuddly toys. instead I'm trying to keep my mind occupied by MN/Facebook and doing some work.

Momino · 06/03/2009 14:35

Divedaisy, I'll join in on llareggub's best wishes: congrats on your shop and hope all is well. i'm in awe of you doing this as it must be a lot of work, time and energy. best wishes.

llareggub, great for proving your diab nurse wrong and hope it continues well.

llareggub · 06/03/2009 14:37

We've got an empty house too! Just me and DH for the next 24 hours. Apart from painting the nursery we are going to plan our new bedroom (at last!) and get the measuring tape so that we can order what we need. We're out for dinner tonight at a place we last visited when I was pregnant with DS1, can't wait! Part of me would just like to stay in and enjoy the novelty of not having to do bath, book and bed, but we might not get much chance for some alone time for a while.

I might get the new pump out later and express some milk as DS1 won't be around. It will be interesting to see how much I can get out without him.

flippineck · 06/03/2009 15:21

afternoon all! Lovely and peaceful here, DD is asleep and I'm supposed to be tidying up a abit but I cannot be bothered. Just had a cup of tea and I'm looking on Amazon for new baby books for DD.

bantam - just adding my thoughts to the others, hope all is ok.

Back to the weight thing again, I've realised that my pregnant brain has miscalculated my weight gain! I though it was 2 stone, but actually it's only 1st 10lbs! I feel much better for that, and a bit at my completely wrong calculations!

DH is going away tomorrow for a week with work, I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself about it all, I'm shattered and not sleeping, still working and DD is lovely but tiring. I was going to ask my mum if she could come and stay to help me for a few days, but I was too embarrassed/proud to ask and she thinks I'm a coper so doesn't offer.

Jael · 06/03/2009 15:30

That thread was horrible, I almost wanted to reply, but was too scared, because I'm quite young, and always get judged because I look even younger than I am. I had DD when I was 19, shes three now, and I'll be almost 23 when this baby comes. Even though me and DP have been together for 5 years, we have our house, and he's always worked, I've worked between pregnancies etc. I always feel myself having to explain myself to everyone, because I look so young, especially at the mo. Walking around town etc, I get people look at me pushing DD in her buggy and heavily pregnant, people assume we live in a council house and are on benefits, and thats never been the case for us at all. Sorry if that sounds like a mini rant, I didn't mean it to.

No-one did mention what that arnica was? Jael X

pulapula · 06/03/2009 15:31

flippineck, you should definitely ask your mum if she can come, even if only for a short visit. Even if my DH is only away 1 night, i call on parents or PIL to help out. When i had DD i didnt ask for help and it wasnt often offered for the same reason you give. Now i have no issues with being a pg (and tired) lady needing a bit of support!

daizydoo · 06/03/2009 15:36

Hi there - it's taken me days to catch up and was going to say loads of things, but can't remember what now!!! I hate this pregnancy brain!! I keep leaving the car unlocked too, which isn't great!

Fi, was thinking about you and your mum's shopping situation. Could you ring Age Concern and see if they have any services that your mum could use in the short term? Or order her ready meals from here and order the rest of her food with yours online? At my 1st appt with the physio they suggested that we march up to our local supermarkets customer service desk and ask someone to push our trolley for us and load the car for us - not sure how that one would work in practice!!

llareggub, you mentioned boots sterile storage bags - don't! Mine all leaked, I ended up getting my money back - but that doesn't compensate for all the time, energy and milk that I lost!!!

I hired my tens machine from here last time. It was fine, it kept me going through the early stage of labour. I remember being scared of the boost button at 1st (thought it might hurt too much ) and going to hospital over the speed bumps I had the thing on boost all the way

Bantam - hope all is well with you.

Pula - could you email me on [email protected], thanks

Hypatia · 06/03/2009 15:36

Jael arnica is a plant that helps with bruising and healing.

llareggub · 06/03/2009 15:39

Thanks daizydoo I didn't buy them because they were £7.99. I think I'll probably buy some small bottles and use use those instead. I won't need much to begin with as it is only a back-up plan in case baby goes into SCBU.

pulapula · 06/03/2009 15:39

Jael- didn't realise you were only 22. I'm 37 and don't look my age too (people think i am anything up to 10 years younger) and was asked for ID at the supermarket when i was 28 so i dread to think what people would have thought if i'd started having kids before i did (i was 32).

Arnica is a homeopathic medicine which helps reduce bruising. I took it for my planned cs and all the nurses etc kept saying how little bruising i had so i will definitely be taking it again. You can get it in tiny pill form or in a cream (I got the pills as i didn't think it would be good to put anything on a wound). I got it from Holland and Barrett.

flippineck · 06/03/2009 15:39

pulapula - it's too late now for her to arrange time off work and organise her journey (they live several hundred miles away, she doesn't like driving long distances and the train is complicated!). But I know I'm daft and I should have asked as soon as DH knew he was going.

Jael - arnica is a homeapathic rememdy good for bruising and soft tissue repair, and totally safe to take during and after pregnancy and childbirth and whilst BF. I don't know loads about it though, so hopefully someone will be along soon with more info, for example how long to take it, what strength to have and so on.

flippineck · 06/03/2009 15:42

my goodness, all those cross posts, and all those typos too! Homeopathic remedy of course.

pulapula · 06/03/2009 15:54

Daisydoo - i have emailed you

Arnica i started taking it a few days before the cs and then took it max dose for the first few days after then gradually reduced it or just took it when i was feeling a bit sore. As for strength, mine was whatever they had but guess the stronger the better...

Flippineck- sorry its too late for this time, but don't feel too proud in the future.

boots milk storage bags - i did get some of these when i would freeze milk, but had to prop them upright to avoid leaks. Wasn't happy about the price either. But when i store milk in the fridge i just use small bottles.

llareggub · 06/03/2009 15:57

pulapula where did you get your small bottles? I will need quite a few, I think.

bantam73 · 06/03/2009 16:02

Hi everyone and thanks for all your suport.

I gave up trying to ring MW it was engaged for an hour so I rang the hospital and was told to go straight down. We were monitored, proded and poked for 3hrs. Things seem ok now no more leaking but need to be careful and any change I need to contact them plus having a scan next week to check water and growth

daizydoo · 06/03/2009 16:04

Pula - have emailed you back.

My boots storage bags used to leak from everywhere but the top!! I used these They do 2 different sizes but might be too big for you in the beginning llareggub. I know this is an American site, but they do, do them over here. You just need to make sure you get the pack with cups AND lids - as I found out the hard way!!

Jael · 06/03/2009 16:05

Do you just take one tablet, or a course of them?
I also wasn't allowed out of hospital last time until i'd been to the toilet lol anything I can get to help with that? Gosh I cringe at the thought of me in hosp last time, my bed was such a walk from the toilets, I'd struggle so many times to walk there to try and go, and couldn't cause I was so stressed, I had to leave baby alone etc while I went, not a very nice experience at all...

Yep, I'm only 22. I still always get asked for ID. The amount of times I've been asked for ID for the lottery

pulapula · 06/03/2009 16:06

mmm tricky llareggub think they came free with my avent bottle warmer, steriliser, breast pump etc, but i'm sure you can buy them separately. They just hold 3 or 4 oz rather than 7 or 8oz so don't take up too much space. Gosh, just looked on mothercare and didn't realise how much bottles now cost- i'm sure they weren't that much when i had DD 4 years ago! Milk bags might be the cheaper option...

daizydoo · 06/03/2009 16:06

Bantam - so glad everything is well and hope it stays that way!
