Calico1 - your DH would like it here in Spain as that's exactly how the father is treated still. In the relatively modern and progressive hospital (yes really) we were first attached to there was a smoky cafe bar in the actual hospital where the fathers could go (in fact anyone could go) which also had a full range of spirits, beer, wine etc lined up along the wall. Fathers are not expected to play any part in the birth - alot of hospitals ban them - we had to hunt around to find someone that would DP play any part.

Cocodrillo I'm recycling the ones from last time as have them in about 6 different sizes! The ones I'm taking in hosp though are the elle macphereson ones - Maternelle. It depends how big your norks are as they only go up to a f/g cup (I think?) but are really comfy and the material is stretchy enough to accommodate the milk overload! Then when I get home I will try on my 40 different bras until I find the size that fits

MS can you do that already (impressed face)

What's everyone's opinion on taking paracetamol regularly at this stage of pregnancy? I'm in a lot of pain with backache (upper back rather than lower so not a labour sign, and spreading down my upper arms - I've had back problems on and off for years and it's decided to rear its ugly head again in the past couple of days) and paracetamol relieves it pretty well. It'll be very quickly relieved by a physio session but I won't be able to have that until the baby's born. So in the meantime the only way to get relief (and sleep) is through the paracetamol. I've had a look on a few websites and most say it's ok to take it up to the max dose of 8 in 24 hours but some say that taking it regularly at this stage of pregnancy could increase the chances of the baby 'wheezing' as he grows up. Is anyone else taking it regularly?

spottyshoes · 31/01/2009 13:35

LMN - Just noticed you FB status. So sorry it's not 'it', hope you are ok?

spottyshoes · 31/01/2009 13:36

Okaaaay - the slow typist has just noticed you posted on here too

Cocodrillo · 31/01/2009 13:53

mumoverseas I really feel for you. Your medical professionals sounds awful.

mumoverseas · 31/01/2009 14:31

professionals? DH and I have agreed to try to keep calm until Tuesday and then call the consultants bluff if he tries the old cash in envelope one with us and tell him we are not paying and he had better find someone else (with 5 days notice) to do the CS. We will also make it clear to everyone in my DH's company (VERY big employer out here) that he is a con artist and no one should use him again.

QK, ref paracetamol, I've got really bad back pain and SPD and a few weeks ago my consultant confirmed I could take paracetamol every 4 to 6 hours daily with no probs for baby. (mind you, the little git is probably in league with the paracetamol manufacturers out here and is getting commission ) Seriously though, I'm sure you will be fine.

LMN, sorry it was a false alarm but like you say, not long til Monday and at least you know it will be free!

Off for a bath/season 6 24(again) and bed. Hope to see some new arrivals when I check in tomorrow morning

MrsY · 31/01/2009 14:41

Just a quick post to mark.

Thanks for the advice on the other thread. Things look much better this morning!

LMN - sorry to hear the latest, but as you say, it's only till Monday.

QK - my midwife told me I'm silly not to be using paracetamol regularly, especially as it's the sort of painkiller that needs to be taken as a course (like anti-b's) as it just doesn't work if you use it sporadically. Also, at max you'll only be using it for a week or two (you're nearly 40 weeks, aren't you?) so the risk of wheezing etc is very, very slim. Far better that you are relaxed, comfortable and can get a good night's sleep at this stage of the game.

Calico1 · 31/01/2009 14:42

MamaGoose I think I'll keep that quiet from DH or else he might suggest a quick 'holiday' in Spain.

LMN - sorry to hear that but not long to go - you can count down the hours now!

spottyshoes · 31/01/2009 14:49

I'm rather jealous it's evening for you MOS. It's not even 3pm here and I need to go to bed for the night

idontbelieveit · 31/01/2009 16:35

thanks for all the lovely comments about the pics

LMN - sorry you have a weekend of waiting. Good luck for monday.

QK - i had back upper back pain i think from lugging my toddler about and had to take paracetamol regularly for the last few weeks. It's one of the tried and tested safe things for pregnancy, it's been around forever so i wouldn't worry about taking it at all.

Questionkid · 31/01/2009 17:51

Thanks for the responses about paracetamol, you've made me feel much better about taking it, especially as I was so uncomfortable I had to take another dose about 10 mins after posting. You're right Mrsy, I'm 40 weeks in a few days so taking it for the next week or so can't do any harm. I do like to make sure my MN pals think things like that are ok tho. Hopefully another dose before I go to bed tonight will help me get a good night's sleep for the first time in about 3 days.

MOS - I can't believe the hassle you're going through with your surgeon, makes the good ole NHS not seem quite so bad...It sounds like you know what you're doing to get it sorted though, you go and kick some ar*e!

littleboyblue · 31/01/2009 17:53

Evening all.
MoS Can't believe what's happening for you out there, and I think I've had it bad..... Poor you.

QK I don't like to take any kind of medication on a regular basis so have tried to stay away from paracetamol, but have been popping it every 4-5 hours for the past few days. I've also been told there's no harm/affect on the baby, o take it if you need it. It's ibuprofen that's not safe I think.

I can't be arsed to post this on baby names so I'll ask you lot.....,
Ds's middle name is John because it's dp's middle name, his dad's middle name and my dad's middle name so it kind of brought both sides together iyswim. I'd like Luke to have a special middle name too and thought Alan would be nice as it is dp's dad's name but also my surname, so again brings in both sides of the family. My issue is my surname is spelt Allen, so do I use that spelling and risk people thinking he's double-barrelled or use Alan so we've just named him after grandad, who by the way doesn't seem too bothered about keeping in touch (haven't had 1 phonecall or anything in 18m to see how ds is).

LittleMissNorty · 31/01/2009 18:10

Hello all

IDBI - lovely pics

In your position LBB - especailly with a grandad that didn't keep in touch, I'd go the Allen route....strange isn't it how people are so disinterested sometimes

QK - paracetamol is fine...I've just been prescribed co-drydamol....doing bugger all though, and still contracting / BHicking every 10 minutes....tis blardy sore

The Saudi system never fails to amaze me MOS...so on your behalf....

Sounds like you've had a lovely day Rosie.....Happy Birthday

Right, DH is snoring....off to supervise the wrecking of the front room by DD

littleboyblue · 31/01/2009 18:16

Thanx LMN, that's what I'm thinking, just don't want people to think he has a double surname and ds doesn't.....Also means Luke's initials will be LAP..so not sure on that either!

Also, those of you getting presents for dc's from the new baby, do you wrap them?

McDreamy · 31/01/2009 18:23

Happy Birthday Rosie

Just got back from hospital as I had some really bad scar pain this afternoon Anyway was all checked over and reassured that the risk of rupture outside of labour is almost non existent. SO we're back home now and feel reassured but still sore

thehouseofmirth · 31/01/2009 18:49

LBB I'd go for Allen too. Wouldn't worry about surname confusion.

Present wrapping I'd say depends on your DS' interest in unwrapping. If he's not that bothered about unwrapping stuff then I wouldn't bother. Baby FC is giving DS a castle which we are not wrapping and due to its size I'll leave at home until we're all there but we've also bought a couple of knight figures which are wrapped in my hosiptal bag so that when DS comes to see him Baby FC can give him those.

I am totally exhausted. Trouble is I only relise how tired I am when I sit down so I STILL haven't learned to pace myself. Looked after DS all morning while DH slept in, went out to do food shopping while DH gave DS his lunch then took DS to the birthday party from hell this afternoon. I volunteered for all of this now I feel tired, grumpy and more than slightly resentful of DH.

Have cheered myself up somewhat by compiling ga list of foods I am going to scoff when Baby C finally emerges:

Brie
Camembert
Unpasteurised mozzarella
Parma ham
Salami
Lots of other cured meats
Roll mop herrings
Marinated anchovies
Pate
Smoked salmon and mackerel
Mussels
Champagne

I am sure there must be more...

thehouseofmirth · 31/01/2009 18:51

McDreamy sorry you were worried about your scar pain. I thought the risk of rupture even during labour is only 0.3%? Which is quite a reassuring figure, isn't it

mslucyisbeached · 31/01/2009 18:54

I want sushi and rose cava.

drools

McDreamy · 31/01/2009 18:55

Think you are right HOM but it was soooooo painful earlier I didn't know what to do with myself. Has calmed down a bit now. Reg was lovely and said if it persists or get worse to come back in and they will deliver me!!!

thehouseofmirth · 31/01/2009 19:01

McDreamy I was actually thinking as I was typing that it's all very well knowing about that statistic but if you are in pain it's probably not much comfort all!

I am wondering (well hoping, really) if my ongoing craving for sweet sherry will disappear as soon as I am actually allowed to have some?!

McDreamy · 31/01/2009 19:03

Take a bottle in with you just in case it doesn't go

PinkTulips · 31/01/2009 19:08

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

seriously , how hard could it be to construct a DIY hookie thing to break the waters? that would get his lazy little arse moving wouldn't it......

MOS on your behalf that a so called professional is allowed to behave like that, hopefully he won't mention it on tuesday and you can just refuse to pay afer the fact.... arsehole!

sorry your having such awful BHs LMN.... although if it makes you feel any better my old gp used to refuse to call them BHs, he called them contractions the whole way through the preg. always makes me feel a little better to think of them in that sense.... they might not be labour contractions but they're still contractions and are doing something, however minute!

can someone link to mrys thread as i've lost the link on the last thread..... stoopid slow internet connection!

LittleMissNorty · 31/01/2009 19:24

Oh McDreamy....sounds painful. I had an ultrasound this afternoon to check my scar is all ok - did they do that?

They delivered my sister at 39 weeks as well after she complained about scar pressure...

Hope it calms down

I'm still going every 10 minutes here

thehouseofmirth · 31/01/2009 19:33

here you go PT
