Well ladies I put DD in her room for a nap then dozed a little myself. The rule is sleep or play quietly. I could hear her from time to time soooo assumed she was playing quietly. Decided to get up when she opened her door and went to the bathroom. She looked very surprised to see me and when I walked in her room I figured out why. She had climbed to the top of her closet, pulled down all her board games AND HER PAINTS. The right side of her bed, her piano, her Hello Kitty lamp, two stuffed animals and one baby doll were all a mix of colors. No paint brushes were used, mind you. Calling on all my ZEN INNER BEING, I told her to go pee then put her head down for a nap. She did as I commanded while I wiped down things. Again I ask......WHY AM I HAVING ANOTHER?

LOW, I'm having pressure downstairs too. Is that the baby's head settling into place maybe??

As for lap sitting.....that's one of many things I've decreased. No more picking up, no more rough housing, no more racing (my kid things everything is a race). When she complains I just point to my belly and say, "See this." And she goes, "OOOHHH yes." Then usually she just rubs my belly and kisses it and moves on with her business.

TS . DS2 has smeared poo all over the downstairs toilet wall today. I have removed the toilet brush from the room, sworn a lot (inwardly), and will be getting out the grown up paint tomorrow. And this little one makes three... .

TwilightSurfer · 24/06/2008 21:32

"Alma Hutchens (Indian Herbology) says raspberry leaf tea "can be taken freely before, during and after confinement, rendering parturition less laborious." Regular drinking throughout pregnancy strengthens and tones tissues, helping contractions and checks hemorrhage during labour. A perfectly safe drink (unlike black tea or coffee which contain caffeine) raspberry tea also enriches milk and helps prevent miscarriage." More here just scroll down the page a bit.

sorry sazzles, off to france next Friday (hooray!!) - back on 14th. Happy to continue if you are up for it, or to look at sometime around 18th instead?

poppysocks · 24/06/2008 21:39

Ooh dear ataraxis. Poor you. Not nice!

Glad you've gathered some good advice Dizzy. Hope it's putting your mind at rest a bit.

DD just about still fits on my lap, but have been trying to get her out of expecting me to carry her since I found out I was pg. Doesn't always work, but DH has been great at carrying her when she needs and is around and explaining each time that I can't. Given that one of her big whines is when I won't pick her up, hate to think what it'll be like when DD2 has arrived. Oh well.

dizzydixies · 24/06/2008 21:41

ataraxis France is closed - has nobody told you

am off to get my feet rubbed ladies so will talk to you tomorrow

TwilightSurfer · 24/06/2008 21:42

Hmm.. at loads of pineapple, drank buckets of raspberry leaf tea and even tried sex. Both of mine started after long walks...

I have heard that they are going to open France up again, just for me... can't stop being excited at the thought of sitting down at night with nothing to do. Night dizzy.

ataraxis · 24/06/2008 21:50

sazzles, if you are sure you still want to meet him, sounds like a very sensible plan indeed!

Buckets, DH and I are sitting here going through baby girl names and it occurred to me that KJ is a nice nickname similar to KC and KG. If you like it ...here's some suggestions:
Jacob
Jaiden
Jared
Jarrett
Jonathan

Looking at boy names gives my mind a break from all the girl names that are really beginning to run together. So far DH has offered the following choices:
Mariah (makes me think of Mariah Carey)
Jessa (i have a cousin named Jessica)
Vanna (makes me think of Vanna White, game show personality)
Lauren (i have a cousin named Lauren)
Melissa (my best friend's name)
Looks like this is going to be an uphill battle!!

Hi,

Sorry but the brain can't catch up with who asked what on names but I think someone was asking for some boys names from here. Unfortunately a lot of the guys seem to stick to their Chinese names rather than adopting English ones but we do have:

West, Raymond, Selwyn, Ernest and Earnest,Eugene, Stanley, Oscar, Kelvin, Howard, Ricko, Rons, Phoenix (thought this might be after River but he is about 60), Vian and Angus.

My favourite has to be Randy Stanley though.

DD sorry to hear about the GD. Sarah hope you are feeling better too.

pregnancy1 · 25/06/2008 08:20

Morning,

I cannot believe how long it's taken me to catch up! I am shattered and suffering from achy legs all the time, but other than that doing well. Have worked out I prob have over 5 weeks of work left.... not sure how that will work?! I'm consoling myself with the fact that first babies are nearly always late, so that will still give me 2-4 weeks of ML before she arrives (!!!?!!). Got my second NCT class tonight - keep your fingers crossed that I don't have to watch a video (have spent my life to date avoiding seeing another woman giving birth and don't want to start now - happier in my ignorance....

cyteen · 25/06/2008 08:37

Don't worry pg1, they shouldn't make you watch any videos. Our NCT teacher simply said there was one we could borrow if we wanted. No one did

Buckets · 25/06/2008 09:39

Dizzy, Banana Date Flapjacks - sugarfree. I've made these and they are surprisingly yummy (and easier to make than normal flapjacks.) Another way to get more fruit in you.

bealcain · 25/06/2008 09:40

Buckets, i want to come to your house...you're always beking and i've messed up dinner 2 days running

just a bit of a question off topic...is anyone else planning on cooking/eating their placenta?

cyteen · 25/06/2008 09:45

Not me, but then I'm not a natural meat eater at the best of times - only started again after many years of flesh-free dining because this bloody baby made me crave steak So the thought of eating my own meat is a step too far, I'm afraid.

CaptainCaveman · 25/06/2008 09:59

Good grief - I reckon that must be about 200 posts in the past 24 hours . We'll need a new thread everyday when we are all on mat leave!

I'm having my hair cut and coloured today - yippee. Am starting to look like an 80s throwback with great big Farah Fawcett flicks going on (growing short hair out atm).

For those of you who facebook....dh has added some 'delightful' photos to his albums - assume you can see them through looking at my fb profile?

dizzy sorry to hear about your GD - it really is a case of 'everything in moderation' (trust me, I'm a nurse ) rather than gung-ho alteration of your lifestyle. Basically your pancreas is still producing inuslin but not enough to cope with the demands your body is making on it. Usually the insulin attaches itself to glucose, and then receptor cells in the body take them in and dispose of them through our excretory system. With GD, in addition to not quite having enough insulin, the receptor cells which normally take in the sugar/glucose which floats around in our blood, decide that they no longer recognise the insulin and so start to 'resist' absorbing it. You end up with too much sugar floating around in your blood = diabetes. Ta-da. It does usually disappear after the pg ends though, although the docs should warn you to get checked regularly for the next 5 to 10 years. Unmanaged diabetes is a real health risk - the sugar damages smaller blood vessels. However, you are near the end of your pg and simple quick changes will very quickly bring down your blood sugar levels. The good news is you can still enjoy a white magnum, just perhaps not every day!

poppysocks · 25/06/2008 09:59

No, no, no plans to eat the placenta here. Would be mildy interested to see it though... DH was stunned at its size last time.

cyteen - friend abandoned 20 years of vegetarianism when pg and has never gone back. Must be a genuine need for iron.

cyteen · 25/06/2008 10:08

That's what I thought poppy, so I wasn't that bothered by eating meat on the grounds that my body probably needed something from it. Not sure if I'll continue post-birth though as the flesh does still freak me out a little bit, although DP is keen

Expectant · 25/06/2008 10:16

Not for me either.

Anyone going to save cord blood? Not something I'd really thought about but had leaflet shoved into my hands last week when at the hospital. Also if anyone is what is the cost so that I can get a comparison.
