We got something about this last time and I think it was somewhere around the £1,000 mark so we didn't do it!

Buckets · 25/06/2008 10:33

I'd love to donate cord blood but it's only done in about 2 hospitals in the whole country at the moment.
Never felt the urge to eat placenta (first one went off for local research survey anyway.) Might get DH to take a pic this time though (not such a good view from the op table.)

Expectant · 25/06/2008 10:35

Thanks poppy. Here it seems to be more like $1000 (about GBP350) but still a lot if I'm not 100% convinced.

ataraxis · 25/06/2008 11:38

vg, just popping in to say I have been reading up a lot about marjoram oil, and whilst it does say it is a good snoring cure, there is also lots of 'avoid during pregnancy' advice. Not sure of what the implications are, but just wanted to let you know.

dizzydixies · 25/06/2008 12:05

thank you CC I appreciate it - may I just say how swishy you're looking today too!!

had a strange day in dixie household, kids up and dressed and sitting at breakfast table when we realised it was infact only 6.20am lol sent dh off with them to tesco so I could go back to bed and he could drop them at nursery for 8am - must have fallen asleep straight away as I didn't hear him come in and come back to bed!

slept till 11am, sat down in front of TV to eat my fitness (halo emoticon) and switched on what I thought was Philip and Fern only to be face with testicles right in the middle of the plasma wide screen - just about died - checked what station I was on and it WAS this Morning doing some medical piece on testicular cancer and showing how to do a check properly

now am all in favours for removing taboos associated with such things as its SO important but serisouly I was looking forward to my fitness

got dd1's' last swimming lesson this afternoon and then meeting friend quickly before she jest off to Florida for 6 wks with her 5yr/3yr and 5wk old dc

hope its less bloody rainy where you all are today

sarahnh · 25/06/2008 12:17

Hey everyone,

an new thread and so many posts to check up on.. wow we do like to talk but i love it!!

Big hugs to dizzy....

Well i am still very spotty and have a wicked sore throat but am now allowed piriton and it keeps knocking me out!!! It is pure bliss, i cannot remember the last time i managed to get to sleep so quickly...

I am really starting to panic now that i have done nothing for this new dd... room not painted, things not bought, hospital bag not packed... is anyone else as unorganised as me??xxx

dizzydixies · 25/06/2008 12:22

me sarahnh completely disorganise, can't even get into room which will BE the nursery and I have visitors coming next weekend to stay for dd1's 5th birthday

don't panic, just relax and recover and remember to keep your fluids up

{{hugs}}

cyteen · 25/06/2008 12:26

Don't worry sarahnh, I've done nothing either. Get paid tomorrow so will start the buying of hospital bag supplies then, plus we're going to visit SIL at the weekend to pick up mountains of boy baby clothes - this represents the most concerted effort either of us have put in, I think!

dizzy have some tea and cake and put your feet up. I know GD is a bummer but as wiser ladies than me have already said, it doesn't need to be a massive problem management-wise. My dad has type 2 diabetes and manages it very well with diet, despite being a rather rotund gentleman. Hopefully your healthcare types will be able to offer lots of good support and help you decide what is best for you

I have got scorching heartburn today Who would have thought muesli and banana could be such a bringer of evil?

TwilightSurfer · 25/06/2008 12:41

Morning ladies. I must sadly admit this was not the first thread I came to this morning. Last night I was drawn into a murder mystery elsewhere on MN. Some of you know the one I'm speaking of because I saw your names amongst the other rubber neckers. Thankfully the story concluded today.

Captain, good medical advice there. Thanks for being able to properly back me up with Dizzy.

No eating of afterbirth bits here. GROSS! Core blood saving is a BIG thing though but sitll too expensive to consider personally.

I have no plans for today. Maybe I'll get some housework done. Maybe I'll just sit on the sofa with DD and watch Charlie & Lola all day. Who knows.

OP posts:
poppysocks · 25/06/2008 12:49

I'm off work this morning and was casually ironing, whilst watching Phil and Fern (in lieu of the walk I'd planned thanks to the damned rain) and was similarly at the sudden appearance of close up bollocks when I looked up from the ironing board, Dizzy.

Now just having a quick cuppa before collecting DD from nursery. She's tantrum-tastic at the mo and have an afternoon without a. the option to go out due to rain and b. a supermarket shop looming. Oh joy.

Sarah - glad you're getting some good sleep at least. I've done virtually nothing either. In fact, positively ignoring the small pile of stuff I've started to accumulate in the spare room. Hoping that after I get through this weekend, with last big work thing, it might start to sink in...

longwayfromhome · 25/06/2008 13:37

Hello all,

Sorry to jump in with a slightly negative comment about private cord blood banks, and of course it is a personal choice for each family, but well, here goes with a couple of thoughts for people who are thinking about it ...

Here is a slightly dry document about cord blood storage - it sounds like it is recommended for public donation, but that the uses for private cord blood banking for personal or family use are limited - for example it couldn't be used to treat leukaemias in later life etc. as the disease cells would already be present at birth. Wikipedia is never a great source of information on controversial isses, as the articles keep on being revised by disagreeing sides, but it has some more information.

Very sorry to hear about the diabetes and the pox.

Aha, I too saw the aforementioned testicle...(there was only one as the poor chap had had one removed due to testicular cancer) - but, I was forewarned. I like watching This Morning, purely because Phil & Fern try so hard to be serious when they just want to laugh.

Well, do you like the new hair? I'm liking the darker colour of it - it's kind of a mid-brown now as opposed to the sun-lightened dark blonde it was

Glad to hear piriton is working for you sarah. Don't bother getting anything ready for baby's arrival. If you intend to breastfeed all you need post delivery is some loft insulation for your pants, washable breast pads and perhaps a nappy and sleepsuit for bubs. Jobs a good un.

It's a bit windy in Notts today.....if you catch my drift

Nice hair cc! I must get mine cut again before baby comes. had it done about 3 weeks ago, but want it nicely short so that I don't have to worry for a good few weeks after baby is here. THEN when baby is here and I have time need to escapeI'll treat myself to highlights. mmmm. It's been 10-11 months since I last had highlights doen so I think I'm practically back to my normal boring brown, without the streaks, colour

Just dropped dd at rainbows. I've wimped out of being there again. Thee are 3 other leaders, and frankly I do not have the energy to run around 11 little girls -esp as dd plays up when I'm there, which isn't fair on me, her or he others.

cc - can i join you in windy willows? I'm in a perpetual state of wind emission atm .

Had 2 rests and a puking session today. Not happy. Dh is out tonight at a service - though only over at church so not far - which means I'll have to do bedtime. Hoping he'll still managed bathtime.

dizzydixies · 25/06/2008 16:46

am ideas as to WHY am so farking shattered all day, I mean I went back to bed just after 7am and slept till 11am so have not exactly exhausted myself

you'll all be thrilled to here dd1 passed this stage of her swimming lessons and is now a fully fledged Crab!!!

still absilutely chucking it down with us so thank goodness for soft play centre for a wee while after swimming this afternoon

ALBS thats not good, was it a ramdom vom or have you eaten something thats disagreed with you?

alittlebitshy · 25/06/2008 16:51

Well dizzy I think the answer to your question is beacuse you're pregnant and have a little blighter darling sucking all your energy out of you.

That's my theory anyway.

Was a random preggy vom. since about 25 weeks i've have a random vom every 2-3 weeks, but over the last week it's been every few days better than several times a day as at the beginning though. Still feel dreadful though - can't WAIT for this baby to be born so that I don't feel permanaently sick. Oh and heartburn, rib ache, wind, general ickiness.....

dizzydixies · 25/06/2008 16:55

oh thats pants, I've felt better since switching to grazing small more frequent snacks rather than main meals - have you tried that?

although its chucking it down here its also VERY close which I find saps my energy too

Buckets · 25/06/2008 16:57

Sigh. I've got a different set of pains this afternoon, not the SPD central-front-and-back ones, today I have the righthand-front-and-back pair of pains that made me sob at the MW last week and raised my BP. 2 paracetamol an hour ago have done nought so just running a nice hot bath. Baby is going crazy so not worried about him, and took my BP at my mum's this morning and that was fine.

dizzydixies · 25/06/2008 17:01

oh buckets do you have a heat pad maybe that would help?

Pain all gone for the moment, thanks to bath, hurrah! Had to put up with DD narrating her tricky poo attempt next to me the whole time mind.
I am v proud of both my kids for eating salad today (and myself for actually making a salad dressing they both actually liked.) It had beansprouts, apple, bacon, sweetcorn, coriander (breakthrough on the Indian food front!!!), mayo, yoghurt, soy sauce and cheddar. Sounds weird but was delish.

TwilightSurfer · 25/06/2008 18:12

Goodness!! What's wrong with you bunch? We are amazing pregnant ladies in the last few weeks of glory. Our hair should be perfectly done, our smiles bright, our spirits high.

Can't help but try.........

Windy is my new name. Just walk in front of me as we travel the last leg of this journey.

I had cabin fever so loaded up DD and head to town. Bought some stamps, visited the library where we picked out a ton of books, and finally we stopped by a store that is going out of business [two bump considerate dresses, two shirts and one skateboard (for DD)]. I also took DD for a little bite to eat. She was so good with her bagel, cream cheese, grapes and choc milk. Me....it was breakfast #3 for me....one cinnamon roll and a bottled water.

Dresses are bump considerate not maternity. They'll be perfect again next summer for romping around in the sun. Just couldn't pass up a SALE. That would be WRONG!! Baby's got something else in there, agreed. She also was a little miffed when DD & I started dancing around to the Rock Lobster (B-52s) earlier.

Buckets that mix did sound quite tasty. DD likes salads, a trait she gets from ME not her father.

I've just popped some popcorn and I'm heading outside (where it's 88 degrees) to rock for a while.
