carpet fitter is coming here at 11am so venue=my house. i'll email and text you both the address. hope this is still ok

hello everyone else, just cooking dinner at the mo, but i'll be back for a catch up later

oopsacoconut · 03/07/2008 21:27

Sorry Sazzles, we had one at work (they bought a new one for each child) and they were used once to wash kids then we found them very useful for building odd shaped sandcastles!

OOOOH yes and an electric stertliser ( but only if exclusively breastfeeding!)

PetitFilou1 · 03/07/2008 21:29

Ah Sazzles but I bet you didn't get up in the night to boil fresh water to put on the cotton wool every time your lo needed his nappy changing (oh yes we did) and THEN to top this insanity off dh used to put cold water from the tap in to cool it down which clearly made the water unsterile again. I still wonder what possessed two educated people to act in this way. And we changed him every time I fed him throughout the night instead of waiting for a poo.

Oh those precious first born moments. Ds2 on the other hand will doubtless have a hardy immune system and a squishy nappy

pertelote · 03/07/2008 21:38

Sympathy to Buckets and Chacha, and anyone else who's stressed/sore today...

Sazzles, my work at least managed flowers but then I'd baked them a cake so I should jolly well think so! Worked late to get everything finished and then had to ring DH to rescue me at the station because I was so exhausted I couldn't carry all the rubbish I'd cleared out of my desk...
Very pleased to be finished, it does make me realise that I really am going to have a baby sometime soon though!

Sazzles just have to comment on "no one touching your desk for 15 months last time".... I was gone maybe six weeks, returned to train a few folks on something and found my desk (AND COMPUTER) had been taken over by three or four other people. NONE of my shortcuts (or hidden snacks) could be found.

Sazzles I'm surprised that thing doesn't make most children run screaming for the hills - who invented that - someone on acid?!

Sazzles how did you find that - or shall i not ask?

pertelote · 03/07/2008 22:24

Ah, we have appointed a replacement for me and there certainly isn't anywhere else for her to sit... Just hope she'll be able to make sense of my filing 'system' and rather hurried handover notes!

PS - just noticed that rather a senior colleague has signed my card. 'Have a lovely baby' is his message.

a lovely baby - as opposed to what? a great ugly baby?

oopsacoconut · 03/07/2008 22:30

aaah it all makes sense now Sazzles.

Buckets · 03/07/2008 22:31

Back from NCT class with a new suggestion for hospital bags for those doing it the traditional way: a McDonalds thickshake straw! Apparently they are good for breathing through during contractions, esp to slow your outbreaths, and consequently chill you out and help you cope with the pain instead of trying to run away from it. God I wish I had taken these classes first time round, I have such a different idea of childbirth now I understand the science of it - it was all superstitious placebo nonsense to me before!

Sazzles, my biggest PFB symptom was spraying and wiping the changing mat after every change! Lasted a week or two I think.

goodnight all

ChaCha · 04/07/2008 03:19

Just had to be the first to post today ladies, so here i am! NOT! Anyone around? DH brought me home some lovely food, we did the bedtime routine and all fell asleep. Woke up at 1.15am and have been up ever since. Have since been sick and had a bath and no way i'm getting back to sleep... I so remember this in the last few weeks with DS2 now.

Pertelote - Yay on last day of work! DH's can be v.useful when we need rescued as i witnessed earlier in day.

Sazzles - Loving your 'essentials' links.

When DS1 arrived I kept a record of what his nappies were like on a white board in the kitchen at what time, content etc.. something to do with b/f and was he filling 5 nappies a day - i think i thought it was necessary to have this info to hand. It took me to have dream baby DS2 to realise how hard i found DS1 in the first few months.

anyone going to start a new thread? Is taking ages to flip.

3.20am, right...off to read the headlines!

TwilightSurfer · 04/07/2008 03:23

A brilliant idea struck me moments ago so I've popped back on here (while ya'll are sound asleep) to share. I think I'm going to where my bikini into the hospital when the birthing process starts. I'll throw a coverup over it, of course. But that just seems smart. The top ties in two places so it can easily be removed if major surgery is required but it will cover my boobs otherwise so I don't have to show the world my upper goods...since my lower goods will be all exposed for the duration. Plus I can get in and out of the shower without issue (and the suit dries fast) if I want...this was a suggestion offered by the tour guide on Tuesday. It's easy to wash. It goes nicely with flip-flops and a pony tail AND I can add a pair of big shades and folks might think I'm a celebrity.

Buckets, grand idea with the straws. They're also nice to have just to sip your melted ice with.

Insider tip: I snuck pedialyte into the hospital during my last birth and added it to my ice cup when the nurses weren't looking. It kept my blood sugar levels from dropping so I felt better when the action started PLUS it really keeps you hydrated.

Sazzles, Zen doesn't even begin to describe the day today. I kept classical music on all day and just floated throught the day. I put on a very comfortable LONG flowing tube-top dress which actually made me feel quite POSH, Victoria that is. I just needed to take a break from all my pregnancy concerns.

Another nice surprise today was a mutual agreement on a "possible" first name for babytwilight.....Reese. It's not Maggie but it works well with DDs name and I don't think it's too bad. It's Welsh, I believe. Anyway, if we hold tight to Reese then the middle name becomes the issue. I don't want her to have initials like ROC, RAC, RIC, etc. so I have to find a non-vowel, two to three syllable name. DH added that he'd like it to be family related in some way because DDs middle name is. She shares my grandfather's and greatgrandfather's middle name. Since I was so relaxed I called my MIL and enlisted her help but explained I could not divulge the first name we were looking at. I didn't want to jinx anything. She offered a few good family names but plans to email a list later...or tomorrow. We shall see. I'll keep everyone posted.

As for USELESS baby things, I'll second whoever mentioned the baby wipes warmer. Mine was a shower gift and WAS NEVER even taken out of the box. I would like to add the diaper genie to the list as it's a pain in the >>bleep

ChaCha, sorry you're up dear. I've been waking at 3am for weeks now. However it's only 10:30pm here now and I've not turned in yet. We'll probably start a new thread tomorrow evening or Saturday morning. Depends on the banter tomorrow. Hope you get some rest, even if it's with your eyes open.

Hey TS! Morning to you!
Reese/Rhys? Lovely name. We have a few Welsh Rhys's DH's side of the family.

TwilightSurfer · 04/07/2008 03:31

I've considered that RH spelling but DH like the "americanized" version. So do boys and girls both use it or is it primarily a boys name??
