Just getting on the thread

thegreenfairy · 10/06/2008 15:20

Posted this on end of the last thread. Hatch those babies ladies!
......

Afternoon all. Sorry not been on for so long. You can imagine I have my hands full!

josey am sending you and olivia positive vibes all the time. I do hope you get the MRI results today and some good news. Know what you mean about preggy faggers. Horrible horrible. DH and I thinking of your family and rooting for you all.

amberc re induction/ pools - I think it depends how you progress - worth finding out your hospital's policy on use of CTG as it may be they want to stick it on you all the time for an induction. You can refuse (they wanted to use it on my full time due to breech but I said no) but they do have to prepare the pool for you which makes it harder to insist on.

DH and I are slowly learning how to be parents and stay sane! We were certainly not prepared for what hard work it is, and how emotionally draining the first days are. Starting to feel normal after having the baby blues pretty badly from the day after my milk came in until about Saturday (four days). I have a WONDERFUL community MW - she is an utter angel and looked after me on day one of baby blues when Storm had been up all night and I was going insane.
Storm is wonderful and feeding like a trooper (often over an hour!) and was an ounce over her birth weight yesterday at eight days old.
My nipples are f*cked but I don't care!

Keep well all. Second round of love and hugs to josey before I go. You are an amazing woman.

systemsaddict · 10/06/2008 15:27

Update on the sickly SA household: I was still feeling really rough with cough yesterday, nauseous and exhausted. Suddenly realised at lunchtime baby had been really quiet (I've been wearing a foetal kick count bracelet since 40 weeks and she's normally done 10 by lunch, had only done one), so straight down to delivery suite for monitoring. Turns out I am actually unwell ... I had slight temp, bloods showed infection somewhere which we are assuming is the cough, and baby's heartrate was described as 'really very high'. Felt v. irresponsible having assumed all weekend I was 'just' feeling pregnant!

They put me up on the ward, fortunately heartrate and temperature settled down after paracetamol, fluids and an afternoon doing nothing on the bed, so managed to get home in time for ds' bedtime - under strict instructions to have lots of rest, fluids and 6-hourly paracetamol, so have been doing that today. Discussed anti-bs but there aren't many I can actually take and dr. agreed it is probably a viral cough anyway so we decided against for now.

Still feel quite rough - no appetite or energy - but temperature OK, baby moving and coughing subsiding with rest. Back at hospital tomorrow for antenatal clinic - this might affect my choices about induction though - don't know if baby is better off staying in another couple of days to give me a chance to get better, or better off coming out sooner. Terrible timing to get a cough!!

Dp still unwell and now incredibly stressed too; ds now on antibiotics and had seeping ear swabbed yesterday to check for nasties. Baby is going to need loads of colostrum to thrive in this germ pit ... (Essie I never leaked at all then had oversupply when my milk came in so don't worry!)

On plus side: had a small show Monday night and another small one this afternoon, so my recalcitrant cervix must be doing something right!

Thinking of Josey and family, good that Olivia is still making progress, wish we could do more for you all but hope that being a sounding board helps a bit.

Checking in on this thread!

Fungle posted the last message on the previous thread. I'd say go for it with highlights, because as long as it's not ammonia it's ok, right? (Also, a bit late to do any real damage now, surely? That's my attitude to drinking small amounts of alcohol ).

Upsidedowncake · 10/06/2008 15:37

just posting to say hello

ktpie · 10/06/2008 15:53

SA - hope you start feeling on the mend soon. Good that you have had a show. Tricky decision to make about induction (sorry I'm not much help!).

GF - good to hear from you, sounds like Storm is doing well! Glad you have a good midwife, must make all the difference.

Rolf · 10/06/2008 16:01

Poor you SA. Hope you get the chance to recover before having the baby.

GF - great to hear from you and glad you're feeling better.

Fungle - I have just had my hair coloured. THe hairdresser suggested not having highlights done whislt pregnant, just an all-over colour, so that's what I've had.

I'm hiding upstairs. Not sure where the children are. DH is home too (his trial settled - hurrah!). DD had a settling-in day at nursery today, for when she starts PT in September. I thought she'd be fine as she's v outgoing nad is used to leaving me, but she was very upset and cried for the whole house. There is just too much going on at the moment for her, I think.

PearTart - your DD is gorgeous . (obv you're lovely too!).

WIll leave the docks jokes after this - but I wonder if stevedores would count?!

PregnantPenguin · 10/06/2008 16:08

Hello Everyone - my blooming keyboard developed a fault so I could read posts but not type...!

As such, although I've read all your posts I can't remember them well enough to respond individually...sorry.

Josey - Hope you have received MRI results and are getting to hug Olivia more now.

Essie - Nothing at all from me, so am sending you some virtual magnum ice cream to keep us going. There 2-4-1 at Tesco's (along with the £1 pineapples that give me agonising indigestion!) so there's plenty for everyone else too!

Feeling suprisingly chilled today - don't know why after all the frustration of waiting. Treated myself to three benefit lip glosses for just £6 (free on the front of glamour magazine - thanks to offers thread!) and am off to read some real trash with a real magnum in the sunshine! Think I'll ignore the bikini diet article tho .

BTW found Alanis Morrisette on my ipod yesterday and thought it may be very appropriate for labour music! (I seem to be very nineties retro at the mo, it was Nirvana at the weekend).

sophiewd · 10/06/2008 17:08

SA - hope you all feel well soon, what a horrible end to a pregnancy.

Sponge - go get checked out, my MW said very sensible if have a headache and feeling sick and better safe than sorry.

Been to MW, everything OK but the big boy is measuring 41 weeks and 37+4, so unless it is a lot of water in there, he is on the large size.

SA hope you are soon on the mend. Not nice to be poorly at this stage of pregnancy.

looneytune I am 38 weeks. Midwife says it is not too late to discuss. Am having the risk assessment and home visit tomorrow so will know more after that. I suppose it is too late to organise a birthing pool?

dylansmumplusone · 10/06/2008 17:42

hi all. had nice afternoon in padding pool on balcony with ds splashing about in his birthday suit! feel a bit cooled off but our flat is a sauna so it won't last long!

GF glad to hear you're feeling better. i know just how you have been feeling though, was exactly the same with ds and it's a big comedown when those hormones go! it does get easier all the time.

systemsaddict sorry to hear you're poorly but sounds like you're being taken care of. lousy time for a bug tho. get lots of rest!

bun i ordered my birthpoolinabox and it arrived the next day! still haven't taken it out of the box though.

i have some definite downward pressure going on. please oh please let it happen tonight!!! [praying emoticon]

needahand · 10/06/2008 17:49

Hi everyone, just checking in. I have not had the baby yet (although no one seems to have notice I wasn't there anyway needahand feels unloved).

I have actually been sick as sh**t. Started feeling really unwell on Sunday after my aquanatal class and being sick like I was when I went in labour with DD. Was really hopeful as I had a little show on Saturday. But after 6 hours of being sick, I realise I was just...well sick and not having contractions and that it was only a bug. I was sick all night and yesterday and have only managed to get out of bed a bit today. I am gutted as this is really the last think I needed 11 days before due date!. And it is bad enough being sick when you have a lovely baby at the end of it, but it is worse when you don't. Now I just hope I will recover quickly as I feel so weak. This has completely floored me. And I hope I won't be sick when DS comes because I don't think I can cope with this much sickness twice in a fortnight! I had another little bit of show today but nothing else to report.

Congratulations to tasssisss and AH.

Loads of hugs to all those who are overdue. It isn't fun having people asking you all the time and checking on the baby's arrival.

Josey I am glad your daughter is improving. I keep thinking of you and hoping for more good news. And do scream away this is what we are here for.

My feet and hands are very swollen two and I am suffering from the heat. I do feel quite dehydrated and the bug made it worse as I couldn't even keep water down on Sunday and Monday.

I am all ready for the home birth. DH and I did a test run and inflated the pool on Saturday. With this weather being in the pool would be lovely.

looneytune · 10/06/2008 17:58

greenfairy - pleased you are starting to feel more normal, those first days after milk comes in can knock you for six can't they! Good you had a lovely midwife

systemsaddict - poor you, does sound like a right sickhouse Hope you all get well asap and you are better in time for lo's arrival.

Fungle - I had highlights a month or 2 ago, was told ok to use foils as doesn't touch the scalp. Hope you're happy with whatever you have done

bun2 - I'm due 2 days before you and only just got my hose etc. I was lucky enough to have been given a birth pool in a box (from the good birth company) from the mum of a mindee I look after. I only realised very recently that as it wasn't new, I needed a disposable liner. I ordered this from The Good Birth Company online. They say they deliver within a couple of days, you could always call and ask them if not happy with risking ordering online? That's if you want one of course. A lot of people say don't order til about 38 weeks anyway so I wouldn't say it's too late as such. Good luck with your home visit. I'm sooooo hoping I do get the home birth, quite excited about the birth this time round.

dylansmum - fingers crossed

Hi to everyone else

Posting to add this to my threads I'm on list...

greenfairy - re: nipples - are you using Lansinoh cream? It's the best for cracked and tormented nipples.

PearTart · 10/06/2008 18:03

Good luck to everyone having close-but-no-cigar symptoms. I keep missing the "ideal window" to start labour. (Why am I surprised that I can't control this?) Then thinking "Oh sod it, better have a last evening of relative freedom..." Which is usually nothing more exciting than usual.

Didn't EW start labour after threatening to go dry-skiing? Maybe I need to book a tango lesson or try ultimate fribee... Or just book the poshest, most expensive restaurant in town. (with my luck we'd end up going- and doing the washing up there!)

All suggestions welcome...

SA- I'm glad at least that you've been checked out and are taking care of yourself. I hope the well-fairy visits tonight.

Essie- I didn't get leaking nipples until after DD was born except for an occasion 2 weeks ago when I'd dropped a crumb down my bra and had been subconsciously scratching my itchy boob. Then I found a tiny bead of yellow on my nipple when I fished out the offending crumb!

Rolf- thanks!

looneytune · 10/06/2008 18:05

needahand - sorry you have been so poorly Hope you feel better soon and get some strength back ready for the baby coming. I know what you mean about the pool being lovely in this weather, I was thinking the same yesterday. Only thing concerning me about the home birth is that if it's daytime and very hot so needing windows open, I worry about the noise I'll make lol. We tested inflating the pool the other weekend but haven't bothered with testing filling it up. Are you going to? We just thought it will take as long as it takes and the main thing is knowing where we're putting it etc.

spongebrainbigpants · 10/06/2008 18:09

Hi guys, another thread!

sophie, thanks for the tip - sickness and headaches have now gone and mum is staying with me until Friday when I have my cons appt, so fingers crossed I'm stable for the moment (well, as stable as I can be!).

Sorry to hear some of you have been so unwell - the last few weeks/days of pg are difficult enough without bugs on top .

Still thinking of josey and hoping that she's been getting lots of cuddles with Olivia today.

bitofadramaqueen · 10/06/2008 18:15

Afternoon all, just getting this on my TIO. Been for afternoon tea and cakes with NCT group. 3 out of 7 have had babies - but the other three all due/overdue now, so I'll probably be weeks after everyone else Only realised this afternoon that 2/3 that have had their babies were actually due towards the end of June same as me. So now feeling sorry for myself.

Can also confirm that I'm not exaggerating re: my melting in the heat. While everyone else in my NCT group also struggling with the heat I was literally melting all over the table (melting sounds soooooo much better than sweating ). It's like being in a sauna. I'm hoping its kickstarting some weight loss

needahand and SA sorry that you have been poorly.

Right, my new phone has arrived so off to play with that.

bun2 · 10/06/2008 18:19

looneytune and dylansmum thanks for the tips/advice re homebirth/birthing pool. Will let you know what happens tomorrow.

Have been considering getting a birthing pool anyway and just lolling around in it - watching tv, etc. We have 2 showers and one bath in our house - the bath is quite narrow and not v. comfy and it is even a squeeze fitting into the shower cubicle these days.

needahand so sorry you have been so poorly. Can thoroughly commiserate because I have been so sick throughout this pregnancy. Luckily am only being sick in the mornings now. Hopefully you are on the mend. My friend went into labour 2 weeks early after suffering from a stomach bug - apparently it can bring on the contractions (all the pressure from the vomiting and retching apparently).

Does anyone know how much RLT I should be drinking?

Needahand- Big hug. I really feel for you with the sickness. It's bad enough when there's a new baby at the end of it, and it sounds as if you'd had some other positive signs. Do you have any homeopathic remedies? I've got ipecac. I really hope that you feel better soon/ the baby arrives.

bun2 - re RLT - my MW said 3 cups a day or 6 400mg pills a day.

Essie - My MW said I could get colostrum out if I wanted by expressing (she showed me how) but I haven't tried as I can't bring myself to do it (my due date is tomorrow!).

I want a birth pool in a box but I just want to fill it up with cold water and sleep in it or watch tv.
