dizzydixies · 11/04/2008 20:56

oh am so sorry it hasn't passed. have you managed to keep any food down?

alittlebitshy · 11/04/2008 21:03

yes have eaten my meals today but just feel queasy.

Most worried about tummy though

dizzydixies · 11/04/2008 21:07

well as long as you're managing to keep down your food and most esp liquids lets hope it all settles overnight and isn't anything sinister

take it easy tomorrow, am sure your friend will understand if you have to cancel

{{{loads of hugs}}}

longwayfromhome · 11/04/2008 21:22

ALBS, sorry to hear that you aren't feeling good.

VG, it must be really good to know that your work has been acknowledged. I gave up my job to get married and move here as DH has a good job here - I work a bit part time now, and am working towards revalidating my qualifications, but although I am happy, excited, amazed, really chuffed and a bit "how on earth did that happen?" about this baby I sometimes worry that it means more time away from work and career, that has already taken quite a hit.

Dizzy, sorry to hear that the midwife wasn't great. Do you have a scan before your next appointment?

And exciting news from this end of the earth (apart from the arrival of the olympic torch) is that everything went well at the scan today and we are expecting a boy!

PetitFilou1 · 11/04/2008 21:24

Hi all
ALBS You poor thing hope you are feeling better soon
dizzy lol at the 'I'm more tired than you, no I'M more tired than YOU' argument. I have been there a thousand times... Keeping quiet at the moment as dh is doing so much to the new house and although is away all the time I am very very grateful for it. And... he has finally agreed NOT to buy any interiors type stuff without my say so (this was a battle - does anyone else have a partner who actually cares about this stuff? I always thought that would be my area but he seems to have views which is highly annoying!)
TS Are you feeling less like a train wreck yet? Hope your dd is on the mend.
LoW Re the texting - I would stamp on that right now. If my dh had done that when I felt that vulnerable I would be fuming. Hope it is nothing but even so it is thoughtless at a time when you need him to really be there for you.

PetitFilou1 · 11/04/2008 21:32

CC Sympathies on the school front. I think ds may have got in to our local village school now but we did the continued interest list and the appeal letter so not sure which was the thing that worked yet. I'm still waiting for the paperwork though. I think it is worth appealing in any case.

longwayfromhome congrats on your boy. I'm counting down until my scan on Tuesday...

dizzydixies · 11/04/2008 21:38

LWFH lovely news on your blue bump - right lets get down to the name game

I have another hosp appt and scan in 4wks when am 28wks so she's no doubt happy enough to let the hosp get on with most of my care

petit he had another lie in today but was VERY useful all day bless him so can't really complain - I WILL but shouldn't really

CaptainCaveman · 11/04/2008 21:51

Great news for your scan lwfh, congrats on your little boy!!

VG - congrats on your work 'thing'. I know what you mean about falling off the radar - I'm missing out on a leadership development course, aimed at managers who would like to aim for senior public service management. However, I totally believe that everything happens for a reason so I trust God to provide for us. Only 15 weeks to until mat leave and I'm on holiday for 2 weeks of that - yippee!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone else is ok - I've sent a complaint to our school admissions team manager as the man on the phone today made me cry!!

OP posts:
longwayfromhome · 11/04/2008 22:16

Dizzy, thank you! I think that he will be called Tomás, although we will pronounce it Thomas. This is a kind of
compromise. The official spelling will be in Spanish but I will use the English pronunciation!

We like Alban for a middle name, but in Spanish it's Albano, which isn't very common (I know that the English version isn't really either!) also neither of our families apart from my mum have been very enthusiastic, so still thinking.

With regards to further suggestions ... we like names with Christian significance, saints etc. and versions in Spanish and English that are at least similar. (for example I like Paul a lot as a name, but I don't really like Pablo, which is the Spanish version).

Of course we may look at him after he is born, with a name all ready and realise that he should be called something else.

I'm not sure whether after all this waffle you will want to venture into this again, but all suggestions (particularly for middle names) are still very welcome!

P.S. CC, sorry to hear the man on the phone was so rubbish.

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 08:37

CC WHO made you cry, you tell us where he is

LWFH Tomas is lovely, I used to go out with a Tomar known as tom and always loved it, dh won't like it though because of that lol Alban is very nice too and has a lovely flow with Tomas - am not sure I could come up with anything better Paul in a more spanish context could be Paulo which is nicer than Pablo but nowhere near as nice as Tomas!

always willing to have a think though!!

was in bed just after 10pm, should have been earlier but sheer laziness stopped me going upstairs girls up just before 7am but had at least slept through and dh wandered in at 7.45 looking like death warmed up so he's away to bed after a cup of tea

overcast here but dry - will see what today brings

alittlebitshy · 12/04/2008 12:50

LWFH I thik Tomas Allban sounds and looks lovely. Out of curiosity, would the "normal" pronounciation of Tomas be more like toe-mass or am I just pulling that out of the air in a wierd accent ?

CC WHat was your phone conversatioj about? what did he say to make you cry. You go girl with that compalint!!!

DD I know what you mean about laziness stopping you going up to bed. Sometimes you can be so tired that actually getting up to bed is a struggle. lol.

We watched Wednesday's Apprentice, last night, but paused mid way so dh could phone a cousin in NZ to beg them to buy some flowers on our behalf for a family funeral over there. He had a nice chat, but realised afterwards that length of the call probably wiped out the benefit of getting them to get flowers locally rather than us paying extortionate overseas interflora prices .

Didn't make it to Bluewater and KK today My friend is now poorly. Her dp is too so they think it was their dinner. Which was only Homepride pastsa bake lol, so goodness knows what was off in that .

As a result i'm having a lazy day. Dh took dd out of a cup of tea and the park and he's gone off to church for an open day there, then he needs to write his sermon, so dd and i are pottering. She is vegged in front of cbeebies AGAIN. I feel bad, but normally she is at school so has limited tv time, plus it IS school hols, she's done loads this hols (this week alone she's been to ikea (lol she was excited- loves the play area), to Hampton Court aand to the zoo) so I'm not totally a bad mummy going to mummy hell am I? Plus i still feel ropey.

Need to get her to do more work on her homework though. still has weds up to now/tomorrow to write in her diary and a worksheet to do. oops.

VintageGardenia · 12/04/2008 12:57

LWFH fantastic news about your little boy. I love love love the name Tomas. When you posted that you liked Christian-related names I speed-read it that you liked Christian as a name - and I think it's a lovely one, is there a Spanish version Cristian with an accent on the second a (can't do them)? Would work in Eng and Spanish. I am notoriously rubbage at names though, no-one ever likes what I like (waaaaahhhhh! snotty sniffle...).

CC as the years roll fly past I am with you more and more on things happening for a reason.

My work is quite important to me because it's quite closely related to who I am and what I do and why I am the sort of person I am (that souns odd - I PROMISE it's nothing sinister like prison guard because spent time inside when a youth and now rehabilitated etc!! - more like work being an extension of my own pastimes) and I am very happy with it at the moment. I know when the baby arrives I'm going to be knocked out of my standing (as they say in Ire) and in a sort of whirl for at least a couple of months. I'm happy for that to happen and will be glad to give my whole self over to it. But I know that with the passage of time I will be thinking about work again - and I don't mean that because I'm looking to escape the nappy, feeding, burping, sicking, cooing, smiling, did-he-actually-just-roll-over phase. I work from home a lot so the burping etc can happen right here on my knee.

Oh I can't explain. But I feel I need to make a final push (ho-ho labour image) and go out with a bang ( ) so that they will all be super keen to give me my head again.

Oh confused post.

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 13:02

right VG you're going to have to
a. explain what it is you do
b.give us some examples of these names nobody likes

ALBS am sorry to hear you're still feeling ropey - hope a litte better than yesterday. mine have been colouring in, playing with playdoh and watching tv all day - they're dressed, I'm not and I did FAR TOO MUCH yesterday (am shouting at self there to make me realise am not completely out of woods and should not be being such a muppet )

VintageGardenia · 12/04/2008 13:09

Sorry guys just ignore that last post I was rambling.

So how about http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000MFQK3E/sr=1-2/qid=1208001657/ref=sr_1_2/026-2803119-3802841 ?ie=UTF8&mcb=core this pushchair - three wheeler, single bar handle (I need this as often have one hand holding dogs / DS hand / phone / gin / or on a good day DP hand! Somebody linked me once to a pushchair called Jane, it might have been the Cap'n or dizzy, but I can't find it, does that ring a bell for anyone?

Do you think a minimum list of gear, initially, would be:

few vests (I bought a 7 pack of plain whites, M&S fair trade - exciting - first purchase!)
few all in one suits
pushchair
car seat
moses basket w. mattress
blankets, sheets
few bottles
breast pump or more accurately [eek]
steriliser

Is that ridiculously minimalist?

My lovely mum has knitted a shawl, cardigan and hat already! I might knit something myself

VintageGardenia · 12/04/2008 13:11

Sorry, link done correctly ?ie=UTF8&mcb=core this pushchair

dd my career is not actually that interesting, that whole prison analogy may make people think it's spicy but it ain't!

Re. names it's DP who hates EVERYTHING I suggest.

VintageGardenia · 12/04/2008 13:12

AAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH

?ie=UTF8&mcb=core this pushchair

VintageGardenia · 12/04/2008 13:13

Feck it it looks wrong but clicks right.

I do a mixture of writing and teaching (she said vaguely).

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 13:15

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 13:16

johnson prams
I much prefered you as a sex chat/phone person which was where I was going would make a fortune with that lovely accent!!!

VintageGardenia · 12/04/2008 13:18

Yes, that's it. I think that's a better one cos it's got pneumatic tyres. And you are obv. happy with it.

It's blardy expensive gear, isn't it?

I mean the whole shebang.

VintageGardenia · 12/04/2008 13:21

dizzy! shocked emoticon. You envisaged:

"Ooooooh howrya, now tellus, is it a vicar or a garda you are, tellus the colour o' yer knickers and have ye the hairy beard or the shaven jaw, which is it now, ah begorrah I'm hot as hell and only dyin' for a shag off you?" at 2.50 a minute?

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 13:28

yes, its certinly not cheap - try ebay though you should be able to pick one up for a lot less

and yes, thats exactly how I imagined it

dizzydixies · 12/04/2008 13:30
