@foodislife1 no no no don't get me wrong, if bub had managed to latch correctly and I hadn't ended up with severe nipple damage I wouldn't have even thought about introducing a bottle yet!

I wasn't criticising at all, just saying I assume it was easier for me as she was given a bottle out of necessity early on. I'm also INCREDIBLY lucky, she isn't a fussy baby with feeding (unlike DD1 was). Boob, bottle, warm, ice cold, as long as there is milk she's happy!

foodislife1 · 25/12/2023 18:39

@JD90 I know :)
I regret not giving a bottle sooner. DC1 was a dream whereas this one is a little fussy it seems Smile

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 25/12/2023 21:40

Merry Christmas! Baby is 18 days old and still so in love with him. Introduced a dummy and he is so much happier and doesn't seem to be interfering with breastfeeding. Same brand and teat as the bottle we got so hopefully when I express he will take it 🤞.

Katiec1 · 26/12/2023 08:46

Merry Christmas to you all ☺️ thanks for the new thread, I haven’t been on as much as we have been so busy especially with it being Xmas time.

Quick question…is annyone else struggling to get their little ones into a routine? I remember with my other girls they were always on a great routine for feeds, sleep etc but I’m just finding with this little lady that she’s never on a schedule. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s Xmas and there’s so much going on or if it’s just the way it’s going to be with her 🙈

hope everyone is having a lovely Xmas so far ❤️

foodislife1 · 26/12/2023 21:25

@Katiec1
I've tried to get my almost 8 week old into a routine but have found it very difficult. Not sure if it's a growth spurt/cluster feeding but she's very fussy and doesn't always follow a 3hour schedule.
Hoping to try again once toddler is back at nursery

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 26/12/2023 23:56

My baby is much younger than most others on this thread as he kept us waiting, 19 days old.

I haven't even tried a schedule or routine. He's gaining weight really well, growing very quickly, and has past few days been sleeping in his next to me and will settle in his moses basket or lie happily with sensory toys alone. He seems happy and thriving so I'm trusting him to do what he needs. Yes he wants feeding every 2 hours at night, still cluster feeds sometimes etc but he's our first and we're not at work so I'm going with it for now.

Maybe when sleep regressions hit will be the time 😂

Thack · 27/12/2023 07:36

@foodislife1 I've only tried Tommy tippee so far. I need to try others.
I find bottles a pita so having to remind myself that it's an investment of time.

Our only routines center around the toddler. No nursery this week but bedtime process is in place, after that anything goes.

GreenAventurinee · 27/12/2023 12:39

Merry Christmas everyone. I’ve been quiet on here lately, lovely to read all your updates.

Baby girl was 8 weeks old on Xmas day and is amazing. She is sleeping 10.30 to 6-7 am, is smiling and is in love with her brother. She’s on 4 oz every four hours in the day, and is still quite windy, some days worse than others. She is still a diddy little thing, 7lb 14oz at 8 weeks, and still only in his new born clothes but she is feisty and when getting her nappy changed she’s earned the nickname scrappy do 🤣.

She is extreeeemley clingy in the day this past week, to the point where I can’t get anything done. She hardly goes ‘down’ on her playmat ot bouncer, and contact naps are a must, which I find strange as at night she goes down to sleep awake and is amazing from 10.30pm onwards.

But all in all, I’m still loving baby life 😍

GreenAventurinee · 27/12/2023 12:56

Random question alert… do any of your babies have brown eyes yet?

Thack · 27/12/2023 18:17

@GreenAventurinee still blue here but older sibling has blue eyes so they might not change for us at all.

Crazybrowncow · 29/12/2023 09:21

Morning all, does anyone know whether it's a bad thing to switch percentiles upward DC has moved from 75th to 98th. He's breastfed so I've just filled his cues.

Spareincoming · 29/12/2023 11:13

@Crazybrowncow Don’t worry about it! Two of mine went from 50th and 65th to 98th by 10
weeks and stayed there! They’re probably both still around the 90th mark now!
One health visitor commented on it, but she commented on EVERYTHING, no others said anything so I took it off my mental list of things to worry about!

For anyone who's having bottle issues, thought this might be useful.
It's suggested that you should use bottle and corresponding dummy from same company to train baby. Try not to use to many different types of bottles/teat shapes. Try giving bottle daily.
Best time to do it is once baby has woken from nap as will be hungry and most likely to accept.

Also, once dummy is in the mouth, try to gently pull it out - this will activate the sucking reflex in baby and they will work to keep it in. The idea is once baby is used to dummy they should adjust to bottle.
Oh and try and get someone else to give the bottle. If baby smells boob, they're less likely to accept!

We've seen early signs that little one might be open to bottle feeding ...hope that helps!!

BabyBabyBaby123 · 29/12/2023 16:38

@Crazybrowncow my middle DD, went from 6th when she lost lots of weight at birth due to jaundice up to 97th and has stayed up there, she will be 2 tomorrow and is a little (big) meatball!
DS on the other hand is still quite small and doesn’t seem to be making the same massive leaps up the growth chart that she did, but he is gaining and a good little feeder so I am feeling ok about his weight gain. He was 9lb 3oz when he was last weighed at 7 weeks.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 29/12/2023 21:55

Has anyone started their periods again yet?
I woke up feeling crampy this morning and have had some light reddish spotting throughout the day. DS is only 8 weeks old and I am exclusively breastfeeding, so I wasn’t expecting to see a return of my period so soon?
I didn’t restart until 6 months postpartum when ebf DD2, so was really hoping for something similar this time also.
I’m not sure if it is my period or just some last lochia, but the cramps are making me think period.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 29/12/2023 22:04

@BabyBabyBaby123 I'm only 3 weeks pp, bleeding stopped about a week ago (early but did have c section). Suddenly I'm bleeding fresh red blood again. Not a huge amount, not filling pads, but if I already have my period back despite breastfeeding pretty much every 2 hours still I'm not impressed! 😂

That can happen after a c section I'm 6 weeks pp after having a section myself , and I was bleeding for a month straight and then again a week later fresh red blood . It's now stopped thank god . Mine wasn't filling the pad either xx

Thack · 29/12/2023 22:26

@foodislife1 we had success with a MAM bottle today. I pretty much did the opposite to that 🙈 I figured full hungry was a bad time to try, so gave a short feed first so babe was still hungry but had the edge taken off.
Worth trying all combinations I guess!

@BabyBabyBaby123 I hope not for you!
9wo, EBF. I've noticed more discharge on some days and mood swings, so I've wondered if my body is on some sort of cycle/hormonal changes

foodislife1 · 29/12/2023 22:49

@Thack brilliant!! Must be such a relief! Yes definitely try all the options.. these babies are so so different

Travellingislife · 30/12/2023 06:29

Morning ladies,
My little girl has been taking the bottle but the last 3 days she’s been refusing! I was loving the fact that she did take it - my DS never did and I was going crazy because of the sleep deprivation. Now my husband has been able to feed her in the night and it’s made such a difference, but the last few nights she’s refused! She’s just crying even though she is super hungry. I gave it a try yesterday and gave her the boob to start her off and then she reluctantly took the bottle but ate very little.
Has anyone experienced this?

Hope you’ve enjoyed the festive period, we’ve had a quiet one and it was very nice indeed. We usually travel to see family and it can be stressful so this was a nice change just being the 4 of us.

Nov2023 · 30/12/2023 13:13

Oh no @Travellingislife I love the fact that my little boy takes an expressed bottle for dad so I can sleep! I hope your lady gets back on it soon. The same goes to anyone struggling with bottles.

Am wondering if anyone can help me with infant gaviscon please. My month old baby choked on it in a syringe and on a spoon so I gave it in a Mam bottle today and he switched from boob to bottle and back again with only a few confused cute expressions.. Problem is I couldn't make a paste in 5ml of water and then add 10ml as directed.I added 30 ml of cooled boiled water and shook until dissolved. It wouldn't dissolve in less than 30ml.Does anyone know of any issues giving this much water might cause?

Spareincoming · 30/12/2023 14:24

@Nov2023 can you make the paste runny with the 15ml (5ml paste then 10ml) and use a syringe and dummy teat? We’ve had a lot of success over the years with this dummy thingy - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08XXMFVF1?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

@Spareincoming Thank you so much! I have one ordered already😊. I have never seen anything like this. This thread really is invaluable for a first timer!

JoyApple · 30/12/2023 23:41

@Travellingislife hi, I haven't experienced the same as my LO is exclusively formula fed, but I've realised she now understands who is feeding her, and doesn't want people she's not familiar with feeding her. It was just today I was saying to my sibling that if I had combi-fed her, this would be the point at which she'd start refusing the bottle.

JoyApple · 30/12/2023 23:42

Anyone's LO started fussing and crying at bed time? DH walked with her a few nights to put her to sleep as we were at family's and now she wants this every evening 🙈
