@LeeanneD11 that sounds exactly like us! Feeds are not enjoyable in the slightest :( I’ve got her on kendamil, we had her on the original to start with but have changed to the goat milk to see if it helped her reflux/colic/whatever the hell is going on! Only a week in but not sure I’ve really seen much change yet, and it ain’t cheap! I make 120ml bottles but she doesn’t always finish it, and normally go 3-4 hours between feeds.
@Nov2023 ditto, night times are tough. Bloody reflux! My little one has had a snuffly nose for about 3 weeks now it just won’t seem to budge.

if anyone has any tried and tested reflux remedies send them my way! My HV suggested carobel has anyone used this??

WriMum22 · 20/12/2023 04:43

@foodislife1 omg so funny you should say that because Monday night we got zero sleep. She couldn’t settle at all! Yesterday was a very difficult day, luckily however last night was much better and she has actually slept in her cot for the first time in over a week!

WriMum22 · 20/12/2023 05:36

@DollyGx we are on Gaviscon Infant for the reflux, and I must admit I don’t really see a difference until a day where we are running out of sachets and she doesn’t have many bottles with it! Those days she just cannot settle or sleep, then soon as we go back to normal dose, she settles so much easier so it must be making a difference! Only issue is that my GP will only prescribe 30 sachets a time which according to the outlined dose, lasts her over a week!! And as said above, it really does impact both her and us when we have to cut back on her sachets. She had a bit of constipation when we first started using, maybe for a day or two max, but she soon got over that and she’s totally fine on that front now

Travellingislife · 20/12/2023 06:23

Morning everyone,
Thank you for the new thread!

Good to hear from you @Psqueak87 , she is adorable!
My daughter was born at 41+3 and labour started naturally after I had refused being induced several times. It was a long and horrible labour which ended in an emc but it’s all forgotten now when she is here.

So I’ve just experienced a bad reaction in my baby because of something I ate for the first time, I think!
I kept munching on raw broccoli and cauliflower while cooking and a few hours later my DD was screaming blue murder, it seemed to be gas. She was so uncomfortable the poor wee thing. A couple of hours later I fed her again and the same happened. I didn’t dare to feed her over night and luckily I had milk in the fridge so my husband could feed her, my boobs are killing now though so I’m currently pumping but not sure I want to give it to her 😫
Has this happened to anyone else?! How long does it stay in the breast milk? Not even sure this is the cause..

Crazybrowncow · 20/12/2023 06:36

@WriMum22 that is so annoying of your doctor! I'm sorry so many are struggling with reflux. DS seems to have settled, he was very sicky and hiccupy but turned a corner last week after a huge projectile vom! His grunting has lessened as well - that was unreal every night!
He's still snuffly at times though.

I feel like I'm slowly running out of steam for Christmas, although my heart is so full and it is truly magical with a 3 yr old.

The stress about germs is real, we have a house full on Boxing Day and Christmas Eve! My sis has text saying she's got a temperature and I'm thinking will all her family have it by then, has my mum got it from visiting...it spirals in my head!

Sorry to hear you're battling anxiety @Spareincoming - great that you're aware. You had a rough start with DC I hope all is well now.

As for weight - I'm lower on the scales but my tum is still so stuck out! I seem to have a huge appetite! Guessing from feeding. I have a diabetes follow up blood test this morning which I feel nervous about as at times I am fuelled by sugar! 😬

Crazybrowncow · 20/12/2023 06:40

Morning @Travellingislife - yes, I am craving homemade coleslaw, but had the same reaction. I have read to steer off cauliflower. I am avoiding anything raw.

Spareincoming · 20/12/2023 06:49

@Crazybrowncow i had my diabetes blood test on Monday; the nurse just laughed when I said I was powered by pop and chocolate and said it would be abnormal not to have some kind of crutch with an 8 week old!

We also had the first lot of vaccines on Monday and baby was very unsettled yesterday; hoping today will be better as we’ve got school Christmas concert to attend. Luckily it’s at the kirk so we can lurk at the back!

@WriMum22 Are you only getting one gaviscon box at a time? That’s awful, complain to your practice manager! We get 6 boxes at a time as one box is 6 days of bottles. I am afraid I told the GP to prescribe that many as thats what we’ve always had for previous DC and we’re not exactly local to the practice.

WriMum22 · 20/12/2023 07:00

@Spareincoming yes, it’s so frustrating because I’m literally putting prescriptions in every few days and we still get to that last day and she only has 2 sachets left and it’s just a nightmare day.

This week I put a note on and said I need more than 30 sachets as it’s not enough, especially over the Christmas period so they sent a message back saying that our GP has prescribed two boxes but at the end of that we need to bring her in to see a doctor for a review, they won’t issue any more without a review! So that’s fine because I will be going to that appointment with a very stern manner!

PinkPlantCase · 20/12/2023 12:41

I had no idea that it could be so difficult to find the right formula to suit baby. This threads been an eye opener!

Fingers crossed I think we might have a sleeper this time!! She wakes up once in the night. We do co-sleep because she’s never really settled in the Moses basket but I thought that she’d feed for most of the night as the milk is always available, my first would have done! But no she feeds at 10pm then around 3:30am. Most nights she has less wake ups than DS 😂

I’m not looking forward to when it all changes at 4 months 🙈

DollyGx · 20/12/2023 15:45

thank you @WriMum22 how annoying about the sachets, hope you can start getting more! I feel like I’m teetering on the edge of a breakdown 🫠 another long night last night, baby was awake from 12.15 - 5am and then up again at 8am and didn’t get her back to sleep until 12.30pm. I’m getting really worried about how little sleep she is having, not to mention the impact it is having on me. Phoned the GP this morning and have an appointment Friday to get her checked, she definitely has reflux but I’m starting to suspect an allergy/intolerance as well. ☹️

JoyApple · 20/12/2023 16:39

@LeeanneD11 we are on kendamil. Tbh it's the cheapest one and it's even more cheaper at Iceland (£9.25 a box I think).

Oreopie · 20/12/2023 16:42

Is anyone using baby gaviscon and knows how long it takes to work? Have added to two bottles so far and LB is still writhing about in pain 😥

Nov2023 · 20/12/2023 17:46

All these poor allergy/reflux babies. And poor Mums trying to soothe them! Has anyone breastfeeding cut out any foods to try and help? I am loathe to cut daury for no reason but not sure if I should try.. That and one coffee and one tea a day? Has anyone had success by monitoring their diet while nursing?

Nov2023 · 20/12/2023 17:48

@WriMum22 Your GPs behavior seems bizzare. It's not like you are going to overdose on sachets just because you have them? With adult medication you are advised to not leave your repeat prescription to the last day.. Good luck with the practice manager

Psqueak87 · 20/12/2023 19:06

@LeeanneD11 i use Hipp organic formula and my girl seems to love it! Yesterday she drank a total of 33oz, most yet, seems to be drinking more and more every day. Suppose that seems like it makes sense though. Drinking about 4oz every 3 hours!

Psqueak87 · 20/12/2023 19:15

Anybody else’s babies grunt a lot in their sleep? Sometimes her grunts almost sound as if she’s in pain. Her eyes are closed, but her legs are kicking and arms are flailing.
Ive heard of active sleep but this seems so much more active than that…

Psqueak87 · 20/12/2023 19:19

@Travellingislife sorry to hear you had to have the emergency c section. I was given the option of that or forceps and episiotomy after a 45 hour labour, I chose the forceps and I think I’m happy with that decision, although my BF’s nose and throat doctor told him we were foolish to choose forceps as it causes lasting damage to the baby: personality wise and physically! I’m hoping he’s just an idiot!

WriMum22 · 20/12/2023 20:57

@Nov2023 they are a brilliant practice to be honest, and so I’m quite surprised with this as with her allergy milk they prescribed 6 tins in one go nice and easy yet the Gaviscon they are making me jump through hoops for.

Im requesting the prescription about four days before it runs out but because im only get six days worth, it means the next request is coming about two days after the previous prescription is sent, and by the time they process my request and send it to pharmacy, she’s literally on her last day of sachets and so I’m stretching it all out so we’ve got spare sachets just in case I can’t get to the pharmacy on time to collect. It’s just not a nice way to manage it and I really can’t see why I can’t get a few boxes a time. That being said I wonder if it’s my area because I remember it being the same with my son four years ago and at that point we were under a different GP practice.

LeeanneD11 · 20/12/2023 20:59

My LO one was on gaviscon and I think his had a reaction to it cause his come out in a rash on his face and neck it's seemed to settle down since not having it xx

Crazybrowncow · 20/12/2023 21:58

@Nov2023 I thinknn my the nighttime grunting and tummy pains peaked at 3-4wks for us and has got better. With DC1 I cut dairy due to snuffles and it made No difference, he just grew out of it. Their tubes are so tiny at this stage. I also only have 1 tea a day, caffeine made a massive difference with keeping DC1 awake. Have you tried colief - it really helped us. Hope you have it improves soon.

Nov2023 · 20/12/2023 22:44

@Crazybrowncow Thanks for your reply.. We are between 3 and 4 weeks so hopefully this will be the peak for us too! Sadly it might be time to cut the tea and coffee. It is all I missed while pregnant but I'm sure I can mange a few more months! It's worth a shot for a happier baby and maybe some sleep for me. I'll try colief. I have been using a different brand which I can't thinknof right now but I am not sure it makes a difference

Crazybrowncow · 21/12/2023 02:33

@Nov2023 it's a bit of a faff as you have to give it with a little drop of milk. I used the Hakka first thing (when I was most full) to take off a bit of fore-milk. And put it in a tiny bottle, or you can give it on a spoon, it really was a game changer though.

LeeanneD11 · 21/12/2023 13:31

Hi ladies

I stopped breastfeeding 3 weeks ago , but am wanting to start again to see if helps me and him a little does anyone have any tips or advise on how to restart or am I too late to go back to it xx

JD90 · 21/12/2023 13:57

@LeeanneD11 absolutely not too late, it just takes perseverance! Contact your local infant feeding team (mine have been super helpful, though I appreciate not everyone has the same experience location dependent).
Offer boob before each bottle feed, if bub is too upset/hungry then give them enough of a bottle just to settle them a bit and try again. It may take a bit of time to get your supply up so if its something you really want to do just be aware it will take time. I restarted after about 10 days off to heal nipple damage (but was pumping so my supply was already there) and it took baby a few days to get back to it. But local ift and fb breastfeeding groups, I also paid for an online course called the Thompson Method which I personally found really helpful.
Good luck 🤞
