Anyone considering the cranial osteopathic route for reflux etc,
we’re a week on and definitely seeing less discomfort in baby. We tried it with the last DC too and thought we saw results but i was skeptical and suggested it could have been coincidence but this time I’m convinced!

LO is starting with a cold now and I’m on high alert after our wee hospital stay 6 weeks ago… The warm/steam humidifier is on in our room, saline drops and spray restocked and DH has been told to go fill my car with diesel tomorrow on his way to Tesco (we’ve run out of cider and fizzy pop!) just incase we need to get to a doctor or hospital. It’s got half a tank full but we’re quite rural and I worry! All these measures help keep my anxiety at bay!

@Spareincoming would love to hear experiences re osteopath. We are Brooked to see one on Saturday. We have Been diagnosed with silent reflux but I now think it may be cmpa. I'm aware if it's CMPA then an osteopath won't really be able to help though

Spareincoming · 31/12/2023 10:51

@Oreopie we had a full hours session, at a different clinic to where we went previously but the osteopath said similar about LO benefiting from adjustment that impacts the diaphragm; he also said LO was quite tight on one side - we knew this as he has limited neck rotation but that can be linked to the condition he was born with.
Anyways, an hour of what the osteopath called unwinding baby and he has marginally more neck movement as well as (appearing) to have less abdominal discomfort. He's still reflux-y but more
comfortable with it if that makes sense.
Be prepared for baby to be very, very sleepy afterwards!

@JoyApple , forgive me, how many weeks?
We had a bad few evenings/nights at seven weeks old. There's a development leap around 7-9 weeks which adds up.
9.5wo now and last night was rough. They've started smiling in the last two days so I wonder if it's developmental again. I hope not...dc1 had an awful night and I really need sleep tonight.

Have a good new year's eve all. I shall toast a glass of juice to you all!

JoyApple · 31/12/2023 23:12

@Thack 8 weeks :) how do you know about the developmental leap?

@Spareincoming I've been wanting to take my LO to a cranial osteopath but our local one is a bit far out. My LO does alot of hiccups and gets distressed so I really wanted to see if that would help ...

What's everyone's bedtime routine like? We don't have one which probably doesn't help. We are currently bathing LO twice a week or so but noticed the days we bathe her she knocks it off to sleep alot better and sleeps better, but I'm really not sure I got the energy to bathe her every evening (although I did that with my first). I need something alot easier but not sure what ...

GreenAventurinee · 01/01/2024 10:07

@JoyApple or bedtime routine is bath at 9.30, last feed at 10.15/10.30 and then she goes down her self in her next to me with the red light machine and pink noise.

Daytime naps however are another story. The only way she seems to get a good nap is when we go for our daily walk around 11/12 in her pram. She getting fussy and even though I don’t think being windy helps, I feel she is getting over tired. Does anyone have any tips for daytime naps/routine?

Baby girl has her jabs tomorrow, has anyone’s babies had theirs yet? How were they?

foodislife1 · 01/01/2024 12:56

@GreenAventurinee
My Little one also has her jabs tomorrow..I'm expecting a sleepy clingy baby afterwards:)

Daytime naps for us are still contact naps..in arms or in a sling

Spareincoming · 01/01/2024 16:33

@GreenAventurinee and @foodislife1 we had jabs last week; LO had a bit of a temperature but I did the 3 Calpol doses and the temp didn’t seem to reoccur. A bit of a looser nappy in the 24 hours after but that’s been the norm with all of mine post rotavirus vaccine.

Hi ladies, happy new year! Hope everyone’s doing ok. Any tips on getting baby to enjoy bath time more? Since my LO was born there’s only been maybe 2 occasions where she has not screamed the house down when putting her in the bath (she’s just over 6 weeks old). I went to bath her today and had to just take her straight out as she was absolutely hysterical, like almost choking she was crying so hard. I had to just abandon the bath and give her a top and tail wash instead. I use a bath thermometer so it shouldn’t be too hot, but she absolutely hates it. I’m using one of the angelcare bath support thingys in our own bath, but I’m wondering if I’d be better buying a little baby bath and using that? I’m thinking sitting in our big bath might just feel a bit much for her? She might feel safer in a smaller space? Any tips welcome! I was looking at the shnuggle baby bath if anyone has used it or has recommendations for others?

also on the topic of osteopaths - we’ve had 3 sessions (only half hour sessions) and unfortunately I’m not convinced it’s made much of a difference. We were going for reflux/general unsettledness. That’s just our experience though, I’ve heard others saying it’s been really beneficial to their babies. I’ve got a 4th session booked for next week but I think I might cancel as at £55 for half an hour it’s not the cheapest and doesn’t really seem to be helping much :(

Spareincoming · 01/01/2024 18:23

@DollyGx might sound silly but have you tried giving her a shower? One of the boys wouldn’t ever settle in the bath on an chair but sat on the same chair with a flannel over him like a wet blanket and hosed down with the shower and he was a happy chappy!
I have a shnuggle bath this time and use it on the floor or counter top, I didn’t buy the stand, and so far so good; I like the none slip back rest and the positional hump but I suspect it won’t fit DC for that long!

My little boy has his tongue tie assessment tomorrow, he will be 9 weeks exactly, so we’ve had a long wait!
He is measuring small on the centiles after a big drop from birth, I think he was born around 40th and is not tracking about 6th according to the baby centre website, but is gaining weight.
He is exclusively breastfed and I have no issues with latch or pain, so I am really hoping that it is as mild as we we’re told when in the hospital when he was first born and avoids needing it snipped.

Hi , hope your doing well if you don't mind me asking what was your signs of tongue tie please my little one struggles to find his dummy & bottle and tries to look for it constantly xx

Thack · 01/01/2024 20:56

@JoyApple I picked up a cheat sheet online with my first.Search images for Baby Leaps and they're there in a few formats. There is a wonder weeks app, I've not used it, but their info online is great
www.thewonderweeks.com/baby/leaps/

@DollyGx have you tried bathing with baby? The skin to skin might keep her calm.

We have the vaccinations later this week. I remember dc1 slept straight for seven hours that night. I was so worried I stayed awake cuddling them. It was the longest sleep they'd ever had. All back to normal the next day, I wished I'd made the most of it! Total PFB moment!

Advice to breastfeeding mums- have a pump, bottle/bag prepared, you might need to express if you have the same with LO

BabyBabyBaby123 · 01/01/2024 20:58

@LeeanneD11 honestly, just that they picked it up on his top to toe check before we were discharged from the hospital.
He did lose 9% of his birthweight and then was slow to gain, with 1 week only gaining 1oz, but he seems to have overcome this now and put 15oz on in 10 days between his last 2 weighs, so I don’t really feel like weight gain is an issue for him anymore either.
If we were having issues I think I’d have had to consider going private, as 9 weeks would be too long to wait with feeding or weight issues.
Did you manage to re-establish breastfeeding? I know that you asked about.

I'm still struggling as he struggles to latch on to it and has done since birth his now 7 weeks old . And I would love to try BF , to see if helps him a little as we've been through the wars since birth with his formula and everything else . I have an appointment with the community nursery nurse this week so I'll speak to her about it all and see if she can give me some advice on it xx

PinkPlantCase · 01/01/2024 21:14

@DollyGx for the first few baths DH held baby on the bath with her and I washed her. More time consuming but she was lovely and calm

@GreenAventurinee DD is 5 weeks old and I’m going to start being more purposeful about wake windows. She’s a good little napper but gets very cranky if awake too long.

Crazybrowncow · 01/01/2024 23:17

Have any of you had covid since having bubs? I currently have it albeit quite mildly, still enough for me to nap in the day. I'm so worried about DC getting it. He's feeding is a little more fussy than normal (bf) and his temp is normal atm. I feel like I have a long night ahead!

TMI2000 · 02/01/2024 12:49

Has anyone braved intimacy after having baby yet?
I’m 6 weeks post-partum after an 4th degree tear and episiotomy and last week was still quite sore and painful however since taking antibiotics for suspected infection I have been feeling millions better with the only pain/discomfort being pressure when sitting on the toilet and slight stinging whilst weeing (but not all the time) and wondering if this weekend might be the time to take the plunge!

I tried at 3 weeks pp and I had a c section , it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would , i was advised to wait 6 weeks but I thought no Point hanging around any longer . Xx

GreenAventurinee · 02/01/2024 17:44

Baby girls jabs went ok. Didn’t cry half as much as my son did with his. She’s been quite quiet and sleepy after them but so far so good!

@PinkPlantCase same with the cranky when overtired. I feel like I need to get to know when exactly to put her down for a nap. How long should babies be awake for this age? I tried asking the health visitor today and she said just put her down for regular naps.

PinkPlantCase · 02/01/2024 18:43

@GreenAventurinee from what I’ve read it’s roughly 60-90 minutes though I think your little one is a bit older so maybe slightly longer? Today was the first day I’ve made an effort to persuade her to nap based on that and it has been about right. Though I find it doesn’t really work if she’s still tired from not napping for as long as she would like 🥴 I’m glad she’s a second baby rather than a first as I’d be much less chilled about it all.

@TMI2000 lol no. We tried at 5 weeks last time and that was too soon for me. We’ll probably leave it another month atleast and start slow. I’m in less of a rush this time, we both know that it’ll get back to normal and be good fun again after a while. I’d rather wait longer and enjoy it more when we do have a go than be disappointed.

Thack · 02/01/2024 20:38

@TMI2000 we haven't tried, more for tiredness, not being child free and from those days of disliking one another (which is also linked with tiredness!)

I recommend using lube. It made it easier after dc1 and helped me feel less tense about it, which of course also helps.

Hope you're well soon@Crazybrowncow

GreenAventurinee · 02/01/2024 20:48

We continued with our sex life pretty much as soon as baby was born, but I had a planned c section.

Lo is more grouchy now a few hours after her jabs, and very sleepy.

How are babies weights looking? Baby girl is still only 8lb 8oz at over nine weeks old bless her.

I hope everyone is feeling well in themselves. I’ve never been happier however since having the contraceptive injection I’ve been having angry mood swings/anxiety sometimes. I know it’s done to the jab as I had the progesterone only implant after my son and felt the exact same way. I’m hoping my oh will be able to get a vasectomy soon 😔

BabyBabyBaby123 · 02/01/2024 21:35

So we had DS tongue tie assessment today and the woman said he has a 30-40% tongue tie, but as he was having no feeding issues and has started gaining a good amount of weight (10oz in 1 week) although they didn’t weigh him there, which I found strange considering it was a big part of her recommendation of whether to snip or not.
She looked and felt in his mouth and said he has a good range of movement but that I should have him weighed again asap at one of the health visitor sessions and she will call me in a week and if I have changed my mind then we can be sent an urgent referral because he is 9 weeks so better to have it done sooner rather than later because after 4 months he would need a referral to ENT at the local children’s hospital, rather than the neonatal ward where he was born.
I am glad she recommended that it didn’t need snipping, but I am just still not 100% sure whether it was the right decision to leave it. I feel like the phone call in a week to
make sure we still don’t want it done is strange … and I feel like she is expecting me to change my mind and ask for an urgent appointment. My husband is happy with being told it wasn’t necessary, but I feel strange that the final decision is still kind of hanging in the balance.
She did mention that he has dropped centiles since he was born, but then once he regained his birth weight he has settled and tracked on the 6th, with his last weigh in putting him at 10lb 2oz at 8 weeks 5 days old, which I know is small, but it was a gain of 15oz in 10 days … it’s all so confusing knowing what to do for the best.
Sorry for the extra long post!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 02/01/2024 22:23

I had stitches everywhere as they tried forceps delivery before the c section. Almost 4 weeks and not tried sex yet! Tbh I'm not sure how we even would with the baby with us 24/7!
