@LeeanneD11 some good info here from La Leche League

https://llli.org/breastfeeding-info/relactation/

Thank you so much for this I'll have a read xx

Psqueak87 · 22/12/2023 11:46

@LeeanneD11 good luck! I was thinking of doing the same, and I gave up three weeks ago, at three weeks PP. I ended up deciding not to, as I never made more than 3-4oz per day, pumping 8 times per day. So I figured it would probably be more disappointment. But I do think about it a lot. I wish BF started at 6 weeks instead of day 1, I feel a lot more prepared for it now and physically able.

DollyGx · 22/12/2023 15:36

Ladies whose little ones are taking gaviscon - have you had any constipation with it? We’ve just been prescribed some today and the GP advise we start with half doses just to see how it goes, I’m so scared I’ll solve the reflux issue but cause constipation, which we’ve managed to avoid so far! Any tips welcome!

@Psqueak87 oh that would be amazing if it started at 6 weeks instead! I feel really guilty about not BF, my milk wasn’t in until about 3 days after birth by which point we’d sort of just accepted we’d be going down the formula route and I was really struggling with my recovery so it just seemed the easiest option but I wish I’d given it a go now, and now 5 weeks on I’d be physically ready to give it my all. Oh well, maybe next time if there is a next time!

WriMum22 · 22/12/2023 19:19

@DollyGx we are using Gaviscon, she was kind of constipated for about a day but then it cleared up very quickly and she’s been fine since. I didn’t do half doses, wasn’t advised to so went straight in using as normal. I wouldn’t even call it constipation though because it was literally one day with no dirty nappies and she was perfectly happy and content

Thack · 22/12/2023 21:48

Hi ladies, thanks for this thread!
I've been manic so haven't been on, I hope you're all doing ok.

@JoyApple how's your LOs skin? My HV didn't think it was cradle cap as it wasn't on the top of the head but I'm pretty sure it is. She's very good but maybe hasn't seen it that low before. She recommended aveeno or e45 to keep moisturised. I'm trying baby oil to start as I have some already for a baby massage course.

The mums with 2yos, are you finding they are off the rails atm? Xmas seems to have overwhelmed DC1. Sleep is worse, more wee accidents, more frequent tantrums. I can't wait for it to be over!

foodislife1 · 22/12/2023 21:56

@Thack
I have a 3 year old who is exactly as you describe. And I don't think having a new baby who requires a lot of attention, is helping. Hopefully this phase will pass

PinkPlantCase · 22/12/2023 22:05

@Thack my 2 yo actually slept through last night for the first time in months 😂 praying it will continue.

I am looking forward to the new year when we can all find our new normal and get used to day to day life as a family of 4.

LilmissCa · 22/12/2023 22:59

@Thack 100% off the rails with my very soon to be 2yr old. Blaming the new baby (which she's taking really well to) & never ending ear infections but maybe just terrible 2s kicking in. Bedtimes are a disaster, as is dinner time & tantrums have escalated

Psqueak87 · 22/12/2023 23:57

@DollyGx i know the guilt feeling so well. My milk also took a few days and the drs at the hospital warned we wouldn’t be leaving if I she didn’t stop dropping weight, and she was also jaundiced. So I topped up with formula from day one and it’s a slippery slope.
I also struggled a little with recovery, and I recovered so much quicker once I did give up. It really was night and day almost instantly. So although I still feel guilty, it’s what I needed to do at the time! ❤️

Spareincoming · 23/12/2023 23:52

@DollyGx We’re on gaviscon here too and have ended up with lactulose on prescription for LO. Not a surprise, the other DC have been the same.

Advice to breastfeed mums, try a bottle earlier than 8 weeks.

I want the option to pop out, I'm otherwise not fussed with it. LO doesn't know what to do with this haed thing we're putting in their mouth. We'll keep trying.

Chlo496 · 24/12/2023 11:22

Morning, allergy parents can you tell me what you think to this? We have a history of CMPA in my older child but he presented very differently mainly with failure to thrive. Wondering if this little one is following suit, recently started Gaviscon which has settled him down but still having lots of vomiting and now coming up with this to face and neck. Does it look like a rash or baby acne? Just seems to be getting worse as time goes on, we are back with GP after Christmas for a review anyway - thanks in advance x

DollyGx · 24/12/2023 11:26

@Chlo496 my little girl has what looks like a similar sort of rash, just came up yesterday on her face and neck. I’d been wondering too about milk allergy as she had some of the other symptoms too. Be interested to hear from any other mums with cmpa babies.

WriMum22 · 24/12/2023 14:27

@Chlo496 @DollyGx My daughter had the same rash and was diagnosed CMPA. She was gaining weight lovely, so her only symptoms have been reflux (she’s on gaviscon), throwing up and a rash. She’s going really well at the moment with the allergy milk, the rash has gone.

PinkPlantCase · 24/12/2023 17:09

Remember that baby acne is completely normal up to 6 weeks.

Merry Christmas all! 😁

DollyGx · 24/12/2023 19:00

@WriMum22 thanks - I’ll keep an eye on it and see how it goes!
@PinkPlantCase I wasn’t sure but that’s good to know, I’m hoping it is just baby acne and I’m sure it is!

Spareincoming · 24/12/2023 20:52

Merry Christmas all; I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with the DCs, new babies and older children too - I’d say I hope everyone gets a decent nights sleep for Christmas too but I don’t want to jinx it!

Merry Christmas to you too @Spareincoming and to everyone! Up feeding and just feeling unbelievably lucky and grateful to have baby here. Hope everyone has a lovely day

Thack · 25/12/2023 06:38

Merry Christmas all!

This little monster took two hours to settle, just when I had lots to do last night (DH did the main bits). Just woke for a feed so I'm going to potter about before biggie wakes.

Nov2023 · 25/12/2023 06:51

Merry Christmas!
Hope everyone has a lovely day today. My little boy slept the longest stretch yet last night so a fantastic Christmas gift for us! Up now getting bits done with bubs strapped to me. What a change from last Christmas but I wouldn't change it for the world 🎄🎄🎄

foodislife1 · 25/12/2023 17:23

Merry Christmas everyone!
Has any breastfed mummy had any luck with bottles? We've tried the Tommy tippee and MAM but she's not taking to them :(

Any one had any luck with any other brands?

foodislife1 · 25/12/2023 17:24

@Thack I just saw your post! Did you have any luck with any brands?

JD90 · 25/12/2023 17:52

@foodislife1 sorry I can't really help, bub takes bottle and boob but we've been doing it since about a week in and use the mam bottles. I've heard good things about Dr browns bottles or the medela ones.
Hope you find something that works for you!

Also Merry Christmas everyone, hope all your bubs (and other kids) are letting you enjoy at least a little bit of chill today ❤️

foodislife1 · 25/12/2023 18:24

@JD90 I know, I should've tried sooner but was so preoccupied with establishing breast feeding at the time. I will persevere and try the dr Brown ones next!
