Heartmum2Jamie · 25/02/2008 15:15

After a bit of cajoling from some friends (some of whom I hope can join me here soon), I decided to take the plunge and start this thread.

Anyway, I have just found out I am pregnant again, got a BFP on Saturday 23rd at 12dpo, which gives me an EDD of 3rd November 2008 (or the 4th, depending on which calculator I use). This is my 4th pregnancy and will be my 3rd child. I am super excited and a little scared & nervous after a previous missed miscarriage.

I hope I don't get too lonely waiting for more BFP's to roll in! Please come and join me.

I only had a mild bit of nausea on waking with my DS. with DD I was sick as a dog till 20 weeks and couldn't eat meat.

I'm trying to watch what I eat as well, as with DD I ate loads of chocoalte as I couldn't face a lot of things until past 20 weeks. As a result, I'm still two stone heavier than I was before being pg with DD. Is it advisable/possible to diet when pg?, or just a cse of sensible eating?

LolaBella · 02/03/2008 23:18

Evening, Hope everyone is well.
I'm five weeks today and have been suffering for about 10 days with period style cramps. No sore breasts or sickness but (a little embarrassing)i'm constipated and also passing a lot of wind!! Also, i'm starving - this whole pregnancy lark does strange things to our bodies. Does all this sound normal??

FurtivelyPosting · 03/03/2008 10:06

Morning all!

LardyMardyDaisyBoo - I'm a lot heavier than I would like/should be. I don't think that dieting is advisable during pregnancy but it can't hurt to do some sensible/healthy eating. At least, that's what I'm trying to do (note use of the word 'trying)!

Lolabella - they all sounds like normal pregnancy symptoms to me! The cramping sensation (sometimes accompanied by backache) is your uterus and the ligaments stretching already. I think that you should only worry if the pain is severe and/or accompanied by spotting or bleeding. I've found some info on cramping from babycentre. If you're still worried, it wouldn't hurt to give your community midwife a ring to ask her about it.

Not much to report here. Trying to get some work done but have no IT access and can't get hold of the IT guy. Typical.

MummyAnnabella · 03/03/2008 14:01

LMDB & FP - nice to know others also will have 2 under 2 so we can empathise!

saw doc this am and cant decide whether to go private again this time or try the NHS. loved my private consultant the last time but ended up in a diff hospital as ds premature so dont know whether just to book into that hosp on NHS. wish this one would tell me if it plans to come early then i could decide!!

Congratulations and welcome, newtotheplanet! How exciting that you get your first scan so early! I can't wait to have mine - it will seem more real then, I think. At the moment, I kind of forget that I am pregnant because of the lack of symptoms. Please let us know how you get on at your scan.

I thought it might be good to make a note of all of our scan dates as they come up, so we can wish each other luck and stuff.

Welcome to all the newbies! It is nice to see the thread taking off!

I hope everyone is well. All seems normal here. My boobs are finaly starting to feel a little tender at bang on 5 weeks. Well, not so much the boob as the nips, but it's a start! I am also starting to feel really bloated in the evenings now. Here's hoping bean is growing strong for me.

OP posts:
LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 03/03/2008 21:14

so furtively....does healthy eating mean scoffing giant bars of Mother's Day Galaxy?

I saw the doc this morning so she is passing me over to the midwife. I had DD with me, and when I said I was pregnant, her eyes shot over to DD and her face was a picture.

My MS symptoms are OK at the moment, but I'm still BFing DD and for about an hour afterwards I feel really queasy and seasicky. Difficult to tell if there is any boob stuff going on due to BFing, but I'm definately feeling bloated....and I'm all spotty as well .

I'm still on maternity leave at the moment, but due back on 5th May after taking my accrued holidays. I'll only be back three months before starting my next ML, so not sure it's worth it. Does anyone know if I'll be elligible for Maternity Allowance if I don't go back to work?

hit o the other newbies

Sorry Furtive- missed yr question. Sorry to disappoint- I am not a 'famous' regular...I post frequently though, and just don't want people to know yet.

scully · 04/03/2008 11:01

Don't know about the maternity allowance Lardy, although I'm not in the UK now, both dd's were born there, but I got a great package through my work so was always more concerned I got that
Have had such an upset stomach for the last 5 days, either have trouble leaving the loo or can't go when I get there Only symptom really, sore boobs as well but not like I remember with dd1, but maybe that's because that was my first pregnancy so it was all a chock to the system then
I'm going to have 2 under 3 (plus a 6yr old). I know dd1 will be great, dd2 not so sure, she is very clingy of her mummy

carrieboo75 · 04/03/2008 11:45

Hi all and congratulations. I am due on 4th nov (our anniversary!) although I have a 5 week cycle so will prob be more like 11th. We tested on mothers day - it was the best present.

It is our 4th, we have 3 boys so far and have been using a genselect girl kit to achieve this pregnancy. I have been infertile for the last year and a half as my body stopped ovulating after DS3, so am over the moon about this. We were supposed to stop BD 3 days before OV but OV came late so it turns out we stoped 6 days before OV. So am very surprised that I am pregnant at all and if this is not a girl then DH must not be capable!!!

In the last 3 pregnancies we did not do any superstion - so we are doing everything differently this time, I got DH to do the test, we are delaying telling anyone and we will not find out the baby's sex. Prob will not make any difference but it's fun anyway.

I am in maternity clothes already!!!! At the begining of week 3 (before we even knew) I gained 1/2 st and my belly and bust exploded. Now none of my bras or trousers fit - I am living in one pair of maternity trousers that look like a pair of my old ones in the hope that people (esp. my mum) will not notice!!

Am sooo hungry all the time and am getting nausea quite a bit.

Sorry for the long post but I am sooo excited and having always previously told people I don't quite know what to do with my self this time.

Congratulations and welcome, Carrieboo75! Your excitement is obvious in your post and it's just lovely! I am also expecting my fourth and would like a girl (I have one DD and two DSs) but a boy would be equally lovely and wanted! I'm also feeling that my body has changed already - I thought it ws just me being a bit mad or imaginative but I'm glad that you are feeling a difference too. Maybe it's because it's our fourth? My bump isn't showing yet and I'm still in my normal skirts and trousers BUT my tummy feels much bigger by the end of the day and my clothes start to feel uncomfortable then. Also, I can't actually do my coat up at any time of the day - my boobs have gone too big and they keep popping the button open! So I've dug my maternity coat out and have started wearing that now. I hope nobody notices just yet - especially at work, although I do have an eagle eyed colleague who might well spot that I'm wearing my maternity coat again.

LMDB - I think your entitlement to maternity benefits will depend on your employer's matnerity policy. Have you taken any unpaid leave? If so, I think it will be that that makes the difference as you normally have to be in paid service for a certain amount of time in order to be entitled to maternity pay (where I work it's a year). Paid service will include paid leave but if you've taken unpaid leave, that will be a break in your paid service. In this instance, you'll probably qualify for maternity allowance rather than SMP. I've found some info for you;

ACAS advice on maternity benefits

Business Link Questionnaire that's aimed at employers but you can still complete it to see what you're entitled to.

Work and Families Act 2006 is also worth having a look at and

working time regulations might help you to work out annual leave entitlement during maternity leave both taken and planned.

Hope this helps - it certainly helped me last time when I had to go through some difficult negotiations with a bigoted senior staff member.....

LolaBella · 04/03/2008 14:24

Welome to all the new mums to be since i last wrote. Had a terible day yesterday. Had severe abdominal pain on Sun night so called my GP yest who saw me and sent me to the hospital (suspected ectopic). Spent 6 and a half hours in gynacology ward and had blood tests and urine samples. Finally went home at half past midnight tired and emotional. Had to return today to EPU where i had a internal scan (after another 3 and a half hour wait!)But good results, scan showed a healthy tiny sac in the right place. Hormone levels in blood was healthy too so, so far all is well. Strange seeing a tiny black blob on the screen, it makes it seem all the more real.
ps) they didn't find out what was causing the pain suggested body preparing for preg.
Hope everyone else is well today

carrieboo75 · 04/03/2008 14:46

Anyone got any good tips for hiding your bump until you are ready to tell?

This time we live in the same town as my family and see them near enough every day - not forgetting the fact I am huge already!!

I keep sitting with my knees up or using my arms to cover myself - but I think I might be making it worse.

carrieboo75 · 04/03/2008 15:27

Sorry how rude of me (I blame the baby brain!) Glad everything is ok LolaBella and hope everything goes soomthly from now. It's amazing how much pain these little beans can cause us before they are even big enough to kick.

divedaisy · 04/03/2008 21:45

Hi Guys!

This thread is great! Did the test yesterday and got BFP too and saw a locum gp today and it was confirmed. I was a bit disappointed with her - with my last preg my gp did an internal scan and was able to give me a great photo. This time I had to nearly beg her to do the scan and she didn't give me a photo.....ok ok I know it's only a minor thing, but I was disappointed. Anyhow my edd is around 2nd November. I have one ds aged 5 and he will be delighted to know he's to be a big brother! It's all he's wanted for the past year or so!! He has promised to share his Thomas trains!!!

Not really planned. I was on the pill, but my father-in-law was dying from lung cancer so I was under a lot of stress and often had 'the runs'! So must have happened because of this. Anyhow we're both over the moon! The news has come to us about 2 weeks since my father-in-laws death.

Symtoms - YUCK! Big sore boobs which feel as though my nipples are being pulled in! I have lower abdomen pains and pain at my pubic bone and front of thighs(Please God don't give me pubic dysplasia again - and so early too ). The taste in my mouth is horrid - it tastes like I've either been licking too many envelopes and stamps, or have my tongue stuck onto a battery!!! I want to eat everything to get rid of this taste, but am trying to stick to fresh fruit and healty (ish) stuff - big downfall - cinimon and raisin bagels with LOADS of butter!

thanks for the chat! Please add me to the gang. Lovely to be able to tell someone - have to get it off my chest!

Speak soo, and congrats all!

divedaisy · 04/03/2008 21:47

OH another thing! I know fluttering usually aren't felt until later on, but anyone on their 2+ pregnance experiencing this - or is it wind and bowel 'bubbles'??!!

trixibelle · 04/03/2008 22:02

Hi everyone,

It's reassuring to read everyone elses symptoms. I've had lower back pain and feel like divedaisy, dry mouth. Also totally exhausted, to the point where I'll have to nap at lunch during work!

Forgot to say that this baby will be #2 for me. Already have little girl of 18 months.

How does everyone manage to keep pg under wraps?? Especially if you're sick?

divedaisy · 04/03/2008 22:16

Hi trixibelle - glad someone is awake! Mind you I should be in bed.
I would have loved to have had a second child closer to my 5yr old DS, but very bad PND put a stop to that. Anyway very very pleased with this news.
As for keeping it under wraps - it's soooo hard! I'm at home, part time running family business, and at the minute it really is hard to keep going when all I want to do is throw up and feel like sh*t, yet I feel so happy too. I also can't concentrate on what I'm meant to be doing - baby brian syndrom has started again! Great, isn't it??

if your boss at work is sympathetic have a quiet word and ask them to keep it confidential.

Congratulations and welcome, divedaisy! What lovely news to have when you've been through such a sad time. Hope you and DH are doing ok.

I'm glad you mentioned the pubic bone pain thing - I had SPD last time and I've already been getting aches around my pubic bone and in my inner thigh area. I've been trying to ignore it in the hope that it's far too early for SPD symptoms to be kicking in. Now that I know someone else is experiencing the same thing, I'll mention it to my midwife when I eventually have my booking in appointment.

trixibelle - I've had to have a word with my manager already and have asked her to keep it totally confidential for now, which I'm confident she will. Basically, I told her this early because I had horrific MS last time that lasted for almost the first 6 months, along with SPD. Also, because of my age, I'm nervous about things going wrong and thought that if I do have to phone her to tell her I can't come in to work because something has happened, it will be slightly easier if I don't have to explain from scratch IYSWIM. Also, the other person who does the same role as me in the same area is currently pregnant and going on maternity leave in a couple of months - I thought that my manager would appreciate being told that both of us are likely to be off at the same time now at this stage, so she can plan ahead for cover and things like that. I haven't told anyone else at work, including the woman I work with (who is also the office gossip) and I don't intend to tell them until I've had the first scan and have safely got past the first trimester. That's the plan, anyway! I do work from home a fair bit, so I think it's easier for me to do that than it would be if I worked in an office every day.

How is everyone else today? How's everyone feeling? Anyone else with symptoms kicking in?

ChilledBunny · 05/03/2008 11:17

Hi all. I had a BFP about 10 days ago and EDD is 3rd November. I'm 39 and it's #1 so very excited and scared all at the same time. We've decided to keep it quiet until first trimester is over and we know everything is alright, but it's really difficult. I had some bleeding yesterday which freaked me out, but doc said too early to refer to EPU until next week as they don't scan anyone under 6 wks! Can anyone give me some tips for combatting constipation? Midwife suggested lactulose (over the phone) but after the bleed yesterday I feel really reluctant to take it just in case. Also, I am hypothyroid so that's worrying too.

suiledonn · 05/03/2008 12:55

Hi all and welcome to everyone who has joined since I was on last. I'm feeling very tired these evenings but luckily all the cramping I had last week has disappeared. I am a SAHM with a 22 month old dd and she is keeping me busy. Thankfully no signs of sickness yet - just a bit queasy in the morning which goes away when I eat. I dread the idea of vomiting because when I started on dd I didn't stop for the whole pregnancy.
So far I have told 2 of my sisters and my mother who then told my dad and who knows who else at this stage. I don't know how anyone keeps it quiet for 12 weeks. Last time I had to tell people early as I was sick from 5 weeks and everyone would have been worrying. Poor dh hasn't told anyone yet - he thought we were keeping it quiet so he is going to tell his mum at the weekend. (if I don't see her first lol)

MummyAnnabella · 05/03/2008 13:57

hi anyone else totally exhausted?? i am in bed at half nine something i havent done since 1st pg which lets face it isnt long ago!! ds 7 months.

cooked up 4 meals for him last night and was chopping and steaming pureeing and freezing for hours. at the end i was so tired when i realised i had lifted braising steak out of freezer instead of mince (to make a quick shephards pie instead of more chopping and casseroling for hours) i nearly cried!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 05/03/2008 14:31

Hi and welcome to the newbies since I last posted! Congrats to you all.

I still feel nothing really. I have had some headaches which i guess could be down to hormones or lack of caffine. My nips are sensitive and a little tender, but no sore boobs, no pulling or cramping. I think I am starting to feel a little queasy late evening when I start to feel hungry again (with my other pregnancies I had late afternoon/evening nausea). Also suffering a bit of constipation here. I do go, it's just not very easy . I have increased my water and fruit/veg intake. I have bought some orange juice to help, but it was one of those things that would trigger migraine when I was younger, so I am a little nervous to try it.

I hope everyone is well today?

Congratulations and welcome, ChilledBunny - great to have you with us! Constipation is really annoying, isn't it? I've always found that drinking a cup of cooled down boiled water first thing in the morning really helps - keep drinking it every day and after a few days, you'll notice it cleansing your system out. Other than that, fruit and veg are the best options!

I had to roll my eyes at myself this morning. I've noticed how my boobs have got bigger and how my coat won't do up over them any more but I thought I was getting away with it tummy wise - then this morning, I noticed that I've actually been wearing my 'early term' jeans from last time for the past couple of days.....
