After a bit of cajoling from some friends (some of whom I hope can join me here soon), I decided to take the plunge and start this thread.

Anyway, I have just found out I am pregnant again, got a BFP on Saturday 23rd at 12dpo, which gives me an EDD of 3rd November 2008 (or the 4th, depending on which calculator I use). This is my 4th pregnancy and will be my 3rd child. I am super excited and a little scared & nervous after a previous missed miscarriage.

I hope I don't get too lonely waiting for more BFP's to roll in! Please come and join me.

My sickness was just the start of a tummy bug! On the positive side I lost 1/2 st over night and can now fit back in to my none maternity clothes.

My sickness has got less with each pg, but was hoping to be really sick this time due to old wives tale that girls make you sicker! Do you think it is possible to get less sick each time and still be carrying a girl 4th time?

mum2becks · 07/03/2008 10:27

Hi and welcome Oliviaelenasmum!!

Carrieboo75, everyone told me I was having a boy with my first pregnancy as I had no sickness at all, and I supprised everyone when it was actually a girl!!! So it is possible you are carrying a girl this time, fingers crossed for you!!

JackJacksmummy · 07/03/2008 10:52

eeeeeeek i got a BFP last night - totally unplanned and unexpected. This is number 4 for us and not a good time but i'm sure we'll manage. Last AF was 3rd of Feb, i haven't even thought about an exact EDD yet, i just know 9 months from then is November.

Renaissancewoman · 07/03/2008 10:55

Add me to the list. EDD 6/11.
4th pregnancy (had m/c last August). Have DD almost 5 and DS 2 next week.
I couldn't make up my mind whether to have a third and if so when. Glad to be pregnant - is one less decision to make! It also means I don't need to think about returning to my former career for quite a while, hurray.

oliviaelanasmum · 07/03/2008 10:57

Im the other way round i have never had morning sickness and only have girls

OddEyes · 07/03/2008 11:06

good morning all. congratulations to all. thread expanding every minute.
just noticed lots of you with smaller gap than I will have. was reassured last night by friend who said one of her friends had 2 months between pregnancys and she survived and loved it as do children.
anyone else still breastfeeding? we only at night but doc said give up asap.

oliviaelanasmum · 07/03/2008 11:15

I will have about 14 months between #3&#4 so was a bit apprehensive but im coming round to the idea now

Heartmum2Jamie · 07/03/2008 14:24

Congrats and welcome to all the newbies! It is great to see so many joining and so many having 3, 4 or more!

Not sure if morning sickness and gender is really that accurate. I have friends that were really sick and had boys, friends that were really sick and had girls and friends that have had no sickness with either pregnancy boy & girl! What about cravings? I heard sweet was a girl, savoury/salty was a boy. Guess I am having another boy then!

OddEyes, I am curious as to why your doc said to give up breastfeeding??? I breastfed up until ds2 was 3, but would not have stopped had I have got pregnant sooner. I was determined to let ds self wean and he did it when he was ready (admittedly he has health issues and allergies, so it was beneficial to carry on for as long as we did)

Congratulations and welcome to Oliviaelenas mum, Jackjacksmummy and Renaissancewoman! It's great to see you all here. OEM and JJM - I've put you both at the top of the list for now and until you find out your EDD.

Carrieboo - I'm not sure about the whole morning sickness and gender thing. I had horrible nausea and fatigue with DD but no actual throwing up. With DS1, I had nausea and some throwing up and with DS2, I was throwing up from the word go! With this one, I get the odd wave of nausea but it's usually because I haven't eaten - as soon as I eat something, it's gone again.

It's really lovely to see more ladies who are going to have LOs close together in ages. We can encourage each other along in times of need!!

LolaBella · 07/03/2008 15:39

Congratulations to all the new mommies to be. x

Just wondering if anyone one else has been suffering from headaches? I started with mine last night, i didn't take anything and drank lots of water etc but had it all day today. Am i ok to take some paracetomal?

JackJacksmummy · 07/03/2008 15:43

paracetamol is fine Lolabella.

I have been going to the toilet loads which is my only symptom so far but no doubt will be the first of many more

JackJacksmummy · 07/03/2008 15:45

thanks creena, I'm not 100% sure of my LMP, i think it was the 3rd which puts me at 09/11/08, it was definitely no earlier than that and i do remember it coming early last month and being glad cos it would mean it would be gone by the time my birthday and valentines day came round

carrieboo75 · 07/03/2008 17:33

We he DS2 and DS3 16 months apart. DS2 was only 6 1/2 months when I found out, I had only had one period and DH had gone to Iraq for 10 months. It was my best pg so far! I felt very exhausted after the birth, almost like my primal energy reserved for birth had not charged properly. However as long as you a prepared to do less afterwards and be relaxed about want gets done, it is fantastic as they are pretty much into the same things still (i.e. eating and sleeping with a quick play in the middle!). Mine are now 6, 4, and 2 (nearly 3) and get on brilliantly. So much so they are not that fussed about one-to-one time as they want to do stuff together.

This time my gap will be nearly 3 1/2 years (stupid body would not work any earlier) and I am worried about this age gap as it is the same gap as me and my sister and we hated each other!!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 07/03/2008 17:38

Lolabella, I had headaches last week and had to cave and take 2 paracetamol. Thankfully they did the trick (unusual for me, I ususally use syndol, lol!).

I had my birthday last month too jackjacksmummmy

divedaisy · 07/03/2008 19:08

Hi Mums! Since I last posted a few days ago there were only a few of us, now look at that list! Congrats to us all and may we all have healthy pregs.

I feel sick all the time with this one. terrible taste in my mouth YUCK! Even Fruit Pastels don't taste good which is a bad sign! Chewing gum is great to get rid of the taste, but it makes me feel sick! Tea (and I'm a bit of a weak tea-oholic) is disgusting (like first preg). Are there any tasty things out there??? Oh yeh! I made home made veg soup and laced it with chillies and it was GORGEOUS! And again, thankfully, I've a thing for sweet juicy fruit!

One weird thing I've been experiencing - I'm shivery and feel 'shakey' (like butterflies) in my tummy. Now if my dates are right I should only be 6 weeks gone, so it couldn't possibly be baby flutters. I've read that from 2nd preg on the fluttery feeling is noticed earlier than with 1st one, but surely not at 6 weeks!!!?

Yes tired, tired, tired, sick, windy sore boobs, tearful, nauseaus, sick, symptoms of SPD in pubic area and front of thighs (very early I thought so too am trying to ignore these! - daren't mention this to DH!!)did I mention I feel sick and tired - oh and I've stretch pain sensations in uterus area???!!! All said - with every pain/symptom, I thank God I'm pregnant! It's great!!

LittleHarrysMum · 07/03/2008 19:12

Hiya!!

Hope I can join you! Got my BFP last night, have been TTC but didn't think it would happen this quickly, only came off the pill just before Xmas!! Think I'm due 1st week in Nov but because I didn't think it would come so fast wasn't paying attention to periods/dates etc!

I have one DS who is 19 months old. Looking forward to the journey ahead with you guys!

xx

divedaisy · 07/03/2008 19:19

One other thing....

Because in my last preg I suffered terribly with SPD; I had Strep B and passed this onto my DS when he was born and he ended up very sick in the SCBU; I'm 39; and to cap it all I had horrendous PND - my DH is outlinign all his legitimate fears and worries....already.
In 1st preg I had a triple test at 16 weeks to detect hormone levels which could suggest Downs, ect and DH is stating that I WILL be getting the test again. Also he's stating I WILL be tested for Strep B, and to cap it all he's already got me diagnosed as going to have PND!!

Good God! I'm only 6 weeks gone - let me enjoy it!

I was annoyed at the way he put it to me, but I do understand his worries. I'd planned to have the triple test done, and had forgotten about the Strep B thing and wasn't aware there was a test for it, so I am glad he reminded me about it. As for the PND - that is a tricky one. I cann't control the outcome of it; I know I'm high risk for getting it again, yet so far I feel so so so happy and positive about this BFP! I feel under pressure because of this. I feel I better keep quiet about any symptoms otherwise I may panic him. He is a great man and is over the moon about this, but he has his worries and is entitled to have them.

GP said I'd have to start on PND treatment as soon as baby is born. But I want to breastfeed. Last time I had to stop BFing once I was started on antideps. Has anyone been on Antideps and still BF?

lackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2008 21:11

hi divedaisy

I was put on prozac for AND at about 33 weeks pregnant, but they changed me to Sertraline after the birth as I wanted to BF. This was under the care of the neo-natal psychiatric unit so I guess they know their stuff. I was still taking it until the week I suspected I was pregnant and DD was 8.5 mo old. She is absolutely fine, and has met all her developmental milestones (crawling at 6.5 months), has a few words, sits and claps all day and is now cruising the furniture.

From all I've read up on the subject, although sertraline is present in BM, it is in much lower quantities than any other SSRI available. I'd ask for a referral to the neo-natal unit if your PCT has one.

One thing though, just because you had PND before doesn't necessarily mean you will have it again. Try not to stress out about it too much or it might just become a self-fulfilling prophesy. I'm trying to do lots of thins to lift my mood this time around; I've given up on caffeine, am exercising more (trying to get out walking at least one a day, and some swimming when I can get someone to babysit), and drinking lots of herbal teas and making sure I eat well and take vitamin supplements.

oliviaelanasmum · 07/03/2008 21:42

Hi i had PND after the birth of dd2 and i was prescribed fluoxetine, after 6 months approx i was weaned off it and have been fine since even through the pregnancy and birth of dd3 which shows that it doesnt neccersarily mean you will suffer again.

browny · 07/03/2008 22:35

Hi, can I join you all please, got my bfp yesterday and it hasn't sunk in yet. This will be my 5th and we're over the moon - we've only been trying since November so I'm really surprised that it's happened so quickly .

lackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2008 22:39

hi browny...another one with 5! You will certainly have your hands full!

Lots of people on here to advise on the best car for getting two baby seats and a booster cushion across the back seat

divedaisy · 07/03/2008 22:47

Hi Mums! Thanks lackaDAISYcal for that info as it gives me something to think about. Sometimes doctors don't make alternative options a possibility, so I'll mention it....if the time arrises! Yes I'm looking after myself, trying to go swimming (bad neck so it's not easy to do) and a bit of walking too. Really trying to keep stress levels down (is that possible when you're trying to sell house and set up new retail business!!!) The big thing is I'm being totally positive about this one. Without scaring the new mums-2-b, the first one really was a culture shock to me. From the surreal feeling regarding being pregnant through to not really knowing what to expect in labour and afterwards, to having my DS whisked off to SCBU for a week during which he was queried with having menigitis and a subdural haemotoma - all too much. For example I was totally unprepared for the amount of blood loss after the birth that lasted for a few weeks. That isn't talked about much!!

divedaisy · 07/03/2008 22:52

lackaDAISYcal - what is PTC??

Also is it safe to take extra vitamin supplements - what about Vit A (isn't that the one you should limit?? - found in liver etc) I thought only folic acid was recommended.

lackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2008 22:59

pct = primary care trust.

I knew about the vitamin A being not good. I take some extra B vits which are fine as any excess is washed out in your urine (I know I'm taking too much as urine goes green). I have to take a calcium supplement and iron as well as I have coeliac disease and my iron and calcium absorption are compromised as a result.

With all that happened divedaisy, it's no wonder you had PND . I found some really good information on-line on Ante and Post natal depression; I'll see if I can find it and link it later in the weeks.

Am off to bed as DD will no doubt be up shortly looking for some more milk.
