Heartmum2Jamie · 25/02/2008 15:15

After a bit of cajoling from some friends (some of whom I hope can join me here soon), I decided to take the plunge and start this thread.

Anyway, I have just found out I am pregnant again, got a BFP on Saturday 23rd at 12dpo, which gives me an EDD of 3rd November 2008 (or the 4th, depending on which calculator I use). This is my 4th pregnancy and will be my 3rd child. I am super excited and a little scared & nervous after a previous missed miscarriage.

I hope I don't get too lonely waiting for more BFP's to roll in! Please come and join me.

Hello! Can I come and keep you company? We have a lot in common, it seems!

I've just found out that I am pregnant too, having had a BFP yesterday (confirmed with a CB digi today - exciting!) at 12DPO. This is also my fourth pregnancy. I have three other children - DD aged 16, DS1 aged 11 and DS2 aged 9 months. I couldn't leave a big age gap this time around as I'm no spring chicken! My due date is 4th November.

I'm also very excited and overjoyed. It took a while to sink in but I think I'm getting my head around it now. I'm also nervous about it being early days and all on account of my age (39) but fingers crossed.

Heartmum2Jamie · 25/02/2008 19:19

Hi Furtively, of course you can keep me company! Congratulations on your BFP! Exciting times for us

I know what you mean about trying to get your head around it. I am finding it quite hard as I have hardly any symptoms. As for your age, I have a very good friend who is just 3 weeks away from being due with her 5th at 39, her first girl too! She actually told me that this has been the easiest pregnancy for her, so don't worry too much!

As for me, I have 2 boys aged 6.8 and 3.7

Hello you two - can I join your thread? I feel like the new kid in school - My first posting on mumsnet... my first pregnancy... ! got a BFP at the weekend, can't see doctor till wednesday, so don't know whether to be excited or keep calm. actually, am in complete shock, even though we have been TTC - I spose nothing prepares you for it. and doesn't help that we've only been trying for a month... Isn't it meant to take 6 months or something??? Suddenly November doesn't seem so far away now. yikes....

LilChick · 26/02/2008 10:15

Hello!
Congratulations to you all I have just got my BFP (a little bit of a surprise as we haven't been trying at all!) I'm Sarah and I have a DD who is 4 and a DS who is 2 next month. I hadn't really imagined being here again as DH was against, but bless him he's taken it all very well (smiling too much, sweating, wandering around muttering "3 children" and quietly having a nervous breakdown - lol!!)

Anyway - Babyglue to us all and looking forward to getting to know you.

Sarah x
PS not sure about all of this DPO12 etc as I can't remember my last period (LOL!) but I think probably begining of November and as DS was 2 weeks late I'm sure we'll have a November baby. x

loulou33 · 26/02/2008 12:43

SparklyGothKat · 26/02/2008 12:48

congratulations everyone!!

NatalieJane · 26/02/2008 12:55

Hello everyone - Congratulations to you all.

I was on the November 2006 thread (Although he eventually arrived in December!), can't believe it was 2 years ago it was all starting to kick off!

Anyway, hope everything goes well for everyone Congrats again xxx

FurtivelyPosting · 26/02/2008 20:57

Evening all!

Congratulations and welcome, Jaydee and Lilchick! It's great to see our group expanding, as we ourselves will be in a few months time!

Hello and thanks to loulou, SparklyGothKat and NatalieJane! I remember you, NatalieJane; I was due in May 07 with DS2 and I posted on your infamous 'knicker thread'!! I can't believe that that all happened in 2006.....

Anyone getting any symptoms yet? I've not been too bad at all so far (although it is early days). I've been absolutely knackered today though and I think that I'll be taking myself off to bed soon. Other than that, I've just had the odd bit of queasiness, some heartburn and a little boob-ache now and then. Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining!

FurtivelyPosting · 26/02/2008 21:00

Just thought - should we do some sort of 'stats list' with our due dates on and stuff? I'll try to get one going but you might need to fill in or change the details;

Heartmum2Jamie - EDD 3rd November (#3)
Furtively - EDD 4th November (#4)
Jaydee - EDD ? November (#1)
Lilchick - EDD ? November (#3)

suiledonn · 26/02/2008 22:04

Hi all, I am joining you here on the November board. Got a BFP today. Due on November 6th. We have a dd who will be 2 in May. Looking forward to this pregnancy with a mixture of excitement and nerves as I had hyperemesis last time and don't know how I would cope with a toddler if it is the same again. I'm just trying to think positive thoughts.

jaydee I know how you feel. DD was conceived in the first month we tried and it was such a surprise. I thought I would have a few months to get my head round the idea. Took us 4 months this time around.

Heartmum2Jamie · 26/02/2008 22:31

Hi and welcome Jaydee, lilchick and suildonn! Also thanks for the congrats to the November members from the last few years. I know that in the blink of an eye it will be use congratulating next years BFP's

Furtively, the list is a great idea and will make it easier to keep up to date with everyone.

Jaydee, I know the shock of falling in the first month. This is my 4th time falling that way and the shock doesn't get any less, but the guilt starts to wrack up a little when I am starting to bypass friends who would do anything for 1 baby, never mind 3.

As for symptoms, not alot really. I have almost none on waking in the morning, except for a tiny little bit of pulling in the uterus which can be felt while lying down. As the day progresses, my boobs get a little more tender (absolutelty nothing on last pregnancy though.... I would have drop kicked anyone who even breathed on me, lol!). I am definately more hungry, I feel like I need to eat 6 times, not 3. I have resorted to a bowl of cereal before bed so I can sleep as I am so hungry by about 11. The tiredness, heartburn or nausea haven't kicked in. Pregnancy brain has though! I always have my shopping delivered on a Tuesday between 11 & 1. So there I was, wondering where the Tesco man was. At about 12.45 I suddenly had a terrible thought. When I checked email confirmation, I had ordered the shopping for tomorrow . Wouldn't have been so bad, but we had hardly any food in the house. Que mutterings of frustration from the hungry pregnant woman!

Oh, I sawe the GP today. Early I know, but I thought I should at least get in the system as who knew how long I might have to wait to see the midwife. It was confirmed that booking in will be between 8 & 10 weeks. It feels like a lifetime away, but I am sure the boys will help it pass more quickly.

Hi Everyone

I have just found out I am pregnant for the first time this weekend and I (think) my due date is 2 November. I'm excited but a bit shocked as I got pregnant the first month of trying (and this after several years of irregular periods where I was terrified I wouldn't be able to conceive!)
I am very excited but it seems too early to tell family and friends so it is lovely to be able to join your group
congratulations to you all

FurtivelyPosting · 27/02/2008 08:54

Hurray! Our group is growing! Congratulations and welcome, Suiledonn and Chickenmommy! Stats update;

Chickenmommy - EDD 2nd November (#1)
Heartmum2Jamie - EDD 3rd November (#3)
Furtively - EDD 4th November (#4)
Jaydee - EDD ? November (#1)
Lilchick - EDD ? November (#3)
Suiledonn - EDD 6th November (#2)

I've got a mad day lined up at work today and I'm absolutely knackered! I've no idea how I'm going to get through it and it doesn't help that I've got a cold coming on too. AGH!

How's everyone doing today?

chickenmommy · 27/02/2008 09:45

In bed with a cold at the moment but unable to resist looking at baby things on the internet when I should be resting!

I'm a bit confused by everyones abbreviations BFPs? DD? DH?

Not sure if I should be "doing" something about being pregnant. Should I be booking to see my doctor? Midwife? Is anyone else here as clueless as me

Heartmum2Jamie · 27/02/2008 11:20

Hi Chickenmommy and welcome! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

OK, here is a quick run down of abbreviations for those new to forums!

BFP: Big Fat Positive - positive pregnancy test
BFP: Big Fat Naegative - negative pregnancy test
DPO - days past ovulation
DD -dear/darling daughter
DS -dear/darling son
DH - dear/darling/damn(!) husband
DP - dear/darling/damn partner
M/C - miscarriage
BD - Baby dance, ie have sex or do the deed
EDD - Estimated due date
U/S - Ultrasound scan

Having pregnancy brain, I can't think of anymore off the top of my head, but I know that there is practically an endless list. If you come across anything you aren't sure about, just shout, someone will be willing to tell you.

I daren't look at baby clothes, no matter how tempting. It is a long time until D-day (delivery day!). I will need to buy new clothes either way, especialy if I have a girl, but also becuase they clothes I have (not so much the newborn stuff) has seen 2 boys in them, I am sick of seeing them, especially as ds2 is small and has been each set of clothes a long time.

I may go up the loft and get the bag of maternity stuff down though. I am sure being baby 3, pregnancy 4 that I will be filling out (ie, looking fat rather than pregnant!) pretty soon.

I hope you all have a great day!

LilChick · 27/02/2008 14:52

Hi FurtivelyPosting

I think my due date is the 1st but it could be end of October.

The problem is I have different length cycles and a shocking memory so I can't actually remember when my last period was.

Anyway - I'd rather have a later due date as DS was 2 weeks late and I was threatened with induction. I want a homebirth any way possible this time;-) To be honest I'm not sure I'd make it to hospital as my labours are so quick - I'd much rather have baby at home than in the back of the car, pmsl!

As I've had a boy and a girl (and ds was a giant and so the newborn stuff hardly got worn) I can't really justify looking at clothes.... Baby slings is a completely different matter

I hope you are all feeling well - I've had a migraine today which is pooey

Have a good day - Sarah x

LilChick · 27/02/2008 14:54

Sorry - I meant to say hello to everyone

chickenmommy · 27/02/2008 14:56

oohh baby slings! hadn't thought of looking at them

NatalieJane · 27/02/2008 14:59

LOL FP, knicker thread..... can you believe I am going to be doing it all over again?

Looks like things are starting to fill up on here Good luck everyone

I will stop crashing your lovely sparkly new thread now

Heartmum2Jamie · 27/02/2008 15:02

Ohhhhh Lilchick! Lets talk babyslings!

I didn't carry ds1. He was such a placid baby, I could put him down somewhere with some gadget like the tv remote and he would sit for ages. Now he is incredibly demanding and is hard work. With ds2, I inadvertantly HAD to carry him as he screamed non stop for almost 9 months (in his defense, before I put the first timers off, he was a very poorly baby it turned out). He spent the first year of his life being carried, cradled, rocked, bounced, swayed, walked or breastfed. He was always on me in some way, shape of form. I had no idea about slings at the time, most of the time we had him in our arms as he was only a scrap. I did have a carrier though and used that sometimes.

After watching that horrid parenting experiment programme on channel 4, I realised that I pretty much followed the continuum method last time, but not through choice (we don't co sleep though we shared a room for 19 months!). DS2 is now very relaxed and laid back, very loving and is confident enough to go off and do his own thing. Is the difference in my boys down to the different ways they were treated as babies, who knows! All I know is that I actually miss carrying ds2 around and would love to do this with a new baby. Plus it will allow me to free up my hands, which I will need as an already busy mum of 2!

I am sure I will be bugging you about slings and will be looking around on here for advice on the best slings and where to get them from. It's not like I have anything else major to buy!

Heartmum2Jamie · 27/02/2008 15:05

Sorry Lilchick, meant to say I was sorry about your migraine They are horrid at the best of times, ut must be hell when pregnant.

NatalieJane, don't worry, I'm sure we all appreciate the company!

OP posts:
LilChick · 27/02/2008 15:37

There are just sooo many amazing slings out there - so much more than just Baby Bjorn.

Have a look at some sites like www.thebabywearer.com
www.wearyourbaby.com
www.slingmeet.co.uk

Sling meet is a uk site and has some great retail links as well as our sling users near you - this is great because you can go to a sling meet and try some on and see what you like.

I've got too many slings to mention already, but a pouch or unpadded ringsling are nice for newborns - or a stretchy wrap like Kari me or calinbleu - you can just pop baby in and out.

I'm sure we'll talk more on this - I'll make you all love slings, lol!!

BTW - I'm not attachment parenting or continuum or the next term that they come up with - not sure what I am, but I know having baby close works for me.

LilChick · 27/02/2008 15:41

Migraine is easing - paracetamol have kept it a bay, so it's isn't the worst I've had (else I wouldn't be on the computer!)

Anyone been thinking of names yet?? I can't help but look (and it's free to look!)

FurtivelyPosting · 27/02/2008 19:04

Evening all! How is everyone today?

I have to admit, I have been looking at maternity clothes already (and have even made a purchase)! What you say is right though, Heartmum2Jamie; I began showing very early on last time and had to start wearing roomier/maternity trousers at about 12 weeks. That was my third pregnancy so flip knows what I'll be like in this one! Have updated the stats;

Lilchick - EDD 1 November (#3)
Chickenmommy - EDD 2nd November (#1)
Heartmum2Jamie - EDD 3rd November (#3)
Furtively - EDD 4th November (#4)
Jaydee - EDD ? November (#1)
Suiledonn - EDD 6th November (#2)

Chickenmommy - I don't think that it would hurt to make an appointment with your GP to get the ball rolling. Your GP will refer you to your community midwife with whom you'll have your 'booking in' appointment from 8 weeks onwards. Your midwife will go through everything with you and give you all of your paperwork then. In the meantime, just ask here and I'm sure someone will help out!

NatalieJane - congratulations to you too! When are you due?

Heartmum2Jamie · 27/02/2008 19:08

Phew! I am glad I am not the only one who made a maternity purchase. I went in the loft earlier (I always do crazy things when pregnant it seems) and could not find my maternity stuff anywhere. I am not sure if I gave it to my friend to give to her sister in law. I can't complain too much as much of it was borrowed anyway. So I bought a pair of jeans as I tend to live in them anyway.

Thanks for the links Lilchick, shall have a proper look later when the kids are not playing some kind of destruction game with a couple of empty cereal box.
