Due Novermber 2008 - Let's here it for the BFP's!

1000 replies

Heartmum2Jamie · 25/02/2008 15:15

After a bit of cajoling from some friends (some of whom I hope can join me here soon), I decided to take the plunge and start this thread.

Anyway, I have just found out I am pregnant again, got a BFP on Saturday 23rd at 12dpo, which gives me an EDD of 3rd November 2008 (or the 4th, depending on which calculator I use). This is my 4th pregnancy and will be my 3rd child. I am super excited and a little scared & nervous after a previous missed miscarriage.

I hope I don't get too lonely waiting for more BFP's to roll in! Please come and join me.

chickenmommy · 27/02/2008 19:16

thanks for the tip FurtivelyPosting. I called the doctors and I have my booking in appointment on 23 March. I've managed not to buy anything yet (close call) but I don't know how I'm going to keep this news to myself for much longer!!! How soon do you all tell friends and family?

Heartmum2Jamie · 27/02/2008 19:32

My huby knows, obviously! I also told me best friend and 2 other really close friends. I haven't told my family yet, not becuase I am not thrileld, and not even because of a previous loss. Mainly because the mil hinted at us not to have anymore (Grrrrr!) and my mum & Grandparents all have alot on their plate right now with health issues, so I would rather know it is a keeper before I tell them.

Well done on getting a booking appt, I was just told that my midwife would call me closer to the time. Ideally I hope she calls soon so I can arrange stuff around the appt.

Can I tentatively join you? I had thought it was way too early for a November thread, but obviously not.

I've just had a BFP today, and by my reckoning will be due on 7th November. I'm not sure about the whole conception thing and dates etc as this wasn't exactly planned as my DD is only 9mo old . My cycles have been every 7 weeks since she was 9 weeks old and I'm still BFing. this month my cycle decided to return back to normal.

I'm a bit nervous about it, as I had 2 mcs between my DS (5) and my DD who was born last June. I might also pop over to the knicker checkers anonymous thread and say I'm back

I usually post under DaisyBoo or daisybump, this name is just my oh "I need to lose weight name". Guess I'll be putting the radical diet on the back burner for a bit.

My DH knows (less unpleased than I thought ), my BF, and my PN thread chums. We'll save family for another time. I'm rehearsing the "we planned it like this as i'm no spring chicken" speech (I'm 39 as well FP!) to cut all the "was it planned?" comments off at the pass.

And I "talk" a lot

Hi to everyone and i'll be back soon

jaydee1 · 28/02/2008 00:01

wow, this thread has grown! lovely and reassuring to know so many of you are in the same boat. chickenmommy, fantastic also to have a first-timer to talk to.
I had some bleeding over the weekend - the day after the BFP - so went to GP today, who sent me to hospital where a scan confirmed that I am still pregnant. they told me to come back in 2 weeks for what would otherwise have been the first scan - apparently at this stage they can't really tell anything (other than that its there, and it's a single pregnancy - thank the lord! I think I'd still be sitting in the hospital in shock otherwise).
GP told me to come back to him in about 3 weeks when he'd go through everything I needed to know. So I assume there's nothing I need to do between now and the scan / GP visit. Maybe start looking into gynaes / midwives and thinking about birthing options. Lilchick, I'm with you on the home birth - although not sure if tiny flat in central london conducive to it. shame - I quite like idea of a big paddling pool, and my lovely bed to hand...
anyway, by my calculations my EDD is about 1 nov.
Gosh - we'll all have babies for christmas!

jaydee1 · 28/02/2008 00:03

ps - anyone know anything / have any views on swaddling?

scully · 28/02/2008 03:03

Hiya, I'm very quietly going to join this thread I did a test this morning and got a bfp, so thrilled about that. I have dd1 who is 5.10yrs and dd2 who is 2.2yrs. I also had a m/c last Aug, at 12wks, so this week would have been my edd for that pregnancy, so lovely timing to get a bfp the same week.
I'm due on 5 Nov.
Jaydee1, are you overseas as well, to be posting at the UK time the website shows?

jaydee1 · 28/02/2008 08:53

Hi Scully - congratulations! that's lovely news, and I hope it eases a bit the pain of your m/c. I'm afraid that for the moment you may well be the only non-uk poster - I was just suffering a bit from insomnia (either that or the damn jasmine tea I had was loaded with caffeine - I was so exhausted I could barely stand up, then two hours later I was still wide awake - so decided to put it to some good use.) on the plus side as I lay there I reorganised the spare room to accommodate a new born. meant throwing out all of DH's "stuff", but oh well....
if anyone has any ideas on how best to hoodwink 15 people with whom I'm going on a skiing / drinking trip this evening (I will be neither skiing nor drinking) I'd be grateful. not sure the old antibiotics trick will work. suspect instead I'll be drinking a lot of vodka-less vodka & tonics. and maybe my old ankle injury will have to flare up...
have a great weekend everyone! I'm sure we'll have more Nov DD's here next week. v exicting!

jaydee1 · 28/02/2008 08:55

sorry Nov EDDS not Nov DDs. Still getting used to this lingo!

chickenmommy · 28/02/2008 10:01

Hi Scully - nice to see you join the thread. Congratulations on your wonderful new

Jaydee1 - I am also thinking of a homebirth. OH seems a bit nervous about this but I am hoping I can talk him round

Does anyone know what happens at a booking in meeting with midwife? Is this the time to say I want a homebirth? Not sure what sort of medical attention to expect - endless exams? hideous amounts of blood tests? (of which I have a mortal fear) or just general bullying about what not to eat, drink etc Is this about right or do I just have a very bleak mental picture?

Heartmum2Jamie · 28/02/2008 10:11

Wlecome Scully! How lovely to have another member expecting her 3rd! It must be quite poigniant to get a BFP the week of your EDD. HUGS.

Jaydee, I am glad to hear you are still pregnant and that it is only 1, lol! I am slightly worried that I may get to be scanned and get told I am having twins, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.
I suppose the most important things tyou should be doing right now are taking folic acid, stop drinking (my GP said NO alcohol in pregnancy now. Hmmm, that has changed since my last pregnancy. Not that I am much of a drinker anyway, but I did force do stout to help with iron in the third trimester because iron tablets in any shape or form do not agree with me). If you smoke, try and quit. Make sure all you fruit and veg is thoroughly washed, no runny eggs, no pate, only well cooked meats, no nuts, no blue veined cheese. sigh. So much we can't have or do..... but it is well worth it!

I hope everyone is having a good day so far. Today, I is mostly windy

Right, best go and put the washing out and then take the boys to the park like I promised.

Heartmum2Jamie · 28/02/2008 10:17

I would quite like to attempt a homebirth, but dh is adament that babe will be born in hospital. I suppose I can see his point as ds1 needed work as he wasn't breathing properly at birth. He didn't need to go ti SCBU or anything, but they worked on him at the resusitaire for a good 10 minutes. DS2 was born with congenital heart disease. We didn't know this at the time, or even find out until he was 9 months old, but I can see the point of wanting a new baby to be thoroughly checked by ds2's paediatrician.

I suppose Piggle (name of bump, ds2 likes In the Night Garden, so it's Iggle Piggle) will make the choice ultimately as ds2 arrived much quicker than we anticipated, after just 1 1/2 hours. The midwife joked not to sneeze past 39 weeks with any other children, lol!

Morning all! Can't stay long - just wanted to update our stats and say hi and congratulations to all of our new members! Yay - our groups is growing every day!

Got to go now to see to DS but thought I'd post up a couple of websites that people might find useful;

Birth Choice UK, good for finding out what your choices are locally

handy site for advice on nutrition, what you can and can't eat etc

I'll catch up with you all later!

Jojay · 28/02/2008 12:07

Hi guys - can I join you too?? I was posting on the October thread, but I've just been the the doctor who's told me my EDD is 1st / 2nd Nov, so I should be here instead!!

It'll be my second baby, I have a DS who's 15 months, so there'll be just under 2 years between them.

I'm a bit scared about having two little ones, although I know the age gap is not that small.

Just hoping for another baby as easy as DS!!

Congrats to you all xx

mum2becks · 28/02/2008 12:08

Hi and congratulations everyone! Please can I join, I got a BFP a couple of days ago, it wasnt planned so quite shocked (although not as shocked as dh was when I told him the news!!)

Just found this thread as didnt know about MN until after dd was born (dd 20mths by the way) so this will be my 2nd, not sure of exact EDD but think around the 4th Nov.

Havent told anyone except dh yet, I told close family quite early with my 1st but friends etc I waited until after 12 weeks so may do the same this time!!

mum2becks · 28/02/2008 12:13

Hi Jojay, I am a bit worried about having 2 little ones too but there are a few of us on here now with quite small age gaps so sure we will be just fine!!

Jojay · 28/02/2008 12:49

mum2becks I'm sure we'll be ok too - loads of people have a 2 year age gap - how hard can it be?! [optimistic emoticon]

I was very very suprised to be pregnant again though, it was our first month trying. I just laughed hysterically when I did the test - DS was looking at me as if I'd gone bonkers ( I think I temporarily had!)

Although it was the same with DS so I don't know why I was so surprised! But I feel very very lucky to conceive so easily.

DH is very happy too. I'm rubbish at keeping a secret so I've told a few people, including my Mum, and my boss and some other colleagues. I've only told people I've seen though, I haven't been phoning people to tell them IYSWIM.

Furtivelyposting thanks for those sites - they look good

FurtivelyPosting · 28/02/2008 13:55

Howdy all! DS is having a nap now, so I'm nipping in quickly before he wakes up.

Congratulations and Welcome, Jojay and mum2becks! Great to have you here! I've added you both to our list;

Jojay - EDD 1 November (#2)
Jaydee - EDD 1 November (#1)
Lilchick - EDD 1 November (#3)
Chickenmommy - EDD 2nd November (#1)
Heartmum2Jamie - EDD 3rd November (#3)
mum2becks - EDD 4th November (#2)
Furtively - EDD 4th November (#4)
Scully - EDD 5th November (#3)
Suiledonn - EDD 6th November (#2)
LardyMardyDaisyBoo - EDD 7th November (#3)

I'm also worrying about having two little ones once this baby is born. The smallest age gap between the three I have now is 5 years and once this baby comes along, DS will be 18 months old - I'll be coping with toddler tantrums and a newborn. Agh! It's not impossible but it will be a new experience for me. My sister had three of her children quite close together, so I could ask her for some tips!

The other thing I will have to look into is double prams/buggies. Does anyone have any experience of these or any recommendations?

As for sharing the news, I've been a bit scared to so far. Mainly because I'm worrying so much about it being early days still. DH knows obviously but not the two older children. I've also told one very close friend and I'm about to tell my sister (although she'll be under strict instructions not to tell her children in case they blab the news to mine before I've had a chance to tell them myself)! I ws planning to wait until at least 12 weeks or after the first scan but the problem is that I am so happy and excited, I don't know if I can keep the news to myself for much longer! I'll be waiting until 12 weeks before I tell any work colleagues, although I may have a word with my manager just in case things do go wrong and I have to have time off - it'll make a difficult phone conversation a tiny bit easier.

Jojay · 28/02/2008 14:06

I've thought lots about double buggies, and I've already bought a Phil and Teds Sport!!

Before that sounds really bonkers, I look after my goddaughter once a week who is the same age as DS, so I needed something to cart them both around in.

I love it, but I haven't used it with a newborn, although in double toddler mode it's great!

I like the fact that:

It converts to a single so when DS wants to walk I've still got a buggy I can use.

If DS wants to walk for a bit, then jump in later, I'm not pushing a huge thing around with an empty seat

I can push it with one hand while holding DS's hand or reins in the other.

It fits on the narrow pavements and towpaths in our village and is good across bumpy ground. A side by side type wouldn't have.

It's not too heavy compared to some.

It fels like you're only pushing one child even with 2 toddlers in it.

I don't like:

The brake - it's a bit stiff and awkward.

The price - v expensive!! Best deal I found was from Practical pushchairs.co.uk

FurtivelyPosting · 28/02/2008 14:47

Thanks, Jojay! That's just the kind of info I need - the good and the bad, how easy to use etc etc. I like the idea of one with a toddler seat in front and a newborn seat behins - I don't think I could manage a side by side model. Thanks for the website tip too. I'll have a quick peek!

Prams/travel systems and all that stuff is an absolute minefield and there's so much to get your head around. I have no idea about double prams at all (all I've decided on is that I don't want a side by side model). Thanks again, Jojay.

jaydee1 · 28/02/2008 15:06

chickenmommy - I found this great link by looking through other threads:

babyfry.com it gives details of all the hospitals and links to the individual sites.

but there's so much to think about and decide! DH doesn't want a homebirth, in case there are complications. (i think he's also thinking of our neighbours, and our white open-plan living area...) Having notions of high-maintenance and grandeur, on basis of v brief online research I've done, I've got to say I love the sound of St John's and Elizabeths (any of you others delivered there?) It's shockingly expensive tho. I'll just have to sell it to DH on basis of all the money I'm going to save us over next few months by not going out, ever... (which should get me about 4 hours in a room there)

but.. I like the idea of a doula as well.

sigh. maybe I need to change my name to utterlybaffledbychoicemumtobe.

I've just eaten 4 helpings of soup . While I tell myself I have a pregnancy-induced fathomable hunger, in fact I'm just terminably greedy, and have no symptoms at all yet other than bigger boobs (about time!!! that only took 20 years...) and getting weepy when I see pics of newborns. weird.

Egg · 28/02/2008 15:12

Hello just wanted to say big congrats to scully (and everyone else of course). Scully I remember you from our Feb thread and you sadly lost your little one . It's so nice that you have some good news this week as well as remembering this would have been your due time. Sending you lots and lots of luck for your November baby . Saw your post in the middle of the night last night while I was up feeding the DTs.

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 28/02/2008 15:22

Hi again. I did another test today just to make sure (like the three I'd done already weren't enough to convince me) and there were no doubts this time.

Thanks for the info on P&Ts jojay. I'd like one, but I'm not sure it's much of a ride for the poor kiddy slung underneath. Do your goddaughter and DS like it?

the hormones are already kicking in for me. It was my DSs assembly at school this morning and I was in tears .

My age gap will be 17 months, and I'm terrified of how I'll cope with it as I struggle at the moment with a 5 year old and a baby. We're not sure how to break it to our DS as he will ultimately have to give up his big bedroom for the two babies and go back to the little room. He's also quite a sensitive soul, and the two littles close together could make him feel a bit left out, as he already feels a bit polarised when I'm dealing with DD.

I'm still BFing her at the moment but I think that will need to stop soon, as my nipples are just soooo tender when she feeds (is that tmi too soon? )

Hi to everyone who has joined.

There is a Two or More under Two support thread on here. Maybe we should join?

DH and I have been going through all the changes we will need to make, and the biggest one is getting a car that can fit three car seats across the back. That's one in the eye for all the people who say it's not expensive going from two to three!!

I'm seeing the doc on Moday and hoping for a referral for an early scan due to previous MCs.

Sorry for a quick in and out, I'll look forward to getting to know everyone better soon

mum2becks · 28/02/2008 16:34

Great info on the P&T my dd will be nearly 2 and a half so was thinking about if to get a double buggy or not? she does walk at the min but not for very long before she asks to be carried or gets back in the pushchair! that may be a good solution as she can walk but if we are going a long way or she is tired there is a seat for her too!!

Also I am assuming there will be some jealousy so she may decide she wants to be in a buggy because the baby is?

I have been to see doc today just to start the process, I have been told the midwife will contact me nearer the time she will want to see me (which I thinks was about 8 weeks with my 1st?) and the referal has been sent to the hospital so will get my scan date through when its due. Think thats all I need to do for now unless anyone can think of anything??

I am feeling very tired today but have had a busy day and dd not had a nap so not had chance to rest, hoepfully she will be in bed early!!!

majormoo · 28/02/2008 22:27

Evening all. Can I tentatively join you? I have a DD who is 4 and DS who is 16months. I think my due date is 3rd Nov. (we have the same due date HM2J!) These early weeks are not easy.
