hey blobsmummy - i'm going with the urine infection. pre-eclampsia signs don't usually show (except for high bp) before week 20 as the placenta isn't mature by then - so i was told last time and also this time.

also apparently if it was an early wee of the day or if you had done it and it was anything more than 45 mins old the protein can increase rapidly - so they told me last time i was at the hospital!!!

sweetbean - let it all out - sounds like you have lots going on to be thoroughly p'd off about apart from having hormones going mad in pg!

all ok here not much to report, hope everyone else all ok

hayley how're you feeling now?

Hi

Haven't been on for a few days, computer has been playing up, finally got it to work! Things have been busy and builders started doing work on our house yesterday so it's going to be a bit hectic but worth it once it's done and will hopefully get rid of our slug problem when the house is done properly.

Have started feeling the baby move, wasn't sure the last few days but definitely felt it today. Managed to get a second hand moses basket off someone for free which i'm pleased about. Hope everyone else is ok.

AussieSim · 20/11/2007 20:39

I have a genuine question: Is there a protocol for being an 'accepted' member of the Antenatal Club, besides your due date? Should you ideally have to live in the UK or be from the UK or have lived in the UK previously? Is it preferred that it is your first baby? Does one have to comment on the last five or six posts before one can contribute what is going on with them in order to expect a response? Sometimes I feel like I am speaking a different language to everyone else - or maybe it is just the timezone I am posting in ...

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 20/11/2007 21:21

Hello Aussie! Everyone is welcome. I don't always comment on previous posters and I don't always get comments on my posts. Being a regular elsewhere on MN I don't feel neglected though! It's probably true that the more you post and the more you ask about other people, the more response you will get.

I see you're due the day before me - have you had a scan & met a midwife? Tell me about antenatal care in Aus (you must be sick of hearing what happens in the UK)!

walkingwomb · 20/11/2007 21:35

Damn your eyes, i came here to post on a nice clean thread, only to find I am WAY too slow

AussieSim - there are no rules. I am very lazy and hardly ever post on this but enjoy reading other people's posts.

IndigoBlue - we are (hopefully) moving into a new house in january and it needs craploads of work done to it. i am starting to panic that we wont' get it done before the wee one arrives adn I will give birth as the builders step over me, pausing only to wipe the dust from my fanjo.

On a more regular note - I think my tummy is starting to get hard, which is nice. Had midwife's appointment yesterday and heard the heard the heartbeat so all is fine. Otherwise I have a stinking cold and am eating lots.

WW xx

IndigoBlue · 20/11/2007 22:23

AussieSim - Hope you aren't feeling left out, don't think those things are true. When people ask questions about stuff they probably get more responses than when talking about how things are going generally but doesn't mean we don't read those posts or aren't interested.

Walkingwomb - I know what you mean about wanting the work done, we are still waiting to find out if we need planning permission for part of it which will really drag out the work if we do.

Hayley&baby - re the piles I would definitely go to the gp if they are bothering you & bleeding etc as they might be able to help and if you leave it they may get worse the more pregnant you get as the baby starts putting more pressure on that area. It's common to get them in pregnancy so don't suffer without getting it checked out.

coby · 20/11/2007 22:40

Aussie you are definitely welcome. I think posts get lost in the pages as there always seems to be a flurry of them at once. I asked a question a while ago and no-one replied but I think it was down to my post being drowned out by lots of others. I found the answer elsewhere on MN in the end

btw, this is mt first post on here for ages 'hallo everyone!'

All well this end as far as I can tell. Still getting some MS but no way near as bad as earlier. Sitting here getting little kicks already at 14+2 lucky me

Aussie welcome. I hardly ever comment on other posts, but I do enjoy the community feeling and always find answers in here in the end.
I know that if I need support I will find it.

Suffering from SPD (again!) with increasing pain in sacro iliac joints this time. Will have to see osteopath soon....

AussieSim · 21/11/2007 04:07

Thanks for your supportive posts. Sorry about being a bit 'me me me' and I know that threatened miscarriage and SPD are far bigger worries than mine. It is just that I am feeling a bit vulnerable 3rd time round being older. I only have a couple of weeks to decide whether I want to go ahead with the Amnio (my DH would rather I did but would not try force me), my hair is falling out in clumps and I've put on 4kg am only 13 weeks along I am also a bit worried about how DC3 will cope with having to be dragged around after DS1&2's commitments and all anyone around me seems to be worried about is whether it will be a girl or not and what names we are thinking of. In this case I am truly only concerned that it is healthy and that I will cope with 3.

slim22 · 21/11/2007 04:19

Oh Aussie!
There are no small worries!!! The prospect of an amnio would send any of us spinning. Sorry you feel let down!!
How old arre you? Why the amnio? Can't you have the CVS sampling at this stage?
Did you have a scarry reading with the nuchal?
Don't you start spoiling your joy with the weight now
Don't want to scare you but you're going to be so knackered running after 3 kids when this one is born taht it will fall off in no time.
Of course you will cope. the first 2 will help

Mitchell81 · 21/11/2007 07:18

Aussiesim, often posts are not answered, I think everyone just manages to read them and then posts. RE: Amnio - when do you have to decide? Would you do something if there was a problem?

I had a perfectly average pregnancy, told my baby was healthy and perfect turns out that wasn't the case when I had my daughter in 2000. She had dislocated hips, knees, various problems with joints, cleft palate and other thinsgs. Now looking back would I have terminated maybe, but now looking at my beautiful little girl who yes still has most of those problems. I wouldn't change her for the world. I know other people are different, but I thought my baby would be heathly no reason to think otherwise.
I am going through this pregnancy knowing that there is a 1 in 4 chance of it happening again, but praying it doesn't. Coping with 2 children in a wheelchair is impossible.

Glad everyones scans are going well.

Sorry for the long post

blobsmummy · 21/11/2007 09:10

Hi Slim22 and Mitchell81. To answer a few questions: I will be 39 when I have DC3. I need to decide about the amnio within the next 2 weeks. It would be super hard, but having consideration for my DH's feelings on the matter as well as the impact on DS1 and 2 I would terminate if I had a child with a syndrome (not for cleft palate and things of that nature). My NTS was 1:1897 which is not low risk and I was discouraged from a CVS as chance of miscarriage are higher for that procedure than for the Amnio.

I probably wouldn't be in this quandry if I hadn't read a thread on here about a mum with a NTS result of 1:5000+ who went on to have a DS Baby (and I told my DH about it).

All this worry is probably why my hair is falling out (Hi MrsStresshead - I kinda feel better that I am not alone)

I have always managed DS1 and 2 to a fairly rigid schedule and the result is two very secure and easy going kids who give me no trouble, but I know that I will not be able to do the same thing with the third as I will be running DS1 to school, sport etc and DS2 to pre-school etc and DC3 will just have to fit in around them ...

Don't get me wrong though, this baby was very much planned and I am thrilled to be pregnant. I know I will manage whatever happens but .... only human and all that.

coby · 21/11/2007 12:46

Hi Aussie,

I'm in a similar situation to you in that when No3 is born I will have DD1 who will have just turned 4 and DD2 who will have just turned 2.

They already have their set things that they do routinely and I did give some thought / panic to how I might find time for the baby too. I have decided that newborns like nothing better than the hustle and bustle of a busy house - especialy if there are older ones to watch and try to copy. This one will have to be thrown in the car in the middle of a nap etc becuase it is time to do the preschool pick up or school run but I think it probably won't mind that much. The one thing I'm not sure about is how to handle swimming with 3, I keep telling DD2 she'll have to learn doggy paddle by May

PS - you are allowed to be all 'me me me' right now as you can blame it all on the hormones and get away with it

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 21/11/2007 13:15

I will be 2 wks off my 39th birthday when DC4 is born. My nuchal was 1 in 350 which I'm actually quite happy with. DC3 was 1 in 80 and she's just fine (and I was only 35 then). I didn't have further tests done for her and I'm not this time either. Downs or spina bifida etc would be challenging with 3 other DCs but we'd manage.

Subsequent babies do fit into existing routines - because they have to. The first couple of months can be gruelling, they want feeding or changing just as you're leaving for school or they cry through an entire swimming lesson. I try hard to allow extra time for these emergencies and not try to fit too much in to a single day. DD1s class mums are fantastic and they'll be doing my school run for me for the first couple of weeks. I'm also hoping that this baby arrives during half-term! And I'm buying extra uniform so there is always something clean for school! And it all passes soon enough. (How I wish DC4 could arrive as a 2yo, I'll take toddlers over babies any day!).

Hayleyandbaby · 21/11/2007 13:25

Hi Everyone.

Aussie- Personally, I totally refused the blood tests for downs. If I had had them I wouldn't have an amnio. I would never terminate. I love my baby whether it's perfect in every way or has a disability. Only time will tell. But I'm only 22. I understand why people have them, particularly when they have other children to care for. I don't think it's a good idea. 1 in 100 people miscarry due to amniocentesis and I would never want to be one of those people. There's always errors that could result in the termination of a healthy baby. It adds stress to a pregnancy. I think the best thing is to chill, enjoy your baby and your pregnancy, and not test it for problems there may never be. It's too uncertain. But that's just me. I don't judge anyone who does do it.
Also, I'm sorry you've felt a little left out. I suspect it's partly because people tend not to want to comment on amnio as it's such a difficult decision for a mummy to make. I was a little shy on this thread at first but now I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT

Jacobandlysette- I'm fine thanks!! My bump has gone mental in the past week or so. It's really hard and really big and I look very pregnant! My headaches have gone but I still have my embarressing problems (piles and bloating ). I will visit the doctor Indigoblue, thanks. No matter how embarressed I get

Welcome to the new people. Especially Snooks- i think we've nattered on another thread at some point.

Duchess- so glad your scan went well. We can't stop looking at our scan pics

Hope everyone's well

cece · 21/11/2007 13:56

Hi Aussie,

I have spoken to you about this before but I am not having the amnio, even though my screening results were 1 in 50. (Well I am 99.9% sure I am not having it done.) I am 16 weeks this week so will need to decide if I do pretty soon. I will be 41 by the time this one arrives and TBH I am feeling pretty ancient. All my friends are past the child bearing stage so hoping to meet some new people once the LO arrives. DD and DS will both be in school next Sept...

cece · 21/11/2007 13:57

Off to MW appointment now though
