Thanks @Pancakes7!

Someone was asking about eggs on the last thread. You can have them raw or runny if they are lion stamped.

Pancakes7 · 03/04/2021 08:09

Regarding eggs. Nhs says the below.

What you can eat
• raw, partially cooked and fully cooked British Lion eggs (eggs with a lion stamp on them)
• foods with raw egg in them, such as mousse and mayonnaise, if they're from British Lion eggs
• eggs that are not British Lion, as long as the whites and yolks are cooked thoroughly until solid
What to avoid
• raw or partially cooked eggs that are not British Lion
• duck, goose or quail eggs, unless cooked thoroughly until the whites and yolks are solid

Link below for all foods to avoid during pregnancy.

Cheers @Pancakes7!
Had my booking appointment yesterday. Beginning to feel real but also not at all. Cannot believe it until get the ok at the 12 week scan on Thurs. Worried about that.
Strangely, I found out I'm 5'4 when I've thought I was 5'6 my whole life haha! So it did push my BMI up into the overweight category but midwife didn't seem concerned; she said most folk are around there.
On that note, my advised weight according to BMI kind of blows my mind - I've only ever reached the highest advised weight when eating about 1200 a day (mainly lettuce) and running 10ks every second day. Not maintainable, I was really skinny and had no fun in my life. It's a bit of a worry this blanket formula they apply.
Also so sad to hear the domestic abuse questions and how it's not uncommon for that to start when a woman is pregnant Sad sad world xx

HereWeGoooo · 03/04/2021 08:27

*common rather

Pancakes7 · 03/04/2021 08:29

@HereWeGoooo oh gosh I forgotten forgotten about those questions. Because I've already had DS they just use my notes from then and I let them know if anything has changed in the meantime regarding my health. How many weeks are you now? Is it normal to have your booking appointment that far on or is it delayed? It's normally at eight weeks here I think I had my chat at 7 1/2 weeks.

I completely know what you mean although my early scan gave me reassurance I can't fully enjoy it until I have my dating scan. Mine is a week on Tuesday. Annoying as I'm finally seeing family today in my brothers garden and it would've been the perfect time to tell them but I want to wait till after the scan.

HereWeGoooo · 03/04/2021 08:43

Going my LMP I'm 12w this Sunday but due to long cycles I'm more like 11w1d today.
I had an hour's phone call a week and a half ago which went through all the medical questions (maybe that was the "booking appointment"?) and yesterday was in the hospital to do urine sample, blood test, height, weight etc. Also got given the ready steady baby book (think that's NHS Scotland based) and vitamins. Although, the vits are just the very essentials (folic acid, vit D, vit C) so don't know whether to take them or buy the fancy ones again with allllll the things. Tempted to take them because they are way smaller than what I've been taking /gagging on a daily basis taking. But like the idea of the added extras you get with the ones you buy.
Best to wait til after the scan to tell. Also hate keeping a secret from people. Feel like it written all over my face. Actually not feeling much pregnant anymore so that's why I'm feeling nervous. Just got to keep the faith xx

Pancakes7 · 03/04/2021 08:55

@HereWeGoooo Oh that's interesting that they give you Vitamins, here you buy your own. i'm taking pregnacare they are huge but I'm okay with taking big tablets. We don't get that book either. I haven't even got my notes as I'll get them at the hospital this time apparently. It's all very different this time to when I had my DS even though that was only two years ago. I've got the same midwife though, so I'm glad about that.

I'm sure all will be fine on Thursday ❤️ I'll be thinking of you.

I'm keeping positive for my scan as I was measuring Nearly 8 weeks I've got past my six week hurdle. I'll just be really glad when it's done and I know everything is okay.

I'm actually feeling pretty anxious about next week as I have my first day back at work on Wednesday after just under two years. It's also DS first full day at nursery. I think with all that going on I don't have as much time to stress about the scan. I don't know if that's good or bad. I definitely got pretty teary yesterday at the thought of not seeing my son all day. I think I hadn't really thought about it properly yet. All happening at once at the moment.

Thanks @Pancakes7 🙂

HereWeGoooo · 03/04/2021 10:02

@pancakes the idea of working might be worse than the reality. You will enjoy seeing colleagues, having time to yourself, remembering who you were pre-kids. But take it easy you don't need to be employee of the year!! Just ease in, do what you can, it won't be long til you're off again! I know you'll have your son on your mind, but try to see it as just a wee work refresher and short timeout from being mum!

PumpkinEverything · 03/04/2021 10:36

Thanks for making a new thread @Pancakes7 😊 can’t believe we’re on the third one already!

Pancakes7 · 03/04/2021 10:50

@HereWeGoooo Aw thanks. Yeah I know I'll get used to it. It's just so strange thinking about someone else cuddling him, feeding him and putting him down for his nap ❤️

Hopefully work will keep my mind off of. X

Bellabubble · 03/04/2021 11:08

@Pancakes7 thank you for the new thread :)

@HereWeGoooo I remember reading once about rugby players who are often “heavy” on the weight side due to so mich muscle, and how that skews their BMI so much that some of them can be classed as in the obese category. It’s sad because there will be people that can get fixated on things like that in an unhealthy way (my mum is a prime example of this! We never had scales in the house, and Mum still doesn’t as she knows she will fixate if she isn’t a certain weight - even though she knows that weight is unhealthy for her height!)

Does anybody know what happens at the second midwife appointment? After my dating scan, my midwife said to call her to arrange an appointment for week 16/17 - just wondering what it involves! More bloods? I haven’t been told I’ll be having a glucose test - is that a common one to have?

Bellabubble · 03/04/2021 11:15

@Pancakes7 I’m a primary teacher (but an Early Years specialist) and used to teach the Nursery/Year R split class in my old school (it was such fun!) I always used to feel for the parents when little ones had their first longer day - but for him, I’m sure his day will whizz by (I can’t promise it will be the same for you, although I’m sure catching up with work buddies as well as the work will help the day go by a bit more - but I always say to my parents no news from us is good news!) Have they got any online learning journey program (might be called Tapestry, or see-saw is another popular one) or do the do photos in books? I found the online ones were often a great way to get updates over the day of all the fun stuff they were doing!

imisscoffee · 03/04/2021 11:16

Thanks for the new thread!

@Bellabubble what's your blood type? Pre Covid the appointment would usually be wee sample, blood pressure, listening to heartbeat and chat about birth options, feeding choices etc. If you're Rhesus negative, it also means more bloods to determine baby's blood type, then they know whether you need anti D or not. This is new for me, for DD and DS they just gave me anti D anyway, never mentioned checking baby's blood. Round here the appointment is over the phone at 16 weeks unless you're Rhesus negative.

imisscoffee · 03/04/2021 11:18

Also, glucose tolerance test isnt offered to everyone, it's just if you fall into the risk category. Normally it's much later on (28+ weeks I think? I'm thinking of when I did it back in 2014/2015 mind) but because of my BMI I need two- one at 12-14 weeks and one later on.

Bellabubble · 03/04/2021 11:26

@imisscoffee ahh cool - thank you! I’m O+ which the Dr told me at my surgical management last year :) It would be nice to hear the heartbeat again, now I’m 15weeks, and my dating scan was at 13weeks, it seems like ages away to my next scan. I’m in that weird stage where my symptoms have finally cleared up - they have been tailing off this last week, my bump is there but not massive, and I can’t feel movement as it’s too early - so I don’t feel like I’m pregnant much at the mo!

vitaminb33 · 03/04/2021 13:33

Thank you for the new thread @Pancakes7!

@imisscoffee I'm rhesus negative and the midwife also just told me about this new blood test, quite pleased because while usually I'm good with jabs the last anti D jab I had reaaally hurt.

Pancakes7 · 03/04/2021 14:00

@Bellabubble Yeah the 16 week appointment is mostly a chat, blood pressure, urine sample and listening to babies heartbeat. You'll have regular appointments all much the same till baby is born.

Diabetes test is only for people at risk. High bmi or medical/ family history.

Firevie · 03/04/2021 14:02

@Pancakes7 thanks for the new thread. Have we hard from Greenrubber recently?

I’m 11+6 today and am very excited to go into the second trimester in couple of weeks. I’ve got my nhs nuchal scan and combined screening this Thursday. Bit nervous about it but I’m sure it will all be fine. Praying for all results to come back all great. I want to start telling people and more importantly it would be nice being less on edge.
How are you all feeling?
I will get the glucose test but not because of BMI but because I’m of Indian heritage and apparently they fall in the increased risk category. My sugars are usually fine when I get my blood tests done but I’m glad I’m getting it done. Xxx

imisscoffee · 03/04/2021 16:39

@vitaminb33 anti D is so painful, glad it's not just me!! When I had the bleeds last time, they made me have it each time, even though it apparently lasts in your system for months and my bleeds were every week. I had 4 doses in the end.

Lovely scan photo @Cafeaulait27!

I'm 12+1 today, which on one hand means my chance of miscarriage has lessened, but I was 12 weeks when things started going wrong last time, and each time I had an emergency scan they'd show me the heartbeat and say "look, baby's well, everything's fine." His heart never stopped until he was born. Trying to stay positive that I've got to this point, and I've got my consultant appointment next week which will hopefully include a scan at around 16/17 weeks for reassurance.

We saw my DH's grandparents yesterday and told them about this baby. We haven't seen them since July so my last pregnancy and everything that happened with Frank was told over the phone, mostly by DH's mum because I didn't want to talk about it right away. His nan took me to one side and was so so lovely. She told me about a miscarriage she had back in the 70s and how nobody would talk about it then, you'd just feel like a failure in secret. I know we've still got a way to go, but I'm so glad we've got places like this to talk about our losses and fears this time around, and people are starting to talk about baby loss more openly.

Sorry for the heavy post! In lighter news, Nosecco fake prosecco from Asda is lovely, especially in the garden in the sunshine! 🍾🌞

smarty4 · 03/04/2021 17:13

@Pancakes7 @imisscoffee I had anti D after my son 4 years ago but must have been in such a haze I don't remember it hurting. Not looking forward if it's painful this time round.

Pancakes7 · 03/04/2021 19:51

@Firevie I'm very emotional again today. Had another cry. I can't remember if I mentioned I cried yesterday. Hormones going crazy I think. I'm still having lots of nausea.

My scan is now just over a week away. I can't wait! Same as you I just want to be able to tell people!

@imisscoffee I'm so glad you could chat to your DH's grandmother and she opened up to you. It's definitely getting discussed more nowadays but as you said, still a long way to go.

OP posts:
marplemead · 04/04/2021 11:28

@Pancakes7 How are you feeling today? It's normal to feel emotional during pregnancy. I cried most days when nausea was at its worst. It's worth asking your GP for anti-sickness meds, if you are not on them already.

@imisscoffee I hope you get a reassurance scan at 16wks. I have a consultant appointment then and she said it will include a scan. And yes, it must have been harder for the older generation. My MIL had 5 MCs, and has been a great support, but it's allowed her a chance to talk about what happened to her.

@Firevie I'm also getting the GTT as a precaution because of my ethnicity. Like you, my bloods have never shown an increased risk, but glad to be getting it anyway.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Easter Sunday? I feel quite nauseous, but determined to have a nice day. DD was up early for her Easter egg hunt, and DH has taken her out for the morning so I can rest. We have an afternoon tea in the garden planned for later with scones, cakes and sandwiches. MIL is joining us now that we are allowed. I probably won't enjoy any of the food, but I love feeding others, so it should still be lovely.

PumpkinEverything · 04/04/2021 11:47

Happy Easter everyone!
Sounds lovely @marplemead and I really hope you get to enjoy even some of the food 🤞🏻
We are going to have a bit of a roast dinner, so going to make honey roast carrot & parsnips (which should be interesting as I’ve really not been eating many vegetables), roast potatoes and then I’m hoping ive got some Yorkshire’s in the freezer as I forgot to check 🙈 I’m veggie so undecided what to have for my ‘meat’ but have lots of quorn stuff in the freezer. Also hoping to make a Victoria sponge as I’ve been thinking about one for the last two weeks so thought this was a good excuse!

Hope you’re feeling a bit better today @Pancakes7 are you crying because you’re sad or is it at silly things?

That’s really nice she spoke about it @imisscoffee and it really does make me so grateful for having mumsnet. I honestly don’t think I’d have got through my MMC without it at all, as it’s just not the same speaking to your support in real life if they haven’t experienced it as they don’t quite understand. Even getting through this pregnancy has been so so much easier with all you guys, as again, the 3 people I told have never experienced loss so don’t understand the specifics of my stress.
