Morning @Lilice I'v looked at same nappy bin. John Lewis have it for £40 with 6 refills.
Tommie tipee website says the below!! For newborn at the start, a cassette would only last 1 week.. It's a lot of plastic and expense.
I'm not sure and like you I don't fancy going outside everytime!
How long will the Sangenic Tec Refill cassette last?
That depends on how often you change your little one’s diaper, and the size you’re using. The refill cassette should last approximately 3-4 weeks (based on 3 x size 1 nappies per day).

sianyflewog · 18/05/2020 08:57

@ShiningStarz Surely that answer is designed to trick you because when they’re in size 1/2 nappies, you’re changing them more like 8 times a day. It would be more useful to know how long it would last with size 3/4 nappies which they wear for a lot longer (I found that these are the sizes to stock up on if you’re thinking of buying a lot of nappies in advance!) - I’d say 2 weeks max based on their previous answer. How much are the refills?
We just had a bin outside the backdoor (our bin lorries have special nappy collections), and dirty ones went straight in there. All other nappy changes, went in a bin in the bedroom until I made a trip with a dirty one.

sianyflewog · 18/05/2020 09:04

Or have you seen the vitalbaby odour trap bin? It’s more expensive to begin with, but no refills - you just use regular bin bags. It has good reviews on John Lewis x

ShiningStarz · 18/05/2020 10:25

Thanks @sianyflewog the one you
Mention is £45 on Argos, it seems good. Still have to use nappy disposal bags which is the case anyway with the ordinary disposal but at least there are no refills and unnecessary plastic. Thanks!!

ShiningStarz · 18/05/2020 12:23

Review on that nappy bin not great! Bin with lid it is lol

pangolin84 · 18/05/2020 15:03

I can’t remember whether we’ve talked about car seats - if we did I blocked it out 😂
I started having a look online yesterday and quickly felt overwhelmed! Some of them seem to be able to clip into prams - is this a useful feature? I read that babies shouldn’t spend prolonged periods in their car seat so it doesn’t seem like such a great feature, unless I’m missing something?

Roxy8203 · 18/05/2020 15:26

@pangolin84 this isn't from experience as I don't have children yet but I understand it's good if the baby falls asleep in the car that you can attach the car seat to the pram if your just popping out for shopping for example. They aren't meant to be in the seat for more than 2 hours is what I've read.

Lazydaisydaydream · 18/05/2020 15:54

Wanted to update the thread, got the first of our test results back today and got really low odds for down syndrome, Edwards syndrome and patau (1 in 50000) and negative tests for all the viral infections they were looking for. Just waiting on cystic fibrosis genetic testing now. Feel like I can breathe a bit more easily. They said they’ll review everything again at my 28 week scan (I’m 24.5 now).

Lazydaisydaydream · 18/05/2020 15:56

@pangolin84 we didn't bother getting a car seat which attached to our pram, as we had a Cosatto pram and the Cosatto car seats test terribly in safety tests. I think there was only once that I ever thought it would have been handy! My son hated the car seat though so if he'd been happy to sleep in there maybe I would have felt differently?

I think newborns can only spend 30 mins in a car seat and then at some point it goes up to 2 hours?

Sara7455 · 18/05/2020 16:06

@pangolin84 I’ve heard a lot of people say the ones that clip onto the buggy are more of a hassle than anything else- heavy to lift in and out all the time and variable in how easy they are to clip on. Not to mention they can’t stay in there that long anyway - we live 40mins from town so for us it’s unlikely I’ll have driven somewhere for a short enough time to make it worth it.
We’re getting the joie 360 car seat which everyone seems to recommend to us as loving. Meant to be easy to get baby in and out as it swivels to face you to pop them in and then back into position. Also suitable from birth to age 4 so lasts a decent amount of time.

Sara7455 · 18/05/2020 16:07

@Lazydaisydaydream that’s such good news from your results! Can’t imagine how relieved you must be!

WillowT · 18/05/2020 16:42

Hi,

We're getting a separate car seat rather than one that clips in and out. We've been recommended to get one that swivels as much easier when putting little one in and out.

We had a good chat with a sales lady in John Lewis just before lockdown but it was too early for us to buy then but if/when we can go back, we will. I can't remember which one was recommended off the top of my head but def involved the swiveling!

@Lazydaisydaydream Great news!!

ShiningStarz · 18/05/2020 17:34

Flip reading these is changing my mind in the car seat clicking into pram!! I think cause of covid will I really need to be clicking a car seat into a pram between sept and mar! I'll prob not be taking little one anywhere In the first. 6 months!
Arghh! So stressful

ShiningStarz · 18/05/2020 17:59

@Lazydaisydaydream that's great and I hope you are feeling reassured now. 💜

Lilice · 18/05/2020 18:18

@ShiningStarz which one has good reviews?

Lilice · 18/05/2020 18:24

@Lazydaisydaydream happy days, that's great news!

@pangolin84 I've always had a carseat that clips into the buggy because mine always fell asleep in the car but they would wake up if I tried to transfer them

I think I'm going to go for the angel care nappy bin. I saw one on Amazon with 3 refill cassettes for 16 quid. I think for that price I can give it a go and if I dont like it I won't have lost much money

Lilice · 18/05/2020 18:25

Its actually 13.99 so even better 😁

emma278 · 18/05/2020 18:49

Weve bought the tommee tippe bin purely because we were doing a John Lewis haul and just added it on. Hoping its worth it xx

pangolin84 · 18/05/2020 19:34

Thanks for the car seat insight everyone! It seems like you need to know what your baby will be like before they even arrive. It makes it harder thinking that we may not be able to get out to a shop and try out some of the options. And get advice!

ChipsAreLife · 18/05/2020 21:25

@Lazydaisydaydream that's amazing news! How are you feeling? So pleased for you.

Re car seats we've always had one you can take out, it's not just about putting on the pram in winter/rain I found it easier to put them in it in the house. We then got one that swings round for when they're one, they're fab! But I do find the car seats you take out a godsend when they fall asleep and you're popping to supermarket etc so you can just pop it in the trolley and they snooze!

I had a nappy bin and never used it!! I just used to take nappies to the outside bin, never really bothered me.
