Hi all

Just thought I would get this set up so that we had somewhere to go at the end. Will link to it in the old thread. Can’t believe we reached the limit so soon!!!

That must be scary @Feelthefear01 but you must feel reassured that your midwife isn’t concerned 😊 What has surprised me is how different pregnancy is for different people (and different babies!) and complications can arise at any time, often with no warning or explanation. Hopefully because they know what is causing the bleeding they will be keeping an eye on things and are supporting you with any concerns xx

Fig20 · 12/04/2020 11:46

Has anyone had a big jump in weight in the second trimester? I was gaining steadily (weighing myself once a month) and I weighed myself today and have gained nearly 9lbs in a month 😳 So I have gained 19lbs so far which seems like loads. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve not been at work so I’m moving less but I have been eating healthily. It seems a lot in such a small amount of time. I have been drinking loads with the warm weather so I don’t know if that will have an impact. I’m only 21 weeks!! 😄 I know that as long as baby is healthy that is what matters but I don’t want to put him at risk by gaining too much chub Xx

StephD2020 · 12/04/2020 12:36

Hey @Feelthefear01, I agree with @Fig20 - at least you are being closely monitored and of course it's brilliant that they know what it is and can maintain things with you. I'm sure everything will work out just fine, and probs a good thing we are all locked down right now to stop you overdoing things!

I think I'm getting sciatica as I keep getting stabbing pains in my left butt cheek - will mention to my midwife at my next appt I think.

@Fig20 you are not alone! I've gained around 2 stone which is horrifying! 😱 I'm 24 weeks today. Hoping that I won't end up with gestational diabetes or anything like that so once the Easter treats are out the way I will defo be trying to eat much more sensibly!! Soooooo hard though being home all the time TEMPTATION EVERYWHERE......

Fig20 · 12/04/2020 12:49

@StephD2020 haha Easter is a nightmare especially with being at home all the time. 😄 Thank you, you’ve put my mind at ease that I’m not alone. I’ve been reading up on it and apparently some people gain a lot of their weight in the second trimester and not so much in the third so hoping this is the case otherwise I’ll be huge. I started off at a healthy weight so should apparently only gain between 25-35 lbs by the end! 🤣 Only time will tell I guess 😄

I hope you get some help with the sciatica :( it sounds very painful! X

heroineinahalfshell · 12/04/2020 14:35

@Feelthefear01 I'm sorry you're having a worrying time, I hope the midwives are reassuring you.

@Fig20 I've only gained 7lb total, but 5lb of that in the last 2 weeks!! I have a BMI of 31 tho, so I'm not supposed to gain as much as mum's who started out a healthy weight. I'm definitely not trying to keep the weight down, but have found I crave healthy snacks rather than crisps and chocolate which is a blessing! Lots of easter eggs in the house now tho Blush

Fig20 · 12/04/2020 20:29

@heroineinahalfshell ahh that’s awesome! :) It definitely seems like the weight comes on in waves (on the scales anyway). Do you guys have days where you feel lots of movement then days where you hardly feel anything? X

Louisaizzy · 12/04/2020 22:45

Mine starts moving about late afternoon (for my other kids when they were babies, I called this witching hour when they are their most irritable) and evenings baby moves after I’ve eaten. X

Fig20 · 13/04/2020 11:42

@Louisaizzy 😂 the witching hour😂 that’s brilliant!
Some days I can feel him loads then others I can barely feel him. I know you’re not supposed to track movement until later on in the pregnancy so I’m guessing it’s normal. He’s probably just moved 😊 xx

MaisieMolly · 13/04/2020 14:09

@Fig20 I’m the same at 23 weeks. Sometimes I feel her moving a lot (most noticeable when I’m sitting down and relaxing) some days I don’t feel her much at all. I think it’s at around 28 weeks that it will become a more noticeable pattern.

With weight, I haven’t put on as much as i thought looking at the scales, about 6 pounds. But I have a noticeable bump and I was also slightly overweight beforehand (BMI 27). Hopefully it’s my healthy eating and no alcohol balancing out. I also used to do quite a lot of strength training and I’m losing muscle which is heavier than fat. I will check at the next midwife appointment to make sure it’s right though!

Laurensw89 · 13/04/2020 18:08

Hi everyone! I’m majorly late to the party but can I join in? Due 18th August and starting to go a bit stir crazy with the lockdown and a toddler in tow. Being in a food coma from all the Easter eggs probably hasn’t helped the energy levels!

I hope you’re all keeping well Smile x

Firstmummytobe · 13/04/2020 23:43

Wow guys,
Today I experienced my first bout of braxton hicks, and when I say I’ve never felt pain like it in my life I mean it, so bad I took a trip to the hospital as advised by my midwife.

This is my first baby and now i have never been more scared for labour because jeeeeez That hurt, and if that hurt then ...!!!
My pain threshold is very very low...

Listened To little mans heartbeat and he was all fine and now he’s kicking away happy as Larry😊

Has anybody else experienced any braxton hicks yet?

EL1984 · 14/04/2020 07:16

@Firstmummytobe ConfusedConfused
That sounds scary, poor you!
I'm also scared about how painful labour is going to be, I've been recommended the positive birth company videos and have gone from a mindset of signing up for the epidural ASAP to giving it a go with a pool/ gas and air etc..... now I'm not so sure .... if Brixton hicks are that badShock

Bert2020 · 14/04/2020 09:39

Hello all,
I joined in a while back but with one thing and another slipped away again. I’m now just past 21 weeks with dc2. Had the anomaly scan last week and finally feels real. Due August 22nd but will arrive early.

StephD2020 · 14/04/2020 17:07

Hi @Bert2020 welcome back! Do you know what you are having?

@EL1984 that was my plan but @Firstmummytobe sounds to me like I might need a back up! 😱 glad that it was just Braxton hicks though. Didn't realise you could get them this early!

I had a rare day off yesterday and stupidly started researching what my local health authority is doing re the actual birth. I know August is far away in theory but I found out that Edgware birth centre (the midwife led unit) is closed until the end of August, pools are out of action at Barnet (where I was planning to go) and in addition, a total ban on home births (which was what I was leaning towards given the current crisis). So now I've stressed myself out to the max. What a wally, I know, but now fully stressed out beyond belief! 😫 oh and I read that gas and air might be limited too based on that it might promote transmission of the virus. Anyone else got any facts to counter this? 🙏🏻

Bert2020 · 14/04/2020 18:52

Thank you @StephD2020 expecting a boy, dc1 is girl and I was expecting another so a bit of a shocker. We didn’t find out first time around but this time have done so to help her as she was obsessed with a sister so glad we’ve found out and she is happy.

I saw that they’ve discredited the gas & air not able to be used and my hospital are still using it.

Braxton hicks can be worse than the real thing and I’ve had a friend not realise she was in labour because it wasn’t hurting like the bh.

Stephi89 · 16/04/2020 08:31

We have a wee facebook group for parents in scotland/ who are scottish if anybody is interested?its for all 2020, not a specific month but we are a friendly bunch

NamiSwan · 17/04/2020 14:27

Hey everyone, hope everyone is well! I've been AWOL on the thread for a while as so busy trying to keep on top of full time work and childcare of a 4 and 6 year old 😱

@firstmummytobe I've been getting Braxton Hicks for a while, probably since about 20 weeks (I'm 25 weeks now). Mine don't hurt as such, its more a feeling of extreme tightening and hardness in my belly. Got DH to feel my belly during an episode of Braxton hicks and he couldn't believe how solid it had gotten!

@EL1984 don't stress about the pain of labour, mostly as there isn't much you can do about it 😑. Having been through it twice, with my first labour back to back (so, doubly painful), I will say that yes, it bloody hurts!! But that there are definitely ways to manage the pain. With my first I got very stressed with everything and it made things worse. I just felt very unprepared despite having been to nct classes etc. I was determined to have a better experience second time round and did hypnobirthing and read a book called "juju sundins birth skills". It was the best thing I did! I also practiced breathing techniques in yoga. My second labour was an absolute dream! I've since recommended the birth skills book to two friends of mine who were pregnant with their first and both had straightforward labours with no pain relief other than paracetamol. It's a small sample, but I'd say it cant hurt to try. With my first pregnancy I found there just wasnt any concrete information out there on what you should actually do during childbirth, so I really appreciated it second time round when I found the birth skills book.

AAJJ83 · 18/04/2020 18:35

Hi All, can I join in?? Due 26 Aug with my 3rd. Feeling pretty crappy ATM think it’s this lock down and having a 7 and 4 year olds running around! I’m almost 22 weeks and I’m still exhausted and feeling ‘off’ anyone else the same? X

Bert2020 · 19/04/2020 11:14

Welcome @AAJJ83 it’s definitely not the best with having the older ones at home without being able to go places to run off steam. My daughter is 3 and normally we are out every day doing one thing or another and she went to preschool 3 mornings which helped. I’m up & down energy wise, some days fab other days I just want a nap! 22 weeks too.

1Jayne · 19/04/2020 20:59

Hi all, hope it's ok for me to join. I'm due around the 15th August with my 1st, I'm fairly laid back right now but starting to get a little nervous due to antenatal classes not currently running and I'm concerned I know nothing about birth or babies!

LoloFuentes · 20/04/2020 17:26

@1Jayne I have the Bounty app on my phone which I think is really good. Plus you also have other resources like nhs website-very informative. Don’t worry if you think you don’t know much about babies. There isn’t a 1 book for all babies. Babies tend to communicate well with their mothers. It’s almost like it comes naturally and you will know what to do. You will also have midwives and health visitors.... oh and also mothers, aunts, nanas and friends to help. x

1Jayne · 20/04/2020 20:33

@LoloFuentes Thanks for this. I'm just feeling under prepared, I don't live near family so was hoping the classes would help me feel more like I knew what to do/what I needed to do. At least I know I'm not the only one in this situation!

LoloFuentes · 20/04/2020 21:09

We have each other on this group here as well. XX

StephD2020 · 21/04/2020 07:31

Hi @1Jayne not sure where you are based but my antenatal classes are with bump and baby and they are going online so still going ahead which I'm relieved about as it's our first baby too. I'm based in North London and my classes start 1 June so I'm also secretly hoping that the restrictions may be eased a little by then so we can do at least some face to face! Oh and they have discounted them if they run online so the whole course is £200 (I know that won't suit everyone's budget).

@LoloFuentes you're right about having each other on the group - it's been a god send of late for me, especially when I've been worried/anxious, it's calming to see we are all in the same boat together! X

LoloFuentes · 23/04/2020 09:19

Hi everyone how are you all getting on with buying baby stuff? I’ve never been a fan of shopping online but can’t take chances now with the lockdown in place. Has anyone finished their shopping yet? 😁
