@newbyxx ohh are the growth scans nhs ones? I was told by nhs that the 20wk scan is going to be the last one hence I booked a package of future scans privately.

hjbows88 · 07/01/2020 22:22

@umabb I think I am starting to feel movements but not with any consistency. Today haven’t really felt anything but did a bit yesterday. This is partly why I keep doubting whether I’m feeling anything at all! I’m a bit behind you at 16+3 but I think until 24 weeks we can expect quite a lot of variation :)

Larrydavid · 07/01/2020 22:25

@Twittlebee fingers crossed you are fine. It's good that they are keeping a close eye on you. How early was your last labour?

@RPPs losing a baby at 20weeks would be heartbreaking, I'm sorry that happened to your sisters friend. I'm glad they're being cautious - consultant led care is an extra level of reassurance, you're right. They can stitch me if they need to. I'd just like to know now. Hopefully all will be fine. I'm glad it went well for you! X

MissisBee · 07/01/2020 23:17

Had my 16 week midwife appointment today. Got my whooping cough jab - ouchy arm! Didn't listen to heartbeat, apparently NICE guidelines no longer recommend listening at 16 weeks.
Although I've been feeling movement for a few weeks, it's really not consistent and I maybe only notice once or twice a day. As hjbows88 says, I think it's more important after 24 weeks.
I'll be getting growth scans this time as DS was small for dates. My maternity notes are quite informative as to their criteria for doing different things, such as growth scans. I'm finding it quite interesting bedtime reading!

Twittlebee · 07/01/2020 23:55

Yes, dont worry @umabb , variation in movement is the norm at this stage and continues to be the norm till about 26 weeks which is when we should start monitoring our babies' movements.

Yes, very glad they are monitoring me closer this time @Larrydavid . They didnt keep a close eye on me last pregnancy despite my previous pre term labour they as they said it wouldnt happen again... well it did and it happened a lot earlier, started early labouring at 27+3 with baby finally delivered at 28+4 via EMCS. Moved hospitals this time.

APD1981 · 08/01/2020 01:42

Had a bit of a scare tonight with a little bleed. I've been constipated (nothing new there) and I really had to strain to go (sorry - tmi). I wiped and I have blood. A bit of red with some pink. The panic set in and immediately phoned midwife triage. Midwife thinks it's to do with straining and mentioned that we don't know where my placenta is yet(assume she's thinking it might be low?). I've had no more blood since (happened 9pm), I've had no pain, and I can feel baby moving so midwife said monitor it but she thinks it's fine.

Going to take regular laxido and lactulose now to try and stop having to strain again. That was very, very scary!

newbyxx · 08/01/2020 06:41

@umabb mine in Devon are through the nhs yeah x

umabb · 08/01/2020 07:32

@hjbows88 @Twittlebee thanks ladies, good to know it's normal. It was really lovely to feel the moves but then worry when don't feel nothing - worry really is my new norm Blush

I really hope I will get to hear /see the baby before my next scan which is on Feb 5 (so far away). Shame that they now stopped listening to heartbeat at the 16wk appointment. I'll see how mine goes this Friday..

umabb · 08/01/2020 07:35

@APD1981 that is scary! Glad no more bleeding that's definitely a good sign. I think keep monitoring today if still feel unsettled go for a reassurance scan - nhs can at least do that for us? I check carefully if any colour everytime I go to the loo as well.. pregnancy is such a challenge to the heart!

umabb · 08/01/2020 07:38

@newbyxx it's good that they have the growth scans in Devon. I live in Surrey. I was told that except if I need reassurance I may have extra scans, which I don't believe is going to be easy to get, the 20wk one is the very last one.

umabb · 08/01/2020 07:44

@RPPs thanks x how's the new pillow ? Hopefully you get better sleep and the husband found place to sleep too Wink
I also ordered a U shape one I think called queen rose (missed this post before I ordered it!) I guess it's the same concept and it looked very soft in the videos. It arrives today hopefully. I'll test and let you all know how it goes x

chocolate26 · 08/01/2020 08:46

@APD1981 that must of been scary! So glad your midwife isn't worried and you've had no more bleeding. This whole thing is so worrying! I'm always worrying about something.

What has everyone bought so far? I'm suddenly feeling unprepared and worried at how quickly time is going and how so far we only have a few vests and a few pairs of socks, oh and a couple of baby grows but they are in a 3-6 months! We also need to decorate the whole room. I'm planning on breast feeding and expressing so we need all stuff for that aswell 😳 it suddenly seems so much to do in not that long!

chocolate26 · 08/01/2020 08:49

Oh and my DH has this plan that we are waiting until after my baby shower at 34 weeks to see what we get in gifts (30 people coming) before we buy stuff just so we don't have too much stuff or double of things! Is this a good or bad idea? I'm not sure it's going to work well 😂

Smiffette · 08/01/2020 08:51

@chocolate26 I've not bought anything really other than a Moses basket starter kit. My friend is giving me theirs, my sister in law has given me her baby bath and a little bouncer seat thing.
My parents are buying the travel system for us so will probably order that in the next few weeks to make sure it's here and all working.
Won't buy the rest of the nursery set until March pay day I suspect to try and spread the cost!

BabyBird20 · 08/01/2020 09:43

I had a scare yesterday with some unexplained bleeding at 17 + 2 so ended up at docs who referred me to epac. Luckily had no more bleeding since but had a scan this morn and all is well, little bean is not so little any more!! Now waiting for an emergency anti d injection just in case and have to start aspirin for my blood pressure! I was just starting to relax into pregnancy a bit and now back to major anxiety levels!! 😬😬

peetieswie · 08/01/2020 10:08

Midwife appointment this afternoon. Definitely need the reassurance of hearing a heartbeat!

I've only bought the next to me bed but have been obsessively looking at prams and car seats. Decided I want a cybex car seat as you can make it lie flat so if they fall asleep in it and you don't want to wake them, you can let them sleep in it outside of the car. We'll get that new.

Also want an egg or icandy pushchair but we'll get that second hand. Been on fb marketplace but husband says it's too early and he's probably right. Mum has offered to buy us a new pram but I feel guilty so I'll let her buy the second hand one.

Also bought a tonne of cloth nappies! I'm going to give lots to my friend for now and use a cloth nappy library to start with though.

Twittlebee · 08/01/2020 10:13

It's a brilliant idea! @chocolate26 ! There isnt anything you cant buy last minute anyway! Sales are always on too.

Is anyone else having a baby shower too? I didnt get one with DS (my family told me it was a stupid idea but since had actually hosted them for my sisters!) And unfortunately although we had one planned with DS2 it didnt quite happen because he was born and then died before the date (born at 28 weeks, died at 29, baby shower planned for 34 weeks). I'd like one this time but scared same thing will happen again

mrssunshinexxx · 08/01/2020 10:17

That was amazing hearing the heartbeat was incredible I cried.. a lot

peetieswie · 08/01/2020 10:19

@twittlebee So sorry to hear that. I don't think I'm going to have one as I hate organising things like that and done want to inflict it on anyone else as well as having friends who haven't been able to conceive, but if you want one, I say go for it! You've been very unlucky and your last experience was obviously heartbreaking but I think you just have to think positively and enjoy this pregnancy.

Twittlebee · 08/01/2020 10:44

Yes that's certainly the thing to consider and is amazing that you're considerate of those struggle to conceive @peetieswie too (I had an invite to a baby shower during my MMC and my friend had a go at me for not attending!! I was very shocked!).

It was my sister who kindly organised my last baby shower for me, it still sort of went ahead. We had everyone over still just for lunch which was nice. So I guess I have had one but yes like you said, I just want to make memories and enjoy this pregnancy whilst it lasts. It's why we had our immediate family over for a small gender reveal over tea and cake this time.

mrssunshinexxx · 08/01/2020 10:54

@Twittlebee that's really sad I'm sorry. It won't happen to you again you are going to bring your baby home. Have the baby shower xx

AmyMaria2 · 08/01/2020 11:06

20 week scan came through today, next Wednesday, was getting worried as I'm 19 wks now! Also got consultant and midwife, going to be a busy week next week. 💙

hjbows88 · 08/01/2020 11:20

Hi all - for those with 16 week apps coming up, our trusts policy is not to listen to heartbeat but I asked midwife if she could try and explained I’m anxious and it would give me reassurance. Don’t be afraid to ask!

We have pram and car seats, breast pump and a few clothes so far but only bought these so early due to mothercare closing down sale.

Sorry to hear of some of your recent scares. Pregnancy is definitely the most mentally challenging time for me, I’m constantly worrying!

I’m not having a baby shower, just not really my thing. I’m having a little get together after birth (6-8 weeks depending on whether baby comes on time) which is guess is a post-baby shower of sorts but means I can hopefully relax, introduce baby to my friends and have a glass of fizz!

umabb · 08/01/2020 11:38

@Twittlebee just wanted to give you a hug!
I had two mcs before even though both were at early stage (12wk and 7wk) and I've gone so much further with this pregnancy and everything has been perfect as we see from scans. But still I'm worried all the time. Took me a while to decide to buy some more mat clothes and I just don't have the guts to buy anything for the baby yet. No baby showers for me I guess Confused

Smiffette · 08/01/2020 11:44

Just had my 16 week appointment, she listened to heartbeat, took blood pressure and urine sample.
She didn't check my weight or take bloods, I thought they did this at every appointment?!

Next appointment is my 20 weeks scan on the 20th! Can't wait to see her again!
