@sacrecoeur0712 how was your appointment yesterday?

OP posts:
Curlywurlywooo · 02/03/2019 08:41

Wow there’s a lot of of us now 😂
@ABearandABump and a few others, sorry to be so clueless but this is my first pregnancy - what are the advantages to sling vs pram? 💖

sacrecoeur0712 · 02/03/2019 08:46

@ScotsBaby2 my appointment is on Monday with possible procedure next Friday. I have spoken to a consultant in the meantime though and she was more reassuring - thinks there's only a very slim chance of needing the stitch 🤞🏻

PinkLady89x · 02/03/2019 10:20

Yay new thread!

Has anyone else experienced awful headaches around 14/15 weeks? I didn't get a single headache in the first trimester and I've had one 4 days in a row now. It's really quite painful today 😩

Floriday · 02/03/2019 10:32

PinkLady89x around that time I was getting daily headaches, I remember taking paracetamol constantly for about a week and then they just went. I wondered if it was dehydration at the time but no amount of water to drink made a difference.

Floriday · 02/03/2019 10:33

Arghhhh baby brain forgot the @ Grin
@PinkLady89x

Bakingabean · 02/03/2019 10:39

@pinklady89x I did around 15/16 weeks. Ine went on for 2 days so I called the midwife (I panicked!) and she said it was hormone related a very common. I'm 18 and a bit niw and they seem to have gone.

Baby is very active this morning. I'm getting a good kicking from him today. Still only tiny kicks, but very definitely baby, not gas!

EverythingNow · 02/03/2019 10:52

I'm here! 18wks tomorrow.

ScotsBaby2 · 02/03/2019 11:05

@Curlywurlywooo sling is really handy for supermarket shop, wandering around the house with a grumpy baby, anywhere with steps, anywhere with rough ground.

Pram is good for other type of shopping, town walks, house naps, wanders around town, coffee shop visits etc

We have an out and about double pram as I've heard park visits aren't great when you have a sleeping baby in the sling and a toddler wanting to run about.

We have a Tula and I LOVE it. It's from newborn to fairly old... 18 months maybe. I used it almost daily when first baby was very little.

OP posts:
Curlywurlywooo · 02/03/2019 11:29

@PinkLady89x I got headaches often before getting pregnant (not for a medical reason just prone to them e.g holding tension in shoulders) I actually get fewer headaches now I’m pregnant but when I do I use 4head and white tiger balm. They are amazing and even if they don’t completely get rid of them they definitely help.
@ScotsBaby2 thank you! Smile have you any recommendations for slings? I have seen advertised the ones that wrap around, are they better or not as good as more structured baby carriers?

EverythingNow · 02/03/2019 11:48

@curlywurlywoo if there is a sling library local to you maybe see if you can pop along. I had a moby wrap with dd3 and loved it, I have humongous breasts and it was super comfy and easy to carry her even though she was a big baby. But it's very much down to preference, I had a structured one for dd2 and never used it as it wasn't comfy.

Agree that prams and slings both have their advantages.

Jokie · 02/03/2019 11:50

Hi all! New thread!

@Curlywurlywooo: we have two. The Bjorn babyborn and a fabric one. The Tula brand has a great reputation. If you can, try to find a place you can try on as many different brands with a professional as possible. We had an independent store and she spent her time going through what we needed and what would work for us

rainyfriday · 02/03/2019 12:00

Hi all, can I join please? I've recently rejoined MN after a couple of years.

I'm due 24th August with dc3. Have had 4 mmcs in the past so very relieved to be out of the first trimester!

I much prefer baby carriers to prams. With DS2 I used a close caboo for the first 16 weeks, but he started to feel too heavy for it and I felt like I had to keep retying it while wearing it. I moved on to an Ergo 360 which I loved, but around 2yrs it started to feel a bit snug so I got a tula. I can't wait to start using them again!

UnicornDust17 · 02/03/2019 12:52

Thanks @ScotsBaby2! Marking my place and hope 2 keep up with it this time.... 19 weeks today Grin

UnicornDust17 · 02/03/2019 14:07

Yes @PinkLady89x I keep getting awful headaches... I spoke to nurse about it earlier this week and she said keep hydrated. Have you had your blood pressure checked?

ABearandABump · 02/03/2019 14:38

@PinkLady89x yeah I had to take a week of work due to horrific migraines that wouldn't budge. She did blame hormones for it!

@Curlywurlywooo I hated my Pram, living in a busy city and trying to lug a pram around was chaos! Hoping that I'll be able to get a decently enough sling/carrier and I'll use that more than a pram 🤞🏼.

OctoberGirl91 · 02/03/2019 14:40

Checking in - 16 week appointment Monday hoping I get to hear heart 💓 and my private gender scan two weeks today xxx

Moncwf · 02/03/2019 14:55

I am also experiencing the early second trimester headaches. They're pretty horrible but normal.
Re slings, I had a close caboo for DS. Great when he was tiny but a bit of a faff to get on and by 3 months he was too big to wear comfortably. I'm thinking of getting an ergo 360 for later on this time. A word of warning, you may be at risk of vaginal prolapse after birth and should bear that in mind when carrying. A good sling consultant should be able to show you a carrier to spread the weight well. I found pram easier for nipping to local shops as could put shopping underneath, sling was good for crowds and stopping grabby in laws trying to snatch DS away at Christmas dinner!

QueenofFox · 02/03/2019 15:19

@ABearandABump you'll want a wrap at first -I loved my money wrap but close Caboodles and boba are highly recommended and then move to ergo 360 around 3-6 months depending on size and strength of the baby

ScotsBaby2 · 02/03/2019 16:02

@Curlywurlywooo I would also recommend having a google/Facebook search for a sling library near you. We get a fabric one in the baby box in Scotland. I liked it for being around the house but I felt it would loosen off during the day.

Hello all. I’ve been having headaches for a couple of days now too- am 16 weeks today.
Have my 16 week appointment coming up this week, and I think I’m showing now though it could just be letting my belly hang out as opposed to trying to suck it in.
Anyone who has had children before (this is my first) when did you feel your first movements and what did it feel like? I’m so looking forward to feeling the baby.
Still getting anxious about things but trying to enjoy the pregnancy.

Floriday · 02/03/2019 19:15

@chiatta I remember going to my 16 week midwife appointment with DD1 and I was only 15 weeks and she asked me if I’d felt anything yet and I said I’d felt something like popping bubbles and she said that would be baby as most people describe it like that at first. Between then and the 20 week scan they got more obvious and I could properly feel little taps at 20 weeks. I’m currently 17 weeks with DC2 and been having twitches for a couple of weeks and this week now having definite taps quite frequently.

Curlywurlywooo · 02/03/2019 19:26

@chiatta I first felt my baby move the evening following my 16 week appointment! First pregnancy and I described it on previous thread as a kernel of corn popping. Pressed my fingers onto my lower tum and could feel baby pushing /kicking against my fingers.
Am now nearly 19 weeks and have felt lots of flutters as baby moves and some very strong kicks, have even seen my tummy move and felt when I have my hand resting on my tummy!
Thanks all for the advice re. prams and wraps! I’d not even considered wraps before it was mentioned in here Smile

ABearandABump · 02/03/2019 19:39

@QueenofFox fab! Thank you I'll look into them. My friend has an Ergo 360 so may ask if I can pinch it for a wee while.

Anyone craving anything yet? I craved ice with my DS and now I could murder an exotic solero.
