Congratulations @Alicejj8x
Another milestone to enjoy getting to ☺️

twiglet · 31/10/2018 17:34

@Lookingforadvice123 I think you can use olbus oil into water/on a tissue.

You can also make your own version of lemsip with lemon and ginger tea with honey in or menthol sweets.

It's definitely no night nurse (I'm also a big fan of it) but better than nothing!

Alicejj8x · 31/10/2018 18:53

@Wames90 thank you x

Since2016 · 31/10/2018 19:41

Thanks @lookingforadvice123 she seems to be doing ok and baby is doing well so fx it’s not the full 6 weeks. I couldn’t have imagined going home without DD when she was in the NICU

I really, really missed night nurse when I had a bad cold a couple or weeks ago.

Rowse · 31/10/2018 21:26

@Lookingforadvice123 my midwife said the honey and lemon strepsils are fine and suggested making my own honey and lemon. Hope you get over it quickly.
I did some online research when I had a cold and olbas oil or the inhaler were definitely not recommended.

AliceRR · 01/11/2018 06:58

I feel like I e had cold after cold and now have a chesty cough. Not sure there’s anything I can take for that

Can we have things like halls sweets and menthol? I’ve had it in my min that we can’t and I haven’t even had airwaves chewing gum

lanalawr · 01/11/2018 08:08

The fruity halls sweets are ok according to a pharmacist I spoke to last time I was pregnant. Can't remember about the menthol ones.
They say you're more likely to pick up colds and bugs when pregnant so we've got this to look forward to all winter. Hooray!

AliceRR · 01/11/2018 09:49

I just had midwife appointment and saw GP while here.

GP said can’t take anything for cough. Things like halls soothers are ok but keep to a minimum as they only treat symptoms anyway. She said honey, lemon and olbas oil etc all ok.

Had book on for ear syringing again as ears are blocked again. Apparently I have narrow ear canals but have never had blocked ears before pregnancy...

AliceRR · 01/11/2018 09:51

Oh what I actually meant to share was that I saw a different midwife today. Apparently they have rotated.

She asked if I’m feeling baby move etc and said yes but mentioned I’d called hospital last week due to worry about reduced movements. She was surprised they didn’t see me and suggested next time I insist if on being seen if I feel like movements are unusual. She said not to bother with counting but just if anything feels different...

AliceRR · 01/11/2018 09:54

Oh and another thing, this midwife gave me my urine sample back and asked me to wash it out at home and use it again next time!?

Is this normal? Other MW just gave me a new one each time. Seems a bit gross. I’ve now got a bottle of pee in my coat pocket.

Celebelly · 01/11/2018 09:54

I ate so many sweets last night! Think I'm still on a sugar comedown. We had a lot of trick or treaters, and some very cute tiny kids which made me feel a bit weepy that this time next year, our little girl will be around for Halloween!

It's my birthday today and my DP got me the gift set I'd asked for with things like nipple balm etc I never thought I'd be excited about nipple balm!

Yakadee · 01/11/2018 09:57

@AliceRR - errrr - no! That's gross lol. I usually just get a new little bottle x

Celebelly · 01/11/2018 09:59

Eww, yes I always get a new bottle. She could at least have got rid of the pee first?!

AliceRR · 01/11/2018 10:46

Well I brought it home, emptied it and threw it away. Luckily I have a couple of empty bottles at home so will use those next time. It didn’t seem right to me!

On another note, do you think I should be worried about a stitch like pain on my right hand side? I’m travelling with work today so carried my heavy ish suitcase down the stairs (don’t think I hurt myself) and then walked up a hill with it from my car to the train station... Perhaps I need to be more careful...

Notquiteagandt · 01/11/2018 11:05

I mentioned to my midwife in an off hand kind of way that it was such a shame sample bottles are plastic.

She replied saying she agreed with me but they had to be sterile and it was the easiest way.

So I ashume by reusing them this defeats purpose of them being sterile.

I closely monitor my ketones. Plus have my sample dipped weekly by a dr. Dread to think how many bottles I have been through.

My dr just gave me a bag full of bottles. Felt a bit silly walking home carrying them in a clear carrier bag 😂🙈

welshweasel · 01/11/2018 11:12

In my first pregnancy you had to reuse the urine bottle! I just picked up fresh ones from work. This time I’m never organised enough to remember to get a bottle so I just do a sample when I get to the GP!

Baby160P · 01/11/2018 11:32

@AliceRR ewwwww although that did make me laugh. Doctors reception stock them too so just ask. That's what I did.

bubblybrit · 01/11/2018 11:33

Happy Birthday @Celebelly!! Hope you have a lovely day xx

emalady · 01/11/2018 11:42

Happy birthday @Celebelly. I had to get nipple balm already as I got a crack from boobs being loads bigger and bra rubbing! So glamorous!!
@Alicerr my midwife comes to the house and has just left me the urine pot to reuse. I don't really see an issue. If it's just for dipping doesn't need to be sterile anyway and I'm sure I will be dealing with much worse soon.

Fredthespider · 01/11/2018 11:46

Happy Birthday @Celebelly!

I forgot to pick up a pee bottle at my last appointment so that's going to slow me down at the next one, might pop to the Drs and ask for one.

How is everyone getting on with their pelvic floor exercises? I downloaded the squeezy app and have found it quite useful as a reminder.

Celebelly · 01/11/2018 11:49

Thanks, ladies! Flowers Baby is apparently celebrating too by kicking the stuffing out of me this morning! Probably the fudge I had for breakfast...

AliceRR · 01/11/2018 12:04

@emalady I wouldn’t mind so much if I was at home but wasn’t planning to transport urine back home with me so had nowhere to put it except my coat pocket which is a bit gross. Luckily I wasn’t going straight to work! If I’d have known I’d have taken an empty bag or something to put it in. Will probably try to avoid reusing if I can. I have two bottles at home and will see if I can get spares from the surgery reception or the hospital when I go. Got GTT at the hospital next week and think they have loads of spare bottles too.

FrowningFlamingo · 01/11/2018 13:16

We are asked to reuse the bottles. Doesn't bother me really, I take it in a sandwich bag. I bit less wasteful than a new one each time I guess!
I'm feeling quite rough with my UTI though I didn't get much sleep last night so that might be why. I'll try and have an early night tonight and see if I feel better tomorrow...

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 01/11/2018 13:19

Why didn't you just empty it in the loo before leaving?
