@Alicejj8x I find myself a bit irritatable at the moment but my Mum can be a bit annoying too! She is a bit superstitious about buying stuff. I just told her I’d bought four little outfits / baby suits (that’s literally all I’ve bought apart from the reusable nappies) and she said “oh you shouldn’t be buying stuff yet”. I don’t really want to hear that but by the same token she is already knitting her fifth baby cardigan for me and suggested I start washing my nappies today (cause I said you are supposed to wash before use) and I thought well it’s a bit early to start washing nappies 😂

Alicejj8x · 27/10/2018 15:01

@AliceRR
It's just abit too much at times isn't it!! I know they mean well but I don't think they understand how over baring they can be

Ahh so it's abit hard for you with her saying why have you brought stuff the her knitting stuff for you

We've brought so so so many clothes couldn't help myself 😂😱 I am superstitious in a way with the pram I think but I can't help myself with clothes ahaha xx

Yakadee · 27/10/2018 15:22

I've only bought one thing so far! 🤭

Next plan is to buy my son a new bed and move him into the bigger room so we can decorate both rooms - yay!

Also, bought a new car today finally! Pick it up Tues. Went for a Skoda Rapid Spaceback Sport - loads bigger than my fiesta and fits the pram comfortably. Xx

Alicejj8x · 27/10/2018 15:34

I literally cannot even explain how much we've got 😂😂 our families have gone mental and brought so much and lots of clothes. We're now onto buying ahead for 6-9 months etc lol!

Sister and her husband brought baby girl this 😍

We're having similar name discussions. We both agree on a first name thankfully (OHs main choice), however we both have family names that we'd like to include somewhere, mine is more important to us than his is however it really really doesn't go with the first name we like. His name does work. Mine is the name my great aunt who has always been like a second grandmother to me and she's 85, OH has suggested that if we go with his names then he would let me have mine as a first name for a possible second girl that doesn't exist yet and might not. I'm torn because I would like to be able to introduce our baby to my aunt and reality is that she might not be around to see a second Sad

Finally got a replacement carrycot for the pram we used for DD.

Made me smile when it arrived!

@Alicejj8x ah DH wants that bouncer it's really lovely but we can't justify the cost! What a lovely sister you have! We will have to see what budget we have after Xmas! Don't want to rely on family as being the 4th child no one seems as bothered - close family are excited but I remember family friends and people we barely knew spoiling us with bits for our eldest! None of that this time round 😂

This baby is the worst timing too as we've had both the boys birthdays this month and last, now it's Xmas and most of DH families birthdays in Dec also and then our little girls birthday is in Jan so by the time that's all out the way baby will be due almost!

We have brought quite a bit but still got the pushchair, car seat and a couple of mid range items to buy like a change bag, bouncer etc. Got all the clothes and feeding stuff and a crib and sleepyhead so sorted on that front!

I am hoping DH gets a good Xmas bonus to cover the pushchair and car seat as that's our big expense and the other bits we will pick up in the new year. With it being the 4th baby I feel like I am quite happy to buy second hand as it will only be used once and seems such a waste but DH is being a bit stuck up and saying the others had mainly new and we will do this properly! Things seem to be much more than they ever were with the other children though and there are so many lovely Muslins, blankets and toys etc from all the Facebook and online companies it's hard not to get carried away!!

Surprisedmom · 27/10/2018 17:54

I’ve bought loads of things for the baby, both new and second hand. Went into TKMaxx to get my dad’s birthday present yesterday and couldn’t help but buy a bunch more things. I got some very cute rattles and sleepsuits, but am now buying the 6months sizes as i’m definitely sorted on the 0-6 months front. Thing I need to reign it in and wait for the January sales now though as leaving some big things to buy will give me something to do whilst on Mat leave in January.

Since2016 · 27/10/2018 18:27

Thanks ladies for your messages. After more arguments this am and pm (I was at a friends most of the day) I had a brainwave cooking dinner - the feminine version of his dads name (quite old fashioned) as a second name with our agreed Irish name as a first name. He loves it and actually, I quite like it. It’s a nice balance and a lovely nod to his dad. We said IF we had a boy we’d honour him that way as a second name but this is actually far nicer.

Huge relief. I don’t want anyone giving me any cause of doubt now though so we’re keeping it to ourselves until she’s born! Phew!!!!!!

Re buying things - haha we’ve literally bought nothing other than a pair of baby shoes DD picked up in Sainsbury’s and announced “for the baby”. We had so much for our first that other than a few new babygros I can’t see what we need. My friend has a 6 month old and she’s keeping a load of stuff for me - has given me brand new bottles and a soft sling, plus with everything we’ll be given... no need tbh! I’ll spend Jan sorting things from the loft!

What I would say re buying bigger sizes though - you just don’t know how big / small baby is going to be. And all stores range. I’d err on the side of caution tbh! DD went straight into 0-3 but still has some 18-24 stuff now; and some things I bought before she was born she never wore as she was too small in the right season and then too big by the next one!

@Alicejj8x I put off buying for ages as I am a bit superstitious so didn’t feel comfortable but have decided it’s time to start buying stuff. I and only started buying in the last week or two (which was cause those reusable nappies were in such a good deal!) which I think is fine. I am nearly 5 and a half months!

I am a bit superstitious about pram and cot so we’ll see how it goes with those. I might just get them delivered after baby is born or buy them and leave them at my mum’s.

I have only bought four sleep suits from the other day and I just bought two baby grows in morrisons as they were really cute and two for £8! Their vests are 3 for £3 which I thought was really good. So will have a look when we go shopping next time as Sainsbury’s had some nice things I think.

@surprisedmom TK Maxx has some nice stuff. I had a look online as well. I even noticed they had Cybex prams online but I didn’t like the colour. I have bought 3 x newborn, 2 x 0-3 and 1 x 3-6 sleep suits so far. I’m just buying a mix as I don’t know what other people will buy me but I know my family will buy clothes for her.

Baby160P · 27/10/2018 19:02

We ordered our buggy 8pm Thursday night at the baby event in mothercare. They said next week for delivery and this morning it arrived 🙈

emalady · 27/10/2018 20:16

@baby160p ours is going to the in laws as we definitely don't have space for it yet (and both my Mum and MIL have said I'm not allowed it in the house yet) I'm worried in general but not superstitious but if it keeps them happy?! MIL bought us the leaf bouncer too, it looks gorgeous. The week after next we are off so decorating the nursery and putting together the furniture. And probably ordering mattresses once we know how big the cot-bed and crib actually are! I've bought a load of second hand bits, worried we may end up with a ridiculous amount of stuff it's so exciting though.

Lulabell1 · 27/10/2018 20:26

Just realised i missed my glucose test what do i do?

Baby160P · 27/10/2018 20:36

@emalady a few people were the same with us and superstition and I'm the same usually but not sure where to draw the line at no baby items in the house lol.

If it isn't people's first baby I'm sure their buggies are in the loft etc so I just went for it.

AliceRR · 27/10/2018 21:18

@Lulabell1 I would call your midwife to see if you can rearrange

AliceRR · 27/10/2018 22:57

@Baby160P Exactly you have to be practical about it too and even my Mum accepts I will buy stuff. She was saying I think you should wait for Christmas sales (as I previously said I’d see if I could get some stuff in Black Friday or jan sales) by that doesn’t mean I’m not going to buy anything until December/ January and even then I’d still be buying before baby is here!

My Mum was just annoying me today like yours @Alicejj8x. Maybe it’s hormones! I have been feeling a bit weird and down the last few days. Not sure if that is hormones or tiredness or not eating properly 🙄

Surprisedmom · 27/10/2018 23:04

My pram is in storage as my mother was superstitious about it being in the house, but as you say @Baby160p people who are having a second baby already have most things in the house and that’s not considered bad luck.
I am not personally superstitious but held off on buying until 12 weeks, but more because I had bleeding early on and wanted to know things were ok at the scan before buying anything.
The cot is a family heirloom that’s already in the house and that i’ve painted afresh, but I don’t think i’ll put it up until after he arrives to appease my mother’s superstitions. It only takes a few minutes to put together anyway (I tested it after I finally finished painting it - as you can see in the picture).

FrowningFlamingo · 27/10/2018 23:18

Lovely cot, surprisedmom :)
We've bought our pram and have just left it in the living room corner for now.
I'm not at all superstitious and I can't see any logical reason why having a pram in the house could change the outcome of my pregnancy! As a PP said, if it wasn't our first child we'd have one in the house anyway. Can see that you'd not want it there if it makes you feel uneasy though - pregnancy causes enough worry as it is!
Relieved to see I'm not the only one in a bit of a sex drought - I think DH and I are a bit squeamish about the extra person in the room!! I didn't think we would be at all. I've also realised that being mildly tipsy gets me in the mood. I'm not missing alcohol at all really but def missing that part! Blush

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 28/10/2018 02:03

That's a lovely cot @Surprisedmom but I'd be worried about the bar gaps!!!

Baby could easily get stuck and hurt in between them. Modern cots are now required to have the much closer together to prevent baby get stuck and suffocating.

welshweasel · 28/10/2018 07:21

I just thought exactly the same about the gaps and the enclosed panels, although they would be ok so long as mattress above that point.

Those of you with children already, how did you fare with the clock change? I’m currently the groclock’s biggest fan!!

pushit · 28/10/2018 07:23

@Jenn12 that's great news it's not amniotic fluid. If not wish what I'm going through on anyone

Notquiteagandt · 28/10/2018 07:36
