@welshweasel and @snobbymiddleclassone I appreciate your concern, but he will be in a Moses basket first and then only in the cot until he can stand up, at which point i’ll get another cot so he can’t climb out/get stuck (apparently we all learned to climb out of it due to the panels). It’s actually a very low cot so his head won’t be near the bars for him to get stuck in anyway. Given that 5 babies in my family (including 2 in the last 5 years) have safely slept in this cot, I figure it is safe enough for me to go with.

Alicejj8x · 28/10/2018 08:50

@AliceRR
Oh yeah defo it's good to be organised I think lol. Baby girl has so many clothes she's sorted for a few months after birth unless she's a chunk then I'll be dashing to the shops ahahaha we have a few 6-9 and some 9-12 from friends but most of her stuff is brand new I think OH has gone abit crazy bless him and picks up anything when he's out Lol

We need a pram which we are getting in December I no which one i want , car seats and isofix base which OH mum is getting ..
So not too much left to get :)

Yes it must be hormones lol xx

AliceRR · 28/10/2018 09:24

@Alicejj8x I haven’t decided on pram yet. I’m between silver cross pioneer or wave or the Mamas & Papas Ocarro. Going to M&P today for a personal shop so hoping to narrow down but trying to price things up. Will probably get car seat as part of that. No rush but want to at least know which ones I want so I’m not struggling to get round the shops when I’m even bigger...

Welshshepherdess · 28/10/2018 09:48

Morning all. Newbie here.
DD is due 5/2/19.
Already have DS who’s 5.
We have already bought everything- second sales, car boot or facebook. Picked up an Icandy for £40 of Facebook- the newer version than the one we had with DS. I’m not going on mat leave if I can help it till 1/2/19 as got to get all my tax returns done by 31/1. I’ll be that busy in December and January so I’ve got it all done early - won’t need stuff till 6+ months! Haven’t bought any newborn stuff though as DS was 9lb 11.

Came on here to see if anyone here has a thyroid issue. I’ve had blood tests which show raised thyroid antibodies, had paperwork through for an additional scan- but can’t get hold of a midwife to explain why!! 20+ Missed calls and all I got was you need the scans!! Anyone else struggling with contacting midwife?

emalady · 28/10/2018 11:28

@Alicerr enjoy the shopping, I found it really helpful to have a play and practice putting them in the boot!!

@welshshepherdess welcome! If you have raised thyroid antibodies you are likely to become hypothyroid which can affect babies growth and is probably why they want extra scans and possibly some more bloods. I've been lucky getting hold of the midwife generally but not had anything important yet to chase her about.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 28/10/2018 12:00

We’ve decided on the M&P ocarro, we’ve tested all of them now I think, and all the others seem quite rickety... ie. the chassis is quite clicky/shaky. The ocarro is the sturdiest yet still manoeuvre-able out there imo.

I’ve still not seen the proper midwife.. no idea who I’d need to contact if I needed to, as they’ve all been temporary stand ins so far 🤷🏻‍♀️
I’ve not yet got my matb1 form yet either and I’m now 24+3... mind you, work still haven’t done my risk assessment so they can’t moan at me for being late with my stuff! 😂

Welshshepherdess · 28/10/2018 12:09

That’s what I thought, however when I had thyroid issues previously I was hyper not hypo and there is very little information available on raised thyroid antibodies and being hyperactive. Just wish I could speak to someone without battling an answering machine!!

Baby160P · 28/10/2018 12:15

I know you aren't supposed to count kicks until 28 weeks so I haven't but baby is a little quiet in there since last night.

Anyone had the same?

Midwife wise mine brilliant always text back within a few hours.

Since2016 · 28/10/2018 12:17

Thinking of you @pushit terrifying I’m sure.

@welshweasel - our DD used to be and still can be a nightmare sleeper but she’s never been affected by time changes!!! Today she was up at 6:50 (new time) just heard her singing from her room. We’ve been v lucky! Every time I dread it thinking this time it will be horrible!

Since2016 · 28/10/2018 12:17

So technically we got a lie in today! And she was in bed early!!

OP posts:
welshweasel · 28/10/2018 12:23

@since2016 that’s amazing! We are very lucky that DS has (bar the usual regressions) been a good sleeper - we did some gentle sleep training at 6 months.

He woke up at 6am but went back to sleep and stayed in bed til his groclock came on at 7.

twiglet · 28/10/2018 13:45

@Baby160P yes he had a quiet day yesterday I lay on my left side for a while and he woke up turns out he had gone really low down.

We went to the mothercare event this morning the talks were pretty quick,we ordered the Snuzpod 3. I had vouchers from work so only paid £40 in the end. Originally we were going to wait til after Christmas but my friends son came 4 wks early so got a bit jumpy that we had no where for him to sleep!

Lookingforadvice123 · 28/10/2018 14:03

I don't feel like this clock change makes too much difference, it's when the clocks go forward we have to adjust our routine slightly! DS woke at 6:05am new time, don't feel like I can complain as that's 7:05 old time but a lie in would've been nice particularly as I've not been sleeping well at all at the minute. He went through a lovely phase of sleeping until gone 8am recently but he's now dry at night time as well so the wake up call is usually "I need a wee wee mummy!" which obviously can't be ignored!

Lookingforadvice123 · 28/10/2018 14:07

Oops posted too soon. In terms of movement, I'm still only feeling loads in the evening/night when I lie down. I did have a little worry when I woke in the middle of the night last night and didn't feel him straight away, have to admit I waited until I'd had a big kick before going back to sleep! But I refuse to get obsessed this time, it's too early any way and as I learned in my last pregnancy, it's the road to madness. I ended up having an early sweep at 38+5 after yet another visit to the MAU and I ended up bursting into tears in front of all the midwives. A friend's sister had very sadly had a stillbirth a few months previously so that made me much more worried than I should've been.

emalady · 28/10/2018 14:30

@lookingforadvice123 these things really affect you don't they? It's difficult, even if you know things are unusual having known someone who is going through it makes it seem much more likely.

kjonesey2 · 28/10/2018 15:11

@surprisedmom I'm not trying to make you paranoid or anything but I would check the legal minimum width of the gap between the bars for cots. It's not a thing I ever would have even considered as danger in a million years, but a seven month old recently died after getting stuck between cot bars. Picture of gap size here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-45991236

We had a surprisingly good clock change this morning - put DS to bed half an hour late last night and he stayed in bed an extra hour this morning. Hurrah for Gro Clocks!

Surprisedmom · 28/10/2018 16:39

@kjonesey2 I appreciate your concern. The current advice is that gaps above 9.5cm are a risk for baby’s getting their head trapped. The bars on my cot are not that far apart so it is not a risk factor. The incident you linked to was awful, but I think those gaps are substantially bigger than 9.5cm

AliceRR · 28/10/2018 17:44

We looked at both the Silver Cross Pioneer and the Mamas & Papas Ocarro today and I’m still not 100% sure.

Side by side, I thought the SC looked sturdier and a bit mirror. DH thought the opposite! But the Ocarro does seem a bit smaller and lighter and easier to fold in one piece...

🤔

Also saw a nice cot in Mothercare - the Cozee bedside crib. I was set on a snuzpod but tempted by one of these.

So much to choose from but I still feel like I have plenty of them.

Nearly bought a car seat from the Mamas & Papas outlet but then couldn’t decide...

Baby160P · 28/10/2018 18:44

Anyone here thinking of a angel care monitor?
I was told that next to me cribs aren't compatible as it has a soft base so I just looked and snuz pod is a solid base but you shouldn't have it on rock.

Then I've seen angel care with side of bed cribs aren't good as it detects the adults movement in the bed which moves the crib. 😩

bubblybrit · 28/10/2018 20:06

Anyone else experiencing back pain along with sore ribs (primarily right hand side)? I’ve been pretty sore all day and not too keen to take painkillers. Anything else that I can try to ease the pain?

emalady · 28/10/2018 20:35

@Alicerr we went for the silver Cross but think in the end there were a couple which we liked. The SC seemed to have better storage. Hope you decide before Feb!!

@baby160p what's the angel care? Is that one with movement /breath monitor?

lanalawr · 28/10/2018 20:44

@AliceRR we've got the Pioneer and really like it. It's not the most compact when folded but it's easy to fold and you can keep the seat on to fold it if it's facing forwards. I've got a couple of frustrations having used it with dd but they're minor and I know I'd find things with any pushchair. The basket is lovely and big though! I haven't tried the occaro though so can't compare.

I've heard mixed reviews about the angel care monitors with breathing sensors. Amazon and places have lots of reviews you can read (positive and negative) to try to get a balanced feel for it.

Yakadee · 28/10/2018 21:07

Got diabetes test in the morning 😩 So not looking forward to it! X

AliceRR · 28/10/2018 21:07

Thanks @lanalawr @emalady I do like the SC a lot. I think we have sort of decided but I still like both. We have a SC outlet 5 mins from our house as well so can get a good price on the pushchair. I don’t want a SC car seat though so part of concern was getting another car seat to fit it (we want a cybex) as we’ve had mixed info on this.

twiglet · 28/10/2018 21:14

@bubblybrit yes I've had rib pain physio showed me some stretches which can help. So stand up tall and straight slowly stretch down your side with opposite arm stretching over.
Another one is to lie on your back (with pillow under your lower back) straighten your legs together and stretch your arms out with palms up think crucifix position. Hold for a few minutes with gentle breathing.
