Congratulations on the scan @welshgal18!

puravida31 · 03/09/2018 21:50

@hamamdpease you’re not alone, I’m finding it really hard to keep up!

toastfiend · 03/09/2018 21:50

@Nightmanagerfan you poor thing! Hope you're feeling better soon. Take good care of yourself and keep going with small sips of the cordial if you can manage it. My Mum always used to give me flat full fat come when I was a kid and had a bug of any kind. Weirdly I seemed to be able to stomsch it when I couldn't water. To this day if I have anything stomach related I'll have a full far come and it usually helps. Probably just a placebo or the sheer amount of chemicals in it making it impossible for any bug to survive. But I think the sugar in it does help when you've got nothing left in you. Rest up.

@Welshgal18 fab scan pictures, congratulations!

Well, I was back to work today. Explained everything that has happened to my boss and he was great. Have been offered the week off work but I'd rather work from home and at least be keeping busy. The upshot of it is that I have the option to work from home this week on days I want to whilst I'm waiting for the scan on Friday. I'm very relieved whilst also very nervous for Friday. Honestly, this will be my 6th scan so far. I'm hoping that after this things might calm down a bit, but I said that last time so who knows?!

Hope all those still feeling sick are feeling much better soon!

BadBadBeans · 03/09/2018 21:58

Checking in!

@melissa112 yes that is just the kind of thing I worry about too, and I am also aware that they are not things that would cross most people's minds. (The little anxiety demon in my head then says: only because most people are not as careful / thoughtful / well-informed as me!) I got sent to a perinatal anxiety support group initially and the best thing about it was meeting other women who had similar - but not the same! - worries as me. It made me realise that it's a pattern of thinking that some brains simply fall into the trap of, and that what I worried about was almost arbitrary. I would mention to your midwife if you do think you might need extra support - I found the CBT techniques they taught so helpful.

@LovelyFishy that is the best dream ever and made me laugh a lot!

@ladycarlotta I'm with you on the exhaustion. I feel totally debilitated and so frustrated that I am sleeping my evenings away rather than cracking on with the immense task list I have. But I cannot help it!
@Welshgirl18 congrats on your scan! @Squirtlesmumagain good luck with yours x

@Nightmanagerfan that sounds rough. Hope you get some sleep tonight and that something stays down.

Angelmiracle · 03/09/2018 21:59

Good luck tomorrow @Squirtlesmumagain

@Welshgal18 beautiful scan that's great all is well.

My first scan is tomorrow. It's my booking in appointment and I assumed dating scan but letter said "midwife will scan for viability and check dates"

Is it always consultant who does the dating scan?

OP posts:
BadBadBeans · 03/09/2018 22:01

@Angelmiracle it's usually just an ultrasound technician who does the dating scan. That sounds unusual having a midwife scan at booking in - I have never heard of that before! Good luck.

LittleKitty1985 · 03/09/2018 23:20

Hey ladies, just checking in before bed. I've just realised that while lying down I can definitely now feel my uterus lurking under my belly fat! How about you girls?

Bluebelltulip · 04/09/2018 07:20

@Angelmiracle sounds like they have just described the dating scan as opposed to saying dating scan. It could just be that in your trust they prefer to book in and scan at the same time.

HidCat · 04/09/2018 08:11

@Marmite2018 oh hun that sounds awful - at least it was easy to get cleaned up though.

@Angelmiracle my midwife told me that our trust is training midwives to do the scans themselves so it may just be that your trust is starting that process too. I'm not sure really what they'll gain from it as surely someone who does them say in day out will be better than someone doing them a few times a week, who knows.

@LittleKitty1985 wow - how can you tell? I know my lower belly is really firm now so figured everything is moving up but I couldn't tell you where my uterus is exactly.

Wineandchoccy · 04/09/2018 08:14

Lidl maternity clothes www.lidl.co.uk/en/Non-Food-Offers.htm?id=791&week=2

Gronk27 · 04/09/2018 08:34

Does the Lidl stuff come out on a thu? @wineandchoccy

LittleKitty1985 · 04/09/2018 08:40

@HidCat Try this: pregnancy.lovetoknow.com/pregnancy-health-exercise-diet/how-feel-your-uterus-early-pregnancy

I tried it at 12 weeks and felt nothing, but there's definitely something else there now. Plus I can't suck my stomach in properly anymore while standing (I'm 14+4). I definitely still look fat rather than pregnant though haha

ladycarlotta · 04/09/2018 09:00

@littlekitty1985 I had to give it a go! I'm not sure what I can feel - definitely like there's something there that isn't usually. I don't have a bump but I think there's a little something in my lower belly all the time now. Weird!

@toastfiend really glad your boss is being supportive and you can work from home. I hope the scan goes well on Friday.

@Badbadbeans @melissa112 I usually suffer from anxiety quite badly - a lot of catastrophising thoughts - but weirdly have managed to handle pregnancy quite well so far. Maybe because I've been so prepared for miscarriage given my history that I know the worst case scenario intimately, and that I won't be able to help it. I've got a bad feeling I will really struggle with anxiety when the baby's here though. A perinatal anxiety support group sounds fantastic. Melissa, I think Beans is right about properly reading up - so you really know why advice is given and what the effects can be. It really helps me feel a bit more rational about things. The book Expecting Better is recommended a lot, but for good reason - I've found it so helpful in terms of just getting informed.

Wineandchoccy · 04/09/2018 09:14

@Gronk27 yes this Thursday Smile

Nightmanagerfan · 04/09/2018 09:31

Thanks for all your lovely messages yesterday when I was at death's door! Feeling much better now, though not 100%, so taking today off work to rest and get back to full strength. I feel very weak from not eating and the constant vomiting. @toastfiend the cordial definitely helped - we didn't have any coke in but would have given that a go if we had.

@angelmiracle good luck today - will be thinking of you.
@LittleKitty1985 I can feel something a bit hard in my lower pelvis, but no idea if it was there before or not!

Nightmanagerfan · 04/09/2018 09:45

Oh has anyone had their maternity exception certificate through yet? I sent the form off about two weeks ago but haven't heard anything yet - they said it would take 10 days, but wondering about others? I'm going to book some dentist appointments when it arrives - the midwife was explaining that they worry about pregnant women's gums the most, so good to get a check up.

Wineandchoccy · 04/09/2018 09:50

Yes mine took about 2 weeks to come

Wineandchoccy · 04/09/2018 09:53

Pregnancy hormones can lead to pregnancy gingivitis but if you have good oral health normally it is nothing to worry about. Years ago they used to blame pregnancy for mums loosing their teeth but oral hygiene was s lot worse then. Floss/Tempe brushes, brush with fluoride toothpaste and if you want to use mouthwash use at a different time to brushing

Wineandchoccy · 04/09/2018 09:54

P.s I work in the dental field I’m not just a weirdo who knows about teeth Grin

Nightmanagerfan · 04/09/2018 10:00

Thanks @Wineandchoccy out of interest, why is it best to use mouthwash at a different time of day?

Wineandchoccy · 04/09/2018 10:15

@Nightmsnagerfan It is another source of fluoride plus if you use it straight after brushing you wash all the toothpaste away.

Wineandchoccy · 04/09/2018 10:17

After lunch is a great time to use it

toastfiend · 04/09/2018 11:25

I have just realised that autocorrect was absolutely not my friend in my previous post. ConfusedBlush

Glad you're feeling better @Nightmanagerfan.

With regards to those suffering with anxiety, I sympathise! I've suffered a lot with it in the past, thought I'd mostly managed to control the 'spiral' these days but since being pregnant and then none of it seeming to have run smoothly for me so far I can feel it getting significantly worse again and my usual coping mechanisms aren't so effective. I have mentioned it to the midwife and she's referred me for a couple of things that might be helpful so fingers crossed! @BadBadBeans what you say about other people not being so careful etc. as you really struck home with me. I'm even finding myself internally questioning the doctors and midwives a lot because I feel like it's not as important to them. Which is obviously true, it's not their baby, but logically I know they'll give me the best possible care, but in the heat of the moment I find it so hard to remember that!

wordsmithereens · 04/09/2018 12:33

Those of you dealing with anxiety, have you ever given mindfulness a go? I found it probably the most useful tools for managing my anxiety in the past, really turned things around for me in ways I hadn't expected. Also ultimately changed my relationship to "negative" emotions and myself in a way that I'm beyond grateful for.

I think at the end of the day everyone has different things that end up working for them, and they'll change throughout life as well, so if your usual methods don't work, always good to try something new. :)

melissa112 · 04/09/2018 13:38

Thank you all for your comments regarding anxiety. @Badbadbeans I have my 12wk scan on Friday and not sure if I see the midwife afterwards as she did mention it but if I do I'll speak to her and see what she can recommend.

@ladycarlotta I'm sorry that you have been through so much already Sad but glad that you are coping well with the anxiety. Thank you for the book recommendation. I downloaded it last week when I was ill and found it really useful. I really do need to think about things a bit more logically and I'll definitely be reading back through it as the weeks go on.

@wordsmithereens I haven't tried mindfulness but I'm always glad for recommendations and will give anything a go if it can help. I'll have a look into it, thanks.

@toastfiend sorry to hear that your usual techniques aren't working this time. I really hope that the things the midwife has referred you for help you in coping with your anxiety. I'm glad your work are being supportive and letting you work from home.

I ended up more anxious this morning because my teeth started bleeding today! I have my maternity exemption card so I think a trip to the dentist is in order! I never normally have any trouble with my teeth so want to get it sorted soon! Wonder if it's because I've gone off dairy so haven't been having as much calcium?

Good luck to everyone with scans today!
