Due at New Year....anyone else?!

Have just found out that I am pregnant. Blimey! A bit nervous/scared! DH says scared is too strong a word. Might be from his side of things but I think that I'm scared!
Due 31st Dec or 1st Jan, can't quite work out whether cycle is 29 or 30 days.
First time, so not too sure what to expect!
Anyone else due at new year?

Hi Janbabies, this thread makes us in Dec feel very advanced!!! Good luck laydeez..

birdseed · 27/04/2007 13:52

Imarwurzel - I would be very careful about lifting if you possibly can - I have read that heavy lifting can increase your risk of miscarriage. not sure how heavy the stuff needs to be to make a difference but if you are lifting things all day then may be best to get out of it if you possibly can, even if it means telling your employer. you ought to be able to tell them in confidence on a health and safety basis, without it getting round the rest of your workplace.
we are still early on, so I wouldn't worry about what you have done so far (I was also doing lots of lifting boxes the day before I found out) but would be best to reduce your risk as far as possible.

I know what you mean Bbabymumma....I am getting paranoid and anxious about things too and also waking up at 6 am, in spite of being knackered!

birdseed · 27/04/2007 13:56

we might get some more new ones joining us any day now!

birdseed · 27/04/2007 18:20

Imawurzel - saw from the other thread that you were going to the doctor today. What did they say/do?

Anyone know if warm baths are at all risky? I am going on basis that just good to relax, but a little worried about getting water up there!...can anyone reassure me?!

Imawurzel · 27/04/2007 18:51

Hi all.
warning long post

I told my manager and the boss today together, they are happy for us and fine.
I told them that i don't want to be lifting stuff and they are going to say that i have a bad back and they can't afford to have me off sick.
Seen the nurse practitoner(sp) this morning cos doc was jam packed, she worked out i am 5 weeks and 1 day,and baby should (ha) be born on 29th Dec.(1sts are normally couple weeks late though)
she has sent a note to midwife and said she will probably contact me in about 10 weeks.
Then see what happens after that.
Ooh,it's all new and exciting. Don't know what to think about anything yet, birth plans etc.
makes my head spin.
Where do i start????

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 28/04/2007 19:08

birdseed - I was wondering how tepid your bath needs to be too! (You'd think I'd know I have 2 DDs!) I looked it up on babycentre.co.uk - babycentre they have a whole section on "is it safe to..."

Glad to see this thread here - sorry I missed it before when I started this one!: New Year Babies

I like all your talk of cm and cramps - I feel definitely crampy which I don't like as it makes me nervous, and don't remember last time particularly. Though it could be because I have noone to take my mind off it as DH is away for the weekend. DD1 is away today/tomorrow, so I only have a 4 year old for company!

Looking forward to many more conversations with you all!

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 28/04/2007 19:25

Wurzel - glad you got a nice response from you nurse/GP surgery. I'm holding out after last time - when I had DD1 (some time ago) I saw the doc about a day after the blue line and he was fine, checked my blood pressure, gave me some leaflets, told me to make a midwife booking in appt for 10-12 weeks. Last time with DD2 I went at 6 wks and he actually said something along the lines of, "gosh, that's not far at all, lots of pregnancies don't make it!" As well as virtually calling me irresponsible for not wanting to pay over £100 and go to London (50 miles) for a nuchal fold scan cos our local hospital didn't do them then (even though I pointed out that a hospital 20 miles away did them routinely. (I was of the view that even if it did show increased risk, I wasn't prepared for the v slight risks with an amnio as I would choose to keep the baby whatever). I have actually got an app't at the fertility clinic as we had been trying some time, and I am supposed to be going in 2 weeks to get the results of an HSG (like a laparoscopy, they inject the blue dye but do an x-ray rather than insert the camera). I'm going to ask if they are able to scan and see anything when I have the app't - anyone know if that's possible at 6 weeks? I know technically the heart should start beating any time now.

Imawurzel · 29/04/2007 19:36

In a book i got it says
'Weeks 6-7'
'week 6 head to bottom size about 8mm'
'There is now a large bulge where the heart is and a bump for the head because the brain is developing. The heart begins to beat and can be seen on an ultrasound scan.
Dimples on the side of the head will become the ears and there will be thickenings where the eyes will be.On the body, bumps are forming which will become muscles and bomes. And small swellings (called 'limb buds') show where the arms and legs are growing.
At 7 weeks the embryo has grown to about 10mm long from head to bottom. (this measurement is called the 'crown rump')'

Too much info???
When you lot are talking about 'cramps' are these the type you get in your tummy area, like period pain??
I am getting little shooting type stabs that are coming from around my 'vulva' and that area. It's odd. Anyone else had these??

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 29/04/2007 22:01

Ooh, thanks for the info.

By cramps I meant a general achy feeling - also a bit of a "bloaty" feeling, if you know what I mean? Not as severe as AF but a definite feeling/occasional slight twinge/tight feeling. Very vague I know... Probably just feeling the stretch!! Slight brownish discharge (sorry, TMI) that I don't remember from last time? Not had pains round vulva area.

Bbabymumma · 30/04/2007 10:19

where's the vulva??!

Morning all, good weekend? been busy enjoying the sunshine.

I still don't believe I'm pg, I really need to phone the doctors at some point and make an appointment. The nausea only appears on the train at the moment. I will be happier when it's worse - it's quite reassuring (don't quote me on this if it does get worse!)

Iamawurzel - happy to hear the work and gp have been good and we now have an official date on our thread!

ThisisnotmyrealMNname - I had similar response from gp as you with dd2 for dd1. "Come back after a few weeks when its more progressed." Not very helpful. Scans at 6 weeks. My sis had to have scans at 6 weeks cos she had had an ectopic previously and she could see something at that point.

Beansprout, Birdseed, VictorVictoria - hope you're all well. Anyone new and brave enough to join us hello!

skibump · 30/04/2007 14:44

Hi everyone can I join in?

Just had a real positive - after a couple of days peering at really faint 'lines'. Yay for Clearblue that lets us test early! It really is early too, last AF was 7th April, so I reckon about 3 weeks (how tiny??) and due on 12th Jan. Nice to be able to talk about it here, soooo excited, and nervous too

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 30/04/2007 15:42

Welcome skibump! I'm at the nervous paranoid stage too - I did the digital Clearblue test on Thursday, the day AF was due. Was then paraniod that it might have an electrical fault (!) so today bought a cheap test from Asda to reconfirm!! I always used to laugh at people that did that kind of thing... (And I should know better as I have 2 children)

Bbabymumma · 30/04/2007 16:24

Hi skibump. Am at the anxious stage too. Still trying to not get excited and dh won't mention it in case he tempts fate. I don't think there's many of us. I'm sure we will grow over time (in more ways than one!)

VictorVictoria · 30/04/2007 16:26

Soory guys you may have seen I had an early miscarriage fri/sat/sun. Only 5 weeks so not bad physically but this is my second in 6 months so am feeling a little unlucky...........good luck to all and hope it goes well for all of you

birdseed · 30/04/2007 16:32

This is not my real name - thank you for looking up the stuff about hot baths for me - seems to make sense and is much appreciated.

Welcome ski-bump and congratulations!

Off to the doctors today. I hope I get as good a reception as you did Imawurzel!

beansprout · 30/04/2007 16:52

VictorVictoria - I'm sorry to hear that. I've just had the same, so will bow out of this thread but wish you all well with your pregnancies!

Bbabymumma · 30/04/2007 16:54

I'm so sorry VictorVictoria. I know its early but its so disappointing anyway. I hope you are ok. Good luck for the future.

Birdseed - Good luck with the appointment. Let us know what they say. Have booked mine at the end of the week with a female gp who is in her early 20's and fresh out of college. I'm hoping she will feel too initimidated by 30yr old mum of 1 to fob me off!

Bbabymumma · 30/04/2007 17:02

oh beansprout - I'm so so sorry, that's awful news. I hope you both have luck in the future. Just devastating. Sorry.

skibump · 30/04/2007 21:06

VV and Beansprout, that's terrible news, really feeling for you.

Thisisnotmyrealname, thx for the link. I'll pop back to it next week when I'll register on their calendar. Pity, I was wondering just how tiny my lo is right now

Imawurzel · 01/05/2007 07:09

Skibump, i guess yours is about 3-4mm.Weeks4-5 it is about 5mm, wk6-7 about 8mm, wk 7, 10mm. (got book in front of me)[blush}
VictorVictoria & Beansprout, Really sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed for you both next month.

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 01/05/2007 09:35

VictorVictoria and Beansprout - so sorry to hear that. ((())) (that's a big hug for each of you)

Felt slightly queasy last night (DH actually noticed - said I looked it!) so am taking that as positive. Hate these early days.

Bbabymumma · 01/05/2007 10:24

morning ladies. how's it all going?

5 weeks tomorrow, I forgot how long these early days seem.

thisisnotmyrealmnname - (am intrigued by what your real name is!) My strange wafts of nausea are reassuring but don't happen often. I have been having HORRIBLE dreams though (usually involving sex with people like John Prescott - YUCK).

Imawurzel - how are you? 5mm. That is very small! Makes me feel even more nervous.

birdseed - how did the doctors go?
skibump - how are you?

birdseed · 01/05/2007 11:01

VV and beansprout - so sorry to hear you news. Must be absolutely gutting. Hope your dp/dh are being supportive for you.

BBmumma - doctors went fine, although very brief, possibly as I was 15 mins late as had a nightmare getting there! She just checked that my calculation of being 5 weeks was right, asked if I was taking folic acid and told me to make an appointment with the nurse for an 'early pregnancy chat'. A bit briefer than I expected, but I guess what else is there to do/say that early?

Bbabymumma · 01/05/2007 11:08

hmm early pregnancy chat - what's that? sounds interesting and quite helpful.

With my dd I went from an appointment with the gp at 6 weeks to not seeing anyone again until 18 weeks!?! I was like - don't worry midwife, I'm almost half way through now.

I've moved boroughs so they may be better this time. Let's see. (don't mean to rant its the hormones.)

skibump · 01/05/2007 14:17

Hi everyone, all fine here. Imawurzel, thx for the info - I may need to consult your book several times along the way

Last time (ds is 14 mnths) I did one test then went to the docs assuming they would confirm everything - I couldn't remember dates or anything. I left with a blue maternity folder, an appointment with a midwife and an appointment for a dating scan I felt like a real fraud cos I wasn't even sure I really was pg Anyway, that was Oxfordshire where the mat services were fab, I don't think htings will be quite so organised this time around...I have an appointment to see the dr in a couple of weeks time about joining their list - I guess I'll talk to them about it then, tho it will still be early.

I'm feeling occasionally queasy, and really tired - already! Hope everyone else is feeling good?
