Thought after 300 odd messages it was time to go back to our weekly ones. Hope you are all well.

dc's back to school for you and holidays just started for me today. Have ds home for 2 weeks now.

It's most definitely puddle-inducing weather here. Swollen, minced feet chez SOH. Still, only a week left at work and then I'm free.......

Had 2 weeks off work, first day back today, apparently I look 'enormous'.

Face currently looks like I'm chewing nettles, not best pleased, shall be grumping round the library banging books for the next hour.

Banging books quietly I hope SOH, can I ask you a question? Or anyone who may be experiencing the same.

As Mathilda is engaged do you get a horrendous pain now and again when she wriggles her head? It's always in my right leg/bits but very high & right deep deep inside. I think it's the head knocking on a nerve but gee it doubles me over with pain, the whole family keep panicking and the kids look scared shitless as I yelp and double over. It only last a few seconds and then is gone. I'm trying to work out if it's because the head is down low or if it's working it's way down which is why it hurts?

Makes you yelp, takes your breath away and you bend double right? Lasts a few seconds and disappears completely? A bit like somebody stabbing you with a knitting needle up there?

Yeah, been happening since she started to engage. Midwife said it's completely normal and uncomfortable but it's the head hitting the nerves on its way down. It really scares DH when it happens as I can't move for a couple of seconds. Ironically, I think it's a good sign. I get it worse if I'm standing, especially walking. As she has fully engaged though it has started to ease off.

I've been getting a pain across my lower abdomen as you describe. Sharp burst of pain, gone straight after. Thought it might be braxton hicks, but wasn't sure as it's always a one-off. Don't know if baby is engaged. Bit early as I'm only 34 weeks - will find out tomorrow and let you all know!

JL at my 34wk check Mathilda was engaged, fixed and descending...

First babies engage earlier too. Doesn't mean birth is necessarily imminent, means you lose ability to walk like a lady though.

I lost that weeks ago SOH. Have been wobbling about like a heffer for weeks. Have forgotten what normal walking is like!!

Thanks SOH, I thought as much, it is horrible but as you say at least it is doing the right thing. Yes, mine is bad when standing or walking. It's hard trying not to yelp when it happens in a shop or walking into school. I look constipated for a few seconds, praying that NO one is looking at me.

JL a braxton hicks has NO pain, it is just when your bump tightens, feels hard for about 10seconds or so. I always get one when I have been leant over doing something, putting dc's shoes on or picking toys up etc......... The pain you are getting is very probably baby decending down. I was 3/5ths engaged with my first at about 34 weeks JL.

Bit cloudy here in Bristol today, looks like it should be nice and sunny but sadly it's not. Mind I'm grateful, it seems pregnant LW and hot sunny weather tend not to mix too well. I just can't take the heat when I feel like I'm carrying a bunch of watermelons round up front!

About these pains. You are describing exactly what I've been getting on and of every now and then. There's 2 different types I get. The first I think are like mini braxtons, bloody painful sharp shooting pains across my lower tummy. The sort that no matter what you do - sit, stand, squat, kneel, jump out the window, the pain refuses to budge and nothing you can do helps it to ease. Then it just fades away after a few seconds.
The second pain I've been getting feels like someone sticking a knitting needle through my fandango! MY GOD - it's the strangest pain in the world. It hurts, but it's a very funny feeling sensation iykwim? Is this the baby engaging or moving down? It's been happening for a couple of weeks now, and yes it has made me waddle instead of walk too!

Was told by midwifes in Scotland that baby is head down so that's a plus. They also did all my bloods again for their records, sob! It hurt and the bruise has still not gone. I feel like there's more of my blood sat around in tubes everywhere than there is in my body anymore!

I wish my baby would turn and engage. I'd love that pain - still dreading the ECV and possible section . I have a head in my ribs and it's not particularly pleasant. Upside is that I can still walk with a little dignity

You'll be pleased to hear that I finally know who will be delivering the baby and where. I can't believe I am nearly 35 weeks and have only just had confirmation of this.

Don't worry SOH - I too have grown like crazy in the past couple of weeks. My husbands aunt proclaimed - wow you are huge!!! Her partner asked me when I was going on diet. Grrr....

LWatkins, I think you're having the same pains as us! My midwife reckons the low down pains across the bottom of the abdomen are braxton hicks (not usually painful, but the pressure can sometimes feel sharp and lasts a few seconds). The knitting needle one is definitely the descent of the baby. I hate the heat too, my poor feet and itchy bump...

I'm almost pleased that we're all feeling the same. At least it's normal.

SOH I know what you mean. Not that I wish pain on any of you, but am almost relieved to hear that I'm not the only one getting these pains. Makes me feel less worried iykwim?

Still haven't had any swelling though I wont count my chickens just yet. Everytime I think I've gotten away with some sort of pregnancy symptom it smacks me on the arse for being smug and appears! The itchy tummy though, oh it'll be the end of me. It's always there, and I think some small stretch marks may make an appearence on my tummy soon too

Can't believe I'll be 35 weeks on Thursday! WTF? What happened to that thing called time? It seems to have slipped right by me lol.

Blimey dejags. When are you going on a diet? Twonk! I think if we just hold a session each Friday and climb up on a stage so that friends and family members can come round, point for a couple of hours and say extremely sensitive and personal things it'll narrow it down to a specific window. Is it alright to speak like this to non-pregnant people? Can I walk up to my SIL and ask her if there is a medical reason why that gold clown necklace needs to dangle from her neck or is she current Princess of Chavdom. See, I can be rude too but I choose not to because I have manners.

I really hope that baby turns for you- I know it's usually later with subsequent pregnancies so maybe mini-dejags is leaving it until the last minute.

LWatkins, worry not about time, the last couple of weeks are a drag! My tummy's annoyingly itchy too, stretchmarks appeared below my belly button (stretched too, not popped out) at about 34/35 weeks as the baby started to descend. I have no belly button, just a bruise!

Dejags hope your little one turns for you hun, I'm sure it will These babies seem determined to make early apearences yet when it comes to turning they seem to want to leave it till the last minute! And at the diet comment, bit insensative and rude I must say!

My aunt made a comment about me whilst I was at home and I just burst into tears in front of her and everyone else! I'm usually quite sensative as it is so throw in some hormones and I was a mess. She just came out with 'Well I think you've been very silly to fall pregnant if you ask me'. She didn't mean it nastily and she has a heart of gold but she isn't the most diplomatic of people and can sometimes say things without thinking, and they can be hurtful. To me that was just a big slap in the face, considering the circumstances with the father and the fact I'm trying to finsih uni etc. Trying to make the best of a tricky situation and all that, it felt like a huge punch in the face! Some people just don't think, grrrr!

Am home from toddlers, was lovely to see old friends again. I held a little baby for a while too, Kate, she is 3 months old ut quite dinky still.

Then i took all the kids in to town to get ds#3 and dd some doodles (clarks canvas shoes) dd's feet too big this year so she now has awful white\pink\sparkly\heart covered nightmares......i HATE girls in trainers. She loves them though >
Was paying and trying to round them all up and out the door, chaos. Got back to the car and looked at my reciept they had only charged me for dd's shoes not ds's. Didnt even notice Should i go back in, will i be on cctv convict alert???

SOH bummer at being back at work, at least the end is in sight i suppose. Am also very glad not to be having those nasty pains lots of you are getting. Nothing in my pelvis!!!

Am so tired, both ds's were up last night. DH got up to them but makes such a racket and grumps about it so much i may as well get up myself. When i get up to them he always says "oh i didnt hear" grrrrrr. Two nights crap sleep in a row......not good.

Was a bit emotional yesterday too, even sobbed a bit in the morning Not like me, kids were around or it may have degenerated in to racking, heaving sobs. Am not in my own sapce, MIL (who is fab really) keeps telling all the kids off like an echo, i feel i need to clean up all the time. DD goes in for her op (gromits and adenoids) on saturday, i may be sliced in half to get the baby out.....moan, moan, moan......Just seems to be a little too uch going on and i feel like i may lose it at some point. DH will go in to he hasnt seen me crack yet......

Anyway, sun is out and all the kids go back to school tomorrow. Sure i just need a rest and maybe a packet of biscuits

I attempted to clean the house yesterday and now my back is paying for it. The good thing though is that that for the first time dh said, "Don't worry about it, you need to relax" I almost fell down, because he is such a neat freak I can't stand it.

OK time to waddle down to find some breakfast.

Come on girls lets stay strong, its not long to go now, LG&T you can't break down, if you start sobbing then surely we will all follow You have been doing quite a lot for one morning, toddlers AND town, I can only manage one at a time! My dc's went back to school today and it has been lovely and peaceful and calming...

People do love to comment on pg women don't they? At school they all started on with 'so you are still here then? Blimey look at you now'. Not helpful, unlike bf yesterday who said 'you don't look fat at all, you look wonderful', now I know she was lying, but what the hell, it made me feel better

Hello all - had a nice weekend with my Mum and sister who are suitably impressed with my bump!

I have those fanjo shooting pains too, they are awful, I had an especially bad one last week, and have noticed that my bump seems a bit lower since that one, so prolly is the descent. My braxton hicks are more uncomfortable than painful, and I tend to need to practice my breathing exercises when one happens.

Had to buy some summer maternity tops on Saturday, grrrr.... but I have consoled myself with the fact that three of them are suitable for breastfeeding in, one at least is wearable afterwards when not pregnant, and that no one leaves hospital in thier pre-pregnancy clothes, so they will be useful past due date. I also got some vest tops in Primark to wear as PJ tops in hospital. My mum gave me some gorgeous organic babygros for Easter and I collected a ton of stuff from my sister (moses basket, electric swing, bouncy chair, steriliser, bedding etc) that I had lent her when she had my dniece. Feeling more organised by the day, although baby's room looks like a disaster area!

Tomorrow is the first official day of mat leave for me! (last 2 weeks have been holidays) It already feels odd that people are in school today getting ready for the new term, and I'm not. Have had to really persuade myself that I don't need to go in today and "tie up loose ends".

OK while you guys are buying summer clothes it is sleeting, cold, and windy here. I just took the dog out and my face has been pummeled by sleet.

Hormones are a bugger. I sobbed last night on the way home because I saw a rabbit in a field. DH eventually managed to ascertain that I was worried that it might run into the road and be killed. So, next time you're at breaking point console yourself that you're not me. Stuck in Norfolk, addicted to gingerbread and sobbing at a bloody bunny.

There's always some poor bugger worse off. Some of us have to live in London fgs.

LG&T - I can so sympathise with you feeling low and tearful - I feel exactly the same. If it were me, I'd phone clarkes and explain, but at the same time explain that you are very, very, very pregnant and cannot face the trip in with kids in tow to sort it out. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Im ok really, the hormones are setting me off i think. I probably need to sit down and watch one of those mega weepy movies and get it out of my system. Not easy when you share your space with so many people though. DS#4 looking tired so may attempt a snuggle and a sit down The bump is huge, im huge snuggling next to anything other than my lovely 'wedge' seems absurd.......

Madeindevon, the baby being engaged is not a pre-requisite of labour. My friend has had three babies, none of them engaged until she was in actual labour. Just enjoy the lack of pain while it lasts!
