I don't have a real Dorset accent SOH, although I can do a good one. I do sound quite south coasty though, so I'm told. Unless I'm putting on my posh telephone voice.

Monkey World is Yes as it says. Probably a bit like the bit at the Zoo with monkeys but there are only Monkey's and it's fairly big. It is a rescue centre for ill treated primates in captivity, they are rescued from all oer the world, taken from circus's and testing places etc........ Sadly the guy that started it all off Jim (can't remember his surname) Died about 3 weeks ago. His death was on the news. There was also a series maybe two years ago on the telly all about Monkey World and what they did etc....

Your fibbing about the attractions in Norfolk, I went to a very good theme park there many years ago? Have no idea what it was called, it was when I was a Girl Guide on camp. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about, I remember there was cable car there and a viking ship that went all the way over.

MrsJB yes its the Dorset one (is there another one then?) Ive never been before. We are going with our neighbours because its their youngest dd's birthday and as she is ds2's girlfriend she wanted him there. AAh young love!!

I will give Dorset your love!!!

SOH basically Monkey World is all about, well, monkeys (although ds2 seems convinced he will see a giraffe there lol). There is a program about it on Animal Planet, the owners rescue monkeys from around the world and some end up living there. They are a bit like the Steve Urwins of the monkey world lol

Aprilmeadow, enjoy having your sister there with you, hope you get a bit of rest. I am not planning on being next thank you very much lol although i wonder if we would get to adopt a monkey for free if i went into labour while we were there

I just had a visit from my neighbour, he was rolled up with laughter, he has just cuaught ds2 and his dd in the bathroom both sharing the toilet at the same time. Apparantly his dd was sat on the front and ds was stood by her side doing a wee behind her. He didnt know what to say to that I guess they were both desperate and couldnt wait.

ShowOfHands · 21/04/2007 20:09

You mean Pleasurewood Hills . It's practically in Suffolk though, have never been but I believe you are referring to a ride called The Tempest (ship that tips over). Of course I'm joking about Norfolk, there's loads to do. You can walk seventy miles and see feck all and some bloke down the road grows giant sunflowers and gives them names. Honestly, tis a hoot.

Love the Dorset accent, especially when saying the word Dorset.

ShowOfHands · 21/04/2007 20:11

Animal Planet? Is that one of them there televisual channels? We don't have televisions in Norfolk. We all sit around looking at the ducks hoping they'll lapse into a Greek tragedy. Some sit for many years hoping for an impromptu performance, only to find they have wasted their lives in the pursuit of entertainment.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 21/04/2007 20:50

Yey thats it SOH, It was good fun, when you are about 13............. I can't actually remember anything else about guide camp in Norfolk so you are probably right, we probably did walk alot, sing songs round the camp fire and hide in the woods

cameroonmama · 21/04/2007 20:53

We've been to Monkey World too, just down the road from us MrsJB, plenty of Dorset/Somerset accent round 'ere my love. You'll have a great time, Pebble.

Lwatkins · 21/04/2007 20:54

Evening......

AM hope you have a lovely time with your sister coming to stay, hope you do get your lie in. Very that you have your baby and I don't, hope you are enjoying her.

SOH, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. How sad for her, nice that your being so supportive and helping her through it by talking to her and asking her what she wants. Like others have said, many people would have felt uneasy around her and stayed away. Have never m/c so can only imagine what it feels like. And thank you for saying such nice things, has made me

Pebble - with regards to the waters leaking, I think I've had this a few times. It's totally clear, doesn't smell and leaves a BIG damp patch in my knickers Feels like I'm peeing myself but can't stop it IYKWIM? It's happened a few times with me, but not huge ammounts so haven't paniced about it too much! Just something I'm going to mention to my m/w when I next see her, make sure everythings a ok. Bubs is still very active etc so think all is well

Mrsjb - glad you didn't go over doing it today with putting up the shed. Hope you had a lovely sit down whilst shouting 'left a bit, bit further, no that's too much go to the right! Down a bit, oh that doesn't look right you'll have to start again love' at your dh.

I want my baby! I'm so tired of all this pregnancy lark now, I want my little girl. 4 weeks and 5 days left to EDD and counting. What to have for dinner Must resist them, I've already eaten 2 and only bought them today!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 21/04/2007 21:38

Where are you cam? LOL at the round 'ere my Love. Ah takes me back to one of my jobs, the most lovely lady worked on the bar, ah she was just so nice and had the biggest Dorset accent. Made me chucle most days when I talked to her.

OP posts:
cameroonmama · 21/04/2007 23:07

We are just outside Yeovil MrsJB, where is your stomping ground? I do love it round here, even if it is a bit sleepy at times! Hope you are enjoying having the house to yourselves

MKG · 21/04/2007 23:11

Pebble,

You may have thrush. Last week I went to the doctor thinking that my waters had started to go because I had discharge like crazy. It was clear, it came out in small gushes and didn't smell at all. She did an internal and said that I had a non-symptomatic infection. If I were you I would go in saying your symptons they can check you just to make sure what's going on.

Pinkjenny · 22/04/2007 08:46

Good morning beautiful mummies-to-be.

Its absolutely pi**ing down here today - although maybe my ankles will be grateful. Thanks for the words of wisdom re: the Bugaboo. The lovely saleswoman in John Lewis yesterday taught me how to fold and unfold it, but there is a definite 'knack' which means that I can't do it every time. I can just imagine myself at the front door, getting a sweat on whilst all the neighbours (and the baby) laugh at me, thinking, 'god, she can't even get her pram up, call Social Services'. When I got back to my mum's last night (which is where the pram lives due to her superstitions) I tried it another couple of times and have seriously done myself an injury, of the groin variety. Dh had to help me out of the bath. Must have been a pretty sight.

I am starting to worry a little bit now about whether I can actually do this. I keep reading books that say I will hit rock bottom on day 4. They are freaking me out. What if she cries all the time? What if I can't make her happy? What if she doesn't like me and prefers my mum? Will she resent me if I can't breastfeed?

You know, that kind of thing. I don't know why I keep having these crises of confidence, I can't wait to meet her and cuddle her for the first time.

Dh keeps on saying, 'what if its a boy?!'. Everything I have bought is pink, including the accessories in her bedroom. What will I do if it's a boy? I know I had two scans that told me it was a girl, the 20 week one and the 3d one, but what if it was hiding?

Just thought I'd pop on this morning and cheer you all up a bit. Dh has gone to the office for some 'quiet time'. Freak.

InTheseShoes · 22/04/2007 10:06

Morning! Finally got a lie in this morning, and awoke to dh cleaning the kitchen and a line of dancing drying on the line! (Clearly, he has been abducted by space aliens overnight, however, I like the new improved version, so I won't go to the National Enquirer just yet)

Had a lovely day yesterday visiting a friend in Leeds and then seeing some friend who live locally for a BBQ - we didn't get ds (nearly 6) in bed until 9.30pm! Call Social Services! So nice though, and had half a glass of red wine, which made me really look forward to the time when I will be able to gasp have a full glass.

LWatkins, I am at your flatmates - I know that they are young and probably don't really understand your needs or what you are going through, but they are so inconsiderate! I understand that you don't want confrontation and upset with two weeks to go, could you get some UHT milk etc and have it in your rom so they can't get hold of it? Or, invest in one of those little beer fridges and keep it in your room? It would come in useful later, you could have it in your room at home and then keep milk for the baby in it and drinks for you? Not long to go now, I really admire you for sticking with everything and doing so well in the face of pregnancy!

Pebble - I would mention this waters thing to your mw on Monday - a friend of mine lost her fore- or hind-waters (can't remember which) at an aqua-natal class, and the mw did say to her when she found out that there can be risk of infection. There definitely should be some sort of distinctive smell though, I remember reading it on one of the other ante-natal threads.

April ladies - welcome! Hope for your sake that you remain April ladies, but sure that you will be very happy here in May, everyone is very nice!

aprilmeadow · 22/04/2007 10:40

Good morning ladies

Had a great lie in!! J woke at 6.30am as did Ella, but after she fed we (me, dh & dd) all went back to sleep until 9.30!! My sister had to brave it and change ds's nappy - hehehe.

Ds is going to be 2 on Tuesday and i had arranged that 3 of his friends would come for a picnic tea on Monday. Sarnies, little sausages etc. I have just had a phone call from his best friends mum to say that all the kids that were invited had been playing together on Thursday and on Friday one of them came out in CHICKEN POX! The incubation period is 3 days i think, so if they are going to get it they should come out in it today Ds hasnt had it and i dont think it is safe to wing it and hope that they havent got it just incase i end up with both ds and dd getting it..... that would NOT be good. Poor ds i feel really bad that i havent organised a party and now the one thing i had organised has had to be cancelled. Oh well as long as it is nice on his actual birthday so that we can take him out for the day. Think we are scrapping the idea of Legoland as it is 30 quid each for dh & i . Maybe we will try Birdworld instead. It has a farm and an aquarium and of course loads of birds.

Intheseshoes, wow your dh sounds fantastic!! How long do you think it will last??

Pink, I had issues with collapsing the p&t when we first got it, had to keep practising until i got it everytime. It is very easy to do, but the lady on the kiddicare advert told me to pull on side and push in the other, but in actual fact you have to pull both sides. Once i figured that out all was right with the world. Also, re the whole have they got the sex thing correct, when dd was born we werent convinced that she was a she. Dh had to have several looks to confirm!

LW, did you manage to resist the chocolate muffin for dinner??

Mrsjaffabiffa · 22/04/2007 11:12

Morning, dh playing cricket today so we are all off to watch. Another scortcher in Charante today too. Oh must find the sun cream!!

Cam, I'm from Bournemouth. There used to be a Crap Dry ski slope in Yoevil, is it still there? I trained there many a times. Pretty area, much quieter than Bournemouth!!!

APril...... I'm sorry about J's little party, what a shame. I hate to be the bearer of bad news too, but I thought the incubation period was actually Two weeks. The infection is contagious 3 days prior to the spots appearing and until they have scabbed over but it could take upto 2 weeks for the spots to appear after being infected. Sounds confusing, Sorry. In other words, the children who were playing with the child who has CP, would have had to be playing with him in the 3 days before but it could be upto 2 weeks before you know if they have caught it.
I could be totaly wrong of course but I looked into it quite alot last summer when h&m had it. They managed to pass it on to my friends children, we had 8 weeks of it in the end as the spots appeared 2 weeks to the day on the sibling. Erin was 7 weeks old when she got it. she was fine though.

Morning lovelies

Not very sunny here today, was looking forward to waking up and going to read a book or do some uni work out on the field but it looks too cloudy to do so.

AM sorry to hear about the chicken pox invasion on your ds' Birthday - of all days for it to threaten. Never mind, I'm sure no matter what you do with him it'll be fab. And no, I didn't manage to steer clear of the muffins

PinkJ just put the books down. In my opinion they are a waste of money. Some silly person telling you exactly how and when and what to say/do/want etc, you will be fine and so will your baby. You will be the best mum to your child, and she will think so too. I have the same worries, I'm sure we all do. But at the end of the day it's like a game of elimination isn't it. Eventually you figure out which cry means what, and when she's wanting a cuddle. You don't need a book to dictate to you how you are going to feel cause everyone's different. I think you'll be fab

ITS, when your done with your DH do you wanna send him over here? My kitchen's been trashed once again and could do with a good clean? Not bothering with buying a fridge, 2 weeks left of putting up with their crap and then I'm out of here. In the mean time I shall continue to twitch nervously and cry hysterically due to hormone overloads at their horrid behaviour as quietly as possible so that I can have some peace cause I'm too knackered to argue with them. Not like me at all to not say anything, but being 35 weeks pregnant has all of a sudden made me want an easy, calm, quiet life until the babies due lol!

MrsJB have a lovely day watching the cricket in your nice sunny weather. Grumble grumble, wish it was nice and sunny here! Have a fab time, and don't get burnt! That's the last thing you need - more discomfort!

Spoke to my sister earlier who said she is coming to see me next weekend I can't wait, she'll stop over Saturday night and leave on Sunday afternoon after we've done some shopping and been 'Ladies what lunch!' Am very excited about seeing her.

Oh and a quick question......
My boobs (much to my dissapointment) haven't really grown much bigger through my pregnancy. Will they get bigger when my milk comes in or will they just stay the same size? Cause I'm wondering what to do about nursing bras. Don't know what size to get!

aprilmeadow · 22/04/2007 12:20

oh no!!!!! Oh well i had better think of things to do on the days we normally see his friends. I know i cant escape it forever but if i can avoid it this time that would be great! I think it is going round nursery as well. We are not sure if he has had it.... last year he came out in 2 spots that looked like pox marks, but no one was 100% sure.

cameroonmama · 22/04/2007 12:36

Morning all, not so sunny here today either so we went swimming and now I am exhausted, ds whinged throughout the whole time.

Pinkj please don't worry, your baby will love you from the moment she pops out, no matter what happens and you will be a great mum to her, even when she is the only child in the swimming pool yelling her head off and she is having time out . It's true you often do get a bit blue around day 4 when your milk comes in and baby feeds often and a lot til it all starts gushing out, but really it is only 1 day of feeling yucky and it soon goes

LW re the nursing bras, like you my norks never grow to porn star status during my pregnancies and I find they get enormous only for a couple of weeks after the baby is born then they revert back to the same kind of size they are now, so the nursing bras I buy now, always work fine for me. Sorry your flatmates are being so rubbish, students heh? Not long to go now and I too think you are doing so well and are very strong and courageous.

AM, sorry to hear about the CP, but MrsJB is absolutely right, 2 week incubation and the child with the CP is infectious 3 days prior to the spots appearing and for the few days after they appear before they scab up. Shame about the party, but a day trip will be just as much fun for your ds I'm sure!

MrJB that ski slope is STILL there are you a fabby dabby skier then?

ITS, you are very luck to have a dh like that, (she says while dh is in the kitchen making the lunch!), how wonderful, don't let the National Enquirer take him away...

Welcome April ladies

MKG · 22/04/2007 14:57

Pinkj,

Don't worry about anything. It will all come to you. I had no maternal instincts until I was forced to well . . because I had pushed out a 6lb person 5 minutes before. Everything will be natural and it will all fall into place. There is no right or wrong way to be a mom, there is just the way that works for you. Take everything you read, and hear from other people with a grain of salt and go with the flow.

LW, When I bought nursing bras for ds the woman at the store measured me and made an estimate as to how big they should get. The size was fairly accurate. If you go they should be able to reccommend the size.

We're good here, my sister is visiting with her two kids. So I'll be busy.

check you guys later.

Pinkjenny · 22/04/2007 15:06

Thanks everyone - you're all wonderful.

Still pouring down here and my groin injury seems to be improving!

Pebble - I meant to say, I have had to wear a liner for weeks now - nothing is gushing out, but certainly a reasonable amount of fluid/discharge. I think its normal, as long as it doesn't smell or have a greenish tinge. Last time I went to the midwife she was measuring my stomach, and actually said to me, why are you wearing a pad? I was like, 'seriously, love, get your hand away from my knickers.'

scootermum · 22/04/2007 18:47

Evening all,

Pink dont worry-I felt much the same with DD and still to a certain extent with this one-although the worries are different..I did have a bit of a crash on day 8-think was just so tired and when DH gave me DD to hold I felt like I really didnt want her-it frghtened me to death..it lasted a few hours thats all and I think that was the hormone crash you get told about, (only no one had told me beforehand so I thought I was the worlds worst Mother-hence why im telling you in case you get similar)But I am sure you wil be absolutely fine! You will have some worse days than others of course you will, but thats just the way of it-but is doesnt mean you are in any way a bad Mum or anything...Sermon over-hope you dont think im being patronizing as dont mean it that way at all..

You are very welcome re the clothes SOH-and my one woman sit in at the post office will be averted for another day!

Hi to everyone else-have to get off and do some NVQ now-realised have left myself 3 big units to do in next 12 days and I dont really have that much time to do it as I have DD in the day time and things planned for some of the days, plus am pretty tired by the time I get Missy to bed and get to start on it, which slows me down some as well..ruddy thing...

Hope everyone ok this eve-speak to you all tomorrow night-no acess tomorrow as DH daring to take his laptop to work with him-well it is his work laptop I guess...

Juicylucytoo · 22/04/2007 19:48

Had a tiny scare today. After walking about 20 mins, got bad back pain followed by cramps. Got quite scared, but didn't tell DH as he was already looking worried enough for both of us.

However a sit down with cream tea made it all go away, so all back to normal. A friend told me she had had a few of these in the last few days, so I'm thinking it must be normal at 35 weeks.

Am stuck in the sofa now and will not be moving until I get up to go to bed (apart from the obligatory ten trips to the loo over the next 2 hours)

AbbyLou · 22/04/2007 20:10

Hi everyone, hope all's well wherever you all are! I'm joining the 'I've seriously had enough now' club I'm afraid. At this stage last time I was still working but I can't imagine that now. I just feel so incapacitated physically. I can hardly walk without everything hurting and aching. My bump feels so heavy I feel like I'm dragging it along all the time. I feel so bad for ds because I just can't take him anywhere due to my sheer weight!!
Pebble, I had leaking waters last time. It started during the night one night and I ignored it until the morning. In the morning it was Saturday and my plan was to wait until Monday and phone the mw. I got a little trickle every now and then and when I went for a wee it seemed to leak a little bit when I had finished. It was definitely clear and watery and smelt sweet. Someone told me it smells like semen but I'm not sure about that one. Anyway, I never made it to the Monday as on the Saturday night about 6pm my waters went fully with a big gush and ds was born 5 hours later!

Lwatkins · 22/04/2007 21:28

It's very quiet in here today! I hope your all just enjoying your Sundays and not doing anything silly - like having bbaies lol.

Scoot good luck with your NVQ work, I kind of know how you feel with regards to doing it. I have 2 weeks to write and prepare a presentation and do 2 reports/essays. I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing for them, and instead of having a small child to look after like you I have 5 apish flatmates - enough said, I sympathise

Juicy - you must take it easy petal. What is it wityh these May babies wanting to become April babies? Is there some sort of fantastic thing about April that these babies know about and we don't

Abby welcome to the club lol! Here's to feeling like a whale, swollen feet, stretchmarks and feeling generally pi**ed of - hormones I think that's called. Not long left, just keep telling yourself that, she says whilst biting her lip and twitching becasue stretchmarks are sooooo itchy. MMmmmmm, yup! Absolutley had ENOUGH NOW!

Right am of for the night. Going to watch Batman Begins and coo over Christian Bale whilst eating cucumber slices and snickers bars (not together).

largeginandtonic · 23/04/2007 08:25

Morning everyone.

Glad we are all keeping our babies in for the time being! I totally agree about the having enough though, i feel so unable to do anything.

Sleeping at night is the worst, Hugs has been up and down for a week now. It's killing me, he was being really good, im so fed up. I just have visions of getting out of bed to him while crippled with the c section scar and being up to the baby. DH does get up but quite often doesnt hear him, it is sometimes just easier to do it yourself. Of course it wont be easier for long

Pebble i hope your waters have not gone, best to get checked anyway though. Sure it is just like the rest of us, way too much discharge (yuk) Still better than the blood that is to follow. Good grief i sound like a misery this morning.

Am off to toddlers this morning and then hope to go to town, must get some easy access feeding tops for in hospital. Have just thought i dont want to be hoicking my nightie up round my ears to feed the baby with an audience As i am not usually in hospital and having visitors im pretty sure the etiquette does not involve full frontal nudity....complete with disposable, pad filled pants......Nice.

April i am going to send you some of our yummy fudge from here for sending me those yum KK's. Also i was wondering if MRSJB you needed anything from the uk to fill your hospital bag? I know we do fab Lasinoh nipple cream and Kamillosan for boobs and babies bums that im not sure you can get in France. Disposable pants, mat pads, anything like that? Just let me know and i will post it over quickly....just in case!

TYG how is your mum visit going? Has she started cleaning for you yet? Who is cooking? You should have your feet up.....i know pot calling kettle black

SOH have you now broken all family records at keeping a baby in utero the longest? I think you deserve extra praise for that one.

37 weeks today! Cant believe i made it here

largeginandtonic · 23/04/2007 08:28

Cam what is the routine for your section day? Ours is go in at the crack of dawn 7.30, and wait your turn. There are 3 sections planned that morning and i think im last. I expect he will be born about lunchtime, wander if we will share a time as well as a date??!!
