I had been avoiding OBEM for a while so I didn't have to think about labour/birth but my NCT and hypnobirthing have made me feel a bit better so maybe I'll give it another go.

WishIWasSleeping · 04/04/2017 23:47

Autumn- as I work for a CCG I should have a poshed up answer really! It's hard to explain, but;
We're a bit different to pals, we try to allocate money (ha!) to schemes and pathways, work to create new 'rules' to help patients get through the systems as smoothly as possible, and to try and improve old schemes that waste money and don't work well for patients. Each CCG works closely with a 'main provider hospital' and all GP surgeries in its area. We do deal with complaints, usually about service, and services provided, but we wouldn't be able (as far as I'm aware) to step in at such short notice to make them act for you, and we normally advise to contact the initial area first.
But yes, as nurse said, we basically commission, decommission and get all the bad press! I would stick a complaint in anyway, as they should still log it and look into it, make sure the hospital are working to contract, but be aware they probably won't be able to really act on it. xx

WishIWasSleeping · 05/04/2017 00:19

Oh why am I not asleep when DD has been asleep for over an hour and I have to get us both up, me washed and both dressed and out of the house for 7am tomorrow for the first time in almost 2 weeks..! And I didn't get my nap today! Tomorrow is going to be so rubbish! Confused

lullaby23 · 05/04/2017 03:26

Hope you're asleep now wish

Good luck with kicking some ass tomorrow autumn and hope they can sort out this scan business asap for you.

When I was pregnant with DS I couldn't get enough of OBEM and all the other baby/birth programmes on Discovery home & health but since having him I haven't had any interest in watching them.

I completely agree that the Antilop highchair is the best bet for messy weaning, so easy to clean and I chuck the tray in the dishwasher every so often. Any chair we have used that has complicated straps or reclining options has been more trouble than it's worth. My mum got a fancy Chicco one off Gumtree to keep at her house but eventually swapped it for an Ikea one too Grin We were given a Bumbo for free, didn't like the position it put DS in and also he had lovely chunky thighs that didn't really fit in comfortably it so wouldn't recommend personally.

WishIWasSleeping · 05/04/2017 06:32

Thanks Lullaby- I was until 4.30, then the dreaded need to pee and then drink water to replace pee awoke me! Only for half an hour though and DD is luckily still sleeping so I have managed a shower by myself and I am hoping to get dressed before I wake her. x
(Now I've jinxed it haven't I?!)
Hope everyone else had a more restful night. x

Rockyroad17 · 05/04/2017 06:40

I agree on the antilop. My experience (though not with my own children) is that many of the others look constantly grubby. It also comes apart so easily that if you don't have a great deal of room, it is certainly a less cumbersome option.

One thing to look out for though is if you have a head banger / DC who throws their head back. As it isn't padded they can get a bit of a shock! (Mind you, they soon learn their lesson!)

Oh and the price. They are under £15...

I don't work for ikea, honest.

Be aware of high chairs that have the clip to remove the tray underneath. I have seen the whole tray flung across the room where the baby has managed to push it off with their feet!

mightymouse76 · 05/04/2017 06:54

Morning all
Quiet on here, I hope that means better sleep for the insomnia crew! I was kicked awake from about 5. It's match day in there, clearly.

Good luck today autumn, will be thinking of you.

beanturnipandspud I totally empathise with the guilt about not being totally ready house wise but we can't give in to guilt! I am currently lying in a house without a single room 'finished' after a slow renovation turned into an utter panic upon the creation of this little man. We haven't had enough money to rush the works through (and save for Mat leave) so might only get our bedroom, the bathroom, and maybe, just maybe the hallways and lounge prepped, plastered and decorated/very basically useable before may 9th. Might get the bathroom sink attached too Confused. Not much furniture to speak of, kitchen will remain a ramshackle camp affair, and I'll have to stay elsewhere from next week on and off. Carpentry won't all be done regardless, and we've still got floors to sand (clearly won't be taking part in that now!). I'm terrified he'll arrive before we can get the basic bedroom work done and cleaned (he'll be in with us at first), or when the place is still caked in dust. Can't unpack pram or cot until last minute because of the dust and turmoil. Even struggling to wash his clothes as prep, as we don't have somewhere good enough to store them! Have beat myself up regularly about how close we are cutting it, and how it won't be possible to make all the areas 'perfect' before he gets here, but keep having to remind myself we have a roof over our heads and like you, will do our very best to look after and protect him whatever the circumstances...which I think rules out the bad mum vibes!! Try not to panic (I know how easy it is to say), but you will get organised in time. The move is a positive.

To everyone who shared their CS stories, thank you so much. I feel I am getting my head around it a bit more now. A friend described it yesterday as fine, and a bit like someone rummaging around doing the washing up in your tummy. After carrying this wriggly serpent, I think i can deal with that! The most painful bit was when the nurse tripped over her catheta lead Blush.

Have good days everyone- I've got another hectic, bonkers working one....wish I could stay here and start batch cooking instead!

vanilla8 · 05/04/2017 07:26

Morning all, I have been trying in vain to get a 34 week community midwife appointment but no joy as yet. So far I have only been seen at the hospital but they told me last week that I should see community midwife now every two weeks, which perhaps explains why I didn't see anyone at 24 weeks -
It appears the hospital referral to the community midwifes back in late November got lost!

Nausea seems to have returned today Blush
Have forgotten to take my Omeprazole in the morning the last two days so I wonder if changing the time hasn't helped!?

@EsmesBees I have an hour long commute on tube and have had to get off a few times for the loo! So annoying, especially if I have to exit the barrier.
TfL have produced a handy map of toilets inside/outside barrier which I only just discovered
http://content.tfl.gov.uk/toilets-map.pdf

EsmesBees · 05/04/2017 07:28

Don't worry mighty not only do babies not gives two figs about things not being perfect, it's actually way way easier to get house stuff done before they start crawling. We are no where near being ready either.

Hope the return to work goes well Wish. 7 am start with a toddler sounds brutal.

Good luck adventure. If you make a big enough fuss eventually someone will notice.

EsmesBees · 05/04/2017 07:29

Ooh that is really useful thanks Vanilla!

EsmesBees · 05/04/2017 07:31

And hope you get the midwife appointment sorted. Sounds like you've been lost in the system somewhere. There should be a supervisor midwife you can contact who should be able to help.

newbieho · 05/04/2017 08:11

@mightymouse76 our house is in the middle of renovations too and I have stopped worrying. We have got a roof above our heads, hot water, bathroom and the rest will be fine. As @EsmesBees said the baby doesn't care of decorations and perfect nursery. As long as the little one is surrounded by love and care he/she will be fine.

RasperryInAMelon · 05/04/2017 09:17

I do like having a morning catch up ☺

@Brightsmoke how was your last day?

@MrsJW15 I couldn't resist the ASOS sale... 🙈 to be fair, pretty much all of my maternity clothes are work clothes so I needed a few bits to get me through the next few weeks while I'm off!

Good to hear the advice on going home clothes for us, I'd planned on packing maternity leggings and a comfy top to come home in - so pleased that's been cleared up ☺

@1004Rise the nursery we visited assured us that they will continue with our home routines where we ask for that to happen which is comforting. I know a friend of mine struggled with this at first as she'd spent a year putting a routine in place and then nursery changed it all without talking to her which caused havoc at home!

@nursebickypegs I have no way of checking as still never been given a growth chart. I've started writing a list of things to do which has become quite substantial so I'm sure I'll have enough to keep myself busy. It sounds silly, but I said to DH yesterday that up until now, my existence has focussed around getting up, travelling, working, travelling and sleeping 😂

@Autumnsweater deffo get a complaint put together for PALS and perhaps mention it to the scan department too. A friend of mine has recently had her DD and was being messed around by a department, when she told them she was going to complain they miraculously got her an appointment

@Rockyroad17 I hadn't thought of the waters breaking and swimming thing - but my brains going overtime now! I guess it would also depend on whether it's your front or hind waters that go and whether you'd feel the pressure? Same with what if your mucous plug goes while you're in the shower...

@nursebickypegs I hope you're feeling better after your turn yesterday?

@EsmesBees I watched OBEM last night. Love the programme (please don't hurt me if we have any Liverpudlians here)... but I just can't deal with an overly strong Scouce accent so the young lad drove me insane 🙉

@Badgerbird the pads I have also have sticky pads on the back so you might get away with something like that inside a support vest perhaps?

@beanturnipandspud you're setting up home! Don't be silly - you're already a great mum and will continue to be!

@vanilla8 does your Midwife notebook appts as you're there? My last appt on Monday she booked my next two in?

I think I'm going to start on the cleaning today... one room a week (giving it a massive deep clean) rather than committing myself to having to try and do it all in one day and then a nap before NCT tonight ☺

Have a great day everyone!

MrsJW15 · 05/04/2017 09:44

Well I was up for ages around 4am! You lot were all quiet though. Was pleased to have a bit of a lie in, and now just getting ready to head off to the hospital for an MRI scan as part of medical research. Looking forwad to seeing this baby again.

Autumnsweater · 05/04/2017 09:55

Thanks everyone for your help!

I rang my local midwife team this morning IE NOT the hospital ones (thanks to those who suggested that) at first they said I'd have to deal with the hospital directly but when I said how stressed it was making me she was lovely and went and rang the hospital herself. Anyway she spoke to one of the consultants in the end and has managed to get me a scan for tomorrow at a different hospital followed by a consultant appointment! So result! Although I hope I don't actually need a consultant if you see what I mean!

Thanks again everyone for the support and helpful advice it really has made such a difference.

Wish your explanation makes sense! I guess I should still complain to them to hopefully make sure things are improved for the future. I think part of the stress of this has been the mixed messages/lack of communication even if the ultrasound dept is overstretched.

rasperry both my DH and I are originally from Liverpool (and didn't watch last night) but the strong accent of some of the young lads you here is grating on our ears! Half of it is put on as a weird macho thing and not a 'real' accent IMO.

newbieho · 05/04/2017 10:01

Great news @Autumnsweater hope the scan goes OK Star

newbieho · 05/04/2017 10:03

Am I the only one that cannot watch OBEM? It scares me and I cannot stand it Confused

savagehk · 05/04/2017 10:06

I used to like it but when I read more about natural birth and that sort of thing I started to find it very annoying. Haven't tried again for about 4 years!

1004Rise · 05/04/2017 10:15

Yeay @Autumnsweater glad you have an appointment now best news of the day! Grin

I've never watched OBEM and I don't think I want to start now.... Confused

EsmesBees · 05/04/2017 10:30

I love OBEM as I'm a sucker for a newborn, but the women always seem stuck on their backs with loads of intervention. The young woman last night didn't seem to move off the bed and she was in labour for ages.

That is great news adventure. Hopefully all will be fine and you can start looking forward to the big day.

Bean I'm intrigued by your three minute labour. How long were you contracting for in all?

Raspberry there was a recent thread on here about what the mucus plug looked like. I think the consensus was that you know it when you see it, so I can't imagine it being missed in the shower. Mine was like something from a horror movie!

lullaby23 · 05/04/2017 10:36

Good news autumn! Hope they can put your mind at rest.

The most painful bit was when the nurse tripped over her catheta lead ooh mighty that made my eyes water

raspberry/badger even with the adhesives I found the pads folded up and got out of place if not in a bra which was annoying. How do you fix the reusable pads on out of interest?

rocky Shock at baby kicking the high chair tray off!

RasperryInAMelon · 05/04/2017 10:38

@Autumnsweater that's awesome news! 👍🏻

@EsmesBees 🙈 fab to the horror movie connotation! It was something our NCT tutor mentioned the other day that can be quite common apparently as you're in a relaxed state. I guess I'll have to wait and see...

I wonder whether it's just me or if anyone else is suffering like this... I wake up starving most mornings now, have something to eat, usually some yoghurt and granola so nothing too big, this morning I had an apple and a few bits of Melon with it. Give it an hour and I feel awful, sick and tired mainly.

Oddly though, the only thing that seems to make me stop feeling sick, is eating something else.

Just me?...

RasperryInAMelon · 05/04/2017 10:39

@lullaby23 the ones I have aren't reusable, they're disposable lanisoh ones

Rustler74 · 05/04/2017 10:49

@EsmesBees that's what bothered me too about lying on their back! Seriously I think that they'll need to get their act together and consider showing more variety of birthing positions.
@Rockyroad17 I must say the young lad's attitude rubbed me the wrong way for more reasons than his accent. Call me hyper sensitive but I really started to dislike him. Oops

1004Rise · 05/04/2017 10:50

@RasperryInAMelon not just you, I'm back to the eat every hour or I feel sick Sad I think it's the heartburn. I purposefully tried to buy healthy snacks to avoid me eating rubbish Confused
