Rocky that possibility has never even occurred to me! Mine were broken for me last time, so no personal experience to pass on, but I think from my NCT classes that it's not like on the telly and for most people it's not the first sign of labour, so you'd be unlikely to be in the swimming pool anyway.

I foolishly had a cup of tea at work at 4 and then popped to the shops on the way home, forgetting that my bladder can no longer cope with any extension to my normal commute. I seriously thought I was going to have to get off the tube at one point. I've never been so happy to see a Starbucks loo. Don't forget your pelvic floor exercises ladies!

BouncingBlueberry · 04/04/2017 17:31

@nursebickypegs do you need to ring your triage/midwife?

savagehk · 04/04/2017 17:32

3 nappies every change?! that's a bit excessive...?

Re waters, mine went as first sign of labour, you'll know. Perhaps not if they go in the swimming pool, but you'll figure it out when you get out soon enough. If you're only trickling perhaps it will take a bit longer to realise, but even then you will realise!

nursebickypegs · 04/04/2017 17:33

@BouncingBlueberry I'm seeing her tomorrow at 1pm. I'm just absolutely tired and fed up being pregnant now.

Sipperskipper · 04/04/2017 18:27

autumn that is crazy. All I can suggest is tomorrow morning trying to get hold of either head of maternity sevices / head midwife, or the Supervisor of Midwives. I know its an issue with scanning, but it relates directly to your maternity care, and as such needs to be dealt with by those responsible for that care.

What a way to make a worrying time even more stressful for you. I hope you get it sorted soon.

1004Rise · 04/04/2017 18:31

@savagehk that's what I thought... maybe they just need more practice Confused

Barnes79 · 04/04/2017 19:59

I just got back from a tour of the maternity unit at the hospital where I'll be giving birth (Stepping Hill). I must admit I was shocked at how dingy it seemed. The midwife led birth centre seemed very hospital like (I'd kind of understood they weren't typically that hospitally) whilst the main delivery suite (where you'd have to go for inducing or CS) seemed like a basement from a hospital in the 60's. I don't know if I'm being uber judgemental because I work in a pretty much new build hospital but now I'm dreading going there and I'm just trying to think of ways to make it nicer when I go in... Confused

savagehk · 04/04/2017 20:05

@Barnes79 that sucks. Do you work at St Mary's / MRI? Quite honestly when I was in labour I didn't give a what the place looked like, but that was probably greatly helped that I suspect my glasses were off most of the time and I am pretty blind without them Grin. St Mary's only does an online video tour now...

Barnes79 · 04/04/2017 20:22

@savagehk Yes I work at MRI/St Mary's so a bit spoilt in terms of a new build hospital. Blush

EsmesBees · 04/04/2017 20:34

Barnes that's rubbish. Similar to savage I couldn't have cared less what the room was like when I was in labour. It could have been a farm yard as long as there was gas and air!

Anyone planning to watch the new series of One Born Every Minute at 9? I love it. Can't watch it with out crying these days though.

Badgerbird · 04/04/2017 21:02

peach we plan to baby lead wean so she'll have more or less same as us without the salt and chilli.

lullaby boooooooo Sad thought it was too good to be true! Was hoping a vest top with built in support might keep pads in place but they will prob just both end up dripping wet and stuck under my armpit whilst my boobs continue to squirt milk everywhere through the night!!

rise yep! Babies/kids are pretty messy full stop I find! Smile

nurseb can you see your dr incase you need something stronger? Some people need a transfusion don't they?Turns out I wasn't actually anaemic just low so I never took the dr ones but feel much better after taking these iron tablets

uk.iherb.com/pr/solgar-gentle-iron-25-mg-90-veggie-caps/69609

Also eating more iron rich foods, no tea near food and made a big batch of fresh beetroot and veggie juice for freezer.
How are you feeling now?

Badgerbird · 04/04/2017 21:16

Just turned over esmes Smile That couple Derrel and Maria are soooo cute I nearly cried!

PeachIcedT · 04/04/2017 21:23

I'm watching too Smileonly watched for the first time about 2 weeks ago but seems much more relevant now!

nursebickypegs · 04/04/2017 21:26

@Badgerbird that's my worry, really don't want a transfusion because I donate blood. I'm definitely going to try some more iron rich foods, I have no appetite at the moment. Still feeling poorly and DH can't leave work (he's on until 1am), so I'm going to stay in bed. Furbaby 2 is purring incessantly over me and trying to sit on bump but I don't have the patience.

@Barnes79 what do you do in MRI? That's where I started my NHS career! I LOVED it. I know what you mean by how something looks; Nottingham has two hospitals and I hate City, it's old and just looks... horrible. It's lovely and the midwives are fab, but looks mean a lot. I'm having my baby in Mansfield which is a new unit, when we did the tour we were really impressed.

WishIWasSleeping · 04/04/2017 21:26

I'll echo Savage & Esme - I did not give two hoots what the hospital rooms & Delivery suite looked like. I also didn't do a tour, But I do remember thinking I was quite impressed when I saw cleaners! Mine is an old hospital that I've visited a lot through the years with family members and it hasn't changed much for many years. I was just happy to have in the back of my over-anxious mind that everything I could have needed should anything have gone off track then the hospital had all the services on site and I wouldn't need transferring. (To an extent)

Autumn, I don't think your CCG will actually be able to do anything for you. They will advise you to complain directly to the service first. If they are any good they can take the details of the complaint, but they can't really step in or anything, especially within the timeframe needed. I'd definitely be raising it with the MW team and the related hospital departments though. I do like the suggestion of just turning up and sitting waiting. I know not the best plan for the day, but I recently did this at my local surgery for an appointment for DD (they said there were none) and before I even got to my seat a vacant appointment cropped up that afternoon... I hope they get their act together soon. Flowers xx

Nurse - my book told me to do the BM, to give a more familiar flavour whilst introducing new flavours. I have no idea if it helped! It was a free book as I was signed up to emails and crap from bloody everywhere!

I am too tired to watch OBEM this week and I'm back at work tomorrow as DDs spots are clearing (although still a bit weepy) Sad but she's off to nursery in the morning. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get us both out of the house for 7 when I haven't really been out of bed much before that this last week!

Barnes79 · 04/04/2017 21:40

@nursebickypegs I'm a physio. Grin

Autumnsweater · 04/04/2017 21:44

Thanks everyone again for the support I can't tell you how helpful I find it. Plan for tomorrow is to a) ring my midwife team (don't have a specific midwife really but it's a rural team who've all been great so far) and b) try to speak to head midwife.

Don't know how as am fully booked on morning consults with ongoing patients of mine/stuff that really can't wait, just to add to the stress!

Barnes that's rubbish. I've not done the tour yet so not seen the consultant-led bit but I didn't mind the birth centre. I was registered at Wythenshawe with my previous pregnancy (ended in miscarriage) and the beginning of this one, and that is run down too so I thought Stepping Hill nicer in comparison! Wythenshawe didn't handle my miscarriage particularly well and were generally quite incompetent at booking-in appointments etc which was why I swapped. Despite my current scan woes, I've found the maternity staff to be much nicer/competent-seeming here, and loads of colleagues gave birth here with no complaints. Trying to sell it to myself here as don't think I have much alternative!

Autumnsweater · 04/04/2017 21:53

wish what's the CCG, is that like PALS? NHS structure confuses me! I'll definitely contact the midwife team and hospital departments though.

The thought of just turning up really freaks me out (I'm imagining it happening to me in the middle of a fully booked day) but a few people have suggested this now, maybe that's what I have to pluck up the courage to do (feels so wrong!!).

beanturnipandspud · 04/04/2017 22:12

rockroad my experience with waters breaking.
Bean: 40 + 3 my knickers were damp, I was also cramping so rang hospital. They examined me and said it was amniotic fluid leaking. When I got off he bed I felt a pop and then lots and lots of water ... Bean was born 22hours later.
Turnip: 38+6 knickers were damp, no cramps. Called midwife who examined and said was waters. I was induced at 39+1 due to waters gone and no labour so risk of infection. They popped my waters as part of the induction process.

I felt the 'pops' as they went, and the slow leaking wouldn't happen just in the pool so you'd notice that too.

autumn I really just want to give you a virtual hug! The way you have been treated is just awful. Your plan for tomorrow seems a good one. I've got you in my thoughts.

Today we had our 32wk scan and dr apt. Dr still happy for us to birth at home. Spud estimated to weigh 4lb 8oz at the mo which is around 50th centile.
Dr started talking about my previous labours and my very quick 2nd stage and the risk of it being quicker this time (bean 13 mins of pushing, Turnip 3mins of pushing) and risk of bleeding. So now I need to read up on managed third stage or not, consultant advised on managed.
I came out feeling really strange, it's kind of dawned on me that we are really close. I think because we are in the middle of moving house that I haven't set a nursery up, I'm mentally not prepared for spud yet. Am I a bad mum? 😩😩😩

1004Rise · 04/04/2017 22:25

@Autumnsweater I think being pregnant is the one time you're allowed to be selfish without guilt, happy you = happy baby and that's the most important thing. I think your plan for tomorrow is good. If this is the way it works I'm sure your midwife team will have experienced this before so should be able to help. Lots of Cake & Flowers when what you really need is Wine &Gin

@beanturnipandspud how can it be quicker than 3 minutes?!? That sounds like you'll sneeze and spud will appear! Definitely not a bad Mum, moving house is just as important preparation as painting a nursery Grin

nursebickypegs · 04/04/2017 22:30

Managed to roll out of bed for some mango on toast. DH got a phone call from his somewhat estranged Dad moaning that I put on FB that Bub is a boy "and he didn't want to know". SERIOUSLY FAMILIES. Didn't realise that he was carrying the child!!!

Also I somewhat did it on purpose as I can't stand him and he has rung DH twice in this entire pregnancy Angry which is twice more than he has rang him in the past few years.

@Autumnsweater follow @1004Rise advice, be selfish!! CCG is the commissioning group for the trust, so like the "headteacher" as I think of it.

nursebickypegs · 04/04/2017 22:30

Mango on toast? Mango AND toast. Not a pregnancy craving!

Autumnsweater · 04/04/2017 22:46

@nursebickypegs, 1004Rise thanks, I will be brave and go in in the afternoon if my morning's ringing doesn't get me anywhere!

I quite fancy mango on toast now!

nursebickypegs · 04/04/2017 22:47

We are all here for you @Autumnsweater!

Rustler74 · 04/04/2017 23:01

Good luck @Autumnsweater I'll be thinking of you BiscuitTardisFlowers
@nursebickypegs Hoping you'll feel better soon CakeFlowers
Nearly finished OBEM on channel 4+1, not so charmed with the guy in the teenage couple, did he really get another gf to whom he was complaining about how hard it is on the phone? Ok he was there for the labour but still... I'd be devastated if my OH would go off with someone else!

The other couple was really sweet, and Des was such a softie, how cute!
