It only took us two weeks to fill up the last thread!

34ws and still being sick, not sleeping and getting the most horrendous acid. And the dreams...!!!!

Tell me this ends when baby arrives? Trying to stay positive and see it as training but it's really hard going at the moment.

RasperryInAMelon · 04/04/2017 05:40

5am is becoming a standard wake up time now... seriously...

nursebickypegs · 04/04/2017 05:49

Morning @RasperryInAMelon! I've just woken up as well. I'm going to make some cereal and try and sleep on the sofa. I'm so over being pregnant; I'm sick of being uncomfortable as it feels like baby is in my ribcage, I'm sick of the metallic taste in my mouth and I'm just fed up! Last week I was worried about him being way early but now I think I'd embrace it and encourage it.

What's everyone's plans for today? If the weather is nice, I'm going to try and waddle around the nearest park and then to Asda to pick up an order. A friend of ours bought us some burping cloths which I've never seen before in my life! They are softer than muslims and thicker too. I ordered a couple of packets plus a dungaree dress; I'm not 100% sure the dress will fit as my bump is all at the front but it gives me something to wear once he's here as I hate shorts. I'm going to try and read my BF book too.

Also it's not a fluke, Bub loves the Moana soundtrack. I played it later to show DH and he really gets a boogie on in there. Between that, DH voice and radio 2, he's a happy baby!

Autumnsweater · 04/04/2017 05:50

Yeah me too up at 5am 🙄

EsmesBees · 04/04/2017 06:10

Yep I was up at 5.30 too. Such a waste. I'll be done in by 3 but still be in the office and have the nursery run and bedtime to do.

Sorry you are still being sick teaspoon that's really hard going. I found it better after the baby was born last time. There was still no sleep and I was hyper alert, but you get the lovely hormones and adrenaline to get you through it.

MrsJW in contrast, my boobs hardly changed size at all. I wore the same.nursing bras through out the 10m I fed last time, and am wearing them now instead of maternity ones. There is no way of knowing how your body will react.

Rustler74 · 04/04/2017 06:26

Had been resisting phone but got bored being awake with sprout hiccuping through every position change and OH snoring and elbowing away, I finally gave in. Here we are! 5.30 was the earliest so far. Hiccups now finished after glass of lactose free milk and reflux slightly less angry too!

I too wonder if I should hold off on buying proper nursing bras although I'm not looking forward to lingerie shopping with a little baby in tow. The bravissimo shop is at 50-60 minutes drive so I'd rather have some in advance. I'll get measured and have 1-2 (with hand fitting in as well which Bf consultant advised) then if they fit well I can order more online. Ordered a few night sleeping nursing bras via Amazon as well, with my credit I was given for Christmas!
I have £35.00 left on the JL voucher which I'll keep for when sprout has arrived to see what I still need from gift list and order it online to deliver.
Seriously being awake this early is not good for me: I DON'T DO MORNINGS! Sprout does, clearly!
Tonight first NHS class at maternity unit, so I feel an afternoon nap coming on..,

Rabbitykins55 · 04/04/2017 07:00

Thank you for all the advice re nursing clothes. I think I'll hold off for now and see how things go. Smile

Badgerbird · 04/04/2017 08:27

Ofcourse! I can pop breast pads into a vest top (with an insert) rather than wear a bra in bed when bf can't I??

Doing agency nanny work this week, got some long days coming up but they have a Labrador puppy!!! Yay!!!

teaspoon that really sucks! SadBrew

Enjoy your NHS antenatal classes rustler, I loved ours! So far much more than hypnobirthing which cost us quite a bit... still, see what next classes bring.....

Have a good day all Smile

PeachIcedT · 04/04/2017 08:37

@Badgerbird and @ClaireSunflower interested that you're thinking of a vege/pesce diet - on my brief look at baby food I couldn't see anything without meat that wasn't super fruity but DH seems keen to make it from scratch.

Oh @newbieho you don't have long left! Did you decide to move your leave earlier? I'm still half tempted to but so far am managing. I think having to move around at work may even help a bit although yesterday repeatedly sitting up and down was hurting my back more than it would usually.

@jennymac31 your massage sounds great, hope it helped you to relax and destress.

@Autumnsweater really hope you have better scan luck today.

I didn't wake up early but I have a bit of a blocked nose and DH keeps protesting that I'm breathing too loudly! I may need to throw him out if this keeps happening! I don't know how he's a lighter sleeper than me when I'm the pregnant one.

At NCT yesterday we did practicals eg nappy changing but there were so many steps I came away pretty anxious that I have no idea how to do these supposedly simple things! Think I need to watch some YouTube videos.

Also they mentioned using cool boiled water to bathe baby - really?

jennymac31 · 04/04/2017 08:45

Morning ladies

Apologies for the strange question but are your nipples quite sensitive to the weather?
Since being pregnant my nipples get incredibly sore, itchy and sometimes painful when it quite cold despite how many layers of clothing I am wearing. Never really experienced this before.

EsmesBees · 04/04/2017 08:58

Peach it's a lot more intuitive when you have a real baby to practice on. You'll soon be changing a nappy one handed, in the dark, while messaging us on here about the annoyance of 3am explosive nappies.

Also, no, I have never used anything other than tap water to bathe a baby.

Brightsmoke · 04/04/2017 09:12

I would love to sleep in until 5! 3am is fairly standard for me, at least it gave me time to catch up on the thread. 5am is the alarm time! I'm hoping that changes soon so I can get a few lie ins before baby comes! Thankfully today is my last day at work! I am sooooooo ready for some time off. Though I'm really not sure baby wont make an appearance soon. Just another 8 days until I'm full term and can have a water birth. Hold on in there baby!

36 week appointment today, interested to see how big they measure baby at!

RasperryInAMelon · 04/04/2017 09:14

I dozed off not long after I'd posted that... very much of the same opinion as you @nursebickypegs - I've got 7 weeks off now, not a bloody clue what to do with my time I know I shouldn't moan but would rather not be uncomfortable all the time.

I have a couple of mystery shop visits that I need to get out to do today, nothing major but will be a good opportunity to drag myself out of bed and means I can earn a little bit of extra money while I'm off work.

I might nip into Bexleyheath and have a little potter around the shops and then an afternoon nap. I'm kind of taking each day as it comes.

@Rustler74 I'm with you on the shopping - think I might go before. Most people I've spoken to have said to try and wait until 36-38 weeks once bump has dropped so you have a good idea of a more realistic bra size.

A nap before your class tonight sounds perfect - all of ours finish at 9.30/10pm - don't they realise we're all pregnant and can't stay up that late anymore!?...

savagehk · 04/04/2017 09:39

I think the cooled boiled water might be for eye wiping. Although I don't think I did that and doubt I will this time! And nappy changing is much easier when doing it in person!

I know it's a bit far in advance but baby led weaning is really simple - essentially baby eats what you do (with no honey till 1, a bit less salt, and make sure that there's nothing that they could choke on). Have a look at this book if you want to know about both methods (purees and baby led); the 'pure' baby led book is this one, but I found it a bit preachy (even though we did 100% BLW except when out and about, taking Ella's Kitchen pouches with us for ease which he could just suck out the pouch). The BLW book is this one; or the recipe book (which I preferred, and it still gives you an intro to BLW, although less in depth) is here. In fact, for those on mat leave, reading about weaning now is a good idea as you probably won't get as much opportunity to later!

Re nursing clothes, I did get a few, and I do recommend them, but only a few - once baby's older you'll be much more relaxed about the whole thing and be able to make do with more normal clothes.

I'm small (34B); go up to 34C/D maybe when milk comes in, then back down. I'm still wearing nursing bras from last time round. The bump band thing is a good idea, if you pull up a top to gain access it means your belly is still covered. Nursing specific stuff is also good, depending on how it's cut and how faffy it is. A cardigan / shawl / scarf is also a good idea if you're shy.

WishIWasSleeping · 04/04/2017 09:44

Peach - ha ha! Enough cooled boiled water for a bath!?! That's amusing. Tap water here all the way. Always washed her face with clean water, rather than bath water though for at least the first month, as I used johnsons baby bath in the water.
I did use cool boiled water when DD looked to have a bit of conjunctivitis... soaked some cotton wool balls and used one per eye. But I think that's standard? Or maybe I was being a bit PFB!

savagehk · 04/04/2017 09:50

That's standard I think, but we never had any eye issues (perhaps unusually) so never had the need.

EsmesBees · 04/04/2017 10:07

That's right Wish that's the one time I have used cooled boiled water. Conjunctivitis is a menace. Getting eye drops into a 10 month old was not easy.

yellowismyfavourite · 04/04/2017 10:16

jenny my nipples are super sensitive... much worse than the first trimester. Not sure I am wearing the right bra size though... I went at about 16w to get measured at mothercare and the assistant was so rude I felt really embarrassed and haven't got measured since
I guessed for a few cheap nursing bras, planning to get measured at somewhere else once baby is here.

bright enjoy your last day of work. I am 37w on Sunday... will also be happy to reach that date cos I really want that water birth. Have always thought this baby will be late though... expecting to still be going at beginning of May!!!

MrsJW15 · 04/04/2017 10:23

Thanks Savage I really like the idea of baby-led weaning. In fact I was trying to explain to DM the other day that babys don't just have to have pureed baby food these days, but she seemed unconvinced!

I'm trying to avoid shopping at the moment (there's an ASOS sale right now) on the basis that I don't know how much longer I'll need mat clothes for and I don't really know what I'll want after. But it's tough as so few of my clothes feel comfortable at the moment. I have a couple of bf vests (H&M sale) and a few things that should work for bf. And I've bought lots of pjs!

WishIWasSleeping · 04/04/2017 10:42

We did a mixture of BLW and purée, mainly because we started at 5.5months as I was back at work at 6.5m, and I wanted to make sure she was trying flavours along with textures before I abandoned her for 4 days!
I think I got a free cow and gate book with quantities and 'how to' - was useful for me. She has her moments but now eats pretty much anything anywhere we go. She likes smoother things the more tired/ill she is. I always get comments on how well she eats. Cake she enjoyed chicken tikka and rice on Friday night!

WishIWasSleeping · 04/04/2017 10:46

Posted too soon ...
So suppose I was just too scared to go full on BLW like Savage!
My Mum also told me I was mean and that DD would choke... but then had no problem feeding her chocolate when we visited at 9mo! Grin
Glad to hear I wasn't being over the top with the boiled water for the eyes!
I didn't find Mumsnet until she was 9mo, so didn't really find reassurance like this group gives! x

McBaby · 04/04/2017 10:58

I will be getting nursing bras a couple of weeks after birth. My band size goes up a lot when pregnant but then comes down quite quickly after so no point being measured while pregnant. I was a 32ff before pregnancy up to 40e during then 34hh a couple of weeks after giving birth! Currently in hotmulk streatchybras as so comfortable as the spd means I can't move fast anyway, then I can use them for night time when baby is here.

We have done Blw with the girls (as I am lazy and like making one meal at each meal time so will do the same with the new one (except yogurt and weetabix which I spoon feed as can't face wiping it if everything)!

Spd is so bad today I can barley stand up! But as it's easter I have both girls all day so think they may have a lot of iPad, tv and snacks today!

1004Rise · 04/04/2017 11:20

@Teaspoon74 is it the acid reflux that's making you sick, if so I can sympathise... I'm constantly trying to eat something to take the taste in my mouth away to stop me for feeling sick. Would much prefer savoury stuff but for some reason that makes it worse. Can't even eat monster munch anymore Sad

Today's strange question, how pregnant do you still look after you give birth? I have som "normal" clothes that still worked til about 25 weeks was thinking of putting them in my hospital bag as going home clothes since I'm so limited on what still fits Confused

BLW interests me, but I haven't looked at it enough. @savagehk When you say baby basically eats what you do, do you just cut things up smaller... so boiled potatoes for example just need to be baby mouth sized rather than mashed? I've added those books to my book list.

I'm so ready to stop working, looking forward to Easter giving me 4 day weeks. I have very little patience (either that or people have got stupider) my concentration span is less than a goldfish and don't even mention memory. 13 working days left! Don't know what I'll do when I actually stop!!

Think I'll leave nursing bras til after baby arrives my back size is seriously out (think extender on extender in the last week) and I have a few soft/sleep nursing bras that will get me through at the beginning (I hope)

savagehk · 04/04/2017 11:28

About 4-5 months at first in my case, comes down fairly quickly, but you'll definitely still be in maternity clothing when you leave hospital. Plus you won't want anything too tight IMO.

BLW - one of the recommendations is actually to roll mash up into little balls so they can pick it up themselves. My son avoided mash like the plague until older, though... the idea is they can pick it up themselves (so bigger = better, although as their pincer grip improves you'll probably have great fun watching them eat individual grains of couscous...). His first 'food' I gave him was actually a very ripe whole peach at just before 6 months. More to play with than to eat. I'm not sure any went in....

teainbed · 04/04/2017 11:31

rise stuff that fitted when you were 5-6 months pregnant is about right for straight after the birth but very variable.

With weaning it can depend on the baby too. Before BLW was invented Hmm with my DS (who is now 12) you just gave them food. DS really like the finger food he could feed himself, and whatever we were eating and liked being spoon fed. DD1 similar but liked to feed herself everything. DD2 would not entertain any sort of self feeding and so was spoon fed until she took over at 1ish.
