Ooo, just discovered this thread Smile I'm due 26th March with baby no.4. I'm having growth scans this time as they reckoned baby no.3 was small (although that was never mentioned/was a problem at the time, all my babies have been small) it's something new they're doing here apparently. At least it means a get extra peeps at baby! Baby measured 3lb 11ozs at 31+3 and they said that was just fine. This baby was very much a surprise (I'm 40 Confused) and I still have days where I'm in denial, ha ha! How am I going to cope with 4 kids Shock Anyway, looking forward to chatting and hearing all our arrivals...and baby names, I'm obsessed with baby names! We keep changing our minds Blush

Carolann8584 · 01/02/2017 11:44

Welcome Whirlie

Congrats on bub number 4

whirliebird · 01/02/2017 11:45

Thank you x

Dustycorners · 01/02/2017 13:22

Carol glad you've had more movement. I had my second injection today - glad I don't need to have anymore!

Mother the twins appear to be boy and girl. I already have a son, so this will complete our family and I don't need to ever be pregnant again, thanks goodness Grin

Carolann8584 · 01/02/2017 14:47

dusty I have just got back to work after my second, didn't hurt as much as the first one, the MW said the lack of movement yesterday was strange it should have the opposite affect on the baby, so if it happens again after this injection I am to call the labour ward at my hospital.

Dusty How exciting, best of luck! Smile

Mother Did you struggle with anxiety/depression after the birth last time or just when pregnant? Might be good to get some support in place just in case you need it afterwards too. Hope you will be fine of course x

Genghis Thank you! Yes the last 36 weeks have gone so quickly that I'm sure the next 4 will fly by! It's very weird not having any idea when the baby will arrive...

whirly Welcome! Smile

Hugh Ah non-maternity clothes! I'm so looking forward to having more wardrobe options again! Although slightly dreading not being able to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes.

Welcome Whirlie, and congratulations on the surprise! Do you know what you're having?

Hugh are your other children excited about their new brother/sister?

Glad the second injections went well Carol and Dusty.

I'm also slightly dreading not being able to fit into pre-pregnancy clothes Name - I have put on more weight than I should have :(

My hypno-birthing book/cd finally arrived. I'm rather glad DH is away while I first attempt to listen to the cds as I know the comments he'll make!

Anyone else feel like they've been kicked in the fanjo? Last night I was in so much pain, I couldn't walk properly and was really wincing with the pain. The joys.

sueevone · 02/02/2017 02:28

Hi ladies

I'm from the December 2016 group and though it may be of some use to you ladies to hear what we have enjoyed/struggled with/ wanted to cry over since our little ones arrived as your all so close to the finish line.
Smile

I forgot how hard the sleepless nights are and how emotional and hormonal it all is and how I blame my dh on everything lol

I didn't anticipate the randomness of them sleeping. I think I assumed they would just wake every few hours - totally naive. Oh and the screaming will break you within seconds!

I agree!
I'd say my hardest has been trying to catch up on sleep. Everyone had told me, nap when baby naps to catch up on sleep but I've found it easier said then done. He either sleeps on me so not possible or doesn't sleep long enough so I don't get the chance.

Sometimes babies just cry for no reason at all!! I think they do it just to wind us up 😠

That some days you feel like you are concurring the world, and the next it all seems impossible. Having two has been much easier and much harder than I anticipated, but watching the bond grow between them is my greatest joy.

Just to enjoy them and not worry about routines unless you want to. This time goes so fast, and they grow so quickly.

I'd say listen to your baby and your instincts, learn their feeding ques have been the best thing I've done, I thought he needed to wear scratch mitts to stop him from scratching his face but I was told by a midwife in hospital to take them off as he'll suck on his hands when he's hungry and can't do that with mitts on, the other thing I learnt in hospital from one of the health care ladies was watch their nappies if they've wee-ed a lot or pooed a lot don't be surprised that they are hungry again before the next feed is due!

That there is no pattern to how often a breastfed baby will want to feed in the early days, and cluster feeding doesn't mean that they aren't getting enough milk!

So many things... I think the first month is really hard.

  • I wasn't prepared for how hormonally weepy and fragile I was for weeks after birth.
  • I knew breastfeeding could be hard but I was not prepared for it to take 4 weeks to establish (but worth it).
  • Night sweats. Oh my god.
  • I think it helped that I had very low expectations on the sleep front, so whilst it is really really hard it's not a shock!
  • But ultimately, it will all be ok! 💪🏻

The 3 c's - clingyness, crying for no reason and crankiness!
Can't put them down unless they're on you etc.

Find out about your local breast feeding support meet ups in advance, they've been so helpful for me

That your nipples can hurt quite a lot at the start even if you're doing it right. Absolutely get your latch checked, but it still took mine a good 5 weeks just to "toughen up"

I read "the womanly art of breastfeeding" (the la leche league bible) when it was leant to me when I was struggling, but doing so before birth when you have time and can concentrate would be so much more valuable

Also, it's perfectly normal for them to be clingy and not want to sleep anywhere else but on you for a while. Research how to cosleep safely, brief your other half that they may be kicked out of the bed for a few weeks, and don't beat yourself up about it

Also rubbing nipples in breast milk and letting them air dry is the quickest way to repair them when damaged

whirliebird · 02/02/2017 11:27

Hugh my other kids are girl-12 boy-10 and girl-6 so a very big surprise to be starting again especially since my youngest started school in the summer!
Genghis I don't know what I'm having as we don't get to find out where I live (remote Scottish island) I could pay to go to the mainland for a private scan but I don't see the point. It's one of the few beautiful surprises left in life and I think it's so exciting not knowing. It will be one or the other, ha ha!
Hope you're all keeping well? Morning sickness seems to be creeping back now I've hit 32wks, marvellous Confused

Carolann8584 · 02/02/2017 11:46

34 weeks today, beany still rolling around her bump. bit of back ache today, first so far no other complaints (makes a change lol)

Just had an early lunch as I need to pop home during my lunch break. stuffed now (easily done) and want a nap Smile

NameChange30 · 02/02/2017 16:51

Genghis
"Anyone else feel like they've been kicked in the fanjo? Last night I was in so much pain, I couldn't walk properly and was really wincing with the pain. The joys."

Yes! I had lots of the dreaded fanny daggers the other day. And I've been in pain today, feels a bit like period pain and a bit like baby is pushing down on my cervix... I've no idea what it's supposed to feel like but I know baby's head is down and I think that's what it is! What does yours feel like?

Today was my last day at work and my colleagues made a big fuss of me, gave me lovely presents and flowers Smile I've been so looking forward to finishing and now I have it feels rather surreal! I have nothing to distract me from the imminent arrival of a baby now!

OP posts:
Carolann8584 · 02/02/2017 16:59

Awwww that's lovely Name Not the fanny daggers but your last day Smile

My LO is still feet in ribs but I haven't had any pains below. Bump is still high and solid.

3 weeks left in work now, they have started to be a little nicer to me, not had the cold chill atmosphere in a while which i always nice Smile

Had a meeting yesterday, because of the latest scan results etc, they wanted to know if I was still finishing as planned, told them It's staying the same unless she decides to come early.

MotherofA · 02/02/2017 17:21

Hehehe oh how I love catching up on here , had a few giggles , especially at the fanny daggers !
How random that a few of us have had growth scans this time and also that the morning sickness made a reappearance?! I do feel better today though . Sadly seem to have lost all motivation for cooking and eating though which is my passion .
Hugh the thyroid thing is crazy isn't it ?! I was started on 25 argh . As for the non maternity clothes , I have also seen a few bits and been getting very tempted !! I am determined to be my normal size after !!
Name thanks for asking , I can't really remember how I was after last time but I definitely think I was worse during the pregnancy . I am ok most days but just puts a bit of a downer on the pregnancy !

Is anyone having a baby shower ? I didn't want one and don't expect gifts but I've arranged a ladies lunch as a chance to get together before Bubba arrives which is on Monday and I kind of can't be bothered although I know it will be nice.
Have people bought many baby clothes ?

Willie how amazing starting again ! Welcome Smile I have an exactly 10 year gap between mine so I really don't remember much at all haha 😂. I am one of four though and loved it ! I bet your older ones will help .... fingers crossed they do anyway haha:

Here are a couple of pics of baby's clothing collection ....

Hahahaha I defo remember the heavy pushing feeling urgh !

I can't believe soon we will all be sharing exciting news and names weights etc SmileGrin

MotherofA · 02/02/2017 21:56

I don't know if anyone is interest but I just got an angelcare nappy bin for £7.50 off boots with a cassette of bags !
Only getting one because it's a treck to our wheelie bin and I hate smelly nappy bins haha x

NameChange30 · 02/02/2017 22:19

Carol Thanks Smile Glad your colleagues are being a bit nicer atm!

Mother I'm not having a baby shower, my mum did offer but we're just having a low key lunch instead, same as you. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours Smile
We've bought a few baby clothes, not many, but we've already been given loads as presents! Different sizes though so I need to check what we've got in newborn and 0-3 and probably get some more.

Hugh Yes I also heard that pressure on the cervix from the baby's head helps it to dilate, so maybe there is something in it!
Your kids sound adorable btw Smile

Slightly overdid the smileys in that post, oops! Blush

OP posts:
MotherofA · 02/02/2017 23:33

Hehe I like the smileys !
Yes hopefully the lunch will perk me up and it's good to get out I guess too .
Well I have probably gone a little ott with clothes as I don't know what gifts I will get yet from family etc . Also a friend gave us a huge bag of up to 1 month stuff (which I hadn't really bought any of ) I was so overwhelmed ! I have a nice amount of 0-3 stuff I think but not too much SmileGrin

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 03/02/2017 00:00

Hugh that sounds very cute! I bet they love it when your bump moves. I like the sound of the the cervix dilating with the pressure of the baby's head - maybe we should all take up trampolining closer to our due dates!

I bet your 10 year old will be delighted Mother! I was 9 when my DB was born and it was like having a living doll - he was the best thing ever! I probably annoyed my Mum though wanting to hold/mind him all the time :) Nice work on your clothes collection (did I spot bunny slippers? So cute). I actually have the baby's clothes sorted until it's at least 12 months - sounds weird but there is just not the availability here and what is available is really expensive so I stocked up on everything when I was back in Europe.

Great that they're being nicer to you Carol - about time! I hope the three weeks go quickly.

That will be a lovely surprise Whirlie. Sorry the morning sickness is back, and hopefully it doesn't last long...mine is now just on odd days so I'm hoping it stops again soon - hooray!

Congratulations on your last day at work Name - it sounds like a lovely send off. The term fanny daggers always makes me laugh! I also have them/the pressure down below but this was honestly like someone karate kicked me with a steel capped boot - more like in the pelvic bone. Anyway, it all now just feels bruised and is only really painful when I stay in one position for very long. I googled and they mentioned ligaments stretching in your pelvis so maybe that's it. Anyway, I'll live Grin

Your lunches sound lovely Name and Mother - I hope you both enjoy them!

MotherofA · 03/02/2017 00:14

Thanks Ghenghis ! Yes funny story about the slippers ! We took DD to pick something for the baby and she picked a bunny in John Lewis .... paid etc then she found those slippers to which we said no as had already paid . Low and behold the following week the friend I mentioned gave me a pair! DD was absolutely over the moon !
Haha about the clothes , I'm not too far behind actually Blush I stocked up on winter stuff in bigger sizes in the sales because I remember panicking every 3 months with DD like shit nothing fits and thought better to get stuff in sales . However everyone finds this odd of me (don't care meh) haha.
Hope your sickness goes soon !

Carolann8584 · 03/02/2017 00:51

Just had another sort through the clothes we have bought, both nans have bought quite a few things as well, my DM has gone up to 6-9 months Smile

Think we are sorted for 0-3 and quite a bit for 3-6. We only had 1 set for newborn so went out a got a pack of vests and sleepsuits just incase. Measured the newborn against the 0-3 and difference was more than expected

MotherofA · 03/02/2017 01:02

Ahhhh that's lovely carol , so exciting ! Yes tbh I wouldn't have bought any newborn just a few vests & sleepsuits but was given literally a drawer full including outfits etc . My DD was 8lb3 and I didn't really need newborn stuff much at all but who knows this one may be a lot smaller !

Cloeycat · 03/02/2017 07:59

I have a good mix of clothes in different sizes. My dad is so funny he lives abroad in a hot country and has bought quite a few v summery (white linen rompers) in 3-6m in a bid to convince us to come out during the summer for a jolly 😂 Think we will probably take him up on it. But unless we get a v hot summer in the UK most of the outfits will not be suitable here at all!
