tipboov sorry to hear about the GD. Good thing they caught it nice and early, hopefully it won't cause too many issues xx

nightcap · 02/09/2016 18:06

southdowns we might have been on the same train! It was delayed and really packed, I didn't get a seat though. Luckily I was only on for 20 mins.

Does anyone else find the whole train seat thing a bit awkward? I quite often hear myself saying 'don't worry, I'm ok' when someone offers, even when I really want to sit down (then just think a big 'd'oh!' In my head)...

Babydreaming · 02/09/2016 19:14

How do you know if you need a GTT? I'm 26w3d and nobody has mentioned one to me? I assume I don't need one, but want to check!

OrianaBanana · 02/09/2016 19:20

Babydreaming As far as I know in the UK the lucozade challenge comes first and shows if you need one, and that's done routinely around 28 weeks (?) - your midwife should mention it.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 02/09/2016 19:26

What's the lucozade challenge?? I got a leaflet through about the GTT saying it's based on factors (have taken a photo of it) hope that helps.

Glad the scan went as well as expected south.

In the east mids it's standard if you're under consultant care, whether you have any of the risk factors or not, which I suppose is good for me as otherwise it wouldn't have been discovered!

I've been really upset because I really wanted a natural, midwife-led birth and my consultant agreed after I'd met with the supervisor of midwives and discussed my previous births. But now I'll have to have continual monitoring and I've gone back to consultant-led care. I know it's what's best for the baby but I hate hospitals and really didn't want to give birth in the labour suite this time. I was over the moon when they agreed to let me go to the midwife centre Sad.

lovewatching the lucozade test was basically fasting overnight, then a blood test, followed by a big cup of room-temperature lucozade. I had to sit in the waiting room for 2 hrs, then have another blood test. I took a good book with me but it still really dragged.

SolomanDaisy · 02/09/2016 19:47

Gosh, I didn't realise it would be continuous monitoring and consultant led care for GD! That is really upsetting. I'm having to give birth in hospital after a home birth last time and the idea takes a bit of getting used to.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 02/09/2016 19:53

Oh Tip I'm sorry to hear that, that sounds awful especially when you when managed to get the care you wanted an now it's changed.

TipBoov · 02/09/2016 19:56

That's a shame Soloman. I really wanted a home birth but I live further from the hospital this time around, and I just feel that I'd rather not take the risk, so thought midwife led would be better. I think I'll have to try and find ways to keep the room calm.. Hopefully I'll be allowed to have the lights off inbetween checks or something!

OrianaBanana · 02/09/2016 20:37

In my area the Lucozade challenge is given to everyone. You eat and drink normally, then drink 273ml Lucozade then get bloods done exactly an hour later. If your results are worrying then you go for a GTT, which is fasting then going to the clinic, blood taken then given a drink then having blood taken a set time later later.

Bigfam · 02/09/2016 20:53

I've never heard of the lucozade thing! Sorry you're upset tipboov but at least you know and can manage it to try and avoid problems.

Glad babysouths heart scan went well Smile

SouthDownsSunshine · 02/09/2016 21:08

oriana that's the lucozade test I'm doing as well. Got it at the same time as my anti d. Fun! They offer it to anyone with one or more risk factors. I'm getting it because I'm over 35, even though I don't have any other factors.

Popskipiekin · 02/09/2016 21:11

Really sorry to hear about the GD Tipboov. Obviously good they've picked up on it but so disappointing you have to get used to different level of care.
I'll be doing the glucose challenge soon (like Oriana, you don't fast and it's just an hour wait; move on to fasting GTT if you don't pass the challenge). Fingers crossed.
nightcap I'm just the same. My commute is always so crowded that wearing a baby on board badge would just be awkward as nobody could give me a seat, so I actually hide my bump under a rucksack to avoid anyone even thinking of offering a seat!

goinggrey1978 · 02/09/2016 21:29

hi anyone know if your allowed to take cough mixture when your pregnant?? developed a smokers cough and coughed up some nice green gunk, which i thought was a good thing, as its better to cough it up than leave it there!!

becciandbump · 03/09/2016 01:00

tipboov sorry about your test results but glad they caught it early. Out of interest did u have any symptoms?

becciandbump · 03/09/2016 01:03

Posted too early... It was just I've been peeing a lot (which could be just pregnancy) and very thirsty last week I've also gained a lot of weight. I have my test on wed I wouldn't be surprised if I had it

barkingtreefrog · 03/09/2016 08:15

Ooo, nearly full! Give me 5 minutes I'll post another thread and come back with the link.....

barkingtreefrog · 03/09/2016 08:22

New thread HERE Grin

veryfriendlylion · 03/09/2016 10:01

goinggrey you could try warm lemon and honey and drink lots and lots of water to help thin the mucus you're trying to cough up? With my nurse hat on, I've always found cough mixtures a bit of a con but I suppose if the placebo makes someone feel better then that's enough in itself! Some cough mixtures have pain killers/local anaesthetic in them so check it's a simple mixture (which is basically sugar and honey anyway!).

If the mucus is really dark and you feel unwell (and don't improve) I'd see your GP as your bump encroaching on your chest could be stopping you getting rid of the muck on your lungs and could result in chest infection. Hope you feel better soon!

....I realise that sounded really preachy

kt01 · 26/10/2016 16:02

I haven't put on much weight at all only about 4lb & im 18 weeks on friday, although I do have a bump now :-)
