Absolutely fine with me. I think DH is a bit jealous of my pregnancy groups! He wants people to talk about the pregnancy with and loves being one of the girls!!

No objections from me- think it might be interesting to hear from the partners pov at some points anyway

DaisyBank82 · 09/08/2016 19:44

Eek do we need a new thread soon? Pathetically, I don't know how to do that/ where to start.

NameChange30 · 09/08/2016 20:00

LRD
Well, everyone else's responses have made mine look rather bad! As I said, I'm fine with it if the others are Smile And actually the fact that you're a woman makes me feel more comfortable (even if that makes me open to accusations of sexism and man-hating as it might do elsewhere on MN!)
How far along is your partner and when is the baby due?

So DH and I just went for a short, gentle walk around the block... And now I feel breathless and in need of a lie down!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/08/2016 20:10

No, you don't look bad at all, and I am very conscious that the important thing is that everyone else on this thread should feel comfortable. I am absolutely happy not to join, if anyone feels at all uncomfortable. DP's 7 weeks, 4 days, and due 25th March. I would imagine I would mostly just listen to what you all have to say, and post if she wants to know something (or if we're excited - we are at the moment because today we saw the heartbeat, which is what made me think of looking for this thread).

But, again, won't consider myself an active poster until everyone's had the proper chance to weigh in.

MrsMushrooms · 09/08/2016 20:13

Congrats on seeing a heartbeat! We saw one on Saturday and it hasn't quite sunk in yet

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/08/2016 20:16

Oh, how lovely for you! Smile Isn't it the best thing? DP said she looked at some research and it broke down how much less likely miscarriage is once you get to that point - because all the stats I've seen have been for first trimester as a whole - and it was hugely reassuring.

Happygojo86 · 09/08/2016 20:18

LRD welcome to the group! And congratulations on your happy news. You will be experiencing a lot with your DP and personally think that as a women you will be able to be a lot more empathetic than a man (maybe a bit sexist of me!)

9 weeks today for me. Feeling like crap but pretty positive about the pregnancy atm for some reason. Although I am struggling with DD who was 1 yesterday and seems hell bent on either killing herself or giving me a heart attack. Makes me think I am insane for having 2 under 2!

MrsMushrooms · 09/08/2016 20:19

What did she find out for 7 weeks? I've yet to find a good answer! We had 3 losses in a row before this pregnancy and I had read that the chances of things being OK after a heartbeat at 8 weeks were around 98% so we went for the scan at 8+1 and found that there was a heartbeat but that I was actually 7+2! So we're back to panicking a bit now

NameChange30 · 09/08/2016 20:22

LRD (and anyone else who's interested)
These week-by-week miscarriage stats are from "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster.

NameChange30 · 09/08/2016 20:23

(These are general stats and I presume the odds are even better if a heartbeat is detected)

MrsMushrooms · 09/08/2016 20:24

Thanks, NameChange! I wasn't keen on her book tbh and those stats seem a bit different to those I've seen elsewhere - perhaps it's just slightly out of date now? Still a handy indication of the pattern at least!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/08/2016 20:26

Thank you for the stats NC!

Mushrooms - I will check! DP works in stem cell research so it is possible she will have been using an academic source from very new research. I'm sorry if I've brought up worries for you (although I do know the feeling and very much sympathise).

happy - thank you! And hope you feel better soon.

NameChange30 · 09/08/2016 20:27

Interesting, why didn't you like the book? We discussed it a while back (might have been a previous thread) and I had a few reservations too. I prefer "Bump"!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/08/2016 20:30

Ok - this is DP's area so I do not understand, but she says she is working from the data here, which provides points for 6 and 8 weeks: www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/information/ultrasound-scans/

Apparently it is possible to work out from that at 7 weeks it is 95%. I don't quite follow, but she says you can work it out from the info at 6 weeks and 8 weeks.

I hope that's some use!

MrsMushrooms · 09/08/2016 20:32

That would be great, LRD, thanks! I'm very keen on academically verified information - it is often lacking when it comes to pregnancy advice!

NameChange, there are a few things I didn't like, but mostly she just came across very unlikeable and patronising! It also felt like some of her sources were a bit cherry-picked but I can't claimed to have done enough research myself to be certain a of that - it just felt a touch off to me. I've not tried Bump! but I'm definitely on the look out for some more reading :D

MrsMushrooms · 09/08/2016 20:37

Thanks LRD - I had seen that page but not worked out the 95% figure. It's been a while since I studied maths though so I'm going to go with it as it seems similar to what I've seen elsewhere (mostly suggesting 90-95%) and it does tie in quite well with the curve I have in my head (being a bit selective with my sources myself now!) :D

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/08/2016 20:56

Let's go with it!

I have spent a lot of the last few weeks just nodding when DP says something to the doctor TBH.

MrsMushrooms · 09/08/2016 21:04

Nodding is good :)

NameChange30 · 09/08/2016 21:18

MrsMushrooms Yep I agree with you about "Expecting Better"! Do check out "Bump", the tone is very different.
But I do like the graph because the line goes down in a very pleasing way Grin

MrsMushrooms · 09/08/2016 21:20

Thanks for the recommendation, NameChange! I've just got it for Kindle :D
