I was on an old birds ttc and ante natal thread when I was pregnant with Ds. I'm pregnant again, aged 38, and wondered if there were any others interested in joining together on an older mums thread?

Not that I feel particular aged or anything, but some of the threads gets very busy and it's nice to have a smaller group.

Welcome Potato!

Wow, Bean, so exciting!

Had my 12 week scan yesterday (NHS dating scan). Babi was well behaved, did her measurements and as a result it put me at 13+4 and not 13+1. So new due date is 16/06/17. Babi was hiccuping a bit which was ironic since I'm not a drinker haha but otherwise she looked adorable! Off to keep knitting blankets and other little bits.

Cuppaqueen · 14/12/2016 14:40

Oooh, great to hear all your good news! Xmas Smile I'm 22 weeks now and baby is kicking every day, which is lovely and reassuring but also simultaneously making me think: this is really going to hurt when he's bigger!!

Re clothes, I did get a couple of silky tops in H&M maternity - not really vintage-style but look good with skinny jeans, nice and bump-skimming. I'm with you on the bodycon dresses, pink, not a fan.

Welcome potato, congrats on your pregnancy Smile Had you been trying long or is this one a surprise??

JasperPotato · 14/12/2016 15:21

Thanks Russ and cuppa, and congratulations to you both. It must be exciting to get to the scan stages, I imagine it makes everything feel more real.

DH and I have been trying for close to two years so this is most welcome. I know it's very early days and I hope our luck continues!

Can I ask you ladies when you plan to tell people? Ideally I'd like to wait until 12-14 weeks but spending Xmas with family plus all the social stuff this time of year, eyebrows are already being raised when I politely decline a G&T. For Christmas we won't be in a position to serve ourselves drinks so the old trick of replacing the wine with non-alcoholic such-and-such is not possible. Any suggestions are welcome.

MumofthreeandBean · 15/12/2016 09:51

jasper i Just told family before my scan, after I have told people that have asked, I did tell my clients so they are aware as I'm expecting twins and started showing pretty early.
I don't feel everyone needs to know.

JasperPotato · 15/12/2016 12:11

Thanks bean, and congratulations on your twins!

I booked a scan this morning for next Wednesday. I feel like I need to know that there's a heartbeat and I can't bear the thought of having to wait until the end of Jan.

I think if anyone straight-out asks me over Christmas and new year, I'm not going to lie but I'm also going to tell them to hold off on being excited. They will understand.

pinkcandyflossy · 16/12/2016 08:48

Welcome potato :)

And yes cuppa I also went on h and m online and saw quite a few nice bits.

Yesterday I bought a few oversized dresses from Cos and also a 100% wool ultra fine knit super fitted polo neck. It's really long all but as it's fine knit you decide if it's long or ruched to be shorter. I am going to get a lot of wear out of this :)

It's strange as for my first pregnancy I was all about the bump and was really proud etc and with my second this dwindled a bit and with my third I'm like happy not to look all bumpy and just can't wait to meet the baby.

I've started telling everyone my news inc work. I've also worked out what I want to do maternity leave-wise. So I'm thinking I'll take 3 months at full pay and then my fiancé will take 3 months off his maternity package and then we'll both go back to work when the baby is 6 months and so we are fully paid the whole time. Works on paper no idea if it will go that way and if we won't want to go back to work at 6 months....!

What's everyone else doing?

MumofthreeandBean · 17/12/2016 06:44

Well after finding out that I'm having a boy and a girl I went and bought a massive bundle of newborn/0-3 clothing Grin

Russkispy · 23/12/2016 14:25

Jasper, did you have your scan? Is everything ok?!
How's everyone else doing?
Got random headaches ans nosebleeds but ok otherwise.
Wishing you all a lovely Christmas!!!! 🎄🎄🎄

JasperPotato · 23/12/2016 15:35

Hi all, hope you're feeling well today!

Russ, thanks for asking. Had the scan on Wednesday and there was our little blob with a flickering heart! The sonographer said it was measuring closer to 8+1 rather than 7+4 that I had calculated but everything looked fine.

I was so happy and relieved because my symptoms hadn't been very strong and were kind of coming and going. However, the past few days I've been feeling constantly queasy but I'm not going to complain. I'm so grateful to be ticking along ok so far!

How is everyone else doing? I hope you're all set for Christmas. Xmas Smile

Russkispy · 23/12/2016 16:15

Jasper, that's good to hear!! What a relief!! And yes, feeling all that rubbish pays it off in the end! I'm not showing yet, just feelin bloated all the time and not feeling much like pregnant but my insomnia continues and I know I'm still very much pregnant! Hope it passes soon! I'm so so tired!!

JasperPotato · 23/12/2016 22:01

Russ, I hope you get some time to rest over the next few days. This period of feeling rubbish will be over in a few weeks (hopefully). It will all be worth it in the end!

JasperPotato · 23/12/2016 22:17

Russ, I read your message and basically regurgitated it back to you! There was a five minute delay between reading and posting and your words obviously resonated with me Grin

MumofthreeandBean · 24/12/2016 06:57

I have been so preoccupied with this pregnancy that Xmas has crept up on me!!

Russkispy · 29/12/2016 22:46

Hi Jasper, how are you feeling so far? How are the symptoms? Hope you had a ni e Christmas!
How's everyone else doing?

JasperPotato · 29/12/2016 23:17

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good Christmas!

Thanks for asking, Russ. I hope you've been feeling better. My in-laws thoughtfully gave me a stinking cold for Christmas. Normally I'd dose up on decongestant and power on through but not this time. My husband found a nasal spray called Sterimar which is safe to use in pregnancy - it's just saline but it's helped my sinus congestion. If anyone has some other suggestions I'd welcome them!

We told our families at Christmas, although we did remind them that it was still early and to keep a lid on their excitement until 12 weeks. This would be my parents' first (and probably only) grandchild so they are chuffed to bits!

Did anyone else break the news over Christmas? Did it feel good to get it out there?

lilyborderterrier · 29/12/2016 23:27

Hi can I join, I'm 38 and 5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd one, due in September when I will be 39 Shock
I had my first in 2013 and she is nearly 4 (February ) this baby was planned and we are very excited but my daughter is very strong will and will be starting school the week the baby is due so it'll be full on.

JasperPotato · 30/12/2016 13:51

Can I ask - is anyone having the Harmony test or had it? Did you get definitive results? I've booked it for the second week of Jan.

Russkispy · 30/12/2016 15:04

Hi Jasper, I had Nifty (Also known as Harmony test) done when I was 10+1. It was at a private clinic in London, and it cost £315 plus scan of £110. They scanned me first, took measurements, then too blood test and asked me if I wanted to know the gender. And I said yes. 3 days later I got my results. First, they called to discuss it all, then asked again if I wanted to know the gender and I reconfirmed. I was told everything was good, low risk and a few minutes later, I got a confirmation letter stating low risk for Down, Platau and Edwards syndrome and shower the risks in numbers.
This test is 99% accurate.
Then I had an NHS first trimester scan and they asked me if I wanted to test for Down's Syndrome etc. I said yes. I know their results are around 80% accurate. Anyway, the nurse said, if there's a high risk, I'd get a call a week after the blood test. Nobody called me. So that confirmed low risk from NHS too.

Teaspoon74 · 02/01/2017 13:18

Hi all - could I join you?
I'm a 42yo first timer currently at 20w+4.
Terrible 2nd trimester (sick, headaches, fatigue) so hoping the glow comes soon!
All a bit unexpected and still kinda coming to terms!
Looking forward to starting my antenatal class and meeting local mums to be as most friends are either childless or have. Teens by now!!!

MumofthreeandBean · 06/01/2017 06:47

Hi teaspoon
We are due around the same time but I am expecting twins.
I had my first batch of children at 22,24 & 27yrs and I found the older mums were so kind to me at playgroups, school gates etc that I preferred meeting up with them so I'm sure you will make new friends too once baby arrives.
