Due in September 2007 - anyone else out there? What happens next?

OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

Oh congratulations!

You can tell your GP which makes it official and that's it really. Then you sit back and wait and tell us all about it!

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 01/01/2007 17:16

Oh and I think you've just told a few thousand people! lol

AnguaVonUberwald · 01/01/2007 17:20

Thanks I have indeed. Its a great way of telling people without actually telling everyone in RL.

A quick question for you. If my AF is due around now, does that mean that I should count myself as 4 weeks pregnant or 2 weeks pregnant? (Just found out yesterday!)

4 weeks preg!! hello, I'm popping over from the 'due in March' thread. Many congrats on your preg, I hope it's a healthy and happy one. I can't believe a September thread has come around already

AnguaVonUberwald · 01/01/2007 17:46

Thank you kittyinwaiting. you must be getting really impatient for yours to arrive.

Wow i just spotted this. Im on the Due in May thread. Congratulations.

When i got my BFP I contacted my GP almost straight away and then she put my name forward to the Midwives who in turn phoned me to arrange my first appointment with them for when i was 8wks.

For the first 12 weeks very little happens in the way of gp/midwife care, they basically let you get on with it unless you have any problems or questions you need to ask. You see the midwife at around 8wks normally in your own home, this is your booking in appointment and then nothing else until around 12wks when you may be offered a scan although this varies depending on where you live.

I will warn you now that for many those first 12 weeks tend to drag, it helps having people on here to moan to about all the lovely pregnancy symptoms Time does speed up once you reach the 2nd trimester (honest) As for telling people it is up to you when you wish to do this. Many people choose to wait until they reach 12wks but then others are so excited they tell the world straight away. This is my third pregnancy and we tend to tell our Parents first and then once i reach 12wks i tell everyone else but then again if you are working and suffer with bad morning sickness or anything else that may effect your work it is a good idea to have a quiet word with your boss so they know where you are if you rush off to the loo And it is very hard to keep quiet when you are so excited about having a baby!!!

I expect the books you have bought will give you lots of information, i still refer to mine and ive done it all before. Once again congratulations and i hope you have a lovely morning sickness free pregnancy

kittyinwaiting · 01/01/2007 17:56

pebblemum, at you getting a home visit. I've only ever had one of those when I've got bolshy at 40+ weeks and refused to come to the GP .
My booking appointments have always been at the surgery and have been at about 10-12 weeks.

AnguaVonUberwald · 01/01/2007 17:57

Thank you so much Pebblemum, that is really helpful. The books are good but they leap straight into the appointments etc, and non of them mentioned the bit straight after you find out.

I can see its strange that you find out and then nothing happens till you are 12 weeks, but its also reasuring for me to just know what will actually happen next.

Congratulations on yours. and good luck for may

AnguaVonUberwald · 01/01/2007 18:00

OK, but either way, nothing really happens before 12 weeks with regard to the GP?

So do I phone them tommorow and they say call back when you are 12 weeks, or do they want to see you once straight away to "register you" and then its nothing till 12 weeks?

OMG OMG..a Sep 07 thread?!!! Congratulations...I'm from the Sep 2006 thread & have a little boy of 15 weeks!!! I cannot believe there is an 07 thread already....It was nearly a year ago to the day that I got my BFP Hope the 07 thread will bring you as much joy, comfort & fun as the Sep 06 one has for me (& all my fellow cyber buddies!!)

kittyinwaiting · 01/01/2007 18:32

You caould call and ask what the procedure is a your surgery. They will probably say to call back when you are say 8 weeks to make your booking appointment. Once you have done that the midwife will let you know eqach time when she wants to see toy again. it changes everytime i have one, but this time it has been, booking appt 12 weeks, scan 12 weeks bloods and tests 16 weeks with midwife, scan 20 weeks, midwife 24 weeks, midwife 28 weeks,I'll see her next at 31 weeks. It might well be a bit different where you are and becaue it's your first.

merryberry · 01/01/2007 18:38

Congratulations. If you talk to the GP this week they can get you booked and you can talk about what types of care are available in your area, so you can start thinking about your choices and asking pertinent local questions. You will find massive geographical variations across the UK in care and choices, talking to mums/dads here.

When you go, most GPs now take your word for it (being PG) as the home tests are so good, though some still do their own as well. They will help calculate your due date and can give you a maternity certificate whose name and full purpose I can't remember, but which I used to get free dental work done and later to give to HR at work as a formality to get maternity leave. Needed that dental work once I got PG gingivitis (bleeding gums). Ah the joys of it all. Have fun and no problems I hope!

AnguaVonUberwald · 01/01/2007 19:09

Thank you all so much, its so reasuring to have a you all there, at the other end of the modem!

Hi angua, found you and your thread. Im off to see the doctors next week, they set everything in motion and in our area you see the midwife after 12 weeks 9 or did when i was last pg) But its worth going to get the extra advice and free dental etc, how are you feeling?

jess1996 · 01/01/2007 20:05

Hi Angua,

Congratulations. I got my BFP last week and I was wondering if a due to Sept 2007 thread would appear.

I am 5 weeks (+1 day) and I'm due on Sept 2nd. I went to my GP a few days after my BFP. He didn't do another test, but filled in a form for free prescriptions etc and gave me the phone no. of the midwives to make a booking appt (don't know when though?).

This is my 1st pregnancy and I'm pretty scared! I'm mostly anxious about m/c so I'm keen to get these next weeks out of the way!

Also I have sore boobs and started feeling quite queasy today.

pottypotpot · 01/01/2007 22:27

Congrats Angua and Jess.
I got my bfp last Wed but haven't worked out the no. of weeks or due date yet.
I haven't contacted the dr either and am hoping to call tomorrow to arrange an appointment.
I am really excited and happy but am also really anxious as it feels too good to be true.
This is my 2nd preganancy - I have a 20 month ds.
I have 2 friends who have had mc in the last couple of months which is where my anxiety comes from.
Anyway, here's hoping for a glorious and problem-free pregnancy and birth for all of us!

CocoLoco · 02/01/2007 08:50

I came back from a week of skiing and drinking to a BFP yesterday - oops! Due 7th Sept. This will be my 5th. I can't imagine I won't plan another home birth but that feels a long way off! At least DH is happy about it all, and I'm feeling good so far.

Congratulations Anqua and Jess. Before you rush off to the doctor, check what options are available in your area as you don't necessarily want them to just book you into the nearest hospital. Although you can always change to another hospital/birth centre/home birth later on.

missmapp · 02/01/2007 09:15

Congrats jess and pottypot, I had bfp on Jan1st and v excited, this is my second pg and I have a 23mth ds. it took 3yrs ttc to have him and was just about to book docs appoint to start whole infertility cycle again when wonderous news arrived, so now off to docs for much nicer reason ( think I'll wait for the new year rush to die down before I go)
Pttypot, i know what you mean, a few of my friends have had mc recently and most after 1st succesfulk pg, so am worried, but I worried all through 1st pg so promised myself i'd enjoy the next one and relax, but its not easy!!
Coccolocco - congrats a 5th bundle of joy - lovely news

maretta · 02/01/2007 11:18

Hi
Congratulations everyone.

I think I'll be joining you. I've had one +ve test but I botched it a bit.

I'll be due about the 7th also - day after dhs birthday.

This will be my 3rd. I have 2 ds aged 3 and half and 15 months. I must be crazy.

I had ds2 at home so really hope for another home birth.

M

EdieMcredie · 02/01/2007 11:38

Hi everyone-don't know if I belong here as haven't worked out my due date yet but think it will be Sep. Got two BFP's this morning. This will be my first as I had a mc in Oct.

So happy and scared!!!!!

CocoLoco · 02/01/2007 13:07

Maretta, my DH's birthday is mid Sept too so he's asked me to try and avoid that date!

Congratulations everybody - does anyone feel like it's real yet? Any symptoms? I'm aiming for my first pregnancy where I don't feel like poo for weeks on end (is there a 'hopeful' smiley??)

redjulieb · 02/01/2007 14:54

Hello all - and congrats to everyone on the newly formed Sept 07 thread!!!

Count me in! Have now done 4 tests - a very faint unsure one, a negative one (too soon after the first test). Gave up then, but after a week I got to wondering again - so we now have two positives! Think we are pretty sure now!

Bit worried about the over indulgent festive season (esp alcohol) impact... Does anyone else have pain in the tummy??

I have another DS (? not sure of all the code) who is 2 and a half. He was no trouble at all during pregnacy and is such a lovely little guy, I hope we are half as lucky with the next.

Pepa · 02/01/2007 17:02

Hi Everyone and congratulations. I got my BFP on New Years Day - great way to start 2007! I already have a DS aged 14 months - so I am very nervous about having two under 2 years. But if CocoLoco can do 5 and Maretta can do 3, I really shouldn't complain right?!

redjulieb - I also have a nagging pain in my tummy, but I'm not sure if it's my nerves or whether it actually has a physical cause...

AnguaVonUberwald · 02/01/2007 17:03

congrats all, so nice to have others who are due at the same time. Hopefully we can all be scared shitless together!!!

Only symptoms so far are very sore boobs!! Also have a heavy cold I can't take anything for but those are the breaks!

Wow, Missmapp, thats incredible timing, so pleased for you.

Jess1996 - my first one too. Lets be scared together.

Anyone else already had their first "OMG what am I doing" meltdown? poor DP, its probably just a taste of what is to come.

Pepa · 02/01/2007 18:01

Angua - I second the sore boobs. In fact it was my first indication that Santa had left me a late present!
